The legally separated wife of [[Kogoro Mouri]], Eri is a lawyer who often gets tangled in Kogoro's cases, usually serving as an extra pair of eyes when it becomes time to investigate a crime. Although she does not like Kogoro's attitude and personality (especially his drinking and skirt-chasing habits), she still deeply loves and cares for him, often testing him to see if he still cares about her as well.

Eri and Kogoro, like [[Shinichi Kudo|Shinichi]] and [[Ran Mouri|Ran]] and [[Heiji Hattori|Heiji]] and [[Kazuha Toyama|Kazuha]], had been best friends since childhood, falling in love in their teens. Ten years before the ''Detective Conan'' storyline starts, however, Kogoro and Eri separated and took different paths in their lives.<ref>[[Volume 11|Volume 11, File 107, Page 15: "The Two Mysteries"]]; Ran says that it's already been 10 years since Eri left.</ref> Ran had believed that Eri had separated from Kogoro because he had shot her in the leg to get her away from a crazed serial killer, when in fact Eri had completely respected Kogoro for his decision, which she also believed was the correct one. Eri is considered incredibly attractive. Eri is a fairly tall and light-skinned woman. She has long and wavy brown hair with shorter bangs framing the sides of her face, most of which she usually keeps done up in a bun. She is rather slender yet curvaceous inbuilt, she is shown to be very beautiful and admired by most men as she and Kudo Shinichi's mother were shown to be stunning beauties when they were in high school. She wears simple black glasses and is commonly seen wearing business suits.

Eri is a customer visiting a certain coffee shop where she is meant to meet up with Ran. Even though Eri is separated from Kogoro, and has been for quite some time, she still cares for him and loves him. She often mentions that she would go back to him if he would just be a little bit nicer and not act immaturely to her.<ref name=coffee>[[Coffee Shop Murder Case|Episode 32: Coffee Shop Murder Case]]</ref> Very often, she sees Kogoro treat her nicely and gets hope, but then he does something stupid that angers her again, ruining any hope she has of them being back together. In ''[[The Fourteenth Target]]'', Eri and Kogoro are shown having a great time eating dinner, but it ends when Kogoro looks out the window and sees the very attractive owner of the bar that he visits.<ref name=target/> This makes Eri turn angry and act how she normally acts to Kogoro. In the two-part episode, ''[[Scuba Diving Murder Case]]'', Eri accidentally loses her wedding ring on the beach, but pretends to have left it at home to see if Kogoro noticed.<ref name=scuba/> She gets visibly angry when Kogoro doesn't appear to notice it, especially when he leaves their lunch early to go back to the beach.<ref name=scuba/> Later, it is discovered that Kogoro had always known that she wasn't wearing her wedding ring, and had gone back to the beach to look for it.<ref name=scuba/> This left a visibly shocked Eri to drive home speechless, but pleased.<ref name=scuba/>

In another episode, Eri captures a confession from Kogoro saying that he misses her and wishes she would come back to him on a minidisc, replaying it over and over again afterwards.<ref name=Suspect/> However, even though they both miss each other, both of them still pretend not to care, and even become incredibly nasty to each other.<ref name=scuba/> Kogoro even goes on the opposing side of a case that Eri is working on, in a plan done by her professional rival [[Reiko Kujo]] to try and get under Eri's skin.<ref name=Battle>[[Courtroom Battle: Kisaki vs. Kogoro|Episode 264-265: Courtroom Battle: Kisaki vs. Kogoro]]</ref> However, her plan fails, as Kogoro's testimony can help out Eri's case instead of Reiko's.<ref name=Battle/>

Despite having a rocky relationship with Kogoro, Eri continues to have a very loving and nurturing relationship with their only daughter. Ran has been trying to get her parents back together ever since they started living separately when she was 6 years old <ref name=The Two Mysteries>Manga Volume 11: Files 107 (The Two Mysteries)</ref>. When they can find the time, Eri and Ran like to meet up so they can catch up on what's been happening in each other's lives and during those moments together Ran tries to convince her mother to come back home to live with them as a family again <ref name=Coffee Shop Case>Manga Volume 11: Files 105-107 (Coffee Shop Case)</ref>.

Shinichi/Conan and Eri share a somewhat equal level of intelligence when analysing crime scenes. Eri's deducing skills were more notable in [[Kogoro Mouri, Suspect]], where she was able to submit a string and a piece of metal before Conan could bring it to Inspector Yamamura's attention. She considers Conan a big help in murder cases. At first, Eri seemed slightly suspicious of Conan, but later she concludes that he is simply a boy who is very smart for his age, even helping him in showing off deduction shows. Eri respects Shinichi/Conan's and his deducing skills and vaguely accepts Shinichi and Ran's relationship. She has also told Ran to "choose her man carefully," indicating not to make the same mistake she did (most likely referring to her current unstable relationship with Kogoro jokingly).

On the other side, although Conan respects Eri, he is also afraid of her because he got scolded so many times by Eri in the past that he developed a negative reaction just from seeing her. Conan forgot her face when Eri was first introduced in the anime since he hasn't met her for ten years.

== Trivia ==
* Eri likes Zigoba, a brand of Swiss chocolates. These chocolates were also the present that Kogoro gave her when they first dined at the French restaurant, La Fleur. In a later movie, The Fourteenth Target, her love for the chocolates are used against her in an attempted murder, which they were poisoned. However, she survived.

Hina Wada is a teenager living in Haido City, Tokyo, and studies at Haido High School since two years. She also practices karate and is the second best in her category, the first being [[Ran Mouri|Ran]]. She is interested in UFOs and aliens, believing in them. [[Shinichi Kudo|Shinichi]] first met her when he saw her fighting a purse snatcher in a busy street, although she already knew Ran long ago, since she is her self-declared "rival". They met again in a karate tournament's finals, when she lost against Ran.

Hina went to [[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro]]'s place to ask him to investigate about an UFO sighting case and, along with Ran and [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]], they went to the place where she supposedly saw the UFO, at Haido Park. There, they encounter [[Kazunobu Chiba|Chiba]], who was investigating a murder case involving possible aliens that occurred at Haido High, just a few drops from the park. In the end, it turns out the murder was done by an alien fanatic having a grudge against the victim and the UFO Hina saw was only a part of his trick.

Later, at the karate competition, Hina confronts Ran at the finals, but loses against her as usual.

In both civilian and costumed life, Kaitou Kid is a compulsive trickster who is drawn to any challenge just for the sheer thrill of overcoming all hazards in the end. Kid is infamous for having a rather overconfident (close to the point of arrogance) attitude, always preferring to create as big a bang as possible. He loves nothing more than leading the police in wild goose chases, letting them get within a hair's breadth of catching him, before exiting one way or another. Seemingly having a soft-spot for his fans, there has been more than one occasion when Kid has refused to show when the police tried to bar the general public from witnessing his act. Generally, when these instances occur, one of Kid's tricks rely, one way or another, on his ability to blend in with a crowd.

Kaitou Kid is also quite a charmer, seeming to always know just what to say to the ladies to leave them speechless. Kid hates to see others get hurt, and he never hesitates in leaping to rescue someone, whether physically or mentally. Despite his low reputation in some quarters, Kid does have a sense of honor, in as much as that he decides to leave the loot behind if it has no further purpose other than having challenged his trickster skills, doesn't contain Pandora, or when a more humane background stands behind their existence. These qualities are some of the reasons why he and [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] occasionally end up as allies in a common cause.

For some as yet unexplained reason, Kaito suffers from a severe case of ichthyophobia (fear of fish).

The classic Kaitou Kid outfit was originally developed for one of his stage performances to honor Arsène Lupin, but he decided to use it as his thief outfit after saving [[Phantom Lady]].

Jii donned the costume of Kaitou Kid, but used a smiling mask, in order to lure out the organization that killed Toichi. He was only dressed as Kid twice before Kaito took over.

Kid has dark brown hair (black in Magic Kaito 1412) with fringe that ends just above his eyes, but the rest of his hair is normally covered by a white top hat with a blue ribbon band. When dressed in his normal outfit, his right eye is covered by a white monocle that has a dangling green charm with a white clover imprinted on it. Kid's outfit consists of a white suit jacket on top of a blue shirt with a red tie and white dress slacks. The white [[Hang Glider Cape]] is attached to the jacket at Kid's shoulders. Kid wears blue socks with white Oxford style shoes with white soles. In his original appearances Kid wore white loafer type shoes.

Kid has been seen wearing black shirts and pants along with a black hat to help cover his face, usually when doing information gathering for heists or when he has his "audience" at his heists looking elsewhere. Apart from these two outfits, Kid is a master of disguise and has been seen disguising as several people throughout the course of ''Detective Conan'' and ''Magic Kaito''.

When Kuroba Toichi began committing high-profile heists, INTERPOL named him "International Criminal #1412," as they were unaware of his true identity. Sometime later, a reporter referred to him as "Kaitou 1412" in a hastily-written note, since the word "kaitou" means "phantom thief" in Japanese. Not much is given about Toichi as Kaitou Kid. However, we do know that at some point in time, a dark organization forced him to steal gems to find [[Pandora Gem |Pandora]]. His refusal led to his death in a "magic accident."

After the death of Toichi, Jii lived by himself. Over the course of eight years, he grew angrier and angrier until he donned the costume of Kaitou Kid in order to lure out the organization that killed Toichi. He was only dressed as Kid twice before Kaito took over.

In both civilian and costumed life, Kaitou Kid is a compulsive trickster who is drawn to any challenge just for the sheer thrill of overcoming all hazards in the end. Kid is infamous for having a rather overconfident (close to the point of arrogance) attitude, always preferring to create as big a bang as possible. He loves nothing more than leading the police in wild goose chases, letting them get within a hair's breadth of catching him, before exiting one way or another. Seemingly having a soft-spot for his fans, there has been more than one occasion when Kid has refused to show when the police tried to bar the general public from witnessing his act. Generally, when these instances occur, one of Kid's tricks rely, one way or another, on his ability to blend in with a crowd.

Kaitou Kid is also quite a charmer, seeming to always know just what to say to the ladies to leave them speechless. Kid hates to see others get hurt, and he never hesitates in leaping to rescue someone, whether physically or mentally. Despite his low reputation in some quarters, Kid does have a sense of honor, in as much as that he decides to leave the loot behind if it has no further purpose other than having challenged his trickster skills, doesn't contain Pandora, or when a more humane background stands behind their existence. These qualities are some of the reasons why he and [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] occasionally end up as allies in a common cause.

For some as yet unexplained reason, Kaito suffers from a severe case of ichthyophobia (fear of fish).

The classic Kaitou Kid outfit was originally developed for one of his stage performances to honor Arsène Lupin, but he decided to use it as his thief outfit after saving [[Phantom Lady]].

Jii donned the costume of Kaitou Kid, but used a smiling mask, in order to lure out the organization that killed Toichi. He was only dressed as Kid twice before Kaito took over.

=== Kaito as Kid ===
Kid has dark brown hair (black in Magic Kaito 1412) with fringe that ends just above his eyes, but the rest of his hair is normally covered by a white top hat with a blue ribbon band. When dressed in his normal outfit, his right eye is covered by a white monocle that has a dangling green charm with a white clover imprinted on it. Kid's outfit consists of a white suit jacket on top of a blue shirt with a red tie and white dress slacks. The white [[Hang Glider Cape]] is attached to the jacket at Kid's shoulders. Kid wears blue socks with white Oxford style shoes with white soles. In his original appearances Kid wore white loafer type shoes.

Kid has been seen wearing black shirts and pants along with a black hat to help cover his face, usually when doing information gathering for heists or when he has his "audience" at his heists looking elsewhere. Apart from these two outfits, Kid is a master of disguise and has been seen disguising as several people throughout the course of ''Detective Conan'' and ''Magic Kaito''.

When Kuroba Toichi began committing high-profile heists, INTERPOL named him "International Criminal #1412," as they were unaware of his true identity. Sometime later, a reporter referred to him as "Kaitou 1412" in a hastily-written note, since the word "kaitou" means "phantom thief" in Japanese. This note was seen by [[Yusaku Kudo]], who misread the numbers as "KID." Not much is given about Toichi as Kaitou Kid. However, we do know that at some point in time, a dark organization forced him to steal gems to find [[Pandora Gem |Pandora]]. His refusal led to his death in a "magic accident."

After the death of Toichi, Jii lived by himself. Over the course of eight years, he grew angrier and angrier until he donned the costume of Kaitou Kid in order to lure out the organization that killed Toichi. He was only dressed as Kid twice before Kaito took over.

In both civilian and costumed life, Kaitou Kid is a compulsive trickster who is drawn to any challenge just for the sheer thrill of overcoming all hazards in the end. Kid is infamous for having a rather overconfident (close to the point of arrogance) attitude, always preferring to create as big a bang as possible. He loves nothing more than leading the police in wild goose chases, letting them get within a hair's breadth of catching him, before exiting one way or another. Seemingly having a soft-spot for his fans, there has been more than one occasion when Kid has refused to show when the police tried to bar the general public from witnessing his act. Generally, when these instances occur, one of Kid's tricks rely, one way or another, on his ability to blend in with a crowd.

Kaitou Kid is also quite a charmer, seeming to always know just what to say to the ladies to leave them speechless. Kid hates to see others get hurt, and he never hesitates in leaping to rescue someone, whether physically or mentally. Despite his low reputation in some quarters, Kid does have a sense of honor, in as much as that he decides to leave the loot behind if it has no further purpose other than having challenged his trickster skills, doesn't contain Pandora, or when a more humane background stands behind their existence. These qualities are some of the reasons why he and [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] occasionally end up as allies in a common cause.

For some as yet unexplained reason, Kaito suffers from a severe case of ichthyophobia (fear of fish).

Kid has dark brown hair (black in Magic Kaito 1412) with fringe that ends just above his eyes, but the rest of his hair is normally covered by a white top hat with a blue ribbon band. When dressed in his normal outfit, his right eye is covered by a white monocle that has a dangling green charm with a white clover imprinted on it. Kid's outfit consists of a white suit jacket on top of a blue shirt with a red tie and white dress slacks. The white [[Hang Glider Cape]] is attached to the jacket at Kid's shoulders. Kid wears blue socks with white Oxford style shoes with white soles. In his original appearances Kid wore white loafer type shoes.

Kid has been seen wearing black shirts and pants along with a black hat to help cover his face, usually when doing information gathering for heists or when he has his "audience" at his heists looking elsewhere. Apart from these two outfits, Kid is a master of disguise and has been seen disguising as several people throughout the course of ''Detective Conan'' and ''Magic Kaito''.

When Kuroba Toichi began committing high-profile heists, INTERPOL named him "International Criminal #1412," as they were unaware of his true identity. Sometime later, a reporter referred to him as "Kaitou 1412" in a hastily-written note, since the word "kaitou" means "phantom thief" in Japanese. This note was seen by [[Yusaku Kudo]], who misread the numbers as "KID."
