A man is being haunted by a ghost, since exorcisms did not work they want Moore to solve the case. The clue is a card that says the fifth ghost will kill them unless they repent their sins. Since the time that card was sent, the master installed a door that needs a pin code and fingerprint scan to access the top floor. The master, lady, and the installer of the door are friends who are hiding a secret about the sin. All the accidents happen on Butsumetsu day, the day Buddha dies and the unluckiest day on Earth. On that day the installer was found hanged on the balcony of the third floor.

Conan realizes who the culprit is and its revealed to be Masashi Watabiki. He had an accomplice and it's his twin brother. The twin who was supposed to be long dead was involved, and that was what scared the headmaster. It was revealed that on the wristwatch of the dying victim, was the location of where the boat accident happened.

Sonoko invites Ran, to attend a meeting full of avid magic fans she met online. After dropping her off at the snowy lodge, Conan and Kogoro return home. During the ride, they hear on the radio that one of the members, Tatsuo Nishiyama, is found dead in his home and that his dying message was the name Dark Master, one of the members of the club.

The members of the lodge decide to leave the Hamano's body untouched to preserve the crime scene and retreat back into the lodge. They discuss among themselves and believe that the club member with the Username Dark Master is the murderer. Conan, Ran, Kikue Tanaka, and Katsuki Doito, head upstairs to retrieve a sweater. While upstairs, an arrow breaks through the window and almost hits them. At the same time, another arrow breaks through the window on the bottom floor. The people of the lodge head outside to investigate and find a crossbow on the ground. The people begin to believe that the culprit is an outsider of the club. Conan investigates and notices that there was evidence that something was stapled to the outside of the house. Conan realizes how the murders are done.

Using a tranquilizer, Conan knocks Sonoko out and reveals the culprit to be Kikue Tanaka. Conan reveals that the crossbow incident was simple, Kikue pulled a string with an object at the end to break the window, and fired a concealed crossbow to create the idea the attack was coming from the outside. She did the same for the bottom window but had the arrow stuck to the mirror prepared beforehand. As for Hamano's murder, Kikue strangled him, and using resilient strings, fired them from the balcony to the forest until there was enough to support Hamano's weight. She then tied a string around Hamano's body and used the positioned string to slide the body downwards. She then tied all the strings into another arrow and fired it off. As evidence, Conan reveals that the arrows were specialized to have string connected to them and that they should be found on Tanaka's body somewhere. Tanaka confesses to the murder and reveals that the group members online prompted her grandfather, a famous magician, to attempt a dangerous trick which resulted in his death. Conan meanwhile confronts Katsuki Doito and reveals that his name is the anagram for Kaitou Kid. Kaitou Kid reveals that he saw that someone was on the magician's account and wanted to investigate it and escapes the lounge with the use of his hang glider.

Sonoko invites Ran, to attend a meeting full of avid magic fans she met online. After dropping her off at the snowy lodge, Conan and Kogoro return home. During the ride, they hear on the radio that one of the members, Tatsuo Nishiyama, is found dead in his home and that his dying message was the name Dark Master, one of the members of the club.

=== The Suspicion ===
The members of the lodge decide to leave the Hamano's body untouched to preserve the crime scene and retreat back into the lodge. They discuss among themselves and believe that the club member with the Username Dark Master is the murderer. Conan, Ran, Kikue Tanaka, and Katsuki Doito, head upstairs to retrieve a sweater. While upstairs, an arrow breaks through the window and almost hits them. At the same time, another arrow breaks through the window on the bottom floor. The people of the lodge head outside to investigate and find a crossbow on the ground. The people begin to believe that the culprit is an outsider of the club. Conan investigates and notices that there was evidence that something was stapled to the outside of the house. Conan realizes how the murders are done.

Conan recreates the crossbow attack on the top floor and lures everyone outside.

== Resolution ==

Using a tranquilizer, Conan knocks Sonoko out and reveals the culprit to be Kikue Tanaka. Conan reveals that the crossbow incident was simple, Kikue pulled a string with an object at the end to break the window, and fired a concealed crossbow to create the idea the attack was coming from the outside. She did the same for the bottom window but had the arrow stuck to the mirror prepared beforehand. As for Hamano's murder, Kikue strangled him, and using resilient strings, fired them from the balcony to the forest until there was enough to support Hamano's weight. She then tied a string around Hamano's body and used the positioned string to slide the body downwards. She then tied all the strings into another arrow and fired it off. As evidence, Conan reveals that the arrows were specialized to have string connected to them and that they should be found on Tanaka's body somewhere. Tanaka confesses to the murder and reveals that the group members online prompted her grandfather, a famous magician, to attempt a dangerous trick which resulted in his death. Conan meanwhile confronts Katsuki Doito and reveals that his name is the anagram for Kaitou Kid. Kaitou Kid reveals that he saw that someone was on the magician's account and wanted to investigate it and escapes the lounge with the use of his hang glider.

Everything in the Okida household seems to be controlled by a computer, from accessing doors to the air-conditioning.

Conan comments that Okida sweated way too much during the night considering the house is set to maintain a specific cool temperature.

Conan's notices wilted flowers on a table and finds a receipt for the bouquet in the trash. The flowers were purchased the day before, so it doesn't make sense for the flowers to have already wilted so much. Examining the chocolates on the table Conan notes they have all melted into lumps.

Okida's sweat, flowers, and chocolates imply that the temperature control in the house changed the night when Okida died, but Aslan, the Himalayan cat, appears to be fine. According to what Ran heard from Tokito, cats like Aslan need to be in a relatively controlled temperature environment.

Miura explains to Conan that Tokito used to be a programmer for Okida until Tokito and a friend decided to set out and form their own company. The company however ended up being a failure and Okida "graciously" allowed Tokito to work for him again as his chauffeur.

Tokito seems enraged remembering a "certain man" who drove his business partner into committing suicide. Conan asks if the "certain man" is Okida, but Tokito doesn't answer.

Agasa confirms Conan's theory that someone could hack the Okida household to change the house's settings, but it would have to be done by someone really versed in programming.

When Conan visits Tokito's apartment he steps on an unusual "flake" thing. Upon returning to Agasa's house, he realizes he stepped on something else: a cat hair.

Thanks to Agasa, Conan realizes that '''Tokito''' must've programmed Okida's computer system to heat up the house really quickly and then cause a sudden drop in temperature. This sudden change in temperature is what triggered Okida's heart attack.

The flakey object Conan stepped on in Tokito's apartment was actually a piece of cat litter. The cat hair on Conan's sock was also from Conan's visit to Tokito's apartment. To protect Aslan from being involved in his revenge scheme, Tokito took Aslan back to his apartment so the cat wouldn't get hurt.

The "Bearded guy with sunglasses" was Hitoshi Yuda in a disguise, and Maya was a hitwoman that he hired to kill Kogoro for "revealing" him as the killer of his wife. She lost her memories when she got involved in a traffic accident and hit her head; midway through the episode she recovered it, specially after Yuda kept trying to kill Kogoro himself; Maya then decided to pretend she was still amnesiac, both to set the deal with Yuda and then finish her mission of killing Kogoro.

Maya's weapon was a strong floss, which she used to strangle her victims; she managed to trap Kogoro and use the floss to hang him in a makeshift gallow. By then, Conan had already notified the police and then used his super sneakers to kick a tennis ball towards Maya, forcing her to release Kogoro.

Thanks to Kogoro, he overslept and made Ran and Conan miss their boat while they were on vacation. Luckily, the island happen to be where the Hatamoto family have their weddings, and when their were just leaving the island, the passengers of a nearby boat noticed them and picked them up. However, trouble strikes when the clan leader Gozo Hatamoto is found murdered.

The crumbs were stained not only in blood, but in charcoal; they likely were inside Ichiro's sleeve and were released as he struggled with Gozo.

** Takeshi "ran away" from the storeroom he was thrown into... but the door could NOT be opened from the inside due to how it was built. Therefore, it was impossible for him to simply open the door and run away, so someone should have released him from the outside. Ichiro did that to make everyone believe Takeshi was on the loose and ready to kill again; in reality, Takeshi ''did'' run away once he noticed the door was open... but by then he found out about Tatsuo's death and heard the tearful Akie blame him for the murder, so he hid in the closet in Gozo's studio to wait for any outcomes.
** The murder of Tatsuo was not pre-planned. He actually was killed by Ichiro because he saw him drop the knife he used to kill Gozo in the sea, so Ichiro panicked again and beat him with the first blunt object he found: a metal pipe.

The killer was Ichiro Hatamoto, Gozo's grandson and Natsue's cousin and unlucky childhood friend. He had not straightforwardly intended to kill his grandfather, but after dinner they got into a very ugly verbal fight. Ichiro couldn't withstand Gozo's abusive treatment and attacked his grandfather, and in the middle of the struggle he took a knife that was on the table and stabbed him to death.

Once he realized what he had done, Ichiro started to cover his own steps, making everyone believe that Natsue's husband Takeshi (and his love rival) was the real killer. Takeshi himself had reasons to be angry at Gozo Hatamoto: his family owned a small business that was absorbed by the Hatamoto company (causing the suicide of Takeshi's dad) and Gozo himself not only knew it, but he abused Takeshi because of it, thinking that he was a mere gold digger (which he wasn't, since he ''did'' truly care for Natsue). Therefore, Ichiro easily dropped fake leads that led to Takeshi being blamed for Gozo's death, and later for Tatsuo's.

Ichiro Hatamoto, as explained, was in madly in love with Natsue, which was indicated when in his notebook was nothing but drawings of Natsue. But Gozo had repeatedly said no when he asked him if he could marry her, and kept mistreating Ichiro afterwards; this specific time, Gozo's taunts were directed to Ichiro himself, threatening to not support his college career as a promising artist, and calling him a failure to the Hatamoto family.

It should be noted that in Japanese society, first cousin marriage is relatively acceptable and not that unheard of. Ichiro's own parents Mariko and Kitaro actually were first cousins and in love ever since they were teenagers; 25 years ago they did manage to get Gozo's approval for their marriage, but it actually took them lots of time and much pleading with the old man. Therefore, Gozo was horrified when he saw that the grandson he looked down on was developing feelings for his favorite granddaughter, whom he also had appointed as his only heir.

When the criminals don't arrive at the site on Saitama Route 162, Conan and the Detective Boys try reexamining the code. As Mitsuhiko punches the numbers into his calculator, Conan accidentally sees that when upside down, the numbers can read as "291 Heisei E". The decoded message means the one o'clock train on February 9th of the Heisei Express train. The shape of the river turns out to mirror a double-curve in the train tracks of the Express. The criminals want Koichi to shoot someone inside the train and the balloon was just an accuracy test.

Conan sneaks into the helicopter taking Inspector Megure to the train line. Before Koichi can assassinate the target, Inspector Megure instructs the pilot to swoop down and distract the criminals. Conan uses his [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] to kick his helmet towards one criminal before he can shoot Koichi. Koichi is able to take down the remaining criminals and save Eri from harm.

Kogoro Mouri received a strange cut-and-paste letter from a client called Asou Keiji asking him investigate something on Tsukikage Island. He then found out that the man requesting for the investigation, Keiji Asou, has been dead for 12 years. He was a world-renowned pianist who suddenly killed his family, set his house on fire, and played Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata as his house burnt around him. Despite thinking the letter is a poor prank, Kogoro decides to investigate anyway and finds the island is holding elections for mayor. Two years ago, a passerby heard the Moonlight Sonata playing from the community center and discovered the body of the mayor slumped over the piano. Although he died from a heart attack, the similarity to the death of Keiji Asou caused the islanders to think the piano has cursed.

The person who knocked out Murasawa in the piano room was Hirata. The bandage on his left hand was the result of smashing the window when he was trying to escape. He was also the one that Kogoro and Conan chased outside the piano room. The piano room was his meeting place with Kawashima when doing business: dealing drugs. He was using the piano's secret compartment as a hiding place of drugs he got from overseas to which he exchanged later for large sums of money. The reason why he was always talking about the cursed piano was because he wanted to keep everyone in the town away from it. Murasawa saw the drugs that he had left in there earlier so he hit him. Still, he was unrelated to the murders because he wouldn't have related the piano to the crimes.

In the second murder, they found that he had been dead for only a few minutes but when Conan fell on the code of blood, it didn't smear when it takes 25-30 minutes for human blood to dry. It was just a trick that the killer used to manipulate the time of death of the victim. Upon looking at the pictures, there was a button that was lighted near Kuroiwa's neck. But after the body was moved, the light was turned off. This was actually the reverse button. While the police weren't looking, the killer turned off the light. The killer used the reverse side (the blank side that didn't have the song), which played for over 30 min and then it reversed. That was when the 5 minutes and 30 seconds of gap played before the music started.

In the third murder, the killer didn't have the time to put a chair or desk at Nishimoto's feet because he had to escape in time. The killer was probably male because the murders required a lot of physical strength.

The purpose of drowning Kawashima was to send the forensic examiner back to Tokyo, because it was impossible to do an autopsy on the island. The tape in the second murder was a setup so the killer could create an alibi.

Conan deduced that the killer was '''Dr. Narumi Asai''' and that she was, in fact, Asou's son, Seiji. Asai was probably the surname of the family that adopted him. After graduation, he came to the island as a female doctor. The pronunciation of his name was not written on his diploma, nor the medical license, because if they checked his history, they would have found out that he was a man. He stayed all night so that they'd make him last for questioning.

As for Murasawa, he was an admirer of the late Asou and he was the one who kept the donated piano in tune just like that night.

Seiji then committed suicide by dying like his father. Conan failed to stop him, but he played one last music code message in the burning flames: "Thank you, little detective."

Seiji's motive dated back when his father, the pianist, and his family was murdered. Kawashima, Nishimoto, Kuroiwa, and Kameyama used Asou's international concerts as a front for their international drug trade. When Asou stated that he wouldn't cooperate any longer, they got scared that their secret might be exposed. This was all written in the sheet music that he left behind in the safe as his confession to his son. Seiji was hospitalized in Tokyo at the time of the murder.

Seiji went back to the island to avenge his family's death. When he told Kameyama that he was Asou's son, the late mayor was terrified and told him everything. He then had a heart attack. Seiji played the Moonlight Sonata that his father loved so much upon seeing the mayor dead.

Conan knew that something was up because he didn't really know Ryoko. With the clues at hand, Conan pieced things together.

He immediately called Ryoko as Shinichi using the [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] and the [[Portable Bentou Box Fax]]. He confirmed that '''Mamoru was kidnapped'''. Mamoru was Hideo's older brother whom Hideo has been taking care of since their parents died two years ago. Hideo was ordered by the kidnapper to throw the game. Threatened that Mamoru would be hurt if the police was involved, Ryoko decided to pose as Shinichi's girlfriend.

When Ryoko came over to make breakfast, she found a letter left by the kidnapper and another which the kidnapper apparently made Mamoru wrote. Ryoko faxed Conan a ripped letter with the words: "Brother, resurrect me."

While trying to find more clues in Mamoru's room, Conan thought that it was just too messed up, even if the child retaliated. With further investigation, Conan found an empty game box called Onimaru Quest - a game where the hero has to be 'resurrected'. The main character in that game was named Mamoru. Another character in the game was named Naoki. Uemura Naoki was a soccer player who joined the Tokyo Spirits a year ago. He was also Hideo's good friend who lives nearby.

Conan deduced that Mamoru was with '''Naoki''' and that it was just made to look like it was a case of kidnapping. The note that Mamoru left must have been a part of the whole saying that he was going to Naoki's to have his character revived.

The group rushed to Naoki's place and sure enough, they found Mamoru there unharmed.

Naoki envied Hideo because even though their skills were pretty much the same, Hideo was still more popular than he was. He came close to surpassing Hideo, but during one of their practices, Hideo accidentally injured his leg. Naoki thought that it was done on purpose so he wouldn't be able to play.

Naoki didn't plan to hurt Mamoru. He would send Mamoru home after the soccer finals and Naoki would disappear after getting back at Hideo.

But the little eye of justice had tricks of his own. Conan pulled an "innocent" act of wanting the directions to the toilet be written by Ochiai. And before the director knew it, he drew the inkless pen from his pocket.

In the hopes of getting the art museum to stay opened, the previous owner who got bankrupt sold the museum to Manaka. Manaka, however, was consumed by his own greed and planned to convert the building into a casino.

Ochiai was not going to let it happen as he considered the artworks as his own. He killed Manaka to prevent the inevitable.

And as for Kubota, Ochiai thought it just right to punish the person who had been selling art relics and pieces secretly.

**Coincidentally, as Conan was playing with one of the toys, he discovered that there was a username in the video game that was not of Dr. Ogawa's five-year old son, Yuta. He rummaged through patient records and found that Tomoya Ogino, indeed, was a kid who passed away three years ago on that day after being operated on by the doctor.

Conan deduced that the presents were not given to Dr. Ogawa in gratitude, but with grudge and hate, by someone related to Tomoya Ogino.

Sensing that Yuta was in danger, they rushed and found him in a park near his kindergarten with an unknown man. Turned out, this man was '''Tomoya's father''', who planned to end Yuta's life on the same day and at the same age that Tomoya died. The father lured Dr. Ogawa and Yuta with his son's old toys and life insurance money, and sent his son's favorite flower to commemorate his death.

Had Conan not interfered by kicking a nearby soccer ball towards the man, Yuta wouldn't have been saved from an ill fate.

As for Ran, she stopped her suspicion that Conan was Shinichi. He had asked Dr. Agasa to call Ran as him using the [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]].

Conan realizes this must be because the transaction the men in black had with the person in the dining car cannot stand the smell of smoke. Therefore the person with the bomb must be in a non-smoking car of the train. According to Mitsuhiko there are eight non-smoking cars on the bullet train.
**The Gin lookalike made a remark about how the person with the bomb is probably "looking out at the last scenic view" they will ever see. Conan and the Detective Boys realize the person with the briefcase must be in one of the two-story Green Cars. Mitsuhiko explains only one of the three Green Cars is non-smoking.
**Conan notes that the man in glasses with the laptop is trading stocks and has a gold Rolex watch. Conan remarks the man must really be raking in money. The man in glasses shouts at Conan that he could not possibly go anywhere on the train due to the amount of work he has.
**The woman in the Green Car has a cell phone and remarks to Conan that since the sky is clear today "you can see Mt. Fuji" from her window. The woman claims to have not visited the dining car during the trip.
**The elderly man does not seem to hear Conan's question correctly, so Conan is unclear whether the man did or did not visit the dining car.
**Although the brutish man with gold rimmed glasses doesn't answer Conan's question outright, it's clear the man visited the dining car because he wipes his glasses with one of the dining car napkins.
**When the Vodka lookalike questions his partner about the bomb being timed, the Gin lookalike replies that although the bomb isn't on a timer, the bomb will definitely go off when the person with the briefcase unknowingly triggers the detonation button. Conan realizes this means the explosion will be set off by the passenger's "reaction to something".

After ruling out the brutish man Conan knows went to the dining car (the briefcase was full of underwear), Conan realizes one of the passengers he spoke to said something strange.

The '''woman''' claims to have had a great view of Mt. Fuji earlier in the train ride, but it would be impossible to see Mt. Fuji from her window in the Green Car. She must have been in the dining car at the time and mistook her view from the dining car for the one back in her Green Car seat.

The woman lied about going to the dining car in order to cover up the transaction she had with the men in black.

Conan also realizes that the detonation button the Gin lookalike referred to is when the woman dials a specific telephone number on her cell phone.

The woman manages to dial the number on her cell phone at 3:10 PM, but thankfully Conan manages to use the Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes to kick the briefcase out of the train just before it exploded.

The woman's motive for making a deal with the men in black was to gain "inside information on the trading market" in exchange for 100 million yen.

The men in black's motive for planting the bomb of course was to kill off the woman and cover their tracks while getting away with a hefty amount of money.

* In the manga, the two men in black are in fact [[Gin]] and [[Vodka]]. It is here that Conan first learns of their codenames.
* Genta, Ayumi and Mitsuhiko didn't appear in the manga version of the story. Thus, it's Ran who deposits the gum that Conan uses.
* The manga version ends with Conan reflecting on the knowledge he learned about the two men in black. Ran's questioning of his true identity doesn't occur here, but in [[The Coded Map of the City Case]] (which follows the story in the manga rather than preceding it).

'''The Roller Coaster Murder Case''' is the pilot episode of series, and aired on January 8, 1996 in Japan. It begins in the middle of a case where a murder was committed during a private mansion's party. This opening scene introduces both [[Inspector Megure]] and [[Shinichi Kudo]] for the very first time, as well as showcasing Shinichi's impressive deduction and soccer skills when he reveals the killer.

The episode starts in a mansion where a party has been interrupted by a murder: one of the guests, President Yamazaki of Yatsubishi Bank, was found dead with a bullet in his heart. The police, led by [[Juzo Megure|Inspector Megure]], have been investigating the crime scene, but have no conclusive evidence. However, [[Shinichi Kudo|Shinichi]] makes his grand entrance and claims having figured out the case.

*Shinichi states that the room Yamazaki was killed in was locked from the inside. The only possible entrance into the room was the window.
*The mansion owner claims that there is at least a 10 meter gap between the two windows Shinichi states the killer used. Shinichi points out however that if the killer used the roof to get closer to the other window this gap is shortened to a mere 2 meters and therefore could be easily jumped across.
*Shinichi notes that there is an indentation on the balcony where the killer attached a rope with a piece of wood at the end, allowing the killer a way to get back across to the 3rd floor window, as it is impossible for the killer to have successfully landed on the 10 centimeter roof ledge coming back. By using a piece of wood rather than simply tying the rope to the balcony the killer was able to remove evidence of his method of escape while on the other side of the building.
*The lack of footprints below the window implies it was an inside job.
*Shinichi claims to have spoken with the killer's doctor.

====Conclusion====

Shinichi concludes that the murderer could only have been someone who knew the mansion very well and eventually points his finger at the '''owner'''. The latter, being in a wheelchair, then starts to laugh claiming he's in no position to be able to commit such a crime. Shinichi then grabs a globe and throws it towards the owner who immediately jumps out of his chair to avoid it. The maid and guests are all in shock. Shinichi then says that he's been healed for a while now as reported by his doctor, which Megure confirms.

====Motive====

Although the episode does not clearly state the mansion owner's motive, it likely had something to do with the "under-the-table" financial dealings the owner had with Yamazaki.

Shinichi states the killer used an object like a purse or a backpack to escape the ride restraints and wrap a wire around the victim's head while in the darkness of the Mystery Coaster's tunnel. After tying the wire around the victim's head the killer tossed a hook attached to the other end onto the roller coaster's track, beheading the victim using the coaster's speed and movement. Shinichi concludes the murderer is '''Hitomi''', as her expertise as a gymnast makes this feat possible. He proves her guilt through two crucial pieces of evidence:
# Hitomi's necklace (the murder weapon) is missing after the end of the ride
# Hitomi has a tear-trail on her face that runs horizontally which is impossible unless she was crying during the course of the ride.

====Motive====
Hitomi's motive for murdering Kishida is because she used to go out with him long before she met Aiko and Reiko in college, until he dumped her. Hitomi planned to murder Kishida at the place they had their first date (Tropical Land) using the very necklace he had bought for her. Had Shinichi not proven the truth behind the murder, Hitomi was planning to commit suicide via drugs after the visit to Tropical Land.

== Episode Resolution: Chasing the Men in Black ==

Shinichi, suspicious of the two men dressed in all black that rode the coaster, decides to follow them on their way to the outskirts of Tropical Land. He tells Ran to head home without him, and when she tries to follow her shoelace breaks, leaving her to watch him go with the strange feeling she'll never see him again. Shinichi gets caught up watching [[Vodka|one of the men]] conduct a blackmail transaction with a company executive and doesn't notice the [[Gin|other man dressed in black]] sneaking up from behind until the man knocks Shinichi out with pipe. To avoid the attention of the police, they give Shinichi an [[APTX 4869|un-tested poison]] in order to kill him without a trace, and leave him to die. However, rather than killing Shinichi, the poison shrinks him down to the size of a [[Conan Edogawa|six year old]].

== Manga to anime changes ==
* The first episode of the anime includes the Detective Boys who don't appear until many chapters later in the manga.
* Hiroshi Agasa and Kogoro Mouri also appear in this episode, whereas in the manga they make their debut in the [[Company President's Daughter Kidnapping Case]].
* The mansion owner kills his wife in the manga. In the anime the owner kills his friend, Yamazaki.
* In the manga, Shinichi is asked for the football by some kids but in the anime the ball is from some players in his school and he also makes a goal.
* In the manga, when Ran is trying to kick Shinichi, he leaps out of the way rather than his face ending up under her skirt.
* In the manga, Reiko points out that Gin and Vodka could have committed the murder as they were behind the victim. Shinichi acknowledges that they look suspicious, but if they pulled off the murder, they would have anticipated the arrival of the police (which they don't, as they are in a hurry to pull off their transaction).
* Shinichi uses a camera when spying on Vodka, whereas in the anime, he simply just listens to the deal going on.

==Dub changes==
*In the English Dub, Agasa reactivates his rocket pack on purpose, whereas in the Japanese Version he does so unknowingly.
*In the English Dub, Kogoro takes offense to Ran's compliment of Shinichi, whereas the Japanese Version has him stating that he needs to make a living.
*In the English Dub, Ran sarcastically states that Shinichi looked at Hitomi's legs for the purpose of making a deduction, whereas in the Japanese Version she critiques him for knowing that Hitomi is a gymnast before shaking her hand.
*In the English Dub, Gin's reason for using the [[APTX 4869]] was fear of leaving a bullet trail behind, whereas in the Japanese Version it was due to the cops still being around after the murder on the roller coaster.

== Remastered version ==
On April 4, 2009, a remastered version of the case was aired. A few modifications were made in this new version: the victim's head doesn't land next to the Detective Boys and the scene where the viewer could see blood on the roller-coaster was cut.

The killer was Kaori Nakahara. It was find out that she bought a large number of various snacks in advance in the afternoon when she went to go buy ingredients for the hot pot they had for dinner. Before the crime, she took everyone's order and pretended to drive away, then parked the car a short distance away and took out everything that was on the list. By doing this she created an alibi so you she could go kill Oyama. The evidence were in the room that shows Kaori is the murderer it was,in the table. The blood suddenly stops, and it was revealed that it was in the tablecloth, Kogoro told them to place the tablecloth on the table so that the blood stains match. The dying message of Oyama left behind, he then recalls that Oyama died on his knees then said it now becomes quite obvious that their names have the same kanji as the pieces in shogi, and it was find out that Oyama always said that if he had a horse then he'd have it all. He then said that their names represent every piece, except for the knight, then told Ran to get the lighter that's on the sofa and put it on the tablecloth, the deduction continues that there's only one place where the bloodstains on the lighter and tablecloth match, then it shows that it was the rook. In other words, this dying message points to the person with the same kanji as the rook- Kaori Nakahara, then he reveals that she is the one who knocked the tablecloth off, then he reveals that the blood on the table suddenly stops, there's no blood on the sofa that the lighter was on. This proves that it was moved after the blood had completely dried. In other words, the murderer returned to to the scene of the crime and realized the message. The last is the unlucky thing for her was that she realized the message after she screamed.

Kaori confesses that she respected Oyama as a father, that's why she couldn't forgive him for stealing her thesis, Ginji reveals that it was about "The Development of Genetic Treatment for Intestinal Cancer". She then reveals that the thesis Oyama stole, it was the thesis that she put all her passion into for the past six years. The reason she write the thesis was for her father, who passed away because of intestinal cancer when she was young. The reason she became a doctor is that she devoted herself to that research was so that no other people would go through what her father did. She reveals that that's not the only motive she kill Oyama but not only he stole her thesis that she finally completed that Oyama also said, "It's no use! No one would believe that this thesis is yours now. And with me releasing that thesis, the scientific community is more likely to pay attention to it. That would make your dead father so happy." And laughed loudly. That was when she came with this plan, since that man stepped all over her father's memories. That's why she decided to open up holes in his lungs and make him die from one of the most excruciating deaths possible. But she then said to Kogoro that he made one mistake, she actually predicted someone would order salad and ice cream, salad was sold out, but she bought ice cream but it melted inside her car's heater.

The killer was Takeo Izumi. He killed his boss Ikuko when she first threatened to take him to court for a huge lost sum of money, then openly and cruelly told him that she had asked Izumi's much loved parents into selling their country land for his sake. So Izumi lost it and strangled Ikuko with his own hands, and one of her contact lenses fell in his clothes.

The person who actually met up with the police, however, was Ikuko's daughter Chihiro, wearing similar bed clothes and a mask on. She did so after finding Ikuko's body, trying to avert being signaled as the culprit.

The killer was Takashi Ichieda. Two years ago Mrs. Yone's granddaughter, Yaeko, died by drowning when she went searching for Reika and Nikaido, who were stranded in a small isle in the sea. It turned out they took her swimming supplies and left her to die; Ichieda noticed the odd situation when Yaeko's body was found and asked them about it, but they denied everything and said they had not even seen Yaeko.

Ichieda, who actually was in love with Yaeko, kept his bad feelings to himself until Reika's 24th birthday. After isolating the group in the mansion, he first kidnapped Reika and kept her hostage in one of the bathrooms, bound and gagged inside a covered bath tub, getting everything ready so she would slowly drown. Then he confronted Nikaido, and when he admitted his share of guilt, Ichieda drowned him outside with his own hands and left his lifeless body there. The attack on Ran wasn't intended to be fatal; he only needed a witness to throw suspicions off himself, making everyone believe that the assassin was an outside. Few later, a still kidnapped Reika drowned in the tub, and Ichieda pulled her lifeless body and left it next to said tub for everyone to find.

Conan and the Detective Boys wake up at 5:30 in the morning to go get in line for a roller coaster ride. There are only three other people on the train at that time, and they plan on going there in order to take pictures of the train. One of the photographers waits outside so he can take pictures of the train coming towards him; suddenly, the ladder underneath him tips over and he falls onto the track. The train conductor quickly applies the emergency brakes, and everybody rushes out of the train to find him unhurt. However, when Conan comes back into the train to continue their journey, they find one of the other photographers dead.
