The [[Detective Boys]], supervised by [[Kogoro Mori|Kogoro]], [[Ran Mori|Ran]] and [[Sonoko Suzuki|Sonoko]], have come to Osaka to make a tour of the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Studios_Japan USJ] theme park. But as luck would have it, Sonoko has learned that [[Makoto Kyogoku|Makoto]] happens to be in Osaka, too, and unwilling to go alone - but also unwilling to leave the kids without sensible supervision by taking Ran along - she decided to pay him an impromptu visit with [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] for company. As a result, Conan and Sonoko find themselves as guest in the karate dojo of Tatsuhito Takami, a renowned martial artist and an old acquaintance of Makoto, from whom the latter had picked up his stoic demeanor and occasional intimidating presence.

Ran suspected that Conan and Shinichi are the same person. She took Conan's phone secretly and tries to find out if the message sent to Shinichi will recieved by Conan's phone. Somehow, she's having trouble to unlock the PIN number the whole night.
Ran turns on Conan's cellphone only to find out there is a four digit lock. She reminisces about the time Shinichi was forming words through the Hiragana and numbers found on the license plates. Shinichi witnesses a car with an illegal license plate as cars are not allowed to use the Hiragana "shi" or "he" and reports this to the police. The police capture the criminals before they robbed a bank. Back in the present time, Ran uses the word Sherlock which are the numbers 4869 and unlocks Conan's phone. Ran suspects Conan deleted her messages and resends the mail only to receive a phone call from an irritated Shinichi. Conan appears and asks for his phone and returns to his room where it is revealed that he used a prerecorded message to call Ran in the event of her getting close to finding his secret. Conan then gives Ran his phone number and accepts the dangers that would come by doing so.

Ran cracked the password on Conan's phone, eager to find out weather her mail was sent to Shinichi (Conan's phone, since Ran suspects him to be Shinichi). The message was sent to Shinichi's phone (Conan's other phone), this supprised Ran since she was sure Conan's phone would receive the mail. She then proceeds to send multiple mails when suddenly her phone rings, its Shinichi (Actually just Conan playing a pre-recorded conversation). At the same time Conan comes down to get his phone from her in order to avoid her suspicions.

Kogoro, Ran, and Conan are all heading into Chinatown to have a nice dinner. In the car, Ran is studying extensively for an exam, and hasn't slept very well. Her mind keeps thinking back to a blurry memory of her and Shinichi, and she keeps thinking about that mysterious man, Shuichi Akai, and about how she believes she has seen him before. Conan is very worried for her health. While at the restaurant, they share a dinner table with another group of guests, because Kogoro didn't read the fine print on a coupon. One of the guests on the table dies.

Inspector Jugo Yokomizo arrives on the scene. Kogoro mistakes him for his older brother, Sango, which angers Jugo, who is not a fan of Kogoro. Because Ran sat near the victim, she is considered a suspect! Conan wants to figure out who is the murderer, not just because Ran is a suspect, but also because she keeps looking more and more ill. Could something bad happen to Ran?

After an investigation, which sometimes is tense, Conan finally figures out how the killer could have killed the victim.
However when everyone was about to leave, Ran collapses on the ground, and the officers offers to drive her to the hospital.

Conan then stuns Kogoro and declares '''Kaizo Isogami''' to be the culprit. It's because of Kawabata's reflexes and distaste for certain food, and also last time, Isogami stops the table away from Conan so that he can't eat the Steamed meat bun because Isogami already knows that Conan's hand is poisoned.

As the investigation goes by, Ran looks more and more ill.

Isogami confesses and reveals Kawabata murdered the actress Rika a year ago, disguising it as a accident. Kawabata knew about the sudden change all along, he was fully aware of the fact the stuntman and Rika were switched for the last action scene, he also said he only did her a favour by acknowledging her wish to do her own scenes with disgusting grin, he also said it was a smash hit because of her death he didn't stop her despite his power and opportunity and reveals a director falls in love with his heroine in the course of filming even if she is not a good actress and not very attractive.

After the case is solved, Ran passes out on the floor. She finally remembers, thanks to the rain, just who Shuichi Akai is, and what the connection is with Shinichi. It was a case, over a year ago...

=== Situation ===
In Tokyo International Airport, Conan and the group are going to take a trip to Okinawa by taking a plane called 747 jet, a 70.7 meter passenger plane. Kogoro is annoyed by taking the kids along. Agasa won a trip to Okinawa and gave the tickets to Kogoro, Ran, Conan, and the Detective Boys. Unfortunately, Agasa can't come along because he has a cold and Haibara is going to take care of him. Later, the plane went up to the sky and Ayumi is telling Conan to look through the window to see a great view. But Conan is sleeping and Ran tells Ayumi to not wake him up. When Ran takes Conan's glasses off of his face, she smiled. It reminds her of the face of Shinichi sleeping. Ran falls asleep and dreams about being in the plane called Luna Airliners with Shinichi going to Los Angeles.

In the plane going to Los Angeles, it started when Ran is still taking a nap. Until sudden, the company employee named Tsuneo Ukai is telling the photographer named Kazuhiro Otaka to not smoke in the non smoking area. Otaka said sorry to Ukai and spits smoke at him in a rude way. Next to him is another photographer named Tsugumi Amano, also his girlfriend, and she tells him to cut it out. Otaka then tells Amano to lighten up because he will be rich by selling the negatives to the newspaper office in Los Angeles. Another photographer named Chizuru Tachikawa mentions about the negatives if they are real or not. She also mentions that the congressman from America might have come to Japan to spread rumors. It would be embarrassing if they caught a wrong person by taking a picture. Otaka tells them that he already sent two pictures and they confirmed it's the right person. After the conversation, Otaka sees Saginuma, another photographer, that he's sleeping. Of course, Otaka takes a nap too by putting a mask on to cover his eyes. Another man who's in front of Otaka is the freelance journalist, Edward Crowe and he's just looking at Otaka.

Amano called the stewardess to bring her medicine because she's kind of sick right now. Ukai just stood up and went through the plane until the stewardess asks him if there is a problem. Ukai is not comfortable sitting in a plane. Meanwhile, Amano is still getting sick and Tachikawa then switches seat with her. The stewardess arrives with the medicine and gives it to Tachikawa that she will give it to Amano to take the medicine. They notice that Otaka is missing from his seat. He must've used the restroom.

Later, the drunk passenger is knocking on the restroom door for telling the person who's using the restroom to hurry up. The stewardess asks the drunk passenger is there a problem and the drunk passenger says that he knocks on the door but no one is answering. The stewardess unlocks the door and opens it. They found the dead body of Kazuhiro Otaka.

The stewardess screams and wakes up all the passengers in the plane. Another stewardess makes an announcement saying that there is sick person onboard. Suddenly, Inspector Megure from Tokyo Metropolitan Police happens to be the passenger onboard and asks the stewardess is there a sick person. Ran heard the people saying they found the dead body in the restroom. Ran is about to tell the person next to her that something horrible happens but he's gone. Inspector Megure was surprised that he met Ran. Ran asks Inspector Megure that if it's true that there's a dead body in the restroom. Megure tells Ran not to worry and he will handle the investigation. Then, the stewardess takes Megure where the dead body was found. Suddenly, a strange boy deduces that the cause of death is probably nerve damage. The weapon is pointed but has no blade, like a ice pick. But before he was killed, someone made him take something that put him to sleep. He knows the culprit is still on the plane. Inspector Megure angrily asks who he is and the strange boy reveals himself as, "Shinichi Kudo" the detective. Megure remembers Yusaku Kudo as his friend and hardly recognizes Shinichi when he was a young boy. He is happy to see him but angrily got him out of the crime scene because it is an official police investigation. Then, Megure asks the stewardess that if he could borrow the camera from someone for taking a picture of the crime scene. The stewardess said that Shinichi already took the pictures and already returned the camera to someone else. Shinichi deduces that from the appearance of the corpse, and the hardening of the chin, he has been dead for one or two hours. There are three things that Shinichi cannot understand: First, there are some bloodstains on the wall, but there are no stains on the back of victim's clothes. Second, to the right of the death causing injury, there is a scratch made by smoothing else. Third is the corpse's left side pocket. The inside is soaking wet, but the victim's hand is dry. Even if someone did put a wet hand in the pocket, it still shouldn't get that wet. Megure sees that but until sudden, he pushes Shinichi to go away and he'll handle the case. Megure asks the stewardess to go wake the police officer up next to his empty seat to help him investigate. Ran tells Shinichi to stop being so professional or else he'll get in trouble. Takagi had arrived at the crime scene and starts investigating with Megure. The cause of death is suffocation after a spinal nerve was damaged. The weapon the culprit used is something like an ice pick. From the hardness and texture of the body, he died one or two hours ago. They found the bottle and a handkerchief in the trash. It looks like the culprit probably soaked the handkerchief with chloroform from the bottle. So the victim died in his sleep. The stewardess were surprised that they made the same deduction like Shinichi. Takagi wonders of who he is and Megure explains that he's Yusaku Kudo's son. He told Takagi that in the past, whenever he gets stuck on cases, his friend Yusaku always solved for him. He remembered Shinichi as a little kid who used to follow his father to the crime scenes. He was so good at analyzing the crime scenes so quickly. Takagi became really impressed after hearing that, and wonders if they could ask for his help, but until sudden, Megure calls Takagi an idiot in a big fuss because he doesn't want any help from an amateur.

Next, Megure and Takagi decided to find some eyewitnesses but of course Shinichi interrupts again that he's the only witness who saw everything. He thinks it's four suspects. The ones that went to the bathroom, besides the victim. He doesn't remember how long each one took, but he can recognize them. Since his seat is in the back, he was watching them the whole time. No one from the smoking area went toward the bathroom, so he's pretty sure of it.

Megure asks Shinichi who the four suspects are and Shinichi shows it to him. Two women next to the victim's empty seat named Tsugumi Amano and Chizuru Tachikawa. The man sitting next to the aisle is Tsuneo Ukai and the man named Edward Crowe in the front. The four people are sitting very close to each other. Tachikawa and Amano are wondering what's going on.

When they showed four people including Saginuma to the victim, Amano cries over his death. Tachikawa asks why would Otaka be murdered. Megure is about to explain but Ukai mentions that it's because of the negatives. He would sell them to the newspapers for a lot of money. But there were no negatives in Otaka's possession. Saginuma asks that he was murdered with a sharp object jabbed into his neck. Megure confirms that is correct which means this culprit was professional. Saginuma, Otaka, Amano, and Tachikawa are just photographer friends who are on vacation. He thinks Megure have the wrong suspects but actually they are confirmed to be suspects by Shinichi. Someone with enough medical and drug knowledge, as well as the right weapon, anyone of them including Saginuma could have done it.

Megure now asks each five people exactly what happened when they went to the restroom. Amano said that she wasn't feeling well, so she went to the restroom to throw up. When she came back, Otaka was still in his seat. After that, she asked the flight attendant for air sickness medicine. The flight attendant can vouch for her. She remembered what happened very clearly. Megure asks the flight attendant is it true and the flight attendant said yes that she remembered Otaka was sleeping very soundly at that time. Ukai saw them too, from across the aisle. Ukai said that Amano looked like that she was asking the flight attendant for medication. The flight attendant gave her some. Shortly after, he left to go the restroom. It took about five minutes. Megure said that Ukai should have been sitting next to the victim, with the aisle between Ukai. Ukai said he was uncomfortable, so he walked around for a bit. When the flight attendant came back with the medicine and water, Otaka already left his seat. It took less than a minute. Tachikawa went to the bathroom too, a whole after Tsugumi had taken the medicine. It had been about twenty minutes. Since Otaka hadn't come back yet, she went to check on him. At that time, he was still alive. She knocked and asked, "Is anything wrong?" Suddenly, Otaka answered back by knocking. Tachikawa is sure of it because she had already tried the three other restrooms. Nobody was in any of them. Next for Edward, Shinichi asks him in English saying when did he go the toilet. Edward said he doesn't remember when he did, unfortunately. Until sudden, Shinichi coughs because Edward has a very strong cologne. Suddenly, Saginuma wonders how long is the police going to keep up with the pointless questioning. The one who has the weapon is the culprit so he thinks the police search the other four because he said as for him, he was asleep the entire time so he never left his seat. Until sudden, Ukai calls Saginuma a liar because he knows that he left his seat that's behind Otaka's. Saginuma got confused and Megure asks what is he saying. Ukai said that Otaka was in his seat before he left the restroom. At that time, Saginuma wasn't in his seat. Saginuma asks Ukai that what is he talking about because he was so sure that he was asleep the entire time. He also said that the other four had gone to the restroom and points at Shinichi that he saw it too. Since all five of them are suspects, the police are going to do a body search in the restrooms. Also they must inspect their luggages to find the murder weapon.

Later, the police couldn't find a murder weapon by searching the five people's bodies and luggages. No one had anything like an ice pick and what's more, the suspicious areas of the plane were all searched too. There was nothing to be find. Shinichi thinks this is very interesting. Since the weapon can't be found on the plane, it must be because the culprit hid it well. That must be the culprit's final trump card. Shinichi knows that he can find the card right in the culprit's hand before the plane lands.

Shinichi tells Megure to do a search again. Since the weapon cannot be found on the plane, it must still be on the culprit, so they start searching again. First is Tachikawa's baggage. There's passport, wallet, handkerchief, make-up, tissues, tickets, sunglasses, camera, a notebook, and a pen. No weapon but Shinichi asks about the ball point pen that did they take it apart. Takagi did took apart of the ball point pen. Now for Amano, she has passport, wallet, towel, a wool cap, make-up, a camera, handkerchief, a sewing set, and some motion sickness medicine as well. The only things that can be considered a weapon are the scissors and needles inside the sewing set. Neither of those would do the job. Next for Ukai, he has passport, tickets, wallet, handkerchief, electric razor, towel, and a shaving cream. Now for Edward, they were about to check his briefcase. Shinichi notice that there's a strong cologne near his neck, but not on his wrist. In Edward's briefcase, it has passport, wallet, handkerchief, tickets, towel, newspaper, two novels, glasses, a sewing set, an American Express bank card, and a checkbook. Megure is about to ask Edward about the checkbook but he can't speak English fluently. Shinichi asks him instead. Edward said he was about to buy some art objects at the auction in Japan but nothing caught his eyes. Last one is Saginuma, he has passport, wallet, handkerchief, camera, negatives, a wristwatch, cigarettes, a lighter, tickets, and motion sickness medicine. He has lots of medicine because he never fail to get sick. When Shinichi checks the negatives, he sees the pictures of American Congressman, Representative Dickson. Tachikawa mentions that those are the same pictures that Otaka took. Saginuma suddenly said those are his negatives not Otaka's. He took the pictures with Otaka at the hotel. Otaka's picture is so much better than his but he wanted to see if the newspaper office would buy all of the photographs at once, including his. After checking their belongings, the police are now going to do a body search in the restroom. The police will search the men and the stewardess will search the women. Shinichi checks out the area where Otaka sits. Judging from the seating arrangement, Saginuma was in the seat behind him. Edward was in front. To Otaka's side was Amano and Tachikawa was by the window. Then, Ukai was to the left. Suddenly, Shinichi found the negative fragment next to Otaka's empty seat. Ran came to Shinichi and told him that the body search is over but the police still can't find the murder weapon. All five people had enough of this and got angry about it. Megure and Takagi already checked everything but except one thing they are going to check. They are going to check Otaka's luggage.

Takagi opens the overhead bin door and asks Amano which luggage is Otaka's. Amano points to the bag so she reaches to get it with her right arm but stops. Amano remembers that Otaka said something strange. About a week ago, he left his bag in the photo studio. The next day, he found the bag had been cut up with a knife. So it's the new bag that Otaka brought currently and Amano reaches to get it with her left arm. In Otaka's bag, there's passport, camera, film case, sunglasses, three packs of cigarettes, wallet, towel, extra film, two magazines, wristwatch, and tickets. Nothing similar to the murder weapon. Takagi checks out Otaka's passport which it says he's from Japan, his date of birth: November 3, 1969, he's male, and Takagi remembers that three years ago, Kazuhiro Otaka won the newspaper's big journalistic photography contest. The picture he won was about the mother handing her baby to the fireman during a big apartment fire.

Shinichi wonders what's wrong with this case. The weapon is missing and everyone saw different things. No one's alibi can be verified. Meanwhile, Ukai is still accusing Saginuma that he's the culprit. He knows that Saginuma is lying about sleeping the whole time. He saw it when Amano was taking medication, Saginuma wasn't in his seat. He points to the stewardess who also saw it. The stewardess confirms it because when she saw Ukai walking around the plane, she went to stop him. So she started talking to Ukai. Then he asked the stewardess to watch Otaka, so she could stop Otaka if he started smoking in the non-smoking area. Megure asks where was Saginuma at that time. The stewardess doesn't think he was in his seat until sudden, Saginuma just went to the stewardess by grabbing her shoulders and asks what is she talking about because he knows he was in his seat. Megure asks the other stewardess that she brought the medicine to Amano and she confirms it. Saginuma asks her that he was asleep in his seat but unfortunately, she can't remember. When Shinichi asks something to the stewardess by whispering, she said yes. Shinichi had finally figured out who the culprit is. If he's right, then everyone's confessions, the negative on the seat, the blood in the bathroom, and Otaka's wet pocket all fits together. But he still couldn't find the weapon. It wasn't found in the people's luggage. Shinichi asks Ran that she's a high school student and obviously she is. He then asks Ran something that's inappropriate by whispering and then Ran said yes that's how the thing are made that way. Shinichi finally found the trump card that the culprit used to killed the victim.

Meanwhile, Megure suspects the most suspicious person is Saginuma. Shinichi tells Megure that's incorrect because he knows that Saginuma is not the culprit. He once said before, the four people instead of Saginuma went to the restroom. Since Saginuma didn't go, his chance to commit the crime was zero. Saginuma thanks Shinichi that he's proven innocent and he knows that he has nothing to do with the case. Shinichi said no but he is involved in the case because he was used by the culprit. By the one who, out of these four people, is lying about what happened. Takagi mentions that Tachikawa said that Otaka knocked back when she went to check on him. She might have said that to set up Amano, so Takagi thinks Tachikawa is the one who's lying. Shinichi said it's wrong that Tachikawa didn't lie. Because at the time, there really was someone in the bathroom. Someone was with the dead body. It is revealed to be '''Edward Crowe'''. He was searching for the negatives, and put his hands into Otaka's pocket. Then, he remembered his cologne. He left the smell of the cologne in Otaka's pocket. So he quickly washed his hands. Then he tried to get rid of the smell by using his own handkerchief. The evidence is that his hands do not smell of the cologne. Megure asks how can that be counted as evidence. By talking to Edward, Shinichi has to speak English but Shinichi knows that Edward can speak Japanese. It is revealed that he can speak Japanese and it made everyone surprised. Of course he does because his checkbook was going to be used to make a deal for Otaka's negatives. Edward reveals that he was asked to buy the negatives by Representative Dickson. Saginuma angrily accuses him as the culprit but actually he's not the culprit of murdering Otaka because when he went to the restroom, Otaka was already dead. Edward confirms it and he heard that he had gone to the restroom, so he thought it was a good time to try to make the deal. But when he knocked on the door, he didn't answer. So Edward just went in, but he was already dead. He knew it was wrong, but he needed money, so he searched the body for the negatives. He was the one who answered Tachikawa's knock. There were bloodstains on the wall of the bathroom, but no blood on the shirt of the victim. If the culprit had wanted to move the victim, there was no need to wait for the blood to dry. This means that someone moved the corpse afterwards, but didn't tell anyone that he had found it. The reason that person moved the corpse, should be because they were looking for the negatives. When he couldn't find it anywhere else on the body, he tried the pocket. The only person who would do this to someone who hadn't seen where the victim hid the negatives. The only one who couldn't have seen was Edward. The two suspects left are Ukai and Amano. The important point is when Amano asked the flight attendant for medicine, the seat behind the victim was empty. Saginuma was not in his seat. Saginuma was indeed sleeping in his own seat and someone put a wool cap on him and the eye mask too. Someone dressed Saginuma as Otaka sleeping. After the culprit killed Otaka, she didn't return to her own seat. Instead, she sat by Saginuma. After dressing Saginuma as Otaka, she then asked the flight attendant for medicine. Only to make everyone think that Otaka was still alive. The culprit who murdered Otaka and used Saginuma to clear herself is '''Tsugumi Amano''', Otaka's girlfriend. Well, can't blame the flight attendant for her mistake. It was very dark inside the plane and only a bit above Saginuma's nose was showing. Then, while the flight attendant was getting her the medicine, Amano moved back to her own seat. Finally, she acted like she was going to throw up and woke Tachikawa. This gave the impression that Otaka wasn't in his seat. Thus making the flight attendant and Tachikawa confused about exactly when he really went to the restroom. The empty seat that Ukai saw was the empty seat behind Saginuma. Megure suddenly says that if the seat beside Saginuma hadn't been empty, the plan would have failed. Shinichi says it could work. All she had to do is buy an extra plane ticket and if the medicine Saginuma took from her was sleeping pills, it'd be hard to wake up. She had a wool cap in her personal luggage and she knows that Otaka has a habit of wearing an eye mask when he sleeps. Takagi asks that what if the flight attendant had realized that Tachikawa wasn't sitting next to her. Shinichi answers that she could have put her luggage on the seat, and covered it up with the blanket. Now the negatives, with the small scissors she had in her sewing kit, she cut them up and flushed them away. This made everyone think that the motive was the negatives, and drew attention away from herself. But at the time, some pieces of the negatives had stick to her clothes. The negatives that fell off her clothes are still by Saginuma's seat. In other words, her plan was this: after she was sure that Tachikawa was asleep, she told Otaka that she wanted to talk to him in the bathroom. She prepared the chloroform-soaked handkerchief, and waited for him there. She used the handkerchief as he came in, and closed the door as he fell asleep. Then she pulled out the weapon and killed him. Afterward, she took out the sewing kit, cut the negatives, and flush them. Then she locked the bathroom door from the outside. The next phase was the method Shinichi explained a moment ago. This way she had an alibi, and made Saginuma to look like Otaka was still alive. Therefore, she would be found innocent. Megure says that's risky, if someone had seen her coming out. Shinichi says that she could have left the door unlocked. That way no one would be waiting when she came out. As for someone walking in, if someone had tried to come in, it would have only have cracked open. The room is too small for the door to open if someone is inside. The person wouldn't have been able to see anything, but would still realize that someone was already in the bathroom. They're probably just try a different stall. Shinichi has the weapon and the proof. They are still on the culprit's body. Of course the people have been checked twice but this weapon is that hard to spot. It can also make it past the metal detector. It's something only women have. It is the wire in the right side of Amano's bra. If she sharpened one end of the wire, and stabbed it into the back of the victim's neck using her weight. She could put it in five or six centimeters. Deep enough to hit a spinal nerve. Even a woman could accomplish this. Other than a puncture wound, the scratch beside it is the best proof. It was caused by the other end of the wire. Amano didn't get rid of her weapon, because she was afraid the police would find it and might trace it back to her. Amano confesses to her crime and reveals that three years ago, Otaka won the prize for journalistic photography because of the picture of mother handing the baby to the fireman. She began liking Otaka because of that picture, he captured so well. The tragedy of the fire that killed her older brother. The same fire as the one in that picture. The famous photo of the fire, it wasn't the only one. He took so many pictures of the fire, some were even taken before the fire started. Picture of when the fire was small, and was just a little smoke. More than she could count. Otaka was the one who set the fire. When she asked about it, Otaka said, "Instead of waiting for the perfect moment, I created it myself." Amano thought she was so confident that she hid the weapon well. Shinichi thinks it's obvious. When she started taking down the luggage, she used her right hand but stopped short. Later she used her left. Therefore, he concluded that it was because the wire had started to poke into her arm. Because of the pain she had to swap hands to take down the bag. The mistakes a person makes when in a hurry can be very important clues. The careless mistake that Amano made caused Shinichi to realize that her movement was very strange. Amano is now arrested for murder.

In the end, Ran is still dreaming talking to Shinichi about bra is sexual harassment. Kogoro is asking Ran what did Shinichi do to her in a big fuss. Suddenly the stewardess is telling Kogoro to get back in his seat. Ran woke up after that.

Conan, Ran, and Sonoko are cleaning up Shinchi's house, and their chat goes from Sonoko complaining about doing this in summer break to Ran wondering who could have been Shinichi's first love and Sonoko speculating whether Ran was his first love or not. Almost as if on cue, an old classmate stops by to check on Shinichi's well-being, then joins the group in their cleaning: her name is Asami Uchida, she used to be the student council president of Teitan Highschool and she now attends a local art-centered university as a literature major.

While helping Conan and the girls with their work, Asami mentions that she'll throw her birthday party in a nearby bungalow that she and her friends rented specially for the event. She had come to personally invite Shinichi, however, and drops hints about a love confession that he might have given her four years ago. Sonoko mentions rumors about a younger student stalking Asami in these days, and Ran concludes that Asami was Shinichi's first love. Sonoko manages to rope Asami into inviting them as well, and Kogoro agrees to go there, once he learns one of the people has been a three time beauty contest winner.

The party starts normally, with the additional perk that it's also a celebration for Asami winning a literary prize, a tennis tournament ''and'' a beauty contest, and everyone seems to have quite a good time. A pretty girl named Tomoko Hayasaka teases the handsome Manabu Sawai about being a playboy, but he ignores it and focuses on complimenting Kogoro for having a way with words. Around the same time the older students Yoshinobu Morimoto, Chika Miyazaki and Shigehisa Noguchi mention Asami's accomplishments: she defeated Morimoto in the literary contest, Chika was just a runner-up for the beauty one that she won, ''and'' she was a part of the couple that won a mixed tennis tournament that Noguchi participated in as well.

In the meantime, Ran and Asami are baking Asami's trademark recipe: lemon pie. (Asami forgot to bring the one she already baked). The pie itself looks messy since Ran had never baked any pies, but it actually tastes good; Asami says what matters is what's on the inside, rather than how it looks.

The party goes on well, and the bungalow's fax machine gets a fax from one of Asami's professors, wishing her a happy birthday.; Asami herself, however, is feeling like crap all of a sudden so she's taking a nap. Sawai and mentions a nearby karaoke parlor where they already booked a room, saying they should let Asami sleep and go there for a while...

As everyone has fun, Sonoko notices Ran is rather mopey instead. She mentions how Asami is sweet, gorgeous, smart, once was the manager of the school's soccer club that Shinichi was a member of, and looks like she's super perfect... so she guesses that Shinichi admires Asami quite a bit and correctly deduced that Ran is feeling inferior to her. Ran mentions that Asami said Shinichi likes lemon pie a lot and offered to teach her (Ran) the recipe, and confirms that she feels like she can't compare to Asami. Sonoko tries to cheer her up by saying Asami is herself and so is Ran, so she shouldn't bring herself down.

Around 3 AM, the group starts getting ready to return to the rented bungalow nevermind one or two problems (like Noguchi being drunk, Sawai taking too much time to bring cigarettes or Kogoro being for too long in the restroom). They decide to go back and then go to bed so they can clean up in the morning... but then they look through the window and the bungalow ''is on fire''! Kogoro and Sawai immediately look for the keys to the rental car they have handy, so they can go there and rescue her...

When the group arrives, the bungalow's completely surrounded by fire - so much that it almost pours from the windows and even the doors. Ran, who was praying for Asami's safety in their way there, sees Chika trying to move a nearby motorcycle and has an idea: she puts on the moto's driving helmet, goes inside followed by Conan, kicks the door to the nearby open and rescues Asami.

Ran passes out almost immediately after rescuing Asami, both from the smoke inhalation and the huge effort. She wakes up in the nearby hospital and is fine, but Asami is still unconscious. She tells Sonoko that the helmet idea came from Conan, who gave it to her so she'd have extra protection, and mentions that he did something incredible.

Conan, Kogoro and the birthday guests are back to what remains of the bungalow and gather information. The fire began at 2:50 AM, at the living room, and was apparently caused by the b-day people's carelessness: Asami's birthday cake was left with its candles burning, they fell on the floor and the gift-wrapping papers, which triggered the fire itself and spreads it all around.
Kogoro doesn't really believe this, and he wonders if Asami herself set the fire.

At the hospital, Sonoko tells Ran that when she was brought to the hospital, Asami was calling out to Shinichi and apologizing to him in whispers. They decide to go get somedrinks and take a break, unaware of how Asami awakens once they leave.

Conan hears what Kogoro says and is troubled by several details. He's sure that Asami was lying on the couch when they left, but she was on the floor when he and Ran found her; additionally, several furniture pieces were in different spots. He wonders if Morimoto, who had the key to the house, set the place on fire, but decides against it since the fire began at 2:50 AM so he couldn't have had enough time ''and'' the window was open so the key wasn't needed. He also wonders about Noguchi (he had the car keys) and Chika (who has a bike), since there was some time when everyone was out of the karaoke parlor, but decides against it too: he couldn't have enough time, and her bike was already parked. Also, the policemen haven't found any specific things that could have been used to set the fire from a distance...

Conan wonders if Asami ''did'' truly set the fire, whether to kill herself or get attention. One of the firemen tells Conan not to stay too close to the burned remains and hands him two sheets of paper, apparently coming from the fax machine. Then Conan checks on the sheets and realises some details! This adds up to what one of Asami's friends said, and the placement of the furniture around Asami...

Ran and Sonoko are still in the hospital, commenting how Asami switched from the tennis to the soccer club despite her natural tennis talent. Then they find out that Asami has disappeared! Around the same time, Conan snoops around the nearby store and finds out that Tomoko, Sawai and the already drunk Noguchi were around, and one of them may have something to do with the incident!

Having realised the truth, Conan heads back to the bungalow. Ran and Sonoko have told Kogoro about Asami's disappearance, and he believes she may be about to try killing herself again. Soon, however, Conan is using Kogoro to reveal the truth...

'''Manabu Sawai''' is the culprit. He set up the birthday cake with lit candles on a chair below the fax machine and sent a fax from a convenience store while pretending to use the phone, so the received fax caught fire as soon as the paper sheets touched the still-lit candles. To make sure this would happen, he sent ''several'' faxes. It's demonstrated when Conan through Kogoro tells the firemen to set up a similar trick in what remains of the house, effectively showing how easy it was for Sawai to set everything on fire without being there.

Chika and Noguchi openly wonder why would Sawai want to kill Asami, but Conan through Kogoro says he never wanted to ''kill'' her and adds he wanted to ''save'' her, to be her "knight in shining armor" who would win her affections after rescuing her from mortal danger. He adds that when everyone was getting ready to leave to the karaoke box, Sawai took the "time out" to rearrange the furniture and place the sleeping Asami, whom he surely drugged with pills, on the floor so she wouldn't get burned.

The owner of the shop saw Sawai using the fax machine when everyone else was singing in the parlor; then Conan gets out holding two pieces of burned paper and showing them as proof. The confirmation paper coming from the fax machine also holds info about Sawai's presence, like his phone name and fingerprints. Even more, Sawai had problems handling the fax machine itself so he had to use the birthday fax from Asami's prof as a test and the shop owner recalled his odd behavior.

Sawai angrily retorts all of this and asks for ''real'' proofs. Conan through Kogoro says that there IS even more evidence... two, actually! One is how, when the group arrived and they suggested to call Asami to see if she was okay, Sawai openly said the room itself would be gone. The other is the prof's fax, still smeared with cream, which Sawai probably keeps in his pocket.

One of the firemen approaches Sawai and he tells him to stop, then pulls out the rests of paper and admits what he did, saying that he never expected the fire to spread as fast as he did. His motive was, effectively, to save Asami's life and thus catch her attention and gratitude, after having been rejected by her the previous month. Up until then, no girl had ever refused the handsome and charming Sawai's affections, so he was shell-shocked and wanted her to love him.

Asami appears on the doorstep right as Sawai surrenders peacefully. Sawai tells her she's such a beautiful and perfect girl, that she can have any man at her feet. She, however, replies that things don't work that way: if someone's heart won't open to someone else, then there's no way to force them to do so...

Later, a more cheerful Asami reveals to Ran and Sonoko that she was bluffing when she said she was Shinichi's first love. In reality he was ''her'' first love: she wasn't immediately attracted to him from the start, but came to like him for his talent and for his blunt approach to things - she once baked a ''terrible'' lemon pie for her tennis and soccer club friends, and he was the only person who told her it wasn't tasty, so she baked and baked until she made one he actually liked. She adds that she taught Ran a ''bad'' lemon pie recipe on a whim, but Ran was still skilled enough at baking to make it edible, and that she wanted to invite Shinichi to the party to get back at him for all the times he told her the pie sucked.

Asami then explains what ''actually'' happened when she confessed to Shinichi, much to Conan's embarrassment (and Sonoko has to gag him with her hands). She says Shinichi rejected her affections, yes, but that he also shyly explained why he couldn't go out with her: he already had a girl he liked, a girl he's "known from childhood" and who's "strong, stubborn, yet also gentle and kind of a crybaby". Sonoko joyfully shouts that the girl must be Ran... but she's oblivious.

* In the anime, when Sawai admits that he didn't think the fire would expand as quick as it did, Conan gets so angry that through Kogoro, he calls him on how selfish he has been: had the group been late for less than two minutes, Asami ''would'' have burned or asphixiated to death, and Sawai never thought of it since he was that wrapped in his own feelings. He adds that if Sawai ''actually'' wanted to be loved by Asami, he should've simply stuck to become an honorable guy that she would've admired and come to love.

When Conan's glasses fall off when he's asleep, Ran sees his face clearly and begins to suspect it might be Shinichi. Her suspicions become stronger when she finds an old picture of them as children with a famous magician named Motoyasu Tsukumo. However, she cannot confront Conan right on - Tsukumo's wife suddenly arrives to Kogoro's office and tells him, Ran and Conan that her husband has been murdered! She also has some suspects in mind: speficially, his three disciples and prospect succesors.

As Ran carefully watches Conan decipher clues, she becomes more convinced he is Shinichi. Is there some way to reverse this discovery?

Conan helps Kogoro solve his case without even having to knock him out, but after wards Ran escorts him to Shinichi's house for a confession of him being Shinichi. But Ran shows strong intuition about his personality, and it makes Conan look wary for a no way out situation...

When Shinichi's mom appears on the scene Conan/Shinichi worried for more thinking that Yukiko his mom might slip information about him, however she ended up making a complex background story for Conan to help Shinichi escape. Ran didn't give up so fast but ended up leaving Conan in his mom's care for days without knowing the truth. Upon entering the gate Yukiko started to treat Shinichi as a real baby and even carried him into their house, but why has she left America for Japan?

The killer was '''Mako Miyoshi''', whose real name was Mako Kinoshita. She was the younger sister of Yashirou Kinoshita, a promising stage magician who died on-stage 14 years ago, when he tried an escape trick that went horribly wrong... but said death actually was a murder commited by his mentor Tsukumo, who was jealous and fearful due to the man's raw talent.

Mako, who back then was around Ayano's age, was behind the scenes and saw Tsukumo mess up with the supplies, but she was too young to properly testify; she became Tsukumo's apprentice as well and, once the training was complete and Tsukumo was discussing which of his apprentices was the most qualified to be his succesor, she revealed her identity and forced him to go along with her plans by threatening to kill Ayano. (Which she didn't do, though Mako admits she wanted to more than once).

Yukiko and Conan arrived in Gunma to meet her childhood friend, Hiromi Yabuuchi. After that, Hiromi introduces her uncle to Yukiko. Also, Hiromi's uncle has a friend named Carlos from Brazil. However, she has noticed some odd behaviors from her uncle, and since Yukiko also knows the old man from her and Hiromi's childhood times, Hiromi summoned her old friend to see if she can help.

With Yukiko calling Conan her second son to her friends outside the city, Conan must play along and act like he is a genius thanks to detective books. When a murder takes place and he can't figure out the answer, Conan must figure out if his mom will be safe or if she could be the next target.

The killer is '''Yoshifusa Yabuuchi''', who actually is only impersonating the real Yoshifusa Yabuuchi, who died in Brazil years ago and was a good friend of his. The fake Yoshifusa is named '''Dickson Tanaka''', a man born in Brazil to Japanese parents and Carlos' bodyguard, since young Carlos is the real Yoshifusa's son with a Brazilian woman as well as one of the heirs. Dickson Tanaka made everyone believe Carlos was his bodyguard to protect him from the others (since they thought he was a bodyguard, they wouldn't attempt anything against Carlos), and he killed Machiko in self-defense when she attempted to stab him in the bath.

Even more confusing is that '''Keiko Yabuuchi''' set up a timed mechanical crossbow launch to commit suicide. By bad luck their seats were rearranged and the bodyguard was nearly killed by it.

Machiko's aim in killing "Yoshifusa Yabuuchi" was to seize his supposed share of inheritance, not knowing that he wasn't the actual heir since up until then none of the potential heirs knew about the real Yoshifusa's death. (Yoshichika ''did'' know that his brother had died, but he didn't say anything about it save for signaling it in the tape that contained his until-then secret will.) She went to an urban party and gave a phone call to establish an alibi, then drove back in a car waiting for the opportunity to kill. She told Hiromi Yabuuchi in advance to rekindle the fire heating the rural hot-tub creating an opportunity where Yoshifusa could be isolated. Much to her misfortune, Dickson/Yoshifusa was a very skilled martial artist: when she tried to stab him in the bath, he blocked her attack and then redirected it, stabbing Machiko to death as a consequence.

Some of these details are revealed by Shinichi/Conan's father Yusaku, who had followed Yukiko back to Japan and then snuck into the household. Conan himself helps by drugging up Inspector Yamamura and revealing the rest. Dickson accepts his part in Machiko's death and explains his role as Carlos's tutor and bodyguard, then surrenders quietly to the police.

After all is said and done, Yusaku properly reveals himself and goes to Yukiko. The ''other'' reason why she came alone was that they had a big fight in New York, and she shoots down several of his reconciliation attempts - much to Conan's embarrassment.

Does anyone else believe that the main page should be more user friendly? Right now, it doesn't really welcome people to the Wiki, nor does it invite them to contribute themselves, and to help us out. Just never got around to working on it. :/ Our main priorities at the moment are still the tasks under [[Detective Conan Wiki:Projects|Projects]]. From that display of skill, Koichi asks Shinichi to help clear him of the charge of murdering his grandmother. Shinichi realizes that Koichi is trying to establish witnesses for his alibi, which was that he was drunk and sleeping on a secluded patch of grass in the park, having cancelled a trip to visit his grandmother. With some prodding of his memory, Koichi recalls that when he was in the park before he heard a bark and saw a woman walking by on the other side of a short retaining wall with something black, which he believes was a black dog. Shinichi concludes that if a woman walked a dog that day, she will likely be in the park at the same time on other days. He promises to meet Koichi at Beika Park the next morning to investigate, even though that means skipping class to do so.

Walking to school the next day, Shinichi discusses the case with Ran. Ran mentions she knows a woman who walks her dog every day in the park, but Shinichi is disappointed to learn that her walking route is not visible from where Koichi had been. Ran suggests that Koichi might be clairvoyant to have seen them anyway, but Shinichi strongly protests that such abilities don't exist, otherwise there would be no need for detectives or police to solve mysteries. Ran insists that there are some mysteries that no one can solve, even though Shinichi says he can, and they stop talking to each other without resolving the argument. Later that morning, Shinichi finds the woman and dog that Ran mentioned. However, to Shinichi's disappointment, the woman is positive she did not walk past Koichi's position while he was there. Shinichi heads straight home, pondering what Koichi saw and how to confirm the alibi.

The teacher did not see Koichi, but the three kids say that they did see him while chasing a butterfly. Koichi is delighted, but the police refuse to accept witness testimony solely from a trio of three-year-olds. Back at home once again, Shinichi ponders over the mystery of the dog; [[Yusaku Kudo]] offers to help but Shinichi insists on solving the case by himself. Yusaku offers Shinichi's violin to him to "help him think", but Shinichi returns it to its case because he says [[Sherlock Holmes]] only used his violin to pass the time, not to contemplate cases. As Shinichi does, he realizes that the top half of the case looks very similar to the general outline of a dog—certainly an easy mistake for a hungover, sleepy businessman.

The next day, Shinichi once more meets Koichi and the other two policemen at the park. Shinichi asks Koichi and the taller policeman to lie down on the grass and close their eyes. Not long after, the policemen receives news about the true killer and they rush off. Koichi gratefully tells Shinichi that Shinichi will become a great detective.

Subaru Okiya is a graduate student attending Tohto University to earn a doctorate degree in engineering. He originally lived at a boarding house, where the landlord's son nicknamed him "Red Man," after a firetruck, because he frequently saw him watering the plants. After the boarding house burned down in the [[Red, White, Yellow, and the Detective Boys|Red, White, and Yellow Arson Case]], [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] suggested he move into [[Shinichi Kudo|Shinichi]]'s house, explaining to Agasa and [[Ai Haibara|Haibara]] that someone living in the house would help to hide his (Shinichi's) disappearance. Okiya is generally shown to be quiet and reserved, often seeming unfazed by normally stressful situations, such as when Ran attacked him while he was brushing his teeth, believing he had broken into Shinichi's house<ref>Manga [[Volume 61]] File 8: Paper Airplane</ref>, or when a murderer grabbed Ayumi as a hostage.<ref name=Speech>Manga [[Volume 64]] File 3: Thirst for Blood</ref> He often tends to behave in a friendly and modest manner, smiling and rubbing the back of his head whenever someone compliments him or says anything about him. He enjoys cooking and seems ready and willing to help with various tasks. He doesn't mind interacting with the [[Detective Boys]], is always polite to them, and listens to their theories during cases. He is often shown drinking bourbon whiskey.

Okiya becomes more serious while working on cases and enjoys revealing the truth to others similar to Conan. Sometimes he speaks mysteriously, leaving the meaning and intentions of what he said open to interpretation. Okiya has a more menacing side seen whenever he takes to the offensive or is intently focusing on something. In this frame of mind, Okiya triggers Haibara's Black Organization sense.

[[Conan]] trusts Okiya for the most part, and they maintain an amicable relationship. Okiya and [[Hiroshi Agasa|Agasa]] maintain a good relationship with one another. The professor often asks him for favors, like picking the detective boys up from a fishing trip. Agasa also lets Okiya come over and cook from time to time and he will make Agasa food to return the favor, like stir-fried onions and curry. Agasa also seems well informed about when Okiya has free time and is available for favors or when he is on the road.

===Ai Haibara===
[[Ai Haibara]] doesn't trust Okiya because he gives her the chills which she only gets from those who have been in the Black Organization. She hides from him behind Conan when they meet in person and avoids being alone in Agasa's house when he is around. On his part, Okiya is kind to Haibara and seems to look out for her.

Haibara's opinion changes, however, in File 800 after Okiya consoles her when Conan is being abducted by a culprit in a crime. It is revealed afterwards that this is because what he said was similar to what Shuichi Akai had once told her when he was the lover of Haibara's sister, [[Akemi Miyano]]. Because of this, Haibara gains trust in Okiya and starts calling him by his first name.<ref> Chapters 800-803:When Objects Collide </ref>

===Tooru Amuro===
They have not directly met, though Okiya has seen Tooru Amuro many times. In most instances, Okiya is the one to notice Amuro but avoids Amuro seeing him for some reason. During the thirteen red shirts case, both Okiya and Amuro (as [[Scar Akai]]) are present with the hostages. When Okiya is about to send his deductions about the bomber's identity to Kogoro's phone, he sees Amuro, and before Amuro can see him, disappears from the area. During the Conan Edogawa kidnapping case, Subaru leans out the door to shoot at the tires of the car Conan's in, but Amuro's car passes by him, prompting Okiya to close the door to avoid Amuro. At the end of the Bell Train Mystery arc, Okiya is shown observing Amuro and Vermouth from a distance with a smirk, opening one of his eyes which looks like Akai's and giving a strong hint that he is Akai. If it is true then based on what has been said about Akai and Amuro's relation, it's likely he sees Amuro as an enemy, though not to the extent that Amuro views him.

== Background ==
Rikumichi Kusuda was a member of the Black Organization. He was sent by the Organization to search for [[Rena Mizunashi]] in [[Haido Central Hospital]]. He was pretending to be a patient with cervical spine sprain in order to move about the hospital without suspicion. [[Eisuke Hondou]] told [[Ran]] he heard a man dialing [[Nanatsu no ko]] at the hospital and with that information [[Conan]] and [[Shuichi Akai]] were able to figure out which patient Eisuke overheard. Later that night, Rikumichi sneaked to the nurses' station to photograph the patient list and was cornered by the [[FBI]]. In order to escape, he threatened the FBI with fake C4 he had hidden under his neck collar. He drives away, but is unable to warn the Organization because Conan had damaged his phone with water. Shuichi Akai chases him in pursuit and after recognizing exactly which FBI agent was tailing him, he commits suicide. It is unclear what happened to his body and crashed [[Vehicles|Nissan]] afterwards until it was reveled (Manga: [[Volume_85#Scarlet|894-897]]) that his body was swapped out with Shuichi Akai's when Kir is ordered to kill him by Gin. <ref>Manga Chapters 608-609</ref>

== Personality ==
During his short-lived appearance in Episode 498, it is shown Kusuda was extremely loyal to the Black Organization. In addition, Rikumichi seems to have been an experienced spy and was able to write to the boss directly, yet he was not high enough ranking to get a known codename. Though he was cornered by FBI, he was calm and level-headed; he even recognized the trap of FBI early on.

== Background ==
Eisuke Hondou first appeared soon after one of [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]]'s confrontations with the [[Black Organization]], in which it was revealed that popular newscaster [[Hidemi Hondou|Rena Mizunashi]] was one of their members. He enlisted into Teitan High School and quickly made friends with [[Ran Mouri]] and [[Sonoko Suzuki]], who noticed the striking similarity to Mizunashi.

Some time later, Eisuke visited [[Kogoro Mouri|Ran's father]] in his office, where he also ran into Conan. After expressing a vivid interest in Mouri's work, he was invited by Ran to come by anytime, much to the displeasure of Conan, who had become suspicious of Eisuke. This suspicion was confirmed by the fact that in subsequent cases Eisuke made several blunders which would 'incidentally' contribute to the solution of the relevant case.

In time, Conan found out that Eisuke was indeed related to Rena Mizunashi. He had come to Tokyo looking for clues of his sister's whereabouts, sparked by him seeing her working as a newscaster by happenstance. He learned the truth from Conan, Hidemi and [[Shuichi Akai]] - that his sister, as well as [[Ethan Hondou|his late father]], were working for the CIA against the Black Organization. Following this revelation, he was offered a place in the Witness Protection Program, which he refused, though he decided to follow in his family's footsteps by joining the CIA one day. Alone with Conan, he also confessed that he had fallen in love with Ran and wished to take her with him to America. When Conan protested, Eisuke laughed out loud, stating that Conan's reaction was the final confirmation he had needed: that Conan was really [[Shinichi Kudo]], and that in fact he was responsible for the "Sleeping Kogoro's success." With this revelation, he asked Conan/Shinichi to take good care of Ran in his stead, thus promising to keep his secret.

== Personality ==
Eisuke is a person with extremely bad luck. He's constantly bumping into or falling over something. However, his clumsiness belies a sharp intellect and keen talent for observation: With only few clues to work with, he was able to track down his vanished sister to the Haido Central Hospital, where the FBI was keeping her under guard, and even penetrate the facility to confront Rena Mizunashi - who really was his sister [[Hidemi Hondou|Hidemi]] - before he was discovered by Conan. He figured out that Shinichi and Conan were the same person before even meeting Conan and managed to force to the truth out of him later.

As a person, Eisuke is usually quite jovial and friendly, though very emotional at times; in stressful situations he often lets his feelings get the better of him.

While Ran, Sonoko, and Conan visited a friend from Middle School in a hospital, they coincidentally met Eisuke who was looking for his sister who left 10 years ago. His sister looks exactly like Rena Mizunashi but Eisuke insisted that they are different people. To know if they are the same or not, they decided to visit a big fan of hers to confirm it. Koshi Anno, a big fan of Rena, told them that he thinks they're the same person and showed them a video wherein Rena has the same hairstyle as in the picture. But Eisuke insisted that they are different since the video proved that Rena's blood type is AB which can't be possible because when he was a kid, he remembered having blood transfusion from her sister and his blood type is O.

After the winter break, Conan learns from Ran lost contact of Eisuke. The last time that Eisuke talked to her was when he told her that he found a clue on his father's company in Haido Central Hospital, the same hospital wherein Rena was secretly confined. Conan decided to inform Jodie about his suspicions on Eisuke. Jodie told him that Eisuke's father was CIA spy and was killed by Rena four years ago. He later realized that Eisuke found a Black Organization member and is currently in the hospital. The FBI decided to search the Black Organization member hiding in the hospital. While searching in the hospital for clue on Eisuke and the Black Organization, the nurse informed Conan that she remembered Eisuke had a surgery in Tokyo due to his Leukemia.

The night before they decided to move Rena, Eisuke visited Rena's room and forced her to wake up. When he tried to stab her with scissors, Rena stopped him and called him Ei-chan. Conan explained to Eisuke that Rena is his sister and they now have the same blood type, AB, after he had a bone marrow transplant when he was a kid due to Leukemia. Akai told him that her sister is a member of a certain "Organization". Eisuke was then pulled out of the room.<ref>[[Clash of Red and Black|Episode 491-504: Clash of Red and Black]]</ref>

Conan and Haibara meet Ran, Sonoko and Eisuke in a book store. Eisuke remarks that "he probably won't need" a study book the girls are buying, and that he "hates to be restricted by anything; even time." Eisuke visits a karaoke box along with Ran, Sonoko, and Conan. Conan and Haibara notice that a man is trailing the group, and Conan suggests that the man is likely an FBI agent keeping tabs on Eisuke, since he refused access to the Witness Protection Program.

In the karaoke box, Eisuke leaves to visit the bathroom. He takes a very long time to return, and does so with a terrified expression. The body of the man trailing the group is discovered in another room. Conan suspects Eisuke, since he is under the impression that the deceased was tracking him. However, it is soon revealed that the man was in fact a stalker with a fixation on Sonoko. (What had frightened Eisuke was when he mistakenly opened another customer's room, he saw what he mistook as two men kissing.) Ran is very glad that Eisuke is innocent, to the point where her eyes become tearful.

At the ending of the case, Eisuke walks home alone with Conan. He asks Conan to speak with Shinichi about his intentions to marry Ran and live with her in America. Conan angrily tells him that he can't, and reveals his identity as Shinichi Kudo to Eisuke. Eisuke laughs, and informs Conan that he had guessed it all along- showing all his deductions to Conan. He then tells Conan that he will move to America and join the CIA, following in his father and sister's footsteps.

While infiltrating the Black Organization, Hidemi had to cut off all contact with her family including Eisuke. Eisuke never gave up on finding his older sister even though she left when Eisuke was only about seven when she disappeared. Hidemi seemed to care a lot about Eisuke despite being separated; she burst into tears after meeting a young child who had been stalking her because she looked like his dead mother. When she discovered Eisuke was getting close to her trying to uncover her identity, she risked a meeting with Kogoro Mouri, hoping to convince him to take Eisuke away from her to keep him safe.

In [[The Blind Spot in the Karaoke Box]], Eisuke has shown some interest in [[Ran Mouri|Ran]]. He had admitted to Conan that he loved Ran and claimed that he would take Ran to America and live happily ever after there, and thinks if he could ask for Shinichi's permission.
