[[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro]] and [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] are taken by [[Ran Mouri|Ran]] and [[Sonoko Suzuki|Sonoko]] to a Rooster Festival at the Ranburi Shrine. Ran and Sonoko sneak off to have their love fortunes predicted. Sonoko reads Ran's fortune which strongly suggests her to be feminine and avoid mannish conducts. Sonoko is then robbed by a man wearing a hyottoko mask who flees with her purse towards Ran. Ran, hesitant by her love fortune, does not incapacitate him with karate and allows him to escape. Kogoro explains the man has been dubbed as the Rooster Man and is a serial robber at Rooster Festivals. Ran and Sonoko takes Conan with them to visit the festival again to have their love fortunes retold. A woman's scream is heard and they discover that the Rooster Man was spotted and stabbed a man before escaping.

Before losing consciousness, the stabbed man, Shiro Masuko, tells Conan its not rooster but saru and shows him nine fingers. Conan investigates the backpack left behind by the Rooster Man and discovers all the possessions stolen by him. The police arrive and are able to narrow down the Rooster Man to three suspects after witnessing him run into the bathroom. Ran finds a button belonging to the Rooster Man from her previous encounter and has the police investigate which suspect is the owner of the button.

As Conan investigates, he is able to deduce Masuko's message when he realizes it is related to the Chinese zodiac and reveals to Kogoro that the culprit is '''Shinji Mizunoe'''. Conan explains that the ninth sign of the Chinese zodiac refers to monkey and is written as shin in Han. Nine also dictates the Sexagenary cycle where the ninth celestial stem Rén (壬?) can be read in as Mizunoe in Kun'yomi. As for Mizunoe's alibi, Conan explains Masuko was the original Rooster Man and Mizunoe only impersonated him in an attempt to murder him. Conan suggests to Kogoro to have the police investigate to see if the button belongs to Masuko. They discover Ran has the button and realize Mizunoe may attack her for it.

Ran is tasered by Mizunoe and has her wallet taken from her, who reveals to her that Masuko had stolen Mizunoe's account book and, having realized that Mizunoe was embezzling money for his company, tried to blackmail him. Masuko had originally become the Rooster Man in order to blow off the stress from his rigorous university entry exams.

Before intending to kill her, Mizunoe finds Ran's love fortune and reads its content, which suggests Ran to be herself. Ran realizes Sonoko read her own love fortune in place of Ran's, and with her hesitation gone, Ran easily incapacitates Mizunoe.

*[[Conan Edogawa]] on the conclusion actually verbally explains the case to [[Kogoro Mouri]] and [[Sonoko Suzuki]] instead of using his gadgets as usual, but he still somehow convinces them that they have the credit on the case's solution.

After returning to Mouri Detective Agency, Heiji asks them to help find Teruaki Kunisue, a sophmore from Teitan University who Heiji accidentally gave Kazuha's lucky charm. They all head to Teitan University the next day only to find out that he has not been attending classes due to a broken wrist. Ran learns from Kazuha that she left a photo of Heiji in it and does not want Heiji to find out about the charm's contents. Later, Ran, Conan, Heiji, and Kazuha, go to a sports parlor where Teruaki is suppose to be only to discover from the police that Teruaki has been assaulted by an unknown assailant.

Conan and Heiji realize that the soccer game fan, Takuya Kyuma, had been using baseball terms to describe a soccer game meaning he attended a baseball game. They reveal that '''Takuya Kyuma''' attacked Teruaki for a baseball he got from a home run and reveal that the baseball is in his popcorn bag. Kyuma confesses and reveals his dead girlfriend's wish was to get a baseball from a home run. At the hospital, Teruaki decides to let Kyuma have the baseball and drop the charges after hearing his story. Teruaki apologizes to Kazuha and tells her Heiji has her charm. Heiji finds the picture has been doodled on and becomes irritated with Kazuha.

*Hiroshi Agasa and Kogoro Mouri also appear in this episode, whereas in the manga they make their debut in the ''Company President's Daughter Kidnapping Case''.
*The mansion owner kills his wife in the manga. In the anime the owner kills his friend, Yamazaki.
*In the manga, when Ran is trying to kick Shinichi, he leaps out of the way rather than his face ending up under her skirt.

Conan responds by stating that he is Kamen Yaiba. The cola scene was redone in [[Movie 4]].
*In the manga, Genta envisions that the Italian gangsters will shoot him, and imagines himself lying in a pool of his own blood. The anime substitutes a less graphic and more stylized image, with a miniature Genta being riddled with colorful, cartoon-like gunshots.

*At the end of the case in the manga version, [[Kogoro Mouri]] is shown reading a newspaper article about himself because he helped the Police solve the murder of the museum's owner. This marks the first claim to fame of [[Kogoro]]. In the anime version, this is replaced with a scene of the [[Detective Boys]] discussing about the aftermath of the museum, and their plan of investigating a case about a "moving skeleton" at night.

*While searching for Ayumi, the boys notice [[Juzo Megure|Inspector Megure]] in a patrol car. After they find Ayumi, they see Inspector Megure pass by in the patrol car again, this time with a criminal. Both of these moments are anime-only.

*In the manga version of the story [[Gin]] and [[Vodka]] are the masterminds of the case (rather than Okita), and they end up killing [[Akemi Miyano|Masami Hirota/Akemi Miyano]] who informs Conan of the organization's existence. This would lead to [[Ai Haibara|Ai Haibara's]] appearance in the series. Furthermore, Ai makes a silhouetted appearance when Akemi is demanding for herself and her sister to be free of the organization, which is also omitted. To repair the storyline, Episode 128 ''[[The Black Organization: One Billion Yen Robbery Case]]'' was written with a similar ending to the manga version.

===[[Missing Corpse Murder Case]] (Episode 15)/[[Volume_6#Mysterious_Brothers_Case|Formation! The Detective Boys, Mysterious Brothers & Moving Corpse Mystery]] (Chapter 56-58)===
*The manga version of the story takes place before "[[Ayumi-chan Kidnapping Case]]", and is the first story with the Detective Boys' Badges. The story begins with Conan giving them to Mitsuhiko, Genta and Ayumi at school. Afterwards, they go into the P.A. Room to announce themselves to the school as The Detective Boys, only to be kicked out by a teacher, which then ends with them (except for Conan) imagining the fame that will come with their cases. The entire scene is absent from the anime.
*In the anime, the boy who lost his cat is named Hiroki. He is not named in the manga.
*In the manga, it is Ayumi's idea to use the detective badges to make Tomofumi "confess" to Inspector Megure. The anime truncates this scene so the idea looks like Genta's.
*In the manga, Tomofumi states that his impending marriage was what drove him to murder Kazuyoshi. The anime changes and expands his motive, stating instead that Tomofumi (who looked up to Kazuyoshi as a child) had become increasingly disillusioned by his brother's parasitic ways. Tomofumi is also made more mentally unstable in the anime, even re-disguising himself as Kazuyoshi when he chases Conan around the house, yelling that he will ''become'' an ideal version of his older brother.
*In the manga, after Conan knocks out Tomofumi with a iron kettle with the Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes, the kick causes him considerable pain in the foot and he jumps up screaming. Conan's pain is not depicted in the anime episode.

* In the manga, this story marks the debut of Genta, Mitsuhiko, and Ayumi, whereas they had already been featured since the very first episode in the anime.
* In the manga, Ayumi mentions seeing the ''[[wikipedia:Hitodama|hitodama]]'' in the mansion's window in a brief and vaguely-detailed flashback. This flashback is extended into a full prologue for the anime version, which features Ayumi walking home from grocery shopping in the middle of a thunderstorm.

*In the manga, while waiting for Ichiro to return from the restroom, Joji Hatamoto theorizes that the one who released Takeshi from the storeroom was the murdered Tatsuo Hatamoto. His reasoning: Upon learning that the entire inheritance was to be passed on to Natsue only, and not wanting to be cut off, Tatsuo released Takeshi and offered to help prove his innocence in return for a considerable share of the inheritance, and Takeshi, on the pretence of wanting to negotiate with him further, lured Tatsuo to the boat deck where he attacked him there. This is not depicted in the anime.
*In the anime, there is an additional scene not depicted in the manga: After the case is solved, Natsue and Takeshi have a small talk on the boat deck in which Takeshi confessed that he did indeed intially joined the Hatamoto family for revenge, but abandoned his motive after realizing that he had developed genuine feelings for Natsue, and the two make up. Conan and Ran are shown overhearing the conversation.
*In the manga, this marks the first case in which Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] to knock out Kogoro, as well as showing a flashback to Agasa presenting it to him. In the anime, Conan already had it since "[[Valentine Murder Case]]".

Afterwards, Kogoro, Conan and Ran meet with Yumi who hopes to see all of them at the reunion. Meanwhile Kazushi sneaks onto the scene to steal the gun used by the robber (though it's not revealed to be him until Part 2).

*In the manga, Michihiko Suwa is characterized as being far more self-centered and concerned with his career than in the anime. When Matsuo calls the producer claiming that he'll commit suicide by jumping from the television studio roof, he tells Suwa that he will be "going down" with him. Stating that he has listed all of Suwa's misdeeds in his will, Matsuo frightens the producer by insinuating that everything will be written in tomorrow's newspaper. Fearful for his own future, Suwa rushes to the window to try and convince Matsuo not to jump. In the anime, Matsuo does not make such threats, and Suwa runs to the window out of concern for Matsuo's life as opposed to his career being ruined.
*In the manga, when [[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro]]'s deduction show is televised outside of the Nichiuri Television Studio for the public's viewing, more time is spent showing people's reactions to the broadcast than in the anime. One such scene that was entirely omitted involved [[Sonoko Suzuki]]. While watching a movie, her mother tells her to go to bed as it's getting late. In the deleted section, Conan was the seeker and had just finished finding everyone except Genta when the earthquake struck. After recovering, they asked Genta to return to the first floor using the detective badge so they could leave in case of aftershocks. Genta was upset that the game was ending prematurely and yelled into the detective badge. Genta then heard the knocking. The Detective Boys were worried the knocking signaled someone was trapped in the building because of the earthquake, so they investigated and encountered the two workers.

The [[Detective Boys]] hear a rumor from a classmate where a warehouse one second, was filled with treasure and how they all disappeared the next. Before heading to the warehouse to investigate, the Detective Boys drop by [[Conan]]'s house where they run into an unknown person unbeknownst to Conan. During the warehouse investigation, Conan notices that there were recently made footprints from an adult even though the warehouse has been locked up for years and that the footprints lead up to an abacus with an odd number of beads. Conan decides to look through the warehouse by climbing a tree and looking through a window and sees the treasure their classmate was talking about. When they enter the warehouse through the front door, the Detective Boys discover the warehouse is in the same state as when they entered it. While Conan deduces that there might be a mechanism in the roof or in the floor, the Detective Boys prove him wrong declaring that the distance between the window and the roof is two meters from the outside and inside and that the markers they placed on the floors did not change. The marker leaning against the wall however has disappeared causing Conan to wonder what the mechanism in the warehouse is.

Conan investigates and realizes the abacus is a mechanism that reveals the secret room and that the warehouse was made by Samizu Kichiemon (三水吉右衛門). The Detective Boys also receive a text message and realize the trick to the warehouse. The Detective Boys and Conan have the owner of the warehouse call the police before revealing their deductions.

When the police arrive, the Detective Boys explain that the warehouse has a low ceiling which was concealed by the interior design of the warehouse. A fake window was installed inside the warehouse to mimic the distance between the window and the ceiling outside the warehouse. Conan then explains the abacus reveals the secret room in the attic when it is arranged so it represents the Kanji Samizu. The ceiling lowers revealing a room full of stolen goods and the robber who is arrested by the police. Conan reveals to the Detective Boys that he discovered Heiji has been giving them advice during the investigation and forces Heiji to come out of hiding.

Eri states that it would be impossible for Hasaka to carry a body to the bottom of a hill during that time period. During the investigation of Hasaka's salon, Conan notices that the back alley of Hasaka's salon is directly above the garbage collection point and the convenience store is in the opposite direction.

They were then attached to her scooter and, using the force of her scooter, drives to the convenience store causing the string looped around the guardrail to retract and subsequently pulling the chair with enough speed to launch the body over the railing and into the garbage collection point. The longer string which is looped around the convenience store pole retracts the chair back to the Hasaka's beauty salon. Eri reveals that the trash bags Hasaka threw away would contain the weapon used for the murder. Hasaka confesses to the murder revealing that she hated the hair color Nagasaku changed to and since she promised to cut his hair forever, she didn't want to cut it anymore but don't want others to cut it so she murdered him.

Eri Kisaki is visited by Ran and Conan who came to remind her it is the anniversary of her first date with Kogoro. Eri leaves to meet someone at a café after a phone call. Shortly after Eri's cat, Goro, knocks down a vase where Ran finds a picture of a man and her mother's wedding ring. They notice the number on the back of the picture matches the number of the caller causing Ran to believe that her mother is having an affair and thus follows her to the café. Once there, Ran hears the man speak with a woman in a baby talk tone. Eri tearfully tells the man she "could not stop the trembling" and the man replies "it is just a dream".

As Ran is about to assault the man, Conan reveals the man is a '''veterinarian'''. As proof, he reveals the man was talking to the woman's dog in a baby talk tone, not the woman. He also points out that the scratches on the man's arms were from animals he examined. Eri reveals she met with the veterinarian to discuss Goro's somniloquy. After Ran leaves, the veterinarian reveals he thought she was seeking an affair since her clothing were more revealing than usual. Eri reveals that since it was the anniversary of her first date with her husband, she had planned to call him and invite him to dinner while wearing the clothes from their first date but decided to cancel when Ran found out. (She also assumes Kogoro had forgotten the anniversary.) Elsewhere, Kogoro, wearing his clothes from their first date, falls asleep while waiting for Eri's phone call. It seems that Eri named her cat after Kogoro because of Kogoro's catlike sleeping habits.
