Father Brown is a fictional character, an amateur sleuth created in the early 1900s by English novelist G. K. Chesterton. He was the featured detective for Volume 13 of the Detective Conan manga.

About
Father Brown is a short, stumpy Roman Catholic priest, "formerly of Cobhole in Essex, and now working in London", with shapeless clothes and a large umbrella, and an uncanny insight into human evil. He makes his first appearance in the story The Blue Cross and continues through the five volumes of short stories, often assisted by the reformed criminal M. Hercule Flambeau. Father Brown also appears in a story "The Donnington Affair" that has a curious history. In the October 1914 issue of the obscure magazine The Premier, Sir Max Pemberton published the first part of the story, inviting a number of detective story writers, including Chesterton, to use their talents to solve the mystery of the murder described. Chesterton and Father Brown's solution followed in the November issue. The story was first reprinted in the Chesterton Review (Winter 1981, pp. 1–35) and in the book Thirteen Detectives.

Unlike the more famous fictional detective Sherlock Holmes, Father Brown's methods tend to be intuitive rather than deductive. He explains his method in "The Secret of Father Brown": "You see, I had murdered them all myself... I had planned out each of the crimes very carefully. I had thought out exactly how a thing like that could be done, and in what style or state of mind a man could really do it. And when I was quite sure that I felt exactly like the murderer myself, of course I knew who he was."

Brown's abilities are also considerably shaped by his experience as a priest and confessor. In "The Blue Cross", when asked by Flambeau, who has been masquerading as a priest, how he knew of all sorts of criminal "horrors," he responds, "Has it never struck you that a man who does next to nothing but hear men's real sins is not likely to be wholly unaware of human evil?" He also states a reason why he knew Flambeau was not a priest: "You attacked reason. It's bad theology." The stories normally contain a rational explanation of who the murderer was and how Brown worked it out. He always emphasises rationality; some stories, such as "The Miracle of Moon Crescent", "The Oracle of the Dog", "The Blast of the Book" and "The Dagger With Wings", poke fun at initially sceptical characters who become convinced of a supernatural explanation for some strange occurrence, while Father Brown easily sees the perfectly ordinary, natural explanation. In fact, he seems to represent an ideal of a devout, yet considerably educated and "civilised" clergyman. This can be traced to the influence of Roman Catholic thought on Chesterton. He is characteristically humble, and is usually rather quiet; when he does talk, he almost always says something profound. Although he tends to handle crimes with a steady, realistic approach, he believes in the supernatural as the greatest reason of all.
Landmarks
Tokyo Tower/Touto Tower
Tokyo Tower is a communications and observation tower located in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan built in the 1950s. Inspired in design by the Eiffel Tower, this landmark has become a popular tourist and school field trip destination. In the manga and anime series the tower is referred to as Touto Tower. "Touto" is a shorter way of saying Tokyo Metropolis. The tower was featured recently in the 13th movie, The Raven Chaser during the climax of the film.

Tsutenkaku Tower
The Tsutenkaku Tower is a weather and observation tower located in Naniwa-ku, Osaka, Japan built originally in 1912, dismantled, and then rebuilt in the 1950s. This tower, like Tokyo Tower, was inspired in design by the Eiffel Tower in addition to the Arc de Triomphe. The 1912 Tsutenkaku Tower was built next to an amusement park but later dismantled in the 1940s in an effort to thwart American bombing raids. The current tower was built on the same site in the 1950s thanks to the efforts of the citizens of Osaka. Notable appearances of this landmark in Detective Conan include The Naniwa Serial Murder Case, Conan and Heiji and the Vanished Boy, and The Last Wizard of the Century.

Tokyo Sky Tree/Bell Tree Tower
The Tokyo Sky Tree is a broadcasting, restaurant, and observation tower located in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan construction was complete on February 29, 2012, while it opened to the public on May 22, 2012. The Sky Tree was built mostly to give better digital terrestrial television coverage since the Tokyo Tower has long been overshadowed by taller high-rise buildings and is unable to provide the necessary coverage. The in series name for the Tokyo Sky Tree is Bell Tree Tower. Judging from the use of the name "Bell Tree", it seems it was built/is owned in series by the Suzuki Zaibatsu. The Sky Tree replaced the Tokyo Tower as the scene of the climax for Akako's face-off against Kaitou Kid in A Witch Sheds No Tears. The tower has been featured recently in Lupin III vs. Detective Conan: The Movie, The Coded Invitation, and Dimensional Sniper.
Railway Tracks and Stations
Trains and their tracks play important roles in getting the characters around throughout Beika City and the rest of Japan. The prominent railway company is Touto Railways, henceforth referred to as TR, a reference to the real-life Japan Railways (JR).
Loop Line
The Loop Line is the main set of tracks for Beika City and was featured prominently in The Time-Bombed Skyscraper. As its name suggests, this track runs in a loop around Beika City. A majority of the stations seem to be based on the real-life Yamanote Line.　In The Missing Page it is referred to as the Touto Line.

Canon refers to information that is considered "official" by a fictional universe's fan-base. In this case the word canon refers to information that is considered official for Detective Conan.

Canon
In Detective Conan only the information, storylines, settings, and characters found in the manga and information given by Gosho Aoyama in interviews are considered to be canon.

Canonicity is relevant in the fandom because non-canon material can impact the reader's ability to solve the story's mysteries or logically contradict the main storyline. Alterations or omissions in the anime have introduced serious plotholes that create logical inconsistencies or remove clues so that cases are harder or impossible to solve. Because of this, even manga-based episodes are generally considered suspect and the manga overrides the anime in canonicity where the two conflict.

Non-canon
The following sources of information are considered to be non-canon and are deemed unofficial:
*Detective Conan Special
*TV original episodes
Q: During one of the movies Sonoko got a different hairstyle (see movie 5). Is she also going to get this hairstyle in the manga version?<br />
Non-canon information that has become canon
Certain elements from non-canon sources have been turned into canon via Gosho Aoyama and the manga series.

Characters
Wataru Takagi
Wataru Takagi was first introduced in On Location, TV Drama Murder Case as an unnamed police detective that had accompanied Inspector Megure on the scene. For some time, this character only appeared in the TV original episodes directed by Haruo Ogawara. The character's name is first given as "Detective Takagi" in the credits for the Karaoke Box Murder Case despite his face not actually appearing on-screen. Although the Karaoke Box Murder Case was based on a manga story, Takagi does not appear in the original. Takagi receives his first manga canon appearance in the Actor's Apartment Case.

Ninzaburo Shiratori
Ninzaburo Shiratori was first introduced in The Time-Bombed Skyscraper and received his first canon manga appearance in the Treadmill Murder Case as Takagi's rival for Miwako Sato's affections.

Detective Chiba
Detective Chiba was first introduced in the anime version of The Final Screening Murder Case and received his first canon manga appearance in Sato's Father Case. Curiously enough Chiba's first name has not been given in the manga or anime. Aoyama has implied in an interview that since Wataru Takagi was named after his voice actor it was unlikely he would repeat himself by giving Detective Chiba his voice actor's first name (Isshin) too.

Azusa Enomoto
Azusa Enomoto was first introduced in The Mysterious Old Man Disappearance Case as a waitress at Café Poirot as a background character. She receives her name and first speaking appearance in The Deduction That Was Too Good. Her first canon manga appearance occurs during the Forgotten Cellphone Case.

Midori Kuriyama
Midori Kuriyama was first introduced in The Fourteenth Target as Eri Kisaki's secretary and received her first canon manga appearance in the Eri vs. Yukiko case.

Takahiro Sanada
Takahiro Sanada was first introduced in The Eleventh Striker as a new player on the Big Osaka soccer team and received his first canon manga appearance in the Kite-Flying Competition Murder Case.

Events
*Misao Yamamura was first promoted to inspector in The Raven Chaser, and this was referenced in the anime in The Witch Enshrouded by Fog, and then made it to the manga in the Kappa Murder Case.

Other
*The telescopic lens modification for Conan's glasses that was introduced in Countdown to Heaven has entered manga canon in the Unsmashable Snowman Case.
Facts about a fandom or fictional universe that hasn't been confirmed by the creator but the fandom generally accepts as fact.
More widely accepted than headcanons and once confirmed is capable of becoming canon.

Detective Conan Examples
* In fanfiction Shinichi Kudo always, always drinks his coffee black. Some go further to say that he is a coffee addict. This could've been sourced from Sherlock Holmes, who was a cocaine and morphine addict.

Other Examples
* Another point of debate is Kuroba Kaito's eye colour. In the Magic Kaito series it is depicted as blue. On the other hand in Detective Conan as Kaitou Kid it is a darker colour. This is possibly due to the shadows from his hat and the fact that he always appear at night. In the fandom however, Kaito's eyes are usually described as violet or purple.
