=== Situation ===
Child prodigy Hiroki Sawada is introduced by a TV program running in the background, while Hiroki himself is working on a computer. The program host explains that by the age of ten, he is already a MIT graduate school student and has developed a DNA Tracker software and is now in the final stage of his second major project, an artificial brain dubbed Noah's Ark. The program host goes on to explain that Hiroki has been under the guardianship of Thomas Schindler, owner of the software giant Schindler, Inc., since his mother died, and that he has been put under a rigorous study program and has had a somewhat deprived childhood. After turning the TV off, Hiroki finishes Noah's Ark, and sends the software through the telephone lines, which causes his computer to show the message "Noah's Ark Sailed Out", simultaneously triggering an alarm in the guardroom. The security guard calls Thomas Schindler and both try to enter Hiroki's room. When they finally break into Hiroki's room, they find that Hiroki is not in the room. Schindler finds Hiroki's shoes on the balcony; He jumped from the top of the building to his death.

The image on his computer screen shows an ark sailing in water and the words "Good-bye Hiroki."

Two years later, at the Beika City Hall, Schindler, Inc. holds a demonstration of a virtual reality game system called Cocoon. Many kids, including the Detective Boys, are invited to the demonstration. However, only the kids with badges are chosen for the demonstration. Professor Agasa and Yusaku Kudo arrive at the City Hall. Agasa gives Conan Edogawa a badge and tells Conan that his mother, Yukiko Kudo, would not be there because of an alumni reunion. The rest of Detective Boys trick a few kids by exchanging badges for the Premium Golden Yaiba Cards. They all use the badges and participate in the demonstration.

In another room, Schindler kills Kashimura, one of his top employees, and Kashimura types in a dying message: the letters J, T and R.

Conan discovers the murder and decides to participate in the demonstration, hoping that the game would lead him to an answer. Yusaku, having worked with Kashimaru on the game, recognizes that J-T-R stands for "Jack The Ripper".

When the demonstration begins, Hiroki's artificial intelligence system, Noah's Ark takes control of the game system Cocoon. When two of the parents try to get the children out, the parents get shocked by a sudden burst of electricity. Noah's Ark then warns the audience that if all fifty kids in the demonstration lose the game, it will kill the kids with a large electromagnetic burst.

The kids in the demonstration are given a choice of five stages in the game, and Conan and the Detective Boys choose the final stage, a re-creation of an 1800 London mystery. In the beginning of the game, Conan discovers that Agasa's inventions don't work. After receiving a hint from Prof.Agasa they decide to go to Sherlock Holmes for help. As they near 221B Baker Street they meet a strange accordion playing vagrant who sings a strange song, but they shrug it off. Conan and his friends arrive at 221b Baker Street, only to find that Holmes and Watson are at Dartmoor. Mistaken for the Baker Street Irregulars by Mrs Hudson, they are invited inside. Ran finds Sherlock's investigation notes on Jack the Ripper, which implies that Jack is highly likely to have a connection to Professor Moriarty. Since finding the Professor is next to impossible, the kids decide to talk to his right hand man Colonel Moran at his favorite hang-out to find out the Professor's location. After causing a brawl and losing Mitsuhiko, Ayumi and Genta, Conan forces the Colonel into a standoff by holding Moriarty's wine hostage. It is at this moment an elderly gentleman comes and announces that Professor Moriarty requests an audience with the group. After being led to another gentleman in a carriage, Conan calls out Moriarty for testing them; Moriarty was the gentleman who led them there. After explaining their situation, Moriarty reveals that he found and trained Jack the Ripper when Jack was a street urchin. The professor promises the children an opportunity to bring Jack down by posting a message in the next day's newspaper to kill someone, but refuses to name the victim-to-be, telling them they'd find out by reading the paper. The next day after reading the paper they realize the next victim is to be Irene Adler, the only woman Holmes ever loved.

It is revealed by Yusaku that while he and Tadaaki Kashimura were both college friends and partners in developing the game, he was also employed by Kashimura as a detective to investigate the motive behind Hiroki Sawada's suicide. Yusaku also reveals Kashimura was Hiroki's real father. In the real world, Yusaku continues to reveal the truth behind the case. Yusaku reveals that the murderer is the company's president, '''Thomas Schindler'''. Schindler is revealed to also be responsible for Hiroki's suicide. Hiroki discovered the DNA of Jack's second victim on a dagger purported to have belonged to Jack himself through his DNA searching program. Schindler realized that it was only a matter of time before Hiroki would consequently discover that Jack's blood now runs through Schindler himself. Schindler then proceeded to isolate and pressure Hiroki further, ultimately leading to Hiroki's suicide. Kashimura was killed because Noah's Ark gave that same data to Kashimura. Schindler is immediately arrested.

While protecting Irene Adler two more children are lost. Ai also loses while protecting Conan, leaving only three: Conan, Ran and another child, Hideki Moroboshi. They follow Jack the Ripper to a runaway train, where he dons a disguise and merges with the passengers. Conan correctly deduces which one of the passengers Jack is disguised through the use of Sherlock's notes. After being revealed. Jack throws a smoke bomb while Ran charges him. When the smoke clears Conan and Moroboshi find that everyone is gone. Traveling to the engine room they find that there is no driver and that the train is speeding out of control, with the brakes destroyed. Conan discovers Jack and Ran on the top of the train. There, Jack the Ripper reveals that he has tied himself to Ran and threatens Conan. Ran decides to save Conan and sacrifices herself by jumping off the train and into a ravine, taking Jack the Ripper with her. As Conan begins to lose hope, the mysterious vagrant, who is actually Sherlock Holmes, appears and gives Conan some useful advice that eventually helps Conan and Hideki survive the game. After winning the game, Conan reveals that Moroboshi is actually the deceased Hiroki Sawada (in the form of the Ark) in disguise. They chat a little and before saying goodbye to Conan, Hiroki reveals to him that he knows the detective's identity as Shinichi Kudo. After that, the Noah's Ark destroys itself. All the children, including Ran and the Detective Boys, are released from the cocoons. Yusaku then congratulates Conan for beating the game.</spoiler>

The Detective Boys, but not Haibara, are in a puppeteer camping trip in Kirigaoka, Kanagawa Prefecture, where they are practicing for a school puppet play. At the same time, a serial killer has been spotted near the areas of the camp. While at the camp, the students disappear with their puppets, leaving the Detective boys alone. Mitsuhiko assumes that their teacher is the serial killer. After they disappear, even Conan is caught too, only Mitsuhiko remains alone.

After being cornered by the teacher, Mitsuhiko finds out they decided to scare him for being bossy, by the suggestions of Genta and Ayumi. Mitsuhiko runs away angrily but runs into the serial killer. Conan manages to stop the serial killer and he is arrested. Later, Ayumi kisses Mitsuhiko for playing that mean joke on him.</spoiler>

While confusion takes over due to the explosion, Conan meets a mysterious beautiful girl who claims she is "Heiji's fiancée". Her name is [[Momiji Ooka]] and she is the high school champion of the [[Wikipedia:Uta-garuta|karuta]] game from Kyoto Senshin High School. As fate would have it, Kazuha is going to face Momiji in the Hyakunin Isshu, so she begins to train with the help of Heiji's mother, [[Shizuka Hattori|Shizuka]], who is a skilled karuta player.

<spoiler>'''Koji Sekine''' is somehow related to Yajima's murder. Even though the crime scene looks like a robbery, none of Yajima's karuta-related things were touched. Also, the fatal wound was on the front of the head instead of the back or the side, suggesting that the murderer and the victim knew each other. And, Sekine knew that Yajima was beaten down instead of stabbed or slashed, even though the weapon is a katana and Sekine had no opportunity to look at the corpse.</spoiler>

Later, Ran finds out that Heiji once made a yubikiri/pinkie promise to 'take Momiji as his bride'.

Conan and Heiji, along with the Osaka and Kyoto police departments, begin their investigation on the Satsuki Cup and the related murder case. As the inquiry goes on, they come across a secret connected with the Hyakunin Isshu. They found that the cards that were left at the crime scene and sent by email to victims were all Shikao Nagoro's favorite cards, all of which had 'Momiji' in their poems.

<spoiler>As Sekine wakes up, it is learned that he heard Yajima had been searching for Nagoro, and decided to surveil Yajima, only to find the latter's corpse.

'''Kensuke Achiwa''' is the mastermind of these crimes, while '''Togo Kaieda''' is the one carrying out the plan. Unbeknownst to the latter, Kensuke planned to kill him as well, in order to make it look like Nagoro accidentally killed himself. Nagoro, who had been missing for five years, had actually been killed by Kensuke's wife '''Satsuki Achiwa''', who was shocked and afraid after losing to Nagoro one day before the scheduled match. Kensuke witnessed the murder of Nagoro, and decided to hide it so that no one knows. The fact that Kensuke didn't wash his car before the match suggests this, as everyone knows that Kensuke always do this every time Satsuki had a match. Yajima also noticed this and want to have evidence - the karuta cards that have fingerprints from a hand stained with Nagoro's blood; that's why he was murdered. Kensuke planned to kill himself along with Momiji and her opponent in the finals, who happens to be Kazuha, at Satsuki Hall, where Nagoro's body is kept hidden. Before he detonates the bombs, however, Momiji reveals that the reason why Nagoro challenged Satsuki one day before the scheduled match is not to humiliate her, but rather to show her - Nagoro's first love - the full extent of his skills before he lost his sight. The hall then starts to crumble because of the previous explosions. Conan, Kensuke and Momiji evacuate using the elevator, while Heiji uses his bike to take Kazuha to a nearby ledge.

After the case is solved, it is finally learned that the story between Momiji and Heiji is actually a misunderstanding. Back then, when Heiji defeated Momiji, he said "next time, I'll be even '''stronger''' (tsuyome)", but Momiji misheard it as "yome" (bride). Momiji calls her butler immediately and leaves, but not before finally calling Kazuha by her name and declaring that once she has a favorite card, she won't let anyone take it from her.</spoiler>

The message in hiragana spells out "Ma-Na-Mi", which points to Manami herself. Further evidence indicates that the strangely wiped blood on the floor matches the stain on her sock. Manami confesses that Daizo was responsible for the failure of her husband's surgery and his subsequent death because Daizo was drunk before performing the surgery. She couldn't find any witnesses because everyone was scared of Daizo. Thus Manami came to work at Daizo's house as a housekeeper to eventually murder him on the day of her husband's death anniversary.

While sorting mail at [[Hiroshi Agasa|Professor Agasa]]'s house, Conan finds a strange letter (an invitation to a tea party) which is addressed to [[Shinichi Kudo]]. The letter was sent from a man named Teiji Moriya who is a famous architect. Conan calls [[Ran Mouri]] using his [[Voice-Changing Bowtie|Voice-Changing Bowtie]] to mimic Shinichi's voice and tells her that he can't go to the tea party and asks if she would go in his place. He tells her to bring her dad, Kogoro Mouri, and "that kid" (referring to Conan).

Ran says she will do it but only if he goes to a movie with her on Saturday. Conan tries to make her change the date, but she is determined that it has to be on May 3rd. She then asks him what his favorite color is: red or blue. He says that it's red. Conan leaves the pay phone and, while walking home, tries to figure out why Ran wants the date to be on May 3rd. While on the way home he meets [[Juzo Megure|Inspector Megure]] who introduces him to [[Ninzaburo Shiratori]].

While eating dinner with Ran and Kogoro, Ran tells Conan that she's taking Shinichi to the movies on May 3rd and when it hits midnight she will give her gift to him (which is a red polo shirt). Conan then realizes that May 4th is his birthday.

Conan tricks Kogoro into going to the tea party as Kogoro doesn't want to go in the first place. They meet Teiji Moriya and tell him that Shinichi couldn't make it but that Kogoro is another famous detective. Moriya gives everyone a quiz and asks them to solve it. Conan is the first to solve it, so he gets to go to see Moriya's gallery with Ran. While observing the pictures, Ran tells Moriya that she is going to the movies with Shinichi and is going to be watching it in one of the buildings he designed.

The next day, Ran goes out to get some food while Conan goes to Agasa's house, trying to think of what to do for his movie "date" with Ran. A news station on T.V. reports that someone stole a large quantity of octogen, which is the main component for plastic explosives. Right after the report, Professor Agasa receives a phone call asking for Shinichi. The caller, who is using a voice changing device, tells Shinichi that he is the one who stole the octagon and tells him to give him his mobile phone number. Conan tells him his number and the man instructs him to go to Greenbelt Park or else the kids will die.

Conan uses his skateboard and rushes to Greenbelt Park where he finds [[Genta Kojima]], [[Ayumi Yoshida]], and [[Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya]] playing with a remote controlled plane. Mitsuhiko tells Conan that a man with a mustache and a beard gave it to them. Conan notices that there is a bomb on the plane, so he takes the controller away from Mitsuhiko but he refuses to give it to Conan since it's Genta's turn. Conan tells them that there is a bomb on it and they drop it and the antenna breaks. The plane begins flying uncontrollably, so Conan uses his [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] and kicks the controller into the plane, blowing it up. Conan then realizes that this isn't a prank because those were plastic explosives. He then gets another call telling him about another bomb.

Conan figures out that the famous architect '''Teiji Moriya''' has been the bomber all along. He was driven to this due to his obsession with symmetry. His plan was to blow up his older, less symmetrical buildings and replace them with symmetrical structures (all of the bomb targets were either at or near buildings he designed). His hatred for Shinichi is due to the fact that because of him, Mayor Okamoto(who supported his "Perfect Nishita Town") failed to become Nishita Town's governor, and his building plan was stopped. With his crimes exposed, Moriya attempts to detonate the bombs inside his house, but is stopped when Conan reveals that he removed the batteries earlier when he planted some fake evidence (Moriya's disguise outfits) to lure him into spilling the beans. However, Moriya taunts the group that he has '''one more''' place that he wants to destroy.

Several bombs are revealed to be in the mall where Ran is. They explode and many civilians get trapped in the building. Conan (who enters the building after the first explosion) contacts Ran (using his tie to mimic his Shinichi voice) and tells her that she must find and disarm the last and largest bomb. Ran finds the box with the bomb. Conan, who is now separated from Ran by a damaged door, guides her through cutting various wires using plans left by Moriya. Ran is down to 2 wires, a red one and a blue one. The plans do not include any instructions regarding these two wires. If the wrong one is cut, it would result in the bomb detonating.

Conan loses hope, since this means that there's almost no way to keep the bomb from exploding, and tells Ran to do as she likes, since they are going to die together at this rate. Conan is then found by rescue workers and taken out of the building while realizing then the red wire is booby-trapped. However, Ran can no longer hear Conan's instructions, so he believes her to be in trouble. To his surprise, Ran cuts the '''blue wire''' and saves everyone. Conan asks Ran why she didn't cut the red wire (her lucky color). She replies that she didn't cut because she didn't want to sever the red string of fate between her and Shinichi.

The movie ends with Conan remarking that there is no "red string", and mentions that it's because "it's no use... as long as I'm Conan".

Prior to the Summit, an explosion went off at one of the building, killing and injuring many [[Public Security Bureau]] personnel performing inspection there, including [[Tooru Amuro]] and [[Yuya Kazami]].

A preliminary investigation found the fingerprint which matches the [[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro]]'s, and with other evidence purportedly located inside his computer, Kogoro is arrested. After a hopeless search for a lawyer who is willing to represent Kogoro in the trial, [[Ran Mouri|Ran]], [[Eri Kisaki|Eri]], and [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] encountered a freelance lawyer, Kyoko Tachibana, who offered to represent Kogoro in the case.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Attorney-General believes that the evidence incriminating Kogoro is sufficient to build the case, and Sayoko Iwai, the Attorney-General, instructed Makoto Kusakabe to prosecute Kogoro. At the same time, the police investigation of the case is ongoing, and it was discovered that the gas valve and pressurized cooker can be connected to the internet (Internet of Things (IoT)) and that the two was remotely accessed via Nor (resembling Tor) through Kogoro's device to cause the explosion. On the day of the conference, people are experiencing strange cases of IoT devices malfunctioning, causing electrical short circuit and fire around Tokyo. At that time, Kogoro was being held in Tokyo Penitentiary, which means Kogoro could not have been the culprit in the bombing and the IoT attack, and the case against him was dropped.

<spoiler>The true culprit is the prosecutor '''Makoto Kusakabe'''. He employed an assistant named Fumikazu Haba, who previously worked with and fall in love with Tachibana. During the investigation by Kusakabe, Haba discovered that the culprit that hacks into the system of NAZU (resembling NASA) are working in a game company. Haba was arrested for breaking into the game company and was presumed dead after the interrogation by Amuro, causing Kusakabe to exact revenge on the Public Security Bureau. Amuro then revealed that Haba's death was faked to ensure that the public prosecutor will not employ the help of the assistant in the same manner as he did to Haba again.

However, Kusakabe already hacked into the system to change the projectile of the capsule launched from Hakuchō to crash to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police building, but he causes blackout at the building and initiates the IoT attack at the nearby vicinity to allow police personnel and other residents to be evacuated to the Edge of Ocean. Although Kusakabe relented and gave up the access code, it was almost too late, and Conan and Amuro employed help from Professor Agasa, Haibara, and the Detective Boys to detonate the bomb near the capsule in order for the capsule to fall into the harmless spot. With the point of impact being the casino tower at the Edge of Ocean, Amuro and Conan race against time and traffic to allow Conan to shoot the ball to deflect the capsule, and the capsule falls harmlessly into the water.</spoiler>

=== Situation ===
Mysterious assassinations have been happening around the world. The suspect is a spy accessing classified files. In Japan, this woman breaks into Tokyo police headquarters and accesses secret files on spies planted in the [[Black Organization]] by many intelligence agencies: the English [[wikipedia:_Secret_Intelligence_Service|MI6]], the Canadian [[wikipedia:_Canadian_Security_Intelligence_Service|CSIS]], the German [[wikipedia:_Federal_Intelligence_Service_(Germany)|BND]], and the American [[Central Intelligence Agency|CIA]] and [[Federal Bureau of Investigation|FBI]]. Before this spy can steal the files, [[Rei Furuya]] arrives with a cadre of his [[Public Security Bureau|secret police officers]]. The spy makes a getaway in a stolen car, but Rei soon catches up in his [[Cars#Rei.27s_Mazda_RX-7|Mazda FD RX-7]]. The two jockey for position on the highway and are about to cause a huge wreck. Before they can crash, [[Shuichi Akai]] snipes the spy's car from the hood of [[Cars#Akai.27s_Ford_Mustang|his red and white striped Ford Mustang]]. The spy's car tumbles off the highway and explodes.

The next day, [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]], [[Hiroshi Agasa|Professor Agasa]], [[Ai Haibara|Haibara]], and the [[Detective Boys]] meet up at the newly renovated "Tohto Aquarium". Under the centerpiece of the park, a massive ferris wheel, they find an injured woman with "odd eyes" ([[wikipedia:_heterochromia_iridum|heterochromia]]). The woman is suffering memory loss, she doesn't know her own name and even her cellphone is broken. Conan and his friends decide to stay together with her and help her to recover her lost memory. Unknown to Conan and his friends, [[Vermouth]] had been lurking nearby with a silenced pistol and had overheard everything. She pulls back and contacts her comrades: "It's as planned, [[Gin]]." The woman in question is in fact a new member of the Black Organization.

At the beginning of the movie, Ran has a dream of her mother, Eri, being shot. Ran later calls Eri and tells her of her dream.

The scene then briefly changes to a scene of a jail, where a man named Jo Murakami holds out a notebook that says, "Beika City, Kogoro Mouri."

The scene transitions again to the Detective Boys waiting on a bench for Professor Agasa. While waiting, Ayumi tries a love match, and the machine tells her Conan and Ayumi are a perfect match. She then tries Conan's fortune, which is "A chance for an A (kiss)"; when Conan hears this he wonders how old that machine is. Agasa then comes, and takes the Detective Boys to the Tohto<ref name="tohto">[[:File:Spelling of 東都.jpg]]</ref> Aeronautic Memorial Museum.

On display there, there are many kinds of helicopters and planes. While there, Agasa tries to give a quiz, only to be intercepted by Mitsuhiko. Mitsuhiko's quiz: Three guys, born on New Year's Day, April Fool's, and Children's Day formed a club. What was their club called? The answer: Tonakai (Reindeer). If you add up their birthdays, they become To-na-kai, a kind of audio-visual pun. Once Conan answers the quiz, they see Shishido Eimei taking pictures around the museum. Back at the Mouri Detective Agency, Jo Murakami is shown knocking on the door. When he gets no answer, he leaves.

Ran is shown with Sonoko at the autograph signing of one of the essayist, Minoru Nishina, his books, where she tells him to keep writing "tasty" books. They later go to a café, and Ran mentions the fight that caused Kogoro's and Eri's divorce when she was seven. Ran also mentions that the dinner with Eri is at seven o'clock.

Conan later comes back to the agency to see Kogoro just getting ready. He sees a TV interview on Katsuyoshi Asashi, the owner of the entertainment complex, "Aquacrystal", but Ran turns the TV off and Conan quickly gets ready.

At the dinner at the restaurant, "La Fleur", Eri is shown to be as sharp as ever, predicting that Kogoro would be late because he played mahjong until late. Right after, a professional golfer by the name of Hiroki Tsuji, also an acquaintance of Kogoro's, comes into the restaraunt. Kogoro mentions that Tsuji is participating in the U.S. Open.

During a dinner, Ran shows a suprising amount of knowledge about wine, knowing what the grape badge (a mark of a sommelier) was for, what the tastevin around the sommelier's neck is what its for.
Conan is shown enjoying the dinner, but Ran later notices that Conan's mouth is dirty, and tries to clean him up. At the moment, Conan remembers his fortune "A chance for a kiss" and blushes. However, Kogoro uses his cloth to clean Conan up, which gets Conan angry.
Kogoro and Eri show suprisingly good chemistry during the dinner, and during the converstation Eri mentions 10 years ago when Kogoro and Eri came to this restaraunt. But then, Kogoro suddenly notices Peter Ford, a newscaster, near Towako Okano. When Kogoro expresses anger, believing that Ford was flirting with Okano, Eri mistakenly thinks that Kogoro loves Okano, and leaves.

A week later, Megure is shown shot by an arrow while jogging along with [[Midori Megure|his wife]].

Kogoro, the Detective Boys, and Ran come to visit Megure in the hospital. Shiratori tells them that the arrow was shot with a crossbow, and a western sword was found at the scene.

Later, Eri is shown at her office, and her assistant gives her a package with Zigoba chocolates inside. Eri eats one, but suddenly falls unconscious, poisoned by agricultural chemicals.

However, Eri is not in danger, as she was quickly rushed into the hospital. On the chocolate box, there is a paper flower that seems familiar to Conan.

Conan is later shown with Professor Agasa, the latter fixing up Conan's skateboard, when suddenly the front door is shattered with a rock. When Agasa goes to investigate what happened, he is shot by a mysterious person on a motorcycle.

When the man flees, Conan gives chase on his skateboard, but quickly loses him at a fork. He contacts the Detective Boys to look for a bike, where the Detective Boys give the man's approximate location. When the person sees Conan, he suddenly sharply turns and rides up and down a stairway. Conan tries to give chase, but is distracted by a falling old woman, and loses the person. When Conan returns to the house, he finds a mysterious object, and finally realizes the connection between the sword, the flower, and the strange object, as well as the victims.

The sword, flower, and the strange object are objects held by the King, Queen, and Jack of playing cards. In addition, Megure's first name, Juzo, can be read as 13. Kisaki in English means Queen. Agasa's last name Hiroshi's last character, shi, is a combination of 10 and 1. Megure comes into the room, and tells that Jo Murakami may be the culprit of the serial killing. Kogoro also mentions that it wouldn't be strange if Murakami has a grudge, giving that he arrested the latter before. When Shiratori tries to give specifics, Megure suddenly cuts him off. Kogoro then mentions that he knows someone with ten, or "tou" in her name, Towako. The police quickly rush and place Towako under protection. When Ran and Conan later asks Shiratori what he was going to say, he mentions that Murakami tried to escape arrest, and held Ran's mother as hostage.

When Conan calls Ran as Shinichi later, she asks him if he would shoot on a captor. Conan mentions that although Kogoro did shoot Eri, he questions if that was the whole truth, and hangs up. At the agency, Conan later sees another person with ten in his name, Hiroki Tsuji. Megure, Kogoro, and Shiratori quickly rush to Tsuji's location, along with Ran and Conan. Tsuji refuses to cancel the trip, but allows Megure and Mouri to escort him to Tohto<ref name="tohto" /> Airport. Conan is later shown to have snuck on the helicopter.

During the flight, Tsuji suddenly suffers sun glare.

Conan attempts to land the helicopter at Teitan Elementary. In addition, Conan contacts the Detective Boys, who attempt to evacuate everyone in the schoolyard. However, the helicopter hits a downdraft, causing it to crash. The helicopter later explodes due to a gas leak.

The eye drops that Tsuji used turned out to be mydriatic medicine, making Tsuji's pupils dilate and cause him to be blinded by the sun. Because mydriatic medicine takes from 10 days to two weeks, Tsuji ends up unable to participate in the U.S. Open. Kogoro mentions that he knows no one with nine in their name, but he knows an eight, Kohei Sawaki. Megure, Kogoro, Conan, and Ran visit Kohei Sawaki at his residence. Sawaki turns out to have a somewhat large collection of wine in his apartment, and while Conan is walking, he notices some damage on the floor. Sawaki mentions that he dropped a wine bottle there. Sawaki mentions that he will be going to Aquacrystal, to have a meeting with the owner Asahi about the restraunt over there. At the moment, Shiratori then notices there is a nine in Asahi.

Conan and Ran follow Megure and Kogoro over to Aquacrystal, where they meet Osani '''Nana'''-san (seven), '''Ni'''shina Minoru (two), '''Shishi'''do Eimei (six), Peter '''Ford''' (Four) - Last name (Ford) has phonetic similarity to "four." They ride the monorail over to the main complex. Once they get to the restaraunt, they notice that Shiratori Nin'''zabu'''ro has a three. Ran mentions that Shin'''ichi''' is one.

Osani then challenges Minoru Nishina, saying the restaraunt Nishina recommended was terrible.
Osani gives Nishina a blind tasting challenge, where Nishina incorrectly deducts Chambertin. Sawaki then correctly deducts the wine, saying it was a Beaujolais Moulin-a-Vent.

Conan gets some juice for Ran, and suprisingly Kogoro takes the other juice instead of drinking beer. When Conan goes and gets some more juice, he notices Sawaki tasting some chili powder.

When the crew later browses the wine chamber, Sawaki narrowly dodges a booby trap apparently setup by Murakami.

The police realize that Asahi may be already dead. While the crew tries to leave, Nana notices the drowned body of Asahi, and the entrance to the restaraunt is locked.

The emergency exit is blocked with cement, leaving no way of escape. The rest spread out to look for alternate exits, Nana stays behind with Ran and Conan. When Conan tries to look too, he puts down the juice can and tries to run. However, Ran catchs him. But then, the power cuts, which sends Nana into a panic. When the lights come back on, Nana is found stabbed.

Conan goes and gets some mineral water for everyone. While everyone drinks, Conan mentions he found the true culprit. At that moment, the lights go off by an explosion. Another explosion causes the restaraunt to flood. Kogoro saves Nishina, who is a hopeless swimmer, and Conan notices everyone but Ran made it.

Conan reveals that the culprit was not Murakami due to the fact that Murakami is left-handed, but the culprit was right-handed. '''Kohei Sawaki''' is the culprit. He notes Sawaki has aguesia, a disorder that robs the ability to taste. He supports this by the fact Sawaki was tasting chili pepper, while a regular sommelier would never do something like this. He also mentions that while Conan brought mineral water to the crew, Sawaki's cup was the only one with salt. Conan also tells that Nana has left the evidence that Sawaki is the murderer in his pocket: the cork that she drew with her nail polish, as well that the still missing Ace of Spade that he still has in possession. Sawaki reveals that wanted to take revenge against Nana for being responsible for the accident that caused him this condition, Tsuji for mocked him of his sommelier's pride, Asahi for not taking care of prized wines properly, and Nishina for his bad writings about the wines.

Sawaki reveals he "strangled" Murakami to death. Out of all the victims, Sawaki only wanted to kill Hiroki Tsuji, Katsuyoshi Asashi, Nana Osani, and Minoru Nishina. The motive for attacking the other victims according to card numbers was because Sawaki wanted to camouflage the motive as Murakami taking revenge on Kogoro and to remove suspicion from himself by hiding amongst the victims. The bomb was an attempt to drown Nishina as he can't swim, and to kill the rest should they couldn't make it out alive. He also reveals that he murdered Murakami, who redeemed himself and wanted to make peace with Kogoro, and using him as the scapegoat for all the continuous crimes.

With all his crimes exposed, Sawaki attempts to escape while taking Ran hostage. He also sets off more explosives, causing the Aquacrystal to collapse. Kogoro, Megure, and Conan give chase to Sawaki.

When Shiratori points a gun at Sawaki on the rooftop, Conan mentions that because his hands are shaking, it would hit Ran. Shiratori throws his gun as a sign of surrender. When Sawaki sees Megure and Shiratori getting ready to attack, he demands that Conan bring the gun to him. Conan picks up the gun, then realizes why Kogoro shot Eri back then. He shoots, while the bullet barely grazes Ran, knocking her unconscious. Kogoro takes down Sawaki, and helps Conan save Ran. When Sawaki tries to commit suicide, Kogoro saves him, demanding he stay alive to face justice. The people remaining leave on the helicopter, Kogoro remembers he is scared of heights.

Afterward Ran is sent to hospital while holding Ace of Spade "the survived Shinichi". She and Conan later visit Eri to learn the real reason of their separation; Kogoro telling her to stop cooking since her food is bad (as his way of caring of telling her to rest instead). Ran and Conan however, know fully well that Eri's cooking is indeed "not so good".

The message in hiragana spells out "Ma-Na-Mi", which points to Manami herself. Further evidence indicates that the strangely wiped blood on the floor matches the stain on her sock. Manami confesses that Daizo was responsible for the failure of her husband's surgery and his subsequent death because Daizo was drunk before performing the surgery. She couldn't find any witnesses because everyone was scared of Daizo. Thus Manami came to work at Daizo's house as a housekeeper to eventually murder him on the day of her husband's death anniversary.

While sorting mail at [[Hiroshi Agasa|Professor Agasa]]'s house, Conan finds a strange letter (an invitation to a tea party) which is addressed to [[Shinichi Kudo]]. The letter was sent from a man named Teiji Moriya who is a famous architect. Conan calls [[Ran Mouri]] using his [[Voice-Changing Bowtie|Voice-Changing Bowtie]] to mimic Shinichi's voice and tells her that he can't go to the tea party and asks if she would go in his place. He tells her to bring her dad, Kogoro Mouri, and "that kid" (referring to Conan).

Ran says she will do it but only if he goes to a movie with her on Saturday. Conan tries to make her change the date, but she is determined that it has to be on May 3rd. She then asks him what his favorite color is: red or blue. He says that it's red. Conan leaves the pay phone and, while walking home, tries to figure out why Ran wants the date to be on May 3rd. While on the way home he meets [[Juzo Megure|Inspector Megure]] who introduces him to [[Ninzaburo Shiratori]].

While eating dinner with Ran and Kogoro, Ran tells Conan that she's taking Shinichi to the movies on May 3rd and when it hits midnight she will give her gift to him (which is a red polo shirt). Conan then realizes that May 4th is his birthday.

Conan tricks Kogoro into going to the tea party as Kogoro doesn't want to go in the first place. They meet Teiji Moriya and tell him that Shinichi couldn't make it but that Kogoro is another famous detective. Moriya gives everyone a quiz and asks them to solve it. Conan is the first to solve it, so he gets to go to see Moriya's gallery with Ran. While observing the pictures, Ran tells Moriya that she is going to the movies with Shinichi and is going to be watching it in one of the buildings he designed.

The next day, Ran goes out to get some food while Conan goes to Agasa's house, trying to think of what to do for his movie "date" with Ran. A news station on T.V. reports that someone stole a large quantity of octogen, which is the main component for plastic explosives. Right after the report, Professor Agasa receives a phone call asking for Shinichi. The caller, who is using a voice changing device, tells Shinichi that he is the one who stole the octagon and tells him to give him his mobile phone number. Conan tells him his number and the man instructs him to go to Greenbelt Park or else the kids will die.

Conan uses his skateboard and rushes to Greenbelt Park where he finds [[Genta Kojima]], [[Ayumi Yoshida]], and [[Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya]] playing with a remote controlled plane. Mitsuhiko tells Conan that a man with a mustache and a beard gave it to them. Conan notices that there is a bomb on the plane, so he takes the controller away from Mitsuhiko but he refuses to give it to Conan since it's Genta's turn. Conan tells them that there is a bomb on it and they drop it and the antenna breaks. The plane begins flying uncontrollably, so Conan uses his [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] and kicks the controller into the plane, blowing it up. Conan then realizes that this isn't a prank because those were plastic explosives. He then gets another call telling him about another bomb.

Conan figures out that the famous architect '''Teiji Moriya''' has been the bomber all along. He was driven to this due to his obsession with symmetry. His plan was to blow up his older, less symmetrical buildings and replace them with symmetrical structures (all of the bomb targets were either at or near buildings he designed). His hatred for Shinichi is due to the fact that because of him, Mayor Okamoto(who supported his "Perfect Nishita Town") failed to become Nishita Town's governor, and his building plan was stopped. With his crimes exposed, Moriya attempts to detonate the bombs inside his house, but is stopped when Conan reveals that he removed the batteries earlier when he planted some fake evidence (Moriya's disguise outfits) to lure him into spilling the beans. However, Moriya taunts the group that he has '''one more''' place that he wants to destroy.

Several bombs are revealed to be in the mall where Ran is. They explode and many civilians get trapped in the building. Conan (who enters the building after the first explosion) contacts Ran (using his tie to mimic his Shinichi voice) and tells her that she must find and disarm the last and largest bomb. Ran finds the box with the bomb. Conan, who is now separated from Ran by a damaged door, guides her through cutting various wires using plans left by Moriya. Ran is down to 2 wires, a red one and a blue one. The plans do not include any instructions regarding these two wires. If the wrong one is cut, it would result in the bomb detonating.

Conan loses hope, since this means that there's almost no way to keep the bomb from exploding, and tells Ran to do as she likes, since they are going to die together at this rate. Conan is then found by rescue workers and taken out of the building while realizing then the red wire is booby-trapped. However, Ran can no longer hear Conan's instructions, so he believes her to be in trouble. To his surprise, Ran cuts the '''blue wire''' and saves everyone. Conan asks Ran why she didn't cut the red wire (her lucky color). She replies that she didn't cut because she didn't want to sever the red string of fate between her and Shinichi.

The movie ends with Conan remarking that there is no "red string", and mentions that it's because "it's no use... as long as I'm Conan".

Tomoko tearfully said that she suspected '''Dr. Tanaka''' of being the killer, and she was right. Tanaka killed poor Mitsuko since she was his girlfriend at the time, but he had been offered a very good arranged marriage to his boss's daughter. Thinking that Mitsuko's presence would ruin an alliance that would further his career, he decided to take her out of the picture, permanently.

Tanaka brought a swim ring and hid it, then called Mitsuko for a date. He drugged Mitsuko and took her to the seaside; then he tied up a boulder to her bare feet, put the swim ring around her and left her ashore. The waves took the still unconscious Mitsuko inside the sea and soon she was at the bottom of the sea, unable to escape and ultimately drowning. Meanwhile, Tanaka was out drinking with other friends of his (and with Kogoro, Ran, and Conan around as well), and this was his alibi.

The biggest mistakes that Tanaka commited were:

* Buying the swim ring ''in'' the village. Conan asked around and easily found the person who sold it to Tanaka, who was told by him that he'd give it to a friend's child as a gift; he also showed around some photos, with the seller recognizing the ring.

* Tying Mitsuko's feet in a way that, when photos were compared to Ran doing likewise under orders of Kogoro-via-Conan, was highly suspicious. They were tied up with the string's ends towards her toes, instead of the other way round; that was a proof that she had not tied the boulder to her own body, but somebody else had done so.
