== Background ==
Jinpei Matsuda was originally a member of the Tokyo Police bomb squadron. His partner [[Kenji Hagiwara]] was killed four years previously by a serial bomber in Shinjuku<ref>The license plate number of his murderer's car, a 1992 Gray Toyota Corolla Van DX [E100], in the anime version is 新宿 400, せ 12-75 (Shinjuku 400, Se 12-75).</ref> who had sworn revenge on the police for the accidental death of his partner. When the killer resurfaced three years ago, Matsuda's superiors, fearing that he would become reckless due to personal interest, transferred him to [[Juzo Megure|Megure]]'s department, where he was promptly partnered with [[Miwako Sato]], then a rather new detective.

Sato was at first put off by his direct manner, but then the bomber appeared in their district less than a week later, depositing an explosive charge in a Ferris wheel at an amusement park. Jinpei was [[Miwako Sato]]'s love interest who died inside the Ferris Wheel planted with a bomb, where he waited for the last few seconds before the explosion of the bomb in order to obtain the clue to figuring out the culprit behind the bombing cases. While Sato originally found him cold and aloof, they still grew close and cared deeply about each other, falling in love at some point of time after he transferred to Sato's division and met her. His death haunted Sato for a long period of time, and she kept his last message to her in her cell phone as a memento of him. However, Sato was able to let go of Jinpei's death following the apprehension of the bomb culprit as well as Takagi's advice towards her and also deleted his last message to her as a sign of putting his death behind her. Regardless, Sato vows to never forget about him. She has also apparently cultivated a slight fear of Ferris Wheels as shown when she was stunned and shocked upon seeing a Ferris Wheel while chasing a culprit in the amusement park, when she had been on a date with Takagi some time after, to the point that it caused her legs to give in and for her to burst into tears.

Unfortunately for him, he died, and Jinpei decided to avenge him although himself died at the hands of the same bomber four years later. Kenji Hagiwara was a member of the [[Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department]] bomb squadron and [[Jinpei Matsuda]]'s explosive disposal partner. He died in the first of a series of bombings seven years prior to the current timeline.

Kenji is a pretty carefree guy who always have time to joke a bit. He is a heavy smoker and does the job right. He prevents other people so they can be saved before him and always respect his friends.

Kenji is an average height man with lond black hair and white skin. He is pretty well-built and strong.

He has the ability to defuse bombs really quickly but not as quick as Matsuda. He was one of the bests in police academy which granted him a quick hire in the MPD Bomb Squadron. He is able to put on and off his defusal suit really faster than average people.

In the case, there is a flashback of seven years ago in a residential building where two bombs were planted by two serial bombers who had just started his bombing spree. Jinpei Matsuda defused the first with ease and the city paid the ransom for the second bomb so the bombers stopped the bomb. The second bomber died as he panicked when he ran and to avenge himself, the other bomber restarted the second bomb. Kenji Hagiwara and a few other squad members where called to room twenty on the floor before the last to defuse the bomb. At first, the squad members took a pause to wait until everybody had been evacuated and Kenji lit his cigarette to chill. Everybody waited patiently until they received a call from the operators telling them they could start. Then, as they got started, Hagiwara's friend Jinpei Matsuda called him to tell him to quit playing and to defuse it already but Hagiwara told him the bomb's timer stopped. Upon analyzing the bomb, he deduced the bomb would take a bit more than three minutes to defuse but he quickly realized that there were only six seconds left and unfortunately, part of the squad members died along with Hagiwara. Four years later, it was Matsuda's turn to die and that year, the bomber multiplied his attacks.
