Heiji and Kazuha visit Tokyo where the two part ways. A man is dead at the restaurant Kazuha is in, forcing Kogoro, Ran, Sera, Heiji, and Conan to investigate.

The witness is Andre Camel who explains the victim's last words were a confession to a poisoning. Heiji reveals the victim was speaking in a Kansai dialect and the victim's actual words were referring to an unknown culprit as the poisoner. Realizing the culprit is still in the restaurant, the police narrow down the suspects to three people without their alibis. After Heiji is unable to trick the culprits into revealing their Kansai dialect, Conan arranges the three culprits to drink salty soup.

'''Toru Amakasu''' is revealed to be the culprit after exclaiming the soup to be "karai" (辛い?, lit. "spicy"), a (somewhat incorrectly used) Kansai equivalent for the Tokyo dialect's "shoppai" (塩っぱい?, lit. "salty"). Another factor is the suffix "-sa" used in the Kansai dialect to finish sentences, a habit which Amakasu has maintained during the investigation. And when Conan blatantly changes his dialect during the presentation of the facts, Amakasu bursts out and identifies Conan's speech as a bad usage of the Kansai dialect, proving that he is really from the Kansai region. The fact that Heiji wasn't able to sort him out as the culprit was due to the fact that, as a native Kansai speaker, he is too used to his dialect's special quirks to discern its more subtle differences from the Tokyo dialect.

In addition, while acting as a left-hander, Amakasu is really right-handed, as the arrangement of his dishes easily proves. He had used his right hand to administer the poison to his victim and did not want to end up his own victim as well, even after cleaning his hand with a wet napkin usually served along with ramen (which is the reason why he had ordered ramen while the police checked the crime scene).

As it turns out, Amakasu is responsible for murdering his firm's manager in order to rob money from his office some time earlier, and Shibamiya, who had introduced Amakasu, a childhood friend, to his manager for employment, attempted to persuade him to surrender to the police. Amakasu decided to silence him, so he lured Shibamiya to the restaurant toilet and poisoned him.

After Amakasu is arrested, Andre and Jodie Starling examine a photo of Sera while noting their familiarity with her face, and to the surprise of Jodie and Camel, Black easily identifies the tomboyish Sera as a girl. Meanwhile, Heiji reveals his purpose of the visit was to take them to the [[The Design of Poison and Mirage|house of deceased Kohei Wakamatsu]] after receiving a letter which challenges him to solve the murder.

In this one hour episode, some scenes are not from the manga version.
* In anime version, Kazuha scolded Heiji for making inconsiderate remarks about Camel "even if it's true", which Ran then told Kazuha that was also inconsiderate to say out loud too.
* In anime version, the culprit tried to escape but Ran and Kazuha took him down. Sera was impressed by Kazuha's skills.

== Trivia ==
* There are several abnormalities, events, and scenes in the case that are worth noting. There are three instances where Ran's behavior implies she knows Conan is Shinichi. The first is that she references how Heiji and Shinichi only faced off each other once, but lately have been solving cases together. The wording is what is being called into the spotlight, because there are only 3-4 cases that they even meet up in total, while her words indicate they have met many more times on several occasions. As Heiji has shown clear interest in being with Conan, and has been solving cases with him, this implies she knows Conan is Shinichi or else her wording would be different. The second is when Heiji starts asking about the female detective sniffing around about Kudo. Neither Ran nor Sera correct him, which is especially odd for Ran since she should have found that strange. Sera has only been asking about Conan, not Shinichi, so the lack of a correction throughout the whole case indicates she knows he was referring to Conan when he said Kudo. Finally, when Ran asks to talk to Shinichi over Conan's phone and gets seemingly disappointed that he already hung up. However, she could have just easily called him with her own phone right there since she knew he was available, yet doesn't. This implies she might have just been putting on an act.
* The bus at the beginning is the same from [[The Mysterious Passenger]].
* According to Conan, people of Tokyo don't call it "normal Tokyo lingo or dialect".
* Throughout the case, Heiji always has the brim of his hat on the back, which appears inconsistent with his behavior: when getting serious in a case, Heiji will turn the brim of his hat to the front.

After participating in the opening ceremony, [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]], [[Hiroshi Agasa|Professor Agasa]], [[Ran Mouri|Ran]], [[Ai Haibara|Haibara]], and the [[Detective Boys]] are enjoying the view from the observation deck of the 635-metre tall Bell Tree Tower. Suddenly, a bullet breaks through a window and strikes a man's chest, causing everyone to panic. Conan stays calm and, using [[Telescopic Lenses|the zoom]] function on his [[Criminal Tracking Glasses|tracking glasses]] to follow the path of the bullet to its source, spots the sniper. He and [[Masumi Sera]], who had been present at the Tower as part of an assignment to shadow the victim, pursue the fleeing culprit on [[Vehicles_in_Detective_Conan#Sera.27s_Yamaha_Artesia_XT400|Masumi's motorcycle]], but the chase takes a violent turn when the suspect uses a handgun and even hand grenades to take out his pursuers. Even the [[FBI]] get involved in the chase, but the culprit and the mysteries of the sniping end up vanishing into the ocean.

The investigation turns up a connection to the special United States Navy squadron, the [[wikipedia:_Navy_SEALS|Navy SEALS]] and other former US military officers working in Japan. However, the first sniping was just the beginning; as more people are shot, the citizens of Tokyo panic! What is the meaning of the rifle case and dice left behind? As his investigation progresses, Conan soon finds himself in the sniper's crosshairs, only to be saved by Masumi who intervenes and takes the bullet in his stead. And, in the background, [[Subaru Okiya]] begins to make his move...

The reason for the serial killings was that Waltz was jealous of Hunter's achievements, which belittled his own actions. Waltz set Hunter up so he wouldn't get the Silver Star. He even ordered Murphy to assassinate Hunter, but the bullet failed to kill him, although a fragment of it remained in Hunter's skull and damaged his optical nerves, severely impairing him. Yoshino eventually discovered the deception, but Waltz destroyed the evidence before it could be used in court, driving Hunter into conceiving his revenge plan. The five sniping positions used for the murders, if viewed from ground level, combine to form a pentagon, which marks the five points of a Silver Star.

After participating in the opening ceremony, [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]], [[Hiroshi Agasa|Professor Agasa]], [[Ran Mouri|Ran]], [[Ai Haibara|Haibara]], and the [[Detective Boys]] are enjoying the view from the observation deck of the 635-metre tall Bell Tree Tower. Suddenly, a bullet breaks through a window and strikes a man's chest, causing everyone to panic. Conan stays calm and, using [[Telescopic Lenses|the zoom]] function on his [[Criminal Tracking Glasses|tracking glasses]] to follow the path of the bullet to its source, spots the sniper. He and [[Masumi Sera]], who had been present at the Tower as part of an assignment to shadow the victim, pursue the fleeing culprit on [[Vehicles_in_Detective_Conan#Sera.27s_Yamaha_Artesia_XT400|Masumi's motorcycle]], but the chase takes a violent turn when the suspect uses a handgun and even hand grenades to take out his pursuers. Even the [[FBI]] get involved in the chase, but the culprit and the mysteries of the sniping end up vanishing into the ocean.

The investigation turns up a connection to the special United States Navy squadron, the [[wikipedia:_Navy_SEALS|Navy SEALS]] and other former US military officers working in Japan. However, the first sniping was just the beginning; as more people are shot, the citizens of Tokyo panic! What is the meaning of the rifle case and dice left behind? As his investigation progresses, Conan soon finds himself in the sniper's crosshairs, only to be saved by Masumi who intervenes and takes the bullet in his stead. The reason for the serial killings was that Waltz was jealous of Hunter's achievements, which belittled his own actions. Waltz set Hunter up so he wouldn't get the Silver Star. He even ordered Murphy to assassinate Hunter, but the bullet failed to kill him, although a fragment of it remained in Hunter's skull and damaged his optical nerves, severely impairing him. Yoshino eventually discovered the deception, but Waltz destroyed the evidence before it could be used in court, driving Hunter into conceiving his revenge plan. The five sniping positions used for the murders, if viewed from ground level, combine to form a pentagon, which marks the five points of a Silver Star.

After participating in the opening ceremony, [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]], [[Hiroshi Agasa|Professor Agasa]], [[Ran Mouri|Ran]], [[Ai Haibara|Haibara]], and the [[Detective Boys]] are enjoying the view from the observation deck of the 635-metre tall Bell Tree Tower. Suddenly, a bullet breaks through a window and strikes a man's chest, causing everyone to panic. Conan stays calm and, using [[Telescopic Lenses|the zoom]] function on his [[Criminal Tracking Glasses|tracking glasses]] to follow the path of the bullet to its source, spots the sniper. He and [[Masumi Sera]], who had been present at the Tower as part of an assignment to shadow the victim, pursue the fleeing culprit on [[Vehicles_in_Detective_Conan#Sera.27s_Yamaha_Artesia_XT400|Masumi's motorcycle]], but the chase takes a violent turn when the suspect uses a handgun and even hand grenades to take out his pursuers. Even the [[FBI]] get involved in the chase, but the culprit and the mysteries of the sniping end up vanishing into the ocean.

The investigation turns up a connection to the special United States Navy squadron, the [[wikipedia:_Navy_SEALS|Navy SEALS]] and other former US military officers working in Japan. However, the first sniping was just the beginning; as more people are shot, the citizens of Tokyo panic! What is the meaning of the rifle case and dice left behind? As his investigation progresses, Conan soon finds himself in the sniper's crosshairs, only to be saved by Masumi who intervenes and takes the bullet in his stead. The reason for the serial killings was that Waltz was jealous of Hunter's achievements, which belittled his own actions. Waltz set Hunter up so he wouldn't get the Silver Star. He even ordered Murphy to assassinate Hunter, but the bullet failed to kill him, although a fragment of it remained in Hunter's skull and damaged his optical nerves, severely impairing him. Yoshino eventually discovered the deception, but Waltz destroyed the evidence before it could be used in court, driving Hunter into conceiving his revenge plan. The five sniping positions used for the murders, if viewed from ground level, combine to form a pentagon, which marks the five points of a Silver Star.

<spoiler>The sniper/culprit is '''Kevin Yoshino''', while the entire murder plan was created by his master '''Timothy Hunter'''. Kevin became Hunter's student and helped him carry out the plan because he wanted to repay Hunter for saving his life during their war operations in the Middle East.

The reason for the serial killings was that Waltz was jealous of Hunter's achievements, which belittled his own actions. Waltz set Hunter up so he wouldn't get the Silver Star. He even ordered Murphy to assassinate Hunter, but the bullet failed to kill him, although a fragment of it remained in Hunter's skull and damaged his optical nerves, severely impairing him. Yoshino eventually discovered the deception, but Waltz destroyed the evidence before it could be used in court, driving Hunter into conceiving his revenge plan. The five sniping positions used for the murders, if viewed from ground level, combine to form a pentagon, which marks the five points of a Silver Star.
