== Background ==

Of course, while Akemi lived a normal life, Haibara was sent to America as a small child to go to school and was groomed to finish her parents' research <ref> File 384-386 Volume 38 File 2-4</ref>. She was born to an English mother, Elena Miyano, and a Japanese father, Atsushi Miyano. Both of whom were members of the organization, and deceased. A prodigy, she was sent to the United States for education at a very young age, then later came back to Japan to finish her parents' secret project for the organization. By the age of thirteen she was working as a scientist for the Black Organization.<ref>Akai started infiltrating the Black Organization five years ago. He did so by becoming Akemi’s girlfriend in order to get close to Shiho and use her influence to get in. (Manga Volume 58, File 2, pg 9: "Akai's Past") According to the FBI’s description, Shiho was “a scientist for them” at the time. Furthermore this took place in Japan since everyone was speaking Japanese, Akemi lived in Japan, and the FBI bust two years prior to the current timeline was in Japan (607 pg 8). Shiho was about 18 years old when she developed the experimental test compound [[APTX 4869]]. She discovered that it could be used as a poison to kill without leaving any traces of itself in a body. While researching its effects, Shiho noticed that a rare few of her lab mice had become younger after being given the drug instead of dying. Meanwhile, the Black Organization started using APTX 4869 to commit untraceable murders. Unaware of the drug's rare side effect when they used it on [[Shinichi Kudo]], the Black Organization ordered a search for him because his body had not been found. Shiho searched Shinichi's house twice after he had been shrunk to confirm his death for the Black Organization. She began to suspect Shinichi's transformation after she searched his house for a second time and found that his clothes from primary school were missing. Shiho then confirmed him as deceased so the organization would not look into the matter further and kill him after all.

With no other way out, she took a pill of APTX 4869 to commit suicide, but instead shrunk into a seven or eight year old girl. In her new smaller body, she escaped from the Black Organization and attempted to reach Shinichi's house, hoping he may be able to help her. As Ai Haibara, she acts older than she is supposed to be, which the Detective Boys refer to her as "cool". But despite her jaded demeanor, she has been kind and caring on occasion, though usually more to animals than people. She's a bit quiet, though this may be due to her caution to keep herself hidden from the Black Organization. She is sometimes cold and very analytical, but there are times where she softens her demeanor and reveals herself to be a true friend. Shiho is generally a loner and misses her older sister, Akemi, greatly (in the film ''Countdown to Heaven'', she would call her sister's old apartment just to hear her voice on the voicemail). Smart, stubborn, and with a somewhat twisted sense of humor, she tries to keep Conan from doing reckless things that may give away their identity, though often she is surprised by his actions that usually result in gaining the information he needs while also keeping their identities secret.

== Plot overview ==
=== Introduction of Ai Haibara ===
Conan's class receives a new student named Ai Haibara. She acts rather cold and reserved when the Detective Boys try to befriend her, and Genta notices she's looking at Conan suspiciously. She tells them where she lives but Conan fails to realize it's at Agasa's home.

After school, a boy named Toshiya asks the Detective Boys to find his missing brother. The Detective Boys along with Haibara investigate Toshiya's house and finds a painting of Natsume Sōseki. Toshiya reveals that before his brother disappeared, a woman, who had an interest in that portrait, approached Toshiya.

The Detective Boys search around town to ask whether anyone has seen the woman or Toshiya's brother. Conan notices that a man was using a counterfeit ¥1000 and realizes Toshiya's brother was actually kidnapped and forced to help create counterfeit bills. After following the man along with the clues Toshiya's brother left behind, they are able to apprehend the organized crime group and save Toshiya's brother.

On the way home, Haibara reveals to Conan that she's a girl named Shiho Miyano, former member of the Black Organization. She actualy betrayed the group and escaped with the use of the APTX 4869 which caused her to become a child. She reveals that she accidentally sent a floppy disk containing data on the Black Organization to her older sister...which is now in the possession of her sister's professor, Masami Hirota.

The suspects are Hirota's three students who visited that day. Conan reveals the culprit to be a man named Akira Shirakura; Shirakura after bludgeoning Hirota to death tied the answering machine cassette tape around the key to the room which rewound when a call was made and subsequently bringing the key into the room. As evidence, Conan reveals that Shirakura's fingerprints should be found on the tape.

Haibara breaks down and asks Conan why he could not save her sister, Akemi, from the Black Organization. Later that day, Haibara attempts to read the files off the disk only to have a virus delete all the data.

=== The first head to head battle arc ===
[[image:Sherry_shot_1.JPG|thumb|left|150px|Shiho shot by Gin.]]In Episode 176-178, Conan encounters Gin and Vodka again. Haibara is kidnapped and confined to a wine cellar, but turns into an adult after she drinks [[baijiu]]. Despite wearing glasses and janitor clothing, Gin and Vodka recognize her and shoot her repeatedly until Conan appears. He shoots Gin with his needle, but Gin doesn't fall asleep. He tells Haibara to jump into the chimmey, and Vodka shoots at him, but he gets away. Gin purposely shoots himself in the arm due to trying to stay awake. Inside, Pisco almost kills her, but Conan rescues her after Pisco accidentally causes a fire. Gin kills Pisco for failure before he's able to tell him the truth about Shiho Miyano. Worried that the organization is after her, Haibara decides to leave the city.

=== The Desperate Revival arc ===
During the Desperate Revival episodes, Conan finds out that Ran suspects him of being Shinichi, due to Ran knowing Conan's blood type (for a blood transfusion). While Conan is in the hospital contemplating about admitting his identity, Haibara enters at night and points a gun at his head, saying that the Black Organization has found Haibara out due to an unknown agent being present at the Pisco incident. Because of this, Professor Agasa is held hostage and, in exchange for his life and a chance to return to the Black Organization, Haibara is required to terminate all the links she had as a child. However, she pulls the trigger and a bunch of flowers come out, showing that the story was just an act. Still, she uses this story as her point; that both Haibara and Conan cannot reveal their identities no matter the situation.

During that night, Haibara explains her plan to disassociate Conan from Shinichi in Ran's eyes. She has Conan take a prototype antidote for the shrinking drug and then disguises herself as Conan. For the rest of the arc, Conan returns as Shinichi while Haibara is present as Conan, thus creating the illusion of Shinichi and Conan existing at the same time, disproving that the two are the same person.

At the end of the Desperate Revival arc, the antidote begins to run out and Shinichi runs into the bathroom, where Haibara knocks him out using the sleeping needle. She then switches Shinichi into Conan's clothes after the antidote runs out.

=== A new threat: Vermouth, and the carjacking incident ===
Aside from Gin and Vodka being the most recurring members, a female member introduced late into the series named Vermouth also starts to play a huge role in the series. She makes her first appearance in Episodes 176-178, but her talents aren't revealed until Episode 230. She is one of the few characters who knows who Conan really is, since she'd seen Shinichi in pictures or in person via Yukiko when Shinichi was originally seven. In one episode she is saved by Ran and Shinichi from falling through a fire escape (though they don't know it's her), and keeps his secret unknown from the rest possibly because of this. She disguises herself as two actresses, Chris Vineyard and Sharon Vineyard. It is noted several times in the series that she is a master of disguise, who trained with Shinichi's mother in the past under a famous magician, [[Toichi Kuroba]], before he died.


=== The second head to head battle, and revealed allegiances ===
[[Image:Episode_345_Screencap.jpg‎|thumb|right|180px|Encounter with Vermouth.]] In Episode 345, many identities are finally unveiled: Vermouth is revealed to be Dr. Araide, Chris Vineyard, [[Sharon Vineyard]], and the silver-haired serial killer in Shinichi's New York Case; Jodie Saintemillion is revealed to be an undercover FBI agent working towards capturing Vermouth, who killed her father when she was younger; Shuichi Akai is confirmed to be an FBI agent, and one with great skill too--enough to make the boss of the Black Organization believe that he is their ''Silver Bullet.'' Near the end of the episode, it becomes clear that Vermouth's purpose was to seek and eliminate Sherry, but her attempts are thwarted by several people: Shinichi/Conan, Jodie Saintemillion, Shuichi Akai, and even Ran. When she becomes cornered, she takes Conan hostage and drives away into a forest. There, she makes a call to her boss (still nameless), and to her surprise, Conan was recording the entire conversation. In order to preserve the organization's secrecy, she sprays sleeping gas in the car, putting both herself and Conan to sleep. She claims that this would be a duel--whoever wakes up first will win. Vermouth does indeed wake up first, but does not kill Conan. Instead, she just crushes his recording device. Ultimately, the only clue Conan gained from this whole ordeal is the ringtone that the boss uses; this is mentioned in Episode 425 as well, although its importance has not yet been revealed.

In Episode 394, Conan figures out the boss's number, but Haibara warns him not to call it because it is "[[Pandora's Box]]", Conan then thinks he can get Detective Takagi to figure out who the number belongs to. But then Haibara warns if he does, Detective Takagi will be killed.

Although Vermouth often comes off as evil and malicious, her allegiance is rather ambiguous. She chooses to protect both Conan/Shinichi and Ran, most likely because they let her live back in the New York Case when she was disguised as the silver-haired serial killer. At the end of the episode, she could have very well killed Shinichi, but instead she lets him live and even drapes her coat over his sleeping body so he wouldn't get cold. She even kept her promise with Shinichi to stop her attempt on killing Sherry/Shiho. For some reason, she seems to wish for the Black Organization to be taken down as well--for she believes that Shinichi Kudo is their true ''Silver Bullet.

As Conan and Haibara investigate a normal case, Haibara feels that an organization member is around. The organization member which she felt is implied to be one of the innocent suspects, [[Subaru Okiya]]. Conan invites Okiya to live in Kudo's house since Okiya's apartment was burnt. Okiya appears in other cases later on, including at the Haido mall where the rest of the Black Organization gathered to chase a rumored sighting of a [[Scar Akai|scarred Shuichi Akai]]. At the end of Episode 543 (Anime), Subaru Okiya can be seen drinking a bottle of Baker's Mark, which is a brand of Kentucky Bourbon.

Haibara is later targeted by a plot concocted by Vermouth and Bourbon aboard the Bell Tree Express Train.

Ai Haibara seems to have somewhat romantic feelings for [[Conan]]/[[Shinichi]], although she never truly admits to it. In the fourth movie, she says to Conan that she wished she could forget her memories about the Black Organization and the death of her sister and the pill, claiming that all she wants to be was a normal little girl and live together with Conan forever. But then as Conan was shocked by the words, Haibara immediately said she was lying. Indeed, it is a mystery just exactly what she feels for him, whether friend or otherwise. It could be said that, because of their almost equal level of intelligence, she finds it easier to talk to him. Of course, while Akemi lived a normal life, Haibara was sent to America as a small child to go to school and was groomed to finish her parents' research <ref> File 384-386 Volume 38 File 2-4</ref>. She was born to an English mother, Elena Miyano, and a Japanese father, Atsushi Miyano. Both of whom were members of the organization, and deceased. A prodigy, she was sent to the United States for education at a very young age, then later came back to Japan to finish her parents' secret project for the organization. By the age of thirteen she was working as a scientist for the Black Organization.<ref>Akai started infiltrating the Black Organization five years ago. He did so by becoming Akemi’s girlfriend in order to get close to Shiho and use her influence to get in. (Manga Volume 58, File 2, pg 9: "Akai's Past") According to the FBI’s description, Shiho was “a scientist for them” at the time. Furthermore this took place in Japan since everyone was speaking Japanese, Akemi lived in Japan, and the FBI bust two years prior to the current timeline was in Japan (607 pg 8). If Shiho is 18 now, she would be 13 at the time Akai started infiltrating the Black Organization and she was already a scientist for them at this point and high ranked.</ref> Her codename in the Black Organization is "Sherry", after the alcoholic drink.

Shiho was about 18 years old when she developed the experimental test compound [[APTX 4869]]. She discovered that it could be used as a poison to kill without leaving any traces of itself in a body. While researching its effects, Shiho noticed that a rare few of her lab mice had become younger after being given the drug instead of dying. Meanwhile, the Black Organization started using APTX 4869 to commit untraceable murders. Unaware of the drug's rare side effect when they used it on [[Shinichi Kudo]], the Black Organization ordered a search for him because his body had not been found. Shiho searched Shinichi's house twice after he had been shrunk to confirm his death for the Black Organization. She began to suspect Shinichi's transformation after she searched his house for a second time and found that his clothes from primary school were missing. Shiho then confirmed him as deceased so the organization would not look into the matter further and kill him after all.

== Plot overview ==
=== Introduction of Ai Haibara ===
Conan's class receives a new student named Ai Haibara. She acts rather cold and reserved when the Detective Boys try to befriend her, and Genta notices she's looking at Conan suspiciously. She tells them where she lives but Conan fails to realize it's at Agasa's home.

After school, a boy named Toshiya asks the Detective Boys to find his missing brother. The Detective Boys along with Haibara investigate Toshiya's house and finds a painting of Natsume Sōseki. Toshiya reveals that before his brother disappeared, a woman, who had an interest in that portrait, approached Toshiya.

The Detective Boys search around town to ask whether anyone has seen the woman or Toshiya's brother. Conan notices that a man was using a counterfeit ¥1000 and realizes Toshiya's brother was actually kidnapped and forced to help create counterfeit bills. After following the man along with the clues Toshiya's brother left behind, they are able to apprehend the organized crime group and save Toshiya's brother.

On the way home, Haibara reveals to Conan that she's a girl named Shiho Miyano, former member of the Black Organization. She actualy betrayed the group and escaped with the use of the APTX 4869 which caused her to become a child. She reveals that she accidentally sent a floppy disk containing data on the Black Organization to her older sister...which is now in the possession of her sister's professor, Masami Hirota.

The suspects are Hirota's three students who visited that day. Conan reveals the culprit to be a man named Akira Shirakura; Shirakura after bludgeoning Hirota to death tied the answering machine cassette tape around the key to the room which rewound when a call was made and subsequently bringing the key into the room. As evidence, Conan reveals that Shirakura's fingerprints should be found on the tape.

Haibara breaks down and asks Conan why he could not save her sister, Akemi, from the Black Organization. Later that day, Haibara attempts to read the files off the disk only to have a virus delete all the data.

=== The first head to head battle arc ===

Haibara is kidnapped and confined to a wine cellar, but turns into an adult after she drinks [[baijiu]]. Despite wearing glasses and janitor clothing, Gin and Vodka recognize her and shoot her repeatedly until Conan appears. He shoots Gin with his needle, but Gin doesn't fall asleep. He tells Haibara to jump into the chimmey, and Vodka shoots at him, but he gets away. Gin purposely shoots himself in the arm due to trying to stay awake. Inside, Pisco almost kills her, but Conan rescues her after Pisco accidentally causes a fire. Gin kills Pisco for failure before he's able to tell him the truth about Shiho Miyano. Worried that the organization is after her, Haibara decides to leave the city.

=== The Desperate Revival arc ===
During the Desperate Revival episodes, Conan finds out that Ran suspects him of being Shinichi, due to Ran knowing Conan's blood type (for a blood transfusion). While Conan is in the hospital contemplating about admitting his identity, Haibara enters at night and points a gun at his head, saying that the Black Organization has found Haibara out due to an unknown agent being present at the Pisco incident. Because of this, Professor Agasa is held hostage and, in exchange for his life and a chance to return to the Black Organization, Haibara is required to terminate all the links she had as a child. However, she pulls the trigger and a bunch of flowers come out, showing that the story was just an act. Still, she uses this story as her point; that both Haibara and Conan cannot reveal their identities no matter the situation.

During that night, Haibara explains her plan to disassociate Conan from Shinichi in Ran's eyes. She has Conan take a prototype antidote for the shrinking drug and then disguises herself as Conan. For the rest of the arc, Conan returns as Shinichi while Haibara is present as Conan, thus creating the illusion of Shinichi and Conan existing at the same time, disproving that the two are the same person.

At the end of the Desperate Revival arc, the antidote begins to run out and Shinichi runs into the bathroom, where Haibara knocks him out using the sleeping needle. She then switches Shinichi into Conan's clothes after the antidote runs out.

=== A new threat: Vermouth, and the carjacking incident ===
Aside from Gin and Vodka being the most recurring members, a female member introduced late into the series named Vermouth also starts to play a huge role in the series. She makes her first appearance in Episodes 176-178, but her talents aren't revealed until Episode 230. She is one of the few characters who knows who Conan really is, since she'd seen Shinichi in pictures or in person via Yukiko when Shinichi was originally seven. In one episode she is saved by Ran and Shinichi from falling through a fire escape (though they don't know it's her), and keeps his secret unknown from the rest possibly because of this. She disguises herself as two actresses, Chris Vineyard and Sharon Vineyard. It is noted several times in the series that she is a master of disguise, who trained with Shinichi's mother in the past under a famous magician, [[Toichi Kuroba]], before he died.


=== The second head to head battle, and revealed allegiances ===
[[Image:Episode_345_Screencap.jpg‎|thumb|right|180px|Encounter with Vermouth.]] In Episode 345, many identities are finally unveiled: Vermouth is revealed to be Dr. Araide, Chris Vineyard, [[Sharon Vineyard]], and the silver-haired serial killer in Shinichi's New York Case; Jodie Saintemillion is revealed to be an undercover FBI agent working towards capturing Vermouth, who killed her father when she was younger; Shuichi Akai is confirmed to be an FBI agent, and one with great skill too--enough to make the boss of the Black Organization believe that he is their ''Silver Bullet.'' Near the end of the episode, it becomes clear that Vermouth's purpose was to seek and eliminate Sherry, but her attempts are thwarted by several people: Shinichi/Conan, Jodie Saintemillion, Shuichi Akai, and even Ran. When she becomes cornered, she takes Conan hostage and drives away into a forest. There, she makes a call to her boss (still nameless), and to her surprise, Conan was recording the entire conversation. In order to preserve the organization's secrecy, she sprays sleeping gas in the car, putting both herself and Conan to sleep. She claims that this would be a duel--whoever wakes up first will win. Vermouth does indeed wake up first, but does not kill Conan. Instead, she just crushes his recording device. Ultimately, the only clue Conan gained from this whole ordeal is the ringtone that the boss uses; this is mentioned in Episode 425 as well, although its importance has not yet been revealed.

In Episode 394, Conan figures out the boss's number, but Haibara warns him not to call it because it is "[[Pandora's Box]]", Conan then thinks he can get Detective Takagi to figure out who the number belongs to. But then Haibara warns if he does, Detective Takagi will be killed.

Although Vermouth often comes off as evil and malicious, her allegiance is rather ambiguous. She chooses to protect both Conan/Shinichi and Ran, most likely because they let her live back in the New York Case when she was disguised as the silver-haired serial killer. At the end of the episode, she could have very well killed Shinichi, but instead she lets him live and even drapes her coat over his sleeping body so he wouldn't get cold. She even kept her promise with Shinichi to stop her attempt on killing Sherry/Shiho. For some reason, she seems to wish for the Black Organization to be taken down as well--for she believes that Shinichi Kudo is their true ''Silver Bullet.

As Conan and Haibara investigate a normal case, Haibara feels that an organization member is around. The organization member which she felt is implied to be one of the innocent suspects, [[Subaru Okiya]]. Conan invites Okiya to live in Kudo's house since Okiya's apartment was burnt. Okiya appears in other cases later on, including at the Haido mall where the rest of the Black Organization gathered to chase a rumored sighting of a [[Scar Akai|scarred Shuichi Akai]]. At the end of Episode 543 (Anime), Subaru Okiya can be seen drinking a bottle of Baker's Mark, which is a brand of Kentucky Bourbon.

Haibara is later targeted by a plot concocted by Vermouth and Bourbon aboard the Bell Tree Express Train.

Ai Haibara seems to have somewhat romantic feelings for [[Conan]]/[[Shinichi]], although she never truly admits to it. In the fourth movie, she says to Conan that she wished she could forget her memories about the Black Organization and the death of her sister and the pill, claiming that all she wants to be was a normal little girl and live together with Conan forever. But then as Conan was shocked by the words, Haibara immediately said she was lying. Indeed, it is a mystery just exactly what she feels for him, whether friend or otherwise. It could be said that, because of their almost equal level of intelligence, she finds it easier to talk to him. Also, he is one of the few people in front of whom she has shown any signs of weakness, such as breaking down.

The relationship between Haibara and [[Hiroshi Agasa|Professor Agasa]] is rather unusual, if not humorous. Despite what their actual ages are, Haibara often times acts more like a mother to the professor, constantly reminding him to watch what he eats. On several occassions, she has removed fattening foods from his reach<ref name=Depths>[[Strategy Above the Depths|Movie 9: Strategy Above the Depths]]</ref>, and is attempting to help get him into better shape. There's also been instances where she'll automatically step in front of Agasa in cases of danger.<ref name=Eyes>[[Captured in Her Eyes|Movie 4: Captured in Her Eyes]]</ref> Out of all the people she's met, Haibara seems most comfortable about acting herself with Professor Agasa; which might be attributed to the fact that he was the one who found her after she escaped the Black Organization, and took her in.

There are instances where Haibara will caution Conan from actions that involve [[Ran Mouri|Ran]], though it's assumed this is due merely to the fact that she wants to keep her identity hidden. At one point, she was very cold and distant towards Ran, just like she was to most other people. == Background ==

Of course, while Akemi lived a normal life, Haibara was sent to America as a small child to go to school and was groomed to finish her parents' research <ref> File 384-386 Volume 38 File 2-4</ref>. She was born to an English mother, Elena Miyano, and a Japanese father, Atsushi Miyano. Both of whom were members of the organization, and deceased. A prodigy, she was sent to the United States for education at a very young age, then later came back to Japan to finish her parents' secret project for the organization. By the age of thirteen she was working as a scientist for the Black Organization.<ref>Akai started infiltrating the Black Organization five years ago. He did so by becoming Akemi’s girlfriend in order to get close to Shiho and use her influence to get in. (Manga Volume 58, File 2, pg 9: "Akai's Past") According to the FBI’s description, Shiho was “a scientist for them” at the time. Furthermore this took place in Japan since everyone was speaking Japanese, Akemi lived in Japan, and the FBI bust two years prior to the current timeline was in Japan (607 pg 8). Shiho was about 18 years old when she developed the experimental test compound [[APTX 4869]]. She discovered that it could be used as a poison to kill without leaving any traces of itself in a body. While researching its effects, Shiho noticed that a rare few of her lab mice had become younger after being given the drug instead of dying. Meanwhile, the Black Organization started using APTX 4869 to commit untraceable murders. Unaware of the drug's rare side effect when they used it on [[Shinichi Kudo]], the Black Organization ordered a search for him because his body had not been found. Shiho searched Shinichi's house twice after he had been shrunk to confirm his death for the Black Organization. She began to suspect Shinichi's transformation after she searched his house for a second time and found that his clothes from primary school were missing. Shiho then confirmed him as deceased so the organization would not look into the matter further and kill him after all.

As Ai Haibara, she acts older than she is supposed to be, which the Detective Boys refer to her as "cool". But despite her jaded demeanor, she has been kind and caring on occasion, though usually more to animals than people. She's a bit quiet, though this may be due to her caution to keep herself hidden from the Black Organization. She is sometimes cold and very analytical, but there are times where she softens her demeanor and reveals herself to be a true friend. Shiho is generally a loner and misses her older sister, Akemi, greatly (in the film ''Countdown to Heaven'', she would call her sister's old apartment just to hear her voice on the voicemail). Smart, stubborn, and with a somewhat twisted sense of humor, she tries to keep Conan from doing reckless things that may give away their identity, though often she is surprised by his actions that usually result in gaining the information he needs while also keeping their identities secret.

== Plot overview ==
=== Introduction of Ai Haibara ===
Conan's class receives a new student named Ai Haibara. She acts rather cold and reserved when the Detective Boys try to befriend her, and Genta notices she's looking at Conan suspiciously. She tells them where she lives but Conan fails to realize it's at Agasa's home.

After school, a boy named Toshiya asks the Detective Boys to find his missing brother. The Detective Boys along with Haibara investigate Toshiya's house and finds a painting of Natsume Sōseki. Toshiya reveals that before his brother disappeared, a woman, who had an interest in that portrait, approached Toshiya.

The Detective Boys search around town to ask whether anyone has seen the woman or Toshiya's brother. Conan notices that a man was using a counterfeit ¥1000 and realizes Toshiya's brother was actually kidnapped and forced to help create counterfeit bills. After following the man along with the clues Toshiya's brother left behind, they are able to apprehend the organized crime group and save Toshiya's brother.

On the way home, Haibara reveals to Conan that she's a girl named Shiho Miyano, former member of the Black Organization. She actualy betrayed the group and escaped with the use of the APTX 4869 which caused her to become a child. She reveals that she accidentally sent a floppy disk containing data on the Black Organization to her older sister...which is now in the possession of her sister's professor, Masami Hirota.

The suspects are Hirota's three students who visited that day. Conan reveals the culprit to be a man named Akira Shirakura; Shirakura after bludgeoning Hirota to death tied the answering machine cassette tape around the key to the room which rewound when a call was made and subsequently bringing the key into the room. As evidence, Conan reveals that Shirakura's fingerprints should be found on the tape.

Haibara breaks down and asks Conan why he could not save her sister, Akemi, from the Black Organization. Later that day, Haibara attempts to read the files off the disk only to have a virus delete all the data.

=== The first head to head battle arc ===
[[image:Sherry_shot_1.JPG|thumb|left|150px|Shiho shot by Gin.]]In Episode 176-178, Conan encounters Gin and Vodka again. Haibara is kidnapped and confined to a wine cellar, but turns into an adult after she drinks [[baijiu]]. Despite wearing glasses and janitor clothing, Gin and Vodka recognize her and shoot her repeatedly until Conan appears. He shoots Gin with his needle, but Gin doesn't fall asleep. He tells Haibara to jump into the chimmey, and Vodka shoots at him, but he gets away. Gin purposely shoots himself in the arm due to trying to stay awake. Inside, Pisco almost kills her, but Conan rescues her after Pisco accidentally causes a fire. Gin kills Pisco for failure before he's able to tell him the truth about Shiho Miyano. Worried that the organization is after her, Haibara decides to leave the city.

=== The Desperate Revival arc ===
During the Desperate Revival episodes, Conan finds out that Ran suspects him of being Shinichi, due to Ran knowing Conan's blood type (for a blood transfusion). While Conan is in the hospital contemplating about admitting his identity, Haibara enters at night and points a gun at his head, saying that the Black Organization has found Haibara out due to an unknown agent being present at the Pisco incident. Because of this, Professor Agasa is held hostage and, in exchange for his life and a chance to return to the Black Organization, Haibara is required to terminate all the links she had as a child. However, she pulls the trigger and a bunch of flowers come out, showing that the story was just an act. Still, she uses this story as her point; that both Haibara and Conan cannot reveal their identities no matter the situation.

During that night, Haibara explains her plan to disassociate Conan from Shinichi in Ran's eyes. She has Conan take a prototype antidote for the shrinking drug and then disguises herself as Conan. For the rest of the arc, Conan returns as Shinichi while Haibara is present as Conan, thus creating the illusion of Shinichi and Conan existing at the same time, disproving that the two are the same person.

At the end of the Desperate Revival arc, the antidote begins to run out and Shinichi runs into the bathroom, where Haibara knocks him out using the sleeping needle. She then switches Shinichi into Conan's clothes after the antidote runs out.

=== A new threat: Vermouth, and the carjacking incident ===
Aside from Gin and Vodka being the most recurring members, a female member introduced late into the series named Vermouth also starts to play a huge role in the series. She makes her first appearance in Episodes 176-178, but her talents aren't revealed until Episode 230. She is one of the few characters who knows who Conan really is, since she'd seen Shinichi in pictures or in person via Yukiko when Shinichi was originally seven. In one episode she is saved by Ran and Shinichi from falling through a fire escape (though they don't know it's her), and keeps his secret unknown from the rest possibly because of this. She disguises herself as two actresses, Chris Vineyard and Sharon Vineyard. It is noted several times in the series that she is a master of disguise, who trained with Shinichi's mother in the past under a famous magician, [[Toichi Kuroba]], before he died.


=== The second head to head battle, and revealed allegiances ===
[[Image:Episode_345_Screencap.jpg‎|thumb|right|180px|Encounter with Vermouth.]] In Episode 345, many identities are finally unveiled: Vermouth is revealed to be Dr. Araide, Chris Vineyard, [[Sharon Vineyard]], and the silver-haired serial killer in Shinichi's New York Case; Jodie Saintemillion is revealed to be an undercover FBI agent working towards capturing Vermouth, who killed her father when she was younger; Shuichi Akai is confirmed to be an FBI agent, and one with great skill too--enough to make the boss of the Black Organization believe that he is their ''Silver Bullet.'' Near the end of the episode, it becomes clear that Vermouth's purpose was to seek and eliminate Sherry, but her attempts are thwarted by several people: Shinichi/Conan, Jodie Saintemillion, Shuichi Akai, and even Ran. When she becomes cornered, she takes Conan hostage and drives away into a forest. There, she makes a call to her boss (still nameless), and to her surprise, Conan was recording the entire conversation. In order to preserve the organization's secrecy, she sprays sleeping gas in the car, putting both herself and Conan to sleep. She claims that this would be a duel--whoever wakes up first will win. Vermouth does indeed wake up first, but does not kill Conan. Instead, she just crushes his recording device. Ultimately, the only clue Conan gained from this whole ordeal is the ringtone that the boss uses; this is mentioned in Episode 425 as well, although its importance has not yet been revealed.

In Episode 394, Conan figures out the boss's number, but Haibara warns him not to call it because it is "[[Pandora's Box]]", Conan then thinks he can get Detective Takagi to figure out who the number belongs to. But then Haibara warns if he does, Detective Takagi will be killed.

Although Vermouth often comes off as evil and malicious, her allegiance is rather ambiguous. She chooses to protect both Conan/Shinichi and Ran, most likely because they let her live back in the New York Case when she was disguised as the silver-haired serial killer. At the end of the episode, she could have very well killed Shinichi, but instead she lets him live and even drapes her coat over his sleeping body so he wouldn't get cold. She even kept her promise with Shinichi to stop her attempt on killing Sherry/Shiho. For some reason, she seems to wish for the Black Organization to be taken down as well--for she believes that Shinichi Kudo is their true ''Silver Bullet.

As Conan and Haibara investigate a normal case, Haibara feels that an organization member is around. The organization member which she felt is implied to be one of the innocent suspects, [[Subaru Okiya]]. Conan invites Okiya to live in Kudo's house since Okiya's apartment was burnt. In the fourth movie, she says to Conan that she wished she could forget her memories about the Black Organization and the death of her sister and the pill, claiming that all she wants to be was a normal little girl and live together with Conan forever. But then as Conan was shocked by the words, Haibara immediately said she was lying. Indeed, it is a mystery just exactly what she feels for him, whether friend or otherwise. It could be said that, because of their almost equal level of intelligence, she finds it easier to talk to him. Conan has had to use Sonoko sometimes, when he needs to do a deduction show. Conan and Ran visit Sonoko's mountain villa to see the autumn leaves and meet up with some old friends. On the way to the front they see a strange bandaged man in a dark cloak crossing the bridge. When they see him he turns around, shocking them with his face and eye contact as he quickly makes a retreat around the side of the house. Everything seems fine as Ran tries to find her room, accidentally walking in on the boys of the house. When everyone is asked about the bandaged man he is brushed off as possibly a crazy man with nothing better to do. However he is taken far more seriously when later one of the girls is seen being carried off by him from the windows, the boys give chase and find her dismembered body in the woods.

He had previously attacked Ran in the woods earlier, but ran off when Conan gave chase. Everyone panics and decides that it's best to go to bed for the night, when he strikes again, this time trying to kill Ran in her sleep. Conan kicks Ran out of the way, using his bow-tie to wake her up, she freezes up as Conan grabs for him, but he is thrown against the bed, twisting his ankle. The bandaged man quickly makes a hasty retreat, leaving Conan to wonder why he is targeting Ran.
Everyone decides to stay up for the night and keep together to throw off the murderous man in bandages. Conan suspects that Ran saw something that made her a target for the bandaged man, and the culprit is one of the people staying there. The rush for remembrance is on as Conan desperately tries to solve the mystery before the bandaged man strikes again.

After the investigation, Conan solve the case. Kogoro isn't there to be put to sleep, so he decides to solve the case by Ran. But when he shoots the anesthetic needle, Sonoko appears and she falls asleep. Conan reveals, by Sonoko, the killer is Ryoichi Takahashi.
Sonoko is very proud, she thinks she settled the case. She was in love with Masaru Ohta, but already isn't.
Currently, Conan often uses Sonoko for solving cases.

At the end of the case, Conan asks Ran if she meets Shiro Wakaoji, a young man who was in the coffee shop. She says no, but Shiro is interested by Ran. When he begin to flirt with her, Sonoko arrives. She was his autentic date! Sonoko, very angry, hits him and goes out from there.

Sonoko, Ran, and Conan go to Izu because of Sonoko's schemes to get a man. At the beach, Sonoko takes a picture of Ran fixing her bathing suit and threatens to send the picture to Shinichi. Sonoko is upset about her lack of love life. However, a college student approaches the girls and asks Sonoko to lunch. He appears to be romantically interested and asks Sonoko to dinner as well. They agree to meet at their lodgings later that day. The college student tells the group a story about a brunette that was murdered a year ago and now haunts the restaurant he wants to dine at. The group then finds out that another brunette was murdered in the woods recently in the same manner as the brunette from a year ago.

The group goes to the crime scene and meet Sango Yokomizo who cautions them to stay safe. Sonoko, Ran, and Conan are staying at a cheap Ryokan because Sonoko doesn't want to scare men away by staying at an expensive luxury hotel. In the evening, the three of them wait for the college student to pick them up in his car. Sonoko realizes that she forgot something in her room and goes back up to get it. Here she discovers a suspicious figure searching her bags. The figure attacks her and is about to stab her with a knife when Ran and Conan, worried about the time Sonoko is taking, come to find her.

Sonoko is saved and the figure escapes through the window. The stoic, and somewhat unfriendly, high school student (Makoto Kyogoku) that is working at the Ryokan moves the group to another room. Ran thinks she has seen this person somewhere before but cannot remember where. The college student shows up muddy and wet and Conan suspects him of attacking Sonoko. Sonoko says she bit the attacker's bicep in her struggle and Conan makes the college student take off his shirt. However, the college student does not have a bite mark on his arm. Makoto has a bandaged bicep and falls under suspicion but Sonoko says he wasn't the attacker since the attacker was hairy. The college student, Sonoko, Ran, and Conan decide to have dinner at the Ryokan because the college student says his car broke down. Conan speculates that Sonoko's attacker was looking for the photographs she was taking during the trip, but cannot figure out why. Conan does not think there are any incriminating photos. Perhaps the murderer overheard Sonoko talking about the photographs and misunderstood. This case is still full of mysteries and Conan cannot figure out why Sonoko was attacked.

Later, Michiwaki (the student), Ran and Conan go to eat to a restaurant, and Sonoko is in Michiwaki's car, sleepy. Suddenly, the car gets on and Sonoko is, again, near the death.
When they go to the police station, Sonoko and Michiwaki enter into the forest. There, Michiwaki tries to kill Sonko: he is the serial killer!
Finally, when Sonoko thinks she is going to death, Makoto appears and save her. Michiwaki is arrested and Makoto says to Sonoko he is in love whit her, but he must goes abroad.
Currently, Sonoko is involved with Makoto.

===Jodie's Introduction (Manga: [[Volume 27#Arcade Murder Case|271-273]], Anime: [[The Battle Game Trap|226-227]])===
Sonoko, Ran, and Conan are at the arcade where they meet their High School English teacher, Jodie Saintemillion who is an avid gamer. Jodie introduces Ran to a virtual reality fighting game which uses mechanics to simulate a real fight. Ran loses to a gamer named Kengo Bito who taunts her in her lost. Bito plays the game again his rival, Takayasu Shimizu; The battle is projected on a large screen. Bito's avatar overwhelms Shimizu's but stops at the climax of the match. The people in the arcade realize Bito is dead and the police are called in.
The police investigate; after reviewing the security camera's footage, they limit the suspects down to four people, a middle aged man, an employee, Shimizu, and Jodie.

The autopsy reveals the poison to be Tetrodotoxin; a poison that causes instant paralysis and death soon after. Conan investigates and learns the method and the culprit who murdered Bito.
Conan tranquilizes Sonoko and impersonates her; declaring Shimizu to be the murderer. Conan reveals that Shimizu was the one playing Bito's avatar in order disguise the fact Bito was already dead. As for the weapon, Conan explains Shimizu hid a needle inside a cigarette, put gum around it, wrapped it around paper and had it stuck to the employee's shoes. As certain evidence, Conan reveals that a coin with Shimizu's fingerprints should be found in Bito's arcade machine. Shimizu confesses revealing Bito's gambling and debt caused his sister to develop Vitamin A deficiency and resulting in her blindness. As Sonoko, Ran, and Jodie leave the arcade, their discussion leads to Shinichi whom Jodie dubs as Cool Guy; She says goodbye whilst calling Conan Cool Guy and leaves. That night, Jodie calls an unknown person discussing how her target, the Rotten Apple has changed appearance.

===Girl Clubbing Case (Manga: [[Volume 28#Girl Clubbing Case|284-286]], Anime: [[Megure's Sealed Secret|217-218]])===
Ran and Sonoko are shopping for a sweater as Sonoko wants to buy for Makoto Kyogoku; Sonoko gets scolded by Ran when she learns that Sonoko wants to make it pass as if she had knitted the sweater for him. Sonoko arrives to the pasta shop right then and upon seeing the girls's pictures she identifies them as Ganguro, girls who change their looks drastically to look fashionable and exotic and as a way to rebel against Japanese society.
Sonoko calls Ran to ask where she is. She says she's in a parking lot and then she screams in terror because she has just found another victim. Said victim is a 20 year old girl named Tae Aizawa, who used to work at the same store: again, a very young woman with bleached hair, tanned skin, and wearing the special jewelry gifts. Unlike the others, however, Aizawa is actually dead.
After discussing some more details, Takagi returns and confirms the information already given. Conan and Ran see that Sonoko isn't with them; Ran mentions that Sonoko was supposed to go to the car and then to the restroom, and then Conan realizes that Sonoko was wearing platform boots... like all the victims. Ran calls Sonoko to her cellphone, and Sonoko says she's looking for a safe way out since the lights are out. She then gets scared since it looks like she's being followed, and as she turns, the culprit is right in front of her and she starts screaming.

Sonoko manages to avoid the culprit's pipe and throws her phone at him, revealing his face. She tries running downstairs, with the man being horrified since she saw him clearly. Conan says that the killer saw Sonoko with Mouri's keys and mistook her for the driver, hence why he's chasing her now. Sonoko's phone lands near a purikura machine located near a restaurant in the tenth floor, so they deduce Sonoko and the killer are not too far away from it. Megure takes active part in commanding the police, and both Matsumoto and Mouri notice how pumped up he is.
Sonoko runs aimlessly in the tenth floor, and when she's about to reach the gates she trips over her boots and falls to the ground. Ran and the police find her phone on the stairs and deduce she's in the apartment store as no one has seen her in the restaurants. Meanwhile, the maddened killer starts ranting about how all the fashionable girls are bitches in sheep's clothing who should be all killed. Sonoko screams again and this time Ran, Conan, Megure and Co. hear her; they also hear the sound of several things falling, Go stones among them, which allow them to see she's now on the fourth floor (the only one with such arrangments).
Sonoko again dodges the pipe, as the culprit rants about how he only wanted to teach her a lesson, but after seeing his face, he had to kill her. Cornered again, Sonoko cowers as he tries to hit her directly... and then Megure shows up. He takes the hit for her and gets struck in the head, but the blow is softened by his hat.
At the end, Ran and Sonoko are moved to tears, thinking Megure's girlfriend died.

===Murderous Pottery Class (Manga: [[Volume 30#Pottery Class Case|305-307]], Anime: [[The Murderous Pottery Class|228-229]])===

Sonoko tells Ran she is attending pottery classes to make a gift to Makoto, a big vessel. Ran decides to join too. One day, Conan follows the girls to the pottery class.
Ran is making an earthel vessel and Sonoko wants to see that, but Ran doesn't want. Joking, the vessel fell. All the class heard a noise, and Sonoko thins Ran's vessel is broken. But no, Ran has got the vessel in her hand.
Conan, Ran, and all the class go to find the origin of the noise, and Sonoko attempts to uncover Ran's vessel. Ran tells her if she do it, their friendship will be broken.
Motoo Mino is killed and they try to discover the truth.
Suddenly, Conan find out the truth: the master murdered Motoo! The little detective uses 'Deduction Queen Sonoko' to solve it.

At the end, she is talking with Ran and Conan, and they see a photo that Makoto send to Sonoko. In the photo, he is with friends and he put flowers in Sonoko's vessel. She is sad because he thought it was a vase.

[[Kogoro Mouri]] receives an invitation to a Halloween cruise; the Halloween cruise is famous for hiring guests to star in a horror film. At the beginning, Sonoko is making-up Kogoro as a monster, specifically as a vampire.
He can bring a friend, and Sonoko wants to go with him because Ran doesn't want, she is afraid by zombies, witches and monsters in general.
The day of the party, she goes with Kogoro there, wearing a witch costume. When they are in a taxi, the taxi driver was disguised as a monster too and scared them.
During the cruise, the party members are divided into groups with team devil consisting of Kogoro, Sonoko, and people disguised as a werewolf, a mummy, a medusa and an invisible man. Sonoko and Kogoro meet Medusa and they talk a lot with her.

During the party, the host is shot by a crossbow, attached to the arrow is a card from team devil.
First, Sonoko thinks, as Kogoro, the mummy is the culprit, because he is the only who hasn't got the card. When Kogoro calls to his house for explain the situation to [[Ran]] and nobody picks up the phone, she says Ran could be having a shower.
Later, when the invisible man gets rid of his bands and is [[Shinichi Kudo]], she is very surprised. Kudo explains the culprit is the werewolf. The murderer says someone called '[[Vermouth]]' forced him to kill the captain.
After, she discovers, at the same time than Kogoro and the others, that the 'invisible man' Shinichi was a faker, and he really is [[Heiji Hattori]].

Sonoko's disguise is entirely black, with a large hat with a stripe in the center, black too. The dress reaches to the thighs, with peak shape. She also wears high boots and long gloves, both black. She carries a broom too.
She looks very happy for go to the party, disguise as a "sexy" witch and search cute and handsome monsters.
We don't know if Sonoko knows Medusa is really [[Yukiko Kudo]].

===Jodie's Truth (Manga: [[Volume 42#Murderer's Car Case|435]], Anime: [[Find the Buttocks' Mark!|346]])===
At the begin, Sonoko is with Ran visiting Jodie at the hospital. She is very surprised because miss Jodie is a FBI agent. Ahe tihnks she was infiltrated in the high school.
She talks with Ran about her friend did while she was in the 'horror cruise'. She says that this attitude is typical of Ran. Also, they talk to Jodie's photos.

At the beginning of the case, Sonoko is walking with Ran and Conan to return home after school. She says it's very hot and and she should do as Eisuke, which disappears after school.

Sonoko, Ran and Conan are playing tennis in a court. Sonoko likes Takao Goto, the tennis club vice-captain. But suddenly, Goto dies.
Inspector Yamamura goes to investigate the mysterious case. There are three suspects: Yuka Tsuchida, Fumihiro Azuma and Chie Otake. Yamamura surprisingly accuses Sonoko as the culprit.
Conan discovers the truth and he uses Sonoko to solve the case. Sonoko then proves her innocence.

In the end, when she solves the case and reveals the murderer is Azuma, Ran says she was worried. Sonoko got very upset with Yamamura of accusing her as the culprit.

She would often act sad because she couldn't get a boyfriend, using all necessary means to try and get one. Conan and Ran visit Sonoko's mountain villa to see the autumn leaves and meet up with some old friends. On the way to the front they see a strange bandaged man in a dark cloak crossing the bridge. When they see him he turns around, shocking them with his face and eye contact as he quickly makes a retreat around the side of the house. Everything seems fine as Ran tries to find her room, accidentally walking in on the boys of the house. When everyone is asked about the bandaged man he is brushed off as possibly a crazy man with nothing better to do. However he is taken far more seriously when later one of the girls is seen being carried off by him from the windows, the boys give chase and find her dismembered body in the woods.

He had previously attacked Ran in the woods earlier, but ran off when Conan gave chase. Everyone panics and decides that it's best to go to bed for the night, when he strikes again, this time trying to kill Ran in her sleep. Conan kicks Ran out of the way, using his bow-tie to wake her up, she freezes up as Conan grabs for him, but he is thrown against the bed, twisting his ankle. The bandaged man quickly makes a hasty retreat, leaving Conan to wonder why he is targeting Ran.
Everyone decides to stay up for the night and keep together to throw off the murderous man in bandages. Conan suspects that Ran saw something that made her a target for the bandaged man, and the culprit is one of the people staying there. The rush for remembrance is on as Conan desperately tries to solve the mystery before the bandaged man strikes again.

After the investigation, Conan solve the case. Kogoro isn't there to be put to sleep, so he decides to solve the case by Ran. But when he shoots the anesthetic needle, Sonoko appears and she falls asleep. Conan reveals, by Sonoko, the killer is Ryoichi Takahashi.
Sonoko is very proud, she thinks she settled the case. She was in love with Masaru Ohta, but already isn't.
Currently, Conan often uses Sonoko for solving cases.

At the end of the case, Conan asks Ran if she meets Shiro Wakaoji, a young man who was in the coffee shop. She says no, but Shiro is interested by Ran. When he begin to flirt with her, Sonoko arrives. She was his autentic date! Sonoko, very angry, hits him and goes out from there.

===Makoto's Introduction (Manga: [[Volume 22#Sonoko's Camera Case|219-221]], Anime: [[Sonoko's Dangerous Summer Story|153-154]])===
Sonoko, Ran, and Conan go to Izu because of Sonoko's schemes to get a man. At the beach, Sonoko takes a picture of Ran fixing her bathing suit and threatens to send the picture to Shinichi. Sonoko is upset about her lack of love life. However, a college student approaches the girls and asks Sonoko to lunch. He appears to be romantically interested and asks Sonoko to dinner as well. They agree to meet at their lodgings later that day. The college student tells the group a story about a brunette that was murdered a year ago and now haunts the restaurant he wants to dine at. The group then finds out that another brunette was murdered in the woods recently in the same manner as the brunette from a year ago.

The group goes to the crime scene and meet Sango Yokomizo who cautions them to stay safe. Sonoko, Ran, and Conan are staying at a cheap Ryokan because Sonoko doesn't want to scare men away by staying at an expensive luxury hotel. In the evening, the three of them wait for the college student to pick them up in his car. Sonoko realizes that she forgot something in her room and goes back up to get it. Here she discovers a suspicious figure searching her bags. The figure attacks her and is about to stab her with a knife when Ran and Conan, worried about the time Sonoko is taking, come to find her.

Sonoko is saved and the figure escapes through the window. The stoic, and somewhat unfriendly, high school student (Makoto Kyogoku) that is working at the Ryokan moves the group to another room. Ran thinks she has seen this person somewhere before but cannot remember where. The college student shows up muddy and wet and Conan suspects him of attacking Sonoko. Sonoko says she bit the attacker's bicep in her struggle and Conan makes the college student take off his shirt. However, the college student does not have a bite mark on his arm. Makoto has a bandaged bicep and falls under suspicion but Sonoko says he wasn't the attacker since the attacker was hairy. The college student, Sonoko, Ran, and Conan decide to have dinner at the Ryokan because the college student says his car broke down. Conan speculates that Sonoko's attacker was looking for the photographs she was taking during the trip, but cannot figure out why. Conan does not think there are any incriminating photos. Perhaps the murderer overheard Sonoko talking about the photographs and misunderstood. This case is still full of mysteries and Conan cannot figure out why Sonoko was attacked.

Later, Michiwaki (the student), Ran and Conan go to eat to a restaurant, and Sonoko is in Michiwaki's car, sleepy. Suddenly, the car gets on and Sonoko is, again, near the death.
When they go to the police station, Sonoko and Michiwaki enter into the forest. There, Michiwaki tries to kill Sonko: he is the serial killer!
Finally, when Sonoko thinks she is going to death, Makoto appears and save her. Michiwaki is arrested and Makoto says to Sonoko he is in love whit her, but he must goes abroad.
Currently, Sonoko is involved with Makoto.

===Jodie's Introduction (Manga: [[Volume 27#Arcade Murder Case|271-273]], Anime: [[The Battle Game Trap|226-227]])===
Sonoko, Ran, and Conan are at the arcade where they meet their High School English teacher, Jodie Saintemillion who is an avid gamer. Jodie introduces Ran to a virtual reality fighting game which uses mechanics to simulate a real fight. Ran loses to a gamer named Kengo Bito who taunts her in her lost. Bito plays the game again his rival, Takayasu Shimizu; The battle is projected on a large screen. Bito's avatar overwhelms Shimizu's but stops at the climax of the match. The people in the arcade realize Bito is dead and the police are called in.
The police investigate; after reviewing the security camera's footage, they limit the suspects down to four people, a middle aged man, an employee, Shimizu, and Jodie.

The autopsy reveals the poison to be Tetrodotoxin; a poison that causes instant paralysis and death soon after. Conan investigates and learns the method and the culprit who murdered Bito.
Conan tranquilizes Sonoko and impersonates her; declaring Shimizu to be the murderer. Conan reveals that Shimizu was the one playing Bito's avatar in order disguise the fact Bito was already dead. As for the weapon, Conan explains Shimizu hid a needle inside a cigarette, put gum around it, wrapped it around paper and had it stuck to the employee's shoes. As certain evidence, Conan reveals that a coin with Shimizu's fingerprints should be found in Bito's arcade machine. Shimizu confesses revealing Bito's gambling and debt caused his sister to develop Vitamin A deficiency and resulting in her blindness. As Sonoko, Ran, and Jodie leave the arcade, their discussion leads to Shinichi whom Jodie dubs as Cool Guy; She says goodbye whilst calling Conan Cool Guy and leaves. That night, Jodie calls an unknown person discussing how her target, the Rotten Apple has changed appearance.

===Girl Clubbing Case (Manga: [[Volume 28#Girl Clubbing Case|284-286]], Anime: [[Megure's Sealed Secret|217-218]])===
Ran and Sonoko are shopping for a sweater as Sonoko wants to buy for Makoto Kyogoku; Sonoko gets scolded by Ran when she learns that Sonoko wants to make it pass as if she had knitted the sweater for him. Sonoko arrives to the pasta shop right then and upon seeing the girls's pictures she identifies them as Ganguro, girls who change their looks drastically to look fashionable and exotic and as a way to rebel against Japanese society.
Sonoko calls Ran to ask where she is. She says she's in a parking lot and then she screams in terror because she has just found another victim. Said victim is a 20 year old girl named Tae Aizawa, who used to work at the same store: again, a very young woman with bleached hair, tanned skin, and wearing the special jewelry gifts. Unlike the others, however, Aizawa is actually dead.
After discussing some more details, Takagi returns and confirms the information already given. Conan and Ran see that Sonoko isn't with them; Ran mentions that Sonoko was supposed to go to the car and then to the restroom, and then Conan realizes that Sonoko was wearing platform boots... like all the victims. Ran calls Sonoko to her cellphone, and Sonoko says she's looking for a safe way out since the lights are out. She then gets scared since it looks like she's being followed, and as she turns, the culprit is right in front of her and she starts screaming.

Sonoko manages to avoid the culprit's pipe and throws her phone at him, revealing his face. She tries running downstairs, with the man being horrified since she saw him clearly. Conan says that the killer saw Sonoko with Mouri's keys and mistook her for the driver, hence why he's chasing her now. Sonoko's phone lands near a purikura machine located near a restaurant in the tenth floor, so they deduce Sonoko and the killer are not too far away from it. Megure takes active part in commanding the police, and both Matsumoto and Mouri notice how pumped up he is.
Sonoko runs aimlessly in the tenth floor, and when she's about to reach the gates she trips over her boots and falls to the ground. Ran and the police find her phone on the stairs and deduce she's in the apartment store as no one has seen her in the restaurants. Meanwhile, the maddened killer starts ranting about how all the fashionable girls are bitches in sheep's clothing who should be all killed. Sonoko screams again and this time Ran, Conan, Megure and Co. hear her; they also hear the sound of several things falling, Go stones among them, which allow them to see she's now on the fourth floor (the only one with such arrangments).
Sonoko again dodges the pipe, as the culprit rants about how he only wanted to teach her a lesson, but after seeing his face, he had to kill her. Cornered again, Sonoko cowers as he tries to hit her directly... and then Megure shows up. He takes the hit for her and gets struck in the head, but the blow is softened by his hat.
At the end, Ran and Sonoko are moved to tears, thinking Megure's girlfriend died.

===Murderous Pottery Class (Manga: [[Volume 30#Pottery Class Case|305-307]], Anime: [[The Murderous Pottery Class|228-229]])===

Sonoko tells Ran she is attending pottery classes to make a gift to Makoto, a big vessel. Ran decides to join too. One day, Conan follows the girls to the pottery class.
Ran is making an earthel vessel and Sonoko wants to see that, but Ran doesn't want. Joking, the vessel fell. All the class heard a noise, and Sonoko thins Ran's vessel is broken. But no, Ran has got the vessel in her hand.
Conan, Ran, and all the class go to find the origin of the noise, and Sonoko attempts to uncover Ran's vessel. Ran tells her if she do it, their friendship will be broken.
Motoo Mino is killed and they try to discover the truth.
Suddenly, Conan find out the truth: the master murdered Motoo! The little detective uses 'Deduction Queen Sonoko' to solve it.

At the end, she is talking with Ran and Conan, and they see a photo that Makoto send to Sonoko. In the photo, he is with friends and he put flowers in Sonoko's vessel. She is sad because he thought it was a vase.

[[Kogoro Mouri]] receives an invitation to a Halloween cruise; the Halloween cruise is famous for hiring guests to star in a horror film. At the beginning, Sonoko is making-up Kogoro as a monster, specifically as a vampire.
He can bring a friend, and Sonoko wants to go with him because Ran doesn't want, she is afraid by zombies, witches and monsters in general.
The day of the party, she goes with Kogoro there, wearing a witch costume. When they are in a taxi, the taxi driver was disguised as a monster too and scared them.
During the cruise, the party members are divided into groups with team devil consisting of Kogoro, Sonoko, and people disguised as a werewolf, a mummy, a medusa and an invisible man. Sonoko and Kogoro meet Medusa and they talk a lot with her.

During the party, the host is shot by a crossbow, attached to the arrow is a card from team devil.
First, Sonoko thinks, as Kogoro, the mummy is the culprit, because he is the only who hasn't got the card. When Kogoro calls to his house for explain the situation to [[Ran]] and nobody picks up the phone, she says Ran could be having a shower.
Later, when the invisible man gets rid of his bands and is [[Shinichi Kudo]], she is very surprised. Kudo explains the culprit is the werewolf. The murderer says someone called '[[Vermouth]]' forced him to kill the captain.
After, she discovers, at the same time than Kogoro and the others, that the 'invisible man' Shinichi was a faker, and he really is [[Heiji Hattori]].

Sonoko's disguise is entirely black, with a large hat with a stripe in the center, black too. The dress reaches to the thighs, with peak shape. She also wears high boots and long gloves, both black. She carries a broom too.
She looks very happy for go to the party, disguise as a "sexy" witch and search cute and handsome monsters.
We don't know if Sonoko knows Medusa is really [[Yukiko Kudo]].

===Jodie's Truth (Manga: [[Volume 42#Murderer's Car Case|435]], Anime: [[Find the Buttocks' Mark!|346]])===
At the begin, Sonoko is with Ran visiting Jodie at the hospital. She is very surprised because miss Jodie is a FBI agent. Ahe tihnks she was infiltrated in the high school.
She talks with Ran about her friend did while she was in the 'horror cruise'. She says that this attitude is typical of Ran. Also, they talk to Jodie's photos.

At the beginning of the case, Sonoko is walking with Ran and Conan to return home after school. She says it's very hot and and she should do as Eisuke, which disappears after school.

Sonoko, Ran and Conan are playing tennis in a court. Sonoko likes Takao Goto, the tennis club vice-captain. But suddenly, Goto dies.
Inspector Yamamura goes to investigate the mysterious case. There are three suspects: Yuka Tsuchida, Fumihiro Azuma and Chie Otake. Yamamura surprisingly accuses Sonoko as the culprit.
Conan discovers the truth and he uses Sonoko to solve the case. Sonoko then proves her innocence.

In the end, when she solves the case and reveals the murderer is Azuma, Ran says she was worried. Sonoko got very upset with Yamamura of accusing her as the culprit.

Although long distance relationships can be hard to be in, Sonoko has stayed faithful to Makoto, other than dreaming of meeting up with the Kaitou Kid, though this is mostly to see him up close more than anything else.
