[[Vermouth]] is on the phone with [[Gin]]. Vermouth passes on the information that [[Bourbon]] came across, which that [[Sherry]] was hiding in Gunma and was going to travel on the Bell Tree Express, a train own by Suzuki family which hosts a special mystery onboard. Vermouth recalls her encounter with [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] and her promise to let Sherry go. She justifies the upcoming attack on Sherry as Bourbon's job and asks Gin not to interfere before the train reaches its destination.

At the Bell Tree Express, Conan, [[Ran Mouri|Ran]], [[Sonoko Suzuki|Sonoko]], [[Hiroshi Agasa|Agasa]], and the Detective Boys including [[Ai Haibara|Haibara]] prepare to board the train. Haibara still has a cold and has her cold mask on to hide her identity on the platform. The Detective Boys learn that the train usually runs only once a year, but this year will be different because [[Jirokichi Suzuki]] plans to run it a month later in another attempt to lure out [[Kaitou Kid]]. Sonoko also plans to place her love letter to Kid in the train car so he can receive it. Suddenly [[Masumi Sera]] shows up, and she says she is interested in the deduction quiz that will take place in the train. Haibara notices her and cover herself with her jacket's hood.

Next, the group witnesses the arrival of more passengers. Satoru Andou of 8C is the first to arrive, and he is traveling with a client's picture with a solid gold frame. Taisaku Noto (8A) and Mari Idenami (8E) show their familiarity with the conductor. Natsue Komino (8D), an old lady in a wheelchair, is accompanied by her maid Hiruka Sumitomo. And lastly, the angry Etsuto Murobashi appears (7B), and he accosts the conductor to demand his usual room in car 8. [[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro]] (8B) introduces himself to the group after adjusting his mustache into the style of Hercule Poirot, explaining to him that his daughter, Ran, is a friend of the owner of the train, so he got a room on the luxury car. The passengers show shock reaction upon hearing his name.

In Agasa's room, 6B, Conan and the Detective Boys are chatting. Someone knocks on their door. They find a mystery card lying there, telling them they have received the role of detective that will investigate the murder which will occur in room 7B. The group (excluding Agasa) goes to 7B and witnesses a supposed murder incident. A masked man with hood shoots Etsuto Murobashi. They run after the murderer, but he gets away.

Later, they run into a train conductor, and learn that the quiz is suppose to happen an hour later. Conan, with a shocked expression, runs back to 7B only to found out that Ran, Sonoko, and Sera are there instead, and to complicate thing further, Ran's group tell them they're in 8B. It seems that after the murder happened, Car 7 disappear into thin air.

Meanwhile, Haibara, who's slightly behind Conan group, follows them half-heartly, show a strong reaction when Scar Akai leaves one of the rooms. But Scar Akai, who is dressed in a formal outfit, does not notice her and walks in the opposite direction. Haibara catches a glimpse of him.

Conan tries to convince the train conductor that something was wrong with the mystery murder that took place to no avail, nevertheless, they learn more about the nature of the train. Passengers can ring a bell which turns on a light above their door to summon the carriage attendant who sits in the hall. Additionally, each car has no indication of its number inside, only from outside can one tell the car number, a feature added by Jirokichi Suzuki to make the train more mysterious. Meanwhile, Haibara recalls her encounter with Scar Akai a moment ago. She thinks he has the "feeling" of Dai Moroboshi but doesn't understand why he has a burn mark.
Conan then recalls seeing Sera holding a card when they first ran into Ran's cabin. They go back to 7B and confront the girls with the correct conclusion: everything happened in 7B all along and the girls had lied that the room was 8B. Ran's party received the role of accomplices (assigned by the card that Sera held) They temporarily switched their room from 8B to 7B with Murobashi (who will wait in Ran's room, 8B) while the incident happened as part of the trick. As the Detective Boys followed Conan into the room, Sera notices that Haibara is with the group, and she says she wants to have a word with Haibara as well. Haibara starts to look scared, but the conversation is cut short because Scar Akai had been lurking outside the door. Sera demands to know who was there, but Scar Akai hides himself before Sera sees him.
After the trick is revealed, they return to Ran's original room, 8B, to inform Murobashi that their trick got exposed. They try to open the door, but it is chained shut and Murobashi is "sleeping" on the couch. Just then, Sera and Conan notice the gunpowder smell and break the chain link to open the door. They found Etsuto Murobashi was killed in a sealed room!

Conan and Sera explain the reason why Murobashi's case could not be a suicide. Conan then receives a message from an unknown sender and tells the Detective Boys to go back to their room with Ran, and shouts angrily when they don't comply. Haibara thinks about the "ominous feeling" inside her, as well as Conan's tense behavior, as she clinging to Ran and wonders what is going on. Immediately, Scar Akai walks past and glares at Haibara which frightens her. Tooru Amuro also appears right behind Scar Akai, and he explains to Ran how he got a train ticket from online bidding. This happens in the hallway, and the door nearest to the conversation is cracked open so that Subaru Okiya can watch them silently. Okiya is also accompanied by a woman resembling Vermouth with a hat pulled low over her face, who is seemingly busy with her cellphone. He says to her that, "Heaven is siding with us".
Jirokichi Suzuki, who waits at Nagoya station, orders the train to head there without stopping, so he can capture the murderer himself. Without any other choice, Kogoro, Conan, and Sera go to interrogate the passengers. Ran, Sonoko, Agasa, and the Detective Boys return to their room. Mitsuhiko brings up the subject of the woman who saved them from the fire in the last case. It is revealed that Mitsuhuko had sent a video recording of the woman to Kogoro, so Kogoro could find and thank her. Kogoro also thought of uploading the video to the internet. The woman is actually Shiho Miyano. This causes Haibara to panic and think her ominous feeling is due to Black Organzation members on the train.
Jirokichi calls a meeting with the Nagoya Police directing them to restore his and their honor by capturing the murderer post haste. Gin and Vodka watch the pep rally from behind a column on the Nagoya platform. Gin receives an text from Vermouth that Sherry is indeed boarded the train. Conan receives another unknown message. When Sera asks about and tries to look at the message, Conan quickly hides it and says he is just looking up the article on the past case that involves the victim and the passengers. Haibara also receives a message from an unknown address who claim to be Vermouth, asking, "Are you ready?" Haibara makes an excuse to go out. Ran notices her strange behavior and tries but fails to follow her. Alone, Haibara recalls the tape left by her mother, Elena Miyano, which talks about Haibara's parents starting a drug project that will require them to leave Shiho and Akemi behind, a project they call "Silver Bullet". Haibara then regrets that she misunderstood and that the drug was something that shouldn't have been made. She looks at the antidote to APTX 4869 that she is holding and decides to take it so that she can avoid involving those with her in the Black Organization's plot to capture or kill her. Before she can take it, Okiya confronts Haibara, commenting that he can predict the "sisters" without fail, and invites her to "enter our area". Haibara runs away from him instead, thinking she can't be killed while in a shrunken state.

==== Intersection ====
Conan is still investigating the case. He asks the suspects to be filmed while running. Sera leaves the group, intending to take the recordings to the Detective Boys to ask them which looks most like the masked suspect they chased earlier. On the way, Amuro notices her from a room and contacts someone with his cellphone. Scar Akai then walks past the mysterious woman who had come with Okiya. The woman says something to Scar Akai as he passes which startles him. But before he can follow her, Sera confronts him and asks, "Who are you?" Scar Akai smiles and tells Sera, "you haven't changed a bit." and he reveals his face to her. Sera, surprised and confused, responds with "Shuu-nii". (nii is Japanese suffix to call an older brother). She questions Scar Akai, stating that she heard that Akai had died. Sera and Scar Akai's confrontation ends abruptly when Scar Akai knocks Sera unconscious with a taser. Scar Akai then replies that Sera's response was the one he wanted to hear.

====Conclusion====
Amuro opens the large suitcase Andou brought with him and reveals it is a folding mirror that fits the door, with a blob of brown paint placed to hide the number of the door. Andou confesses to the crime.

====Motive====
Satoru Andou wanted retribution against Etsuto Murobashi because his wife was killed in the fire that Etsuto Murobashi set in order to steal valuable artworks from the mansion unnoticed. Initially Andou was going to force Murobashi to confess to the rest of the passengers, but Murobashi gleefully recalling his exciting escape from the fire enraged Andou.

While the deduction show still continues, Scar Akai enters the room belonging to the mysterious lady and throws her luggage out the window. The mysterious woman appears at the door and tells Scar Akai that the dress in the luggage was her favorite. The mysterious woman reveals herself to be [[Yukiko Kudo]] by naming Scar Akai as her old friend, "[[Sharon Vineyard|Sharon]]". Scar Akai rips his mask off and confirms Yukiko's deduction that she is none other than '''Vermouth'''.

Yukiko boasts to Vermouth that they got a hold of Vermouth's weak points, which is Vermouth that doesn't want anyone, including her partner on the train, to know that Conan and Haibara shrunk from the [[APTX 4869]]. Also, Vermouth had ordered software from CG programmer, [[Suguru Itakura]] that probably is related to the de-aging. Yukiko also showed her surprise that Vermouth had a fight with Itakura on the film set even though Sharon is known for her consideration for the staff. Vermouth responds to Yukiko's boast by saying she is the one who saw through Yukiko's team's plan. Vermouth deducts that they will try to fake Shiho Miyano's death so the Black Organization will let go of her for good. Vermouth explains then that Haibara can't be shown dead in her child body because it will cause the Detective Boys to panic and cry, which would bring the Black Organization's attention to them as Sherry's acquaintances. But if Haibara dies in her original body (played by Yukiko with makeup) and those who know her secret keep quiet about that, then the Detective Boys will be none the wiser. This scene will also result in heavily checking the passengers' belongings upon disembarkment and the Black Organization won't be able to take "Sherry's" body away to confirm her identity. Vermouth tells Yukiko that's not only Yukiko's luggage that she disposed of, but the bullet-proof vest with blood contraption that she hid in the basin closet as well. Yukiko say the two are even because even Vermouth sees though her plan but hasn't found Haibara. Vermouth reveals her trick to smoke Haibara out by detonating mutilple smoke bombs she placed earlier. (The bombs can be seen under the attendent's seat and also in the crime scene.)

At the deduction scene, Amuro is the first to notice the smoke, concludes the train is on fire and tells everyone to evacuate to the front of the train. The suspects, who are pyrophobics after surviving the mansion fire incident, become panicked and run. But Conan has to wake up Kogoro and urges Komino and Sumitomo of room D to hurry up and leave. Next, Vermouth correctly deduces that Haibara won't escape the fire to the front like everyone else, but will go in the opposite direction. Then Haibara is shown, now in her original body, running through the smoke past the victim's room (7B). A voice from behind states that Shiho is "as expected of Hell's Angel's daughter" that she is "very much alike". The voice belongs to '''Tooru Amuro''', who introduces himself to Shiho with his codename, [[Bourbon]].

Ran meets Kogoro and asks him where Haibara and Sera are (she assumes he'd know because they should pass his deduction site at some point), but Kogoro doesn't know. The train conductor tries to calm the passengers down from panic about the fire and tells them that the staff has yet to know the full details on the situation but will try to find out as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Vermouth continues to predict Sherry's movement that she will head to the back of train and be killed by the Organization in a silent fashion, rather than involving her friends. Conan then phones Yukiko to inform her that he can't find Haibara anywhere. Vermouth grabs Yukiko's phone away and impersonates her on the phone, telling Conan that Haibara probably escaped to the front like everyone else. Vermouth then receives a message from Bourbon confirming that Sherry is indeed in carriage 8. She then boasts to Yukiko that's it's her team that has the advantage.

In carriage 8, Bourbon tells Sherry he has met her parents and sister. Sherry says she has heard about him and knows he is a rival to Moroboshi Dai, [[Akemi]]'s lover. Bourbon says Dai was an FBI mole, as he suspected. When he heard that Dai/Akai was dead, he didn't believe it at first and enlists Vermouth's help to disguise himself as Akai, hanging around people who knew Akai to observe their reactions. However, this time he had Vermouth disguise as Akai in place of him. He comes to the conclusion that Akai is really dead.

At the Nagoya train station, Gin comments that the presence of the Jirokichi and Aichi police only make the explosion seem like an attempt on their lives, which covers the Black Orgainzation's intention. He then becomes surprised when Vodka informs him Vermouth was asking for more explosives for the plan, without telling him the purpose.

Bourbon, meanwhile, reveals his plan to take Sherry back to the Black Organization alive. He'll have her step inside the storage hold, knock her out, bomb the carriage link to seperate the storage hold form the rest of the train, then have a helicopter on his side take her away. Sherry refuses cooperate, stating that the storage hold is full of explosives, causing Bourbon to realize that Vermouth had altered the plan, wanting to kill Sherry from the start. Sherry steps away behind the door, while a mysterious figure appears behind Bourbon, obscured by smoke. Bourbon asks if the figure is Vermouth; the mysterious figure throws a hand grenade at him. Bourbon, surprised at this, asks who the person is. The figure is revealed to the readers (but not to Bourbon) that he has Shuichi Akai's face, without the scar, and dresses in an outfit like those of Okiya Subaru's, wearing Sera's hat. The grenade explodes, interruping their one-sided conversation. The storage hold is seperated from the train, and seconds later, it explodes, triggered by Vermouth's cellphone.

Vermouth explains to Yukiko she purposefully detonated the second bomb having heard the first one (which confirmed that the storage hold was separated from the train), making sure the explosion wouldn't cause the train to derail. Vermouth leaves the room while Yukiko begins frantically calling for Haibara, but she stops immediately after Vermouth is out of sight. Bourbon is left wondering who the figure was, but he seems to have an idea.

The train stops and the passengers disembark. Vermouth phones Gin about the situation, in which Bourbon claims he saw Sherry die in the explosion; Gin shows doubt about Sherry's survival. Gin points out that Vermouth wanted an explosion on the train so the train couldn't reach its destination at Nagoya (where Gin was waiting). Vermouth tells him they have to be questioned, along with other passengers and that he should be satisfied enough hearing that Sherry is dead. Vermouth hangs up and overhears the Detective Boys talk to Agasa (who has Haibara sleeping on his back) about how they found Haibara in room 7B. What happened was that Haibara got dizzy after taking the drug for her cold and decided to rest there. The room was empty due to it being a crime scene. Vermouth realizes Yukiko's team figured that Haibara would go there, so they waited for her there. Conan's phone call to Yukiko was just an act to keep Vermouth in Yukiko's room while they took Haibara to saftey. But Vermouth can't figure out who the woman who was supposedly killed in front of Bourbon is.

Vermouth then figured out Kaitou Kid's involvement after overhearing Sonoko voice her frustration to Ran that Kaitou Kid won't be able to board the train after the explosion. Vermouth also overheard Conan on the phone with Kaitou Kid, apologizing to him for draging him into a situation with guns and bombs. Kaitou Kid is shown leaving the exploding train on his hang-glider, the gadget Conan deduced Kid would hide in the storage room in the first place. It is revealed in a flashback that Conan had deduced Kid's identity. Kid disguised as '''Hiruka Sumitomo''' (the maid) and had his accomplice disguised as '''Natsue Komino''' (The wheelchair lady). His accomplice, heavily hinted to be [[Konosuke Jii]], can't mimic the voice of the lady, and relies on Kid to voice both of them. He just mouths the words (similar to when Conan solves case as Agasa). So when Conan has Sumitomo run in the corridor, Komino can't speak. Conan has the advantage of being short (looking from below) and saw through Jii's act easily, as well as their reaction about the fire, which wouldn't match the reaction of a pyrophobic.

Conan brings up the point that he purposefully overlooked Kid's actions to avoid being involved with the case as leverage to ask Kid for help. Conan shows him a video of Shiho Miyano and has Kid disguise as her. Conan tells him to be careful because guns and explosives are involved. Conan finishes his conversation by asking Kid to return his cellphone to the detective agency. Kid, annoyed, comments that Conan should be in debt to him for helping, rather than the other way around.

Because of the explosion, the train is brought to an early stop and the passengers disembark so they can be questioned by the police at the station. Konosuke Jii, Kaitou Kid's assistant, has removed his old woman disguise because he is unable to speak without Kid to assist him. Sera tries to figure out what's going on as Ran return her hat which she found in the corridor. Bourbon watches them silently and then asks Vermouth to give him the files from before and after Akai's death one more time. At the greenhouse, the wealthy property owner named Zenzou Sunada is showing Conan, Ran, and Sonoko the golden barrel cactus and it blooms flowers after 50 years. Zenzou raised it when it was small when he was Ran's age. He was able to get it big and make the flowers bloom. In the past of the greenhouse, Sonoko came with her father when she was a little baby and she barely walked. There is a flower on top of the golden barrel cactus and it looks as if it's trapped by thorns on top. The yellow ones are growing. Not just only that, Zenzou has lots of expensive cactuses in the greenhouse and he sets up the security alarm system. After night falls, only he can deactivate the system with his home security card. He always keeps the card in his breast pocket and he thinks it feels most reassuring. Suddenly, Zenzou's two sons named Naoki and Yasuyuki appear and they heard from the lawyer that Zenzou rewrite the will. They want to know why but Zenzou tells his sons to be quiet because he has guests. After that, they left. Suddenly, Zenzou notice the ceramic pots and calls his housekeeper named Yashiro to come at once. He wants her to take them away in a big fuss. Yashiro apologizes and takes the pots away. Zenzou is now going back home but Ran, Sonoko, and Conan can stick around in the greenhouse.

At the Sunada household, Yasuyuki is looking for the inheritance in Zenzou's room while in the dark. Zenzou came by turning the lights on and he has the inheritance in his possession. He's not going to give it to his sons. He's going to give the inheritance and his cactuses to the botanical garden. While they were arguing, Naoki is eavesdropping from outside the room.

At the greenhouse, Conan, Ran, and Sonoko are just looking at the hot water radiator/heater. When Sonoko touches it, it burns her hand.

Meanwhile at the Sunada household, Zenzou tells Yasuyuki that he won't change the will unless Yasuyuki changes his golfer profession into something else. After Yasuyuki leaves the room, he found Naoki. Yasuyuki knows that Naoki is after the inheritance also. While they were talking about wanting the money, Zenzou tells them to be quiet and he dislikes about Yasuyuki and Naoki talking about money. Naoki told Zenzou that he got it wrong that he is just worried about him. Zenzou calls Naoki a liar and he heard that his new company is in the major dept. Naoki whispers to Yasuyuki that's useless trying to pick a fight with their father. They planned that they will convince him later tonight.

Sonoko, Ran, and Conan arrives in the Sunada household. When Conan enters, he accidentally touched the golf bag with his foot while not looking and the golf bag fells on Conan. Yasuyuki picks it up and they felt sorry about it. Ran found the golf mark on the floor so she picks it up and gives it to Yasuyuki. Yasuyuki asks Yashiro to bring his dinner to his room while carrying his golf bag and Yashiro understands.

After dinner, Sonoko is so stuffed that she couldn't eat another bite. Conan is watching the soccer game on tv. Yasuyuki will be going out for practicing golf and Naoki will be checking out the abandoned car in the garage. Ran thanks Yashiro for the food and wonders that she could share the gravy sauce recipe. Sonoko smiles and wonders who is she going to make it for like Shinichi. Ran blushes and tells Sonoko that it's not like that. Sonoko tells Yashiro that she and her friends will be leaving and asks that Zenzou is still in the greenhouse. Yashiro says yes that ever since Zenzou always take of the cactuses everyday from 8 am to 9 pm. Ran will go to him by saying goodbye but Yashiro can't let her do it because Zenzou told Yashiro not to let anyone in until 8:30 so they're going to have to wait a little longer.

Suddenly, the greenhouse alarm rang and they went to check it out what's going on. At the front of the greenhouse, there's Yasuyuki with the shock face. They arrived and they see that Yasuyuki has the will from Zenzou. When they enter the greenhouse, they found the dead body of Zenzou lying on the ground.

Yokomizo and the police have arrived at the crime scene to investigate. They confirmed that the death was most likely caused by a beating with a shovel as a murder weapon. The time of death is between 8:00 to 8:30 pm. Yokomizo tells Ran and Sonoko to tell him what the situation was when they first found the victim. They said that after dinner, during their conversation, around 8:30, the alarm went off. Then, with Yashiro, they ran to the greenhouse. In front of the greenhouse, they found Yasuyuki. When they enter the greenhouse, they found Zenzou dead. After Yokomizo finishes getting the testimony from Sonoko, Ran, and Conan, he tells the other police detective that they're going to ask everyone else who's involved.

Yasuyuki says that because of the alarm went off, he frantically went inside and he saw his father lying on the ground. Yokomizo asks that why was Yasuyuki said he will go out golfing was at the greenhouse. It's because Yasuyuki was called to the greenhouse in a text message. He received the text at 8:20 pm. On Zenzou's cellphone, there's a sent text to Yasuyuki at 8:20 pm. Which means that Zenzou must've been alive until then. Yokomizo found the golf mark near to the victim and it currently belongs to Yasuyuki which makes him the main suspect. Yasuyuki claims that he didn't do it. Yokomizo deduces that after Zenzou contacted Yasuyuki, Yasuyuki pretended to go out golfing, and went to the greenhouse instead. After meeting with Zenzou, he got into an argument about the will. Then, he lost his temper, grabbed a nearby shovel, and beat him to death. In order to receive the inheritance, he stole the will and escape. At that time, he activated the security system and so the alarm went off. Yasuyuki denies it after hearing Yokomizo's deduction. All of a sudden, Conan mentions that inside Zenzou's breast pocket, there should have been a deactivation card. He wonders why didn't Yasuyuki steal it too. If he did, the alarm wouldn't have gone off. Furthermore, there's a fallen cactus near Zenzou. When Conan, Ran, and Sonoko first came to the greenhouse, it wasn't tipped over. The spilled dirt from the pot is completely dry. Also, there was a cactus thorn stuck near Zenzou's chest. Until sudden, Yokomizo tells Conan that's enough and kids shouldn't be hanging around the crime scene.

Conan notice the top of the golden barrel cactus that the yellow flowers have been wilted. He found two ceramic pots on the radiator and looks up the ceiling. Conan finally figured out the real truth of this case.

The police are about to take Yasuyuki to the station but until sudden, they heard the alarm went on. When they go back to the greenhouse, the alarm went off. Conan knocks out Sonoko with his stun gun wristwatch and uses the voice changing bowtie using Sonoko's voice to present his real deduction. He reveals that this was an alibi trick created using the security alarm. The case occurred before Yasuyuki came to the greenhouse. First, at around 8:00, when Zenzou went inside the greenhouse, the culprit snuck in and committed the crime. Next, in order to put the blame on Yasuyuki, the culprit left a golf mark, which only Yasuyuki has. Afterwards, using the finger of Zenzou's corpse, the culprit sent a text message to Yasuyuki. To create an alibi, the culprit set the cellphone to send the text message at 8:20 pm. The police can ask the phone company to confirm it. The culprit then used the deactivation card Zenzou had to escape from the greenhouse. In order to avoid being spotted by Ran, Sonoko, and Conan, the culprit used the back door, which can't been seen from the living room, to re-enter to the mansion. Then, when the culprit ran to the victim, the card was returned. That's why while Yasuyuki was stealing the will, he didn't notice the card. Obviously, it was because the culprit had the card at the time. That means when the alarm went off, there was nobody in the greenhouse. Why did the alarm go off is because the security system is the key to the trick and has become a trap for the culprit. On top of the radiator, they are two ceramic pots on top of it. The security system rings when it detects infrared rays from a person. Ceramic pots, like humans, also easily released infrared rays when heated. The culprit took advantage of that. Conan experimented with it earlier. He puts the pots on top of the radiator. That's why the alarm went off earlier. The same situation as when Yasuyuki came in, in other words, it splendidly rang. Also, there is only one person who could commit the crime. The real culprit is '''Misa Yashiro'''. Yashiro thinks that's an interesting theory but asks for evidence to prove it. Conan deduces that the culprit beat Zenzou to death and accidentally knocked a cactus down. However, there was a reason why the culprit had to move the cactus. It was to get the deactivation card. That's when the culprit's hands were pricked by the thorns. That means the person with injured hands is the culprit. When Yashiro shows her hands, it had pricked marks on it. The cactus told Conan about it. When they came to the crime scene, the dirt from the fallen cactus was already dry. Also, the flowers that bloomed had already wilted. That's when it hit Conan. That there was something to do with the greenhouse's temperature. Also, the key to solving the trick was the pot. The pots were stored away earlier were there after the crime. That's when he confirmed it. Because the only person who knows where the stored pots are is Yashiro. Yashiro confesses to the crime and reveals that she despised Zenzou. Before he retired, he forced many companies into bankruptcy without a drop of guilt. He drove many proprietors to commit suicide. Among them was the person who raised Yashiro all on his own: her father. Zenzou retired. When Yashiro found out he was hiring a housekeeper, she became determined to avenge her father. Then, after seeing his sons waste all their money, she decided to put the blame on one of those two. Yashiro is now arrested for murder.

On Zenzou's cellphone, there's a sent text to Yasuyuki at 8:20 pm. Which means that Zenzou must've been alive until then. Yokomizo found the golf mark near to the victim and it currently belongs to Yasuyuki which makes him the main suspect. Yasuyuki claims that he didn't do it. Yokomizo deduces that after Zenzou contacted Yasuyuki, Yasuyuki pretended to go out golfing, and went to the greenhouse instead. After meeting with Zenzou, he got into an argument about the will. Then, he lost his temper, grabbed a nearby shovel, and beat him to death. In order to receive the inheritance, he stole the will and escape. At that time, he activated the security system and so the alarm went off. Yasuyuki denies it after hearing Yokomizo's deduction. All of a sudden, Conan mentions that inside Zenzou's breast pocket, there should have been a deactivation card. He wonders why didn't Yasuyuki steal it too. If he did, the alarm wouldn't have gone off. Furthermore, there's a fallen cactus near Zenzou. When Conan, Ran, and Sonoko first came to the greenhouse, it wasn't tipped over. The spilled dirt from the pot is completely dry. Also, there was a cactus thorn stuck near Zenzou's chest. Until sudden, Yokomizo tells Conan that's enough and kids shouldn't be hanging around the crime scene.

Conan notice the top of the golden barrel cactus that the yellow flowers have been wilted. He found two ceramic pots on the radiator and looks up the ceiling. Conan finally figured out the real truth of this case.

The police are about to take Yasuyuki to the station but until sudden, they heard the alarm went on. When they go back to the greenhouse, the alarm went off. Conan knocks out Sonoko with his stun gun wristwatch and uses the voice changing bowtie using Sonoko's voice to present his real deduction. He reveals that this was an alibi trick created using the security alarm. The case occurred before Yasuyuki came to the greenhouse. First, at around 8:00, when Zenzou went inside the greenhouse, the culprit snuck in and committed the crime. Next, in order to put the blame on Yasuyuki, the culprit left a golf mark, which only Yasuyuki has. Afterwards, using the finger of Zenzou's corpse, the culprit sent a text message to Yasuyuki. To create an alibi, the culprit set the cellphone to send the text message at 8:20 pm. The police can ask the phone company to confirm it. The culprit then used the deactivation card Zenzou had to escape from the greenhouse. In order to avoid being spotted by Ran, Sonoko, and Conan, the culprit used the back door, which can't been seen from the living room, to re-enter to the mansion. Then, when the culprit ran to the victim, the card was returned. That's why while Yasuyuki was stealing the will, he didn't notice the card. Obviously, it was because the culprit had the card at the time. That means when the alarm went off, there was nobody in the greenhouse. Why did the alarm go off is because the security system is the key to the trick and has become a trap for the culprit. On top of the radiator, they are two ceramic pots on top of it. The security system rings when it detects infrared rays from a person. Ceramic pots, like humans, also easily released infrared rays when heated. The culprit took advantage of that. Conan experimented with it earlier. He puts the pots on top of the radiator. That's why the alarm went off earlier. The same situation as when Yasuyuki came in, in other words, it splendidly rang. Also, there is only one person who could commit the crime. The real culprit is '''Misa Yashiro'''. Yashiro thinks that's an interesting theory but asks for evidence to prove it. Conan deduces that the culprit beat Zenzou to death and accidentally knocked a cactus down. However, there was a reason why the culprit had to move the cactus. It was to get the deactivation card. That's when the culprit's hands were pricked by the thorns. That means the person with injured hands is the culprit. When Yashiro shows her hands, it had pricked marks on it. The cactus told Conan about it. When they came to the crime scene, the dirt from the fallen cactus was already dry. Also, the flowers that bloomed had already wilted. That's when it hit Conan. That there was something to do with the greenhouse's temperature. Also, the key to solving the trick was the pot. The pots were stored away earlier were there after the crime. That's when he confirmed it. Because the only person who knows where the stored pots are is Yashiro. Yashiro confesses to the crime and reveals that she despised Zenzou. Before he retired, he forced many companies into bankruptcy without a drop of guilt. He drove many proprietors to commit suicide. Among them was the person who raised Yashiro all on his own: her father. Zenzou retired. When Yashiro found out he was hiring a housekeeper, she became determined to avenge her father. Then, after seeing his sons waste all their money, she decided to put the blame on one of those two. Yashiro is now arrested for murder.

== The Missing Man ==

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro ride a bus to a [[wikipedia:Pension_(lodging)|pension]] for some rest and relaxation. On the journey, Ran, trying to feed Conan apple slices, accidentally stabs a bearded man in a parka with a fork after the bus goes on to some bumpy road. Ran apologizes and notices the man is bleeding, but he shouts at her that he's okay. Kogoro bickers with Ran regarding Conan constantly staying with them without paying any money. Ran argues back that Conan has brought him good luck in receiving and solving cases. Upon arriving at the pension, a man named Yamashita introduces himself to Kogoro. The man Ran stabbed earlier, Tanaka, leaves the main group carrying skis with him.

Later that night at dinner, the group notices Yamashita and Tanaka haven't come down yet. Ran and Conan go to get Yamashita from his room but find him dead on the floor with a knife in his back.

Conan and Kogoro search for clues as to the murderer and discover a bloody shirt and knife sheath in Tanaka's room. The entire group meets downstairs to discuss what to do, but it seems impossible to chase after Tanaka since there's a blizzard outside. Conan, looking at the serious face of Endou, one of the group members, notices an odd marking. Realizing the trick of how Tanaka disappeared, Conan comments on the marking of where a beard was glued on and points out the odd fork-like markings on the man's wrist.

'''Endou''', discovering Conan is responsible for his downfall, grabs a poker from near the stove and chases him with it until Ran uses her karate skills to knock him unconscious. As Endou is taken away by the police the next day, it is revealed that Endou killed Yamashita for stealing his girlfriend from him. Mitsuhiko shows off his wideband receiver to the other Detective Boys and explains how it is able to overhear phonecalls. When the group overhears a man receiving demands from his daughter's kidnapper, Conan and the Detective Boys set to work to stop him. The group listens carefully to the call for clues as the kidnapper threatens to kill the kidnapped Junko if his demands aren't met. Using the Electronic Notebook Map, Conan manages to narrow the search area to the distance the wideband receiver gets signals. Having overheard a train during the phone call, the group heads for the one spot in range where there are railroad tracks.

Realizing a miscalculation, Conan rushes to find the kidnapper who is watching Junko's father from a distance. As the kidnapper demands Junko's father to commit suicide, Conan uses the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] to slam a soccer ball into the kidnapper's face and stop Junko's father just in time. Genta picks up the wideband receiver only to overhear a phone call between his mother and Mitsuhiko's in which it seems both boys will be in trouble when they return home. Conan remarks that the life of an elementary schooler is rough.

Lead actress of the play "The Tail of a Comet" Michiru Ushio and her co-star Saeko Kusunoki are preparing in the dressing room for their next performance. Michiru comments to Saeko she's sorry that Saeko didn't get the lead part. Saeko claims to be okay but as Michiru leaves she comments to herself that Michiru is a thief for taking the role from her and that Michiru's performance will be her last. Meanwhile, the play begins as Ran, Conan, and Kogoro watch in the audience. As Michiru's scene ends, Saeko playing the role of a shining ghost takes her place as Ran comments that even though the lights are all off they can see Saeko's body is shining. As Saeko leaves the stage, Michiru goes back on with a wire harness to perform a flying scene. Saeko anxiously awaits for something to happen to Michiru during the flying scene, but much to her dismay, Michiru gets through the scene safely.

As Saeko's first plan to get rid of Michiru fails, she thinks to herself about her motive for doing so in the first place. Michiru managed to get the lead role because her father is the sponsor of the theater group. Saeko leaves the stage after her scene as Michiru goes back on for a solo scene. Saeko watches the scene from a screen backstage as Michiru performs until suddenly at the end of her scene, a massive light fixture falls on top of her.

Conan and Kogoro immediately leap into action, leaving Ran behind. Conan and Kogoro begin investigating backstage, discovering a crew member talking about the "stopper" used on the lights to keep them from moving. As the member explains, Conan discovers that the harness Michiru was flying in earlier was tampered with. As Conan points this out to Kogoro it becomes apparent that the light incident must not have been an accident, but rather a murder. The rest of the stage crew are puzzled as to how this could be since everyone was watching Michiru's scene on the video monitor backstage. As Kogoro tries to work it out, Conan discovers water on the ground by the pulley that holds the lights. The leader in charge of the stage production is about to shut down the production for good when Saeko steps forward claiming she can bravely do Michiru's role.

He then tricks '''Saeko Kusunoki''' into going backstage with him and is able to point out to Kogoro that both the floor by the pulley and Saeko are still glowing from the fluorescent paint. It is then revealed that Saeko managed to set up the trick with the pulley using ice in order to provide herself with an alibi. As Conan and Kogoro leave the theater they are shocked to discover Ran has left a mass of destruction from her anger from being left behind.

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro are in attendance at movie director Nagira Oosawa's party for his latest hit movie. Oosawa gives a speech to the crowd with his wife Asako standing next to him as Conan overhears a few ladies in the crowd gossiping about Oosawa and Asako's relationship. Kogoro offers his thanks to Oosawa as Conan notices a man standing next to him wearing shoes with shiny rubber soles like rainboots. Conan, puzzled, asks the man if it's raining outside. The man gives Conan an excuse when all of a sudden Oosawa is seen loudly shouting at Asako for forgetting to bring his medicine to the party. Conan feels sorry for Asako until he realizes she oddly has a strange smile on her face as she look across the room at the man with the shoes Conan talked to earlier.

Later that night, Conan runs off for the bathroom only to discover water is covering the entire floor. While in the bathroom Conan discovers a cockroach scuttling across the floor behind him when Oosawa comes in to the bathroom as well. Conan washes his hands when all of a sudden Oosawa clutches his chest and falls to the ground dead.

Conan gets help and as Kogoro and the crowd try to calm Asako down, Conan discovers the cockroach from earlier on the bathroom floor dead as well. Over by the drain on the floor, Conan notices odd specks and, thanks to Kogoro's unwilling help, discovers the specks to be salt. Continuing to investigate the bathroom, Conan spots a toilet with electronic settings plugged in to a wall and that at the bottom of Oosawa's outfit there are odd strands of gold thread near his feet.

Putting the clues together, Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] on Kogoro and the [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] to reveal that the man with the rubber soles ''and'' Asako are responsible for Oosawa's death. The man with the rubber soles electrified the floor of the bathroom using the super conductive salty water while Asako, who had been having an affair with the man, had attached the gold thread to Oosawa's clothing to ensure he would be electrocuted.

== Haunted Building ==

Genta tells Conan, Mitsuhiko, and Ayumi a story about a abandoned skyscraper in Beika [[wikipedia:Japanese_addressing_system|4-chōme]] where the ghost of the building's owner who committed suicide is said to be seen in one of the building's windows. Mitsuhiko dismisses the story as nonsense, irritating Genta. Ayumi suggests that the group should go check out to see if the story is for real or not. The following day, the Detective Boys manage to sneak in to the building carrying flashlights. Conan asks the group how on Earth they plan on proving if they see a real ghost or not and the other members reveal they have brought hand mirror [[wikipedia:Omamori|omamoris]]. The Detective Boys explore the building and find no ghosts, but get spooked by strange sounds and lights until Conan points out the sounds are simply wind blowing through the air duct system and neon signs glowing through the open windows.

As Conan peers out one of the windows, he discovers that the building still has more floors to explore above even though the group hadn't come across a staircase leading to the next level. The group manages to discover a ladder in the elevator shaft leading to the next floor and they follow it up. While exploring the new floor the group is startled by the sound of a phone echoing throughout the area. As Conan tracks down the source of the sound, they discover the ringing came from a cell phone lying next to a bloodied corpse.

As Ayumi clutches her mirror in front of her using it as a protective amulet she is shocked to discover someone else's reflection above her own. The group turns around to discover the ragged looking man responsible for killing the person on the floor. The man then chases the group with a long pipe in an attempt to kill them, leaving Genta, Ayumi, and Mitsuhiko to become separated from Conan. Conan manages to hold the man's attention away from the other kids and attempts to use the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] only for them to fail. Without any protection, Conan dodges the man's attacks and cuts off his flashlight. The man in an attempt to see where Conan is manages to create a torch. The man spots Conan and charges only to fall into the elevator shaft and falls unconscious. Conan tricked the man using the mirror in his pocket he had picked up from Ayumi earlier and had attached it to the wire of the elevator's pulley system. The murderer is revealed to be none other than the building owner that had been rumored to have hanged himself. The owner had been hiding from debt collectors which eventually led to the owner getting neurosis. The murder victim was somebody who was also curious about the rumors and went to see the ghost for himself only to be mistaken for being a debt collector so the owner killed him. The police bring the owner to justice and as the group is scolded by their mothers and Ran for going out to a dangerous place without permission, Conan jokingly remarks how the omamori won't be able to protect him from Ran.

Ran and Conan go snorkeling while Kogoro relaxes on a beach only to find a corpse with a heavy weight attached to her feet floating in the shallow water.

The corpse is revealed to be Mitsuko Sekine after being identified by one of her friends. The local doctor, Tanaka, is surprised to find out Kogoro is a detective and claims that Mitsuko committed suicide. Tanaka gives a valid reason for how she did but Conan seems uneasy about the doctor's reasoning.

Mitsuko's friend calls Tanaka a murderer as he leaves the scene and she reveals that Mitsuko and Tanaka had been seeing eachother until Tanaka broke up with her after becoming engaged to the daughter of a major hospital. Kogoro tries to confront Tanaka and pin the murder of Mitsuko on him but Tanaka reveals he has a solid alibi. Conan then rushes to the beach in order to look for clues when he discovers an old man who explains that trash from the ocean tends to end up in front of his shack because of the currents. In the pile of trash, Conan discovers an intertube with a small hole punctured in the side and then sets to work figuring out where the murderer originally dropped the body in the water. By conducting an experiment in which he throws a bunch of water bottles into the ocean at random places, Conan is able to figure out how Tanaka set up his alibi and commit the murder.

Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] and [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] on Kogoro to reveal his deduction. Conan explains that Tanaka drugged Mitsuko, placed her in the ring of the intertube, made a small hole, and then set her adrift in the ocean. The air escaped from the intertube slowly and the currents carried Mitsuko far away so that Tanaka was able to create his alibi. To further prove Tanaka's guilt, Conan points out that the knot of rope that was around Mitsuko's ankles is facing the wrong direction of what it should be if Mitsuko had tied the rope herself to commit suicide. Tanaka is then caught as Kogoro, Conan, and Ran wrap up their vacation by eating [[wikipedia:Kakigōri|kakigōri]].

Conan is waiting for his turn to speak to a teller at Beika Bank when he spots a male worker looking for the branch manager of the bank. The manager seems distracted however and glances at his watch. A black car pulls up outside the bank and a man comes out just as Conan's turn is up. The man waves a gun around, demanding the bank fill his money bag. Spotting the manager, the man tosses him the bag to fill it up. While the robber's back is turned a security officer attempts to sneak up behind the robber only for the manager to speak up, causing the sneak attack to fail.

Determined to stop the robber from getting away, Conan manages to put a tracking sticker on the robber's money bag but is caught in the process. The robber holds a gun at Conan's face only to suddenly remark "Time is up" and runs away. A teller shouts that they need to get the robber's license plate number when the manager suddenly volunteers to do the job himself. The manager fails to get out of the building in time and get the number as Conan quickly gets on his [[Turbo Engine Skateboard]] to track the car down. The robber, realizing he's being followed brakes suddenly sending Conan skidding under a moving truck. Luckily Conan only receives a number of scratches and bruises on his body, but the skateboard loses a wheel in the incident, forcing Conan to continue his search on foot.

He picks up the signal again only to be surprised to find it leads him back to Beika Bank. Conan spots the robber and follows him across the street from the bank to a high-rise building. The robber meets with a man, later revealed to be the bank manager, only for both of them to be knocked out by Conan using the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] and a metal bucket. It is revealed that the robber stole under the bank manager's orders and they were going to split the money.

A TV broadcast later that night reports on the capture of the culprits and how they claim to have heard a voice before being knocked out. Ran comments that whoever captured the men is like a hero in a TV drama and wonders what they look like. Kogoro then makes a weird face and says "Like this!". Conan, overhearing and becoming irritated, puts a very spicy wasabi sauce on Kogoro's tuna when he isn't looking.

A female client then arrives at the agency with a manifesto from Kaitou Nero saying that they will steal the {{nihongo|"Angel's Bath"|天使の沐浴|Tenshi no mokuyoku}} tonight. The client mentions that she and her husband are unable to involve the police in this matter so Kogoro accepts the case. As Conan pulls a slingshot out of his pocket he remembers that he promised to hang out with the Detective Boys that day. He decides to follow Kogoro to the client's house instead.

At the house, Kogoro and Conan meet the painting's current owner, the Ootsuki Trade President Fumitaka Ootsuki, and discover he has quite an extensive collection of fine art throughout the building. The "Angel's Bath" is stored in a loft type room of the house that is only accessible via the press of a button on a remote control carried by Ootsuki. Conan poses a question to Kogoro, wondering why the client couldn't call the police to help.

Later, while walking around, Conan overhears Ootsuki having an interesting conversation on the phone regarding the painting to somebody. It seems that Ootsuki's collection isn't entirely collected through legitimate means, which prevents Ootsuki from involving the police. Conan then discovers a listening device under the couch Kogoro is napping on, causing him to ask Ootsuki's wife if any unexpected people dropped by in the past few days. The wife explains that a person from the gas company dropped by. After realizing the listening device was installed because Nero wasn't able to figure out where the "Angel's Bath" is hidden Conan uses the [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] to tell Nero the location and lure them out.

Later that night the lights cut off and Conan rushes towards the loft only to twist his ankle when Ootsuki steps on his foot and pushes him out of the way. Discovering Kogoro asleep at the foot of the ladder leading to the loft, Conan and Ootsuki go to a nearby room and discover an empty picture frame on the floor and a rope tied from the window to a tree. Ootsuki rushes back downstairs but Conan heads back towards the loft and finds himself face-to-face with Nero who had just retrieved the real painting. Although Nero's face is completely covered, the tight-fitting body suit reveals Nero to be a woman. Conan, unable to use the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] because of his ankle suddenly remembers the slingshot in his pocket, but before he uses it, Nero runs past him knocking Conan to the floor. Conan takes aim at the painting instead of Nero. Unable to allow the painting to be destroyed, Nero gives it up and escapes after asking Conan his name. Ootsuki is relieved to still have the painting until Conan as "Sleeping Kogoro" reveals the police have been informed of his wrongdoings.

Conan and Ran are attending a fancy dinner party at Sonoko's house when Sonoko walks over to talk to Ran about forgetting about waiting for Shinichi and to come with her to pick up cute guys at the party. As Sonoko says her plan aloud she is greeted by Nanbara: the "idiot son" of the head of XX Shuppan and a horrible person, according to Sonoko. Nanbara while carrying a wine glass forcibly leads Sonoko and Ran walking around with him so he can go make coffee when he comes across his friend Takechi who is carrying a case around with him and wearing gloves on his hands. Nanbara gloats about being surrounded by ladies when he trips and knocks the contents of his wine glass on Takechi.

Sonoko offers Takechi the use of the shower which he accepts. While Takechi cleans himself up Conan asks Nanbara why Takechi is wearing gloves and carrying the case. Nanbara explains Takechi's germophobic tendencies before excusing himself to retrieve coffee cups. Nanbara later makes coffee for Conan, Ran, Sonoko, himself, and Takechi. After Takechi adds sugar and cream to his coffee and takes a sip he collapses to the floor, dead. Once Megure arrives and reveals Takechi died from poison, Nanbara recalls that Takechi had been acting strange recently. The police then find a suicide note on Takechi's jacket, but Conan isn't convinced.

After discovering oddities about the note and Takechi's stirring spoon Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] on Sonoko and reveals Nanbara is responsible for the poisoning. Because Takechi prefers using his own items he was carrying a set of silverware in the case he was taking around with him. While Takechi was in the shower Nanbara spread poison on the spoon he knew Takechi would use for the coffee. Nanbara tricked Takechi into writing the suicide note by asking Takechi to write some notes down for him on a notepad while pretending to be on a phone call. As proof, Conan as Sonoko points out that Nanbara's handkerchief has ink imprints from the supposed suicide note on it.　Nanbara's motive was that he was in debt to Takechi and was unable to pay. Ran compliments Sonoko on her deductive reasoning and Sonoko claims she'll try even harder next time to snag a cute guy.

== The Missing Man ==

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro ride a bus to a [[wikipedia:Pension_(lodging)|pension]] for some rest and relaxation. On the journey, Ran, trying to feed Conan apple slices, accidentally stabs a bearded man in a parka with a fork after the bus goes on to some bumpy road. Ran apologizes and notices the man is bleeding, but he shouts at her that he's okay. Kogoro bickers with Ran regarding Conan constantly staying with them without paying any money. Ran argues back that Conan has brought him good luck in receiving and solving cases. Upon arriving at the pension, a man named Yamashita introduces himself to Kogoro. The man Ran stabbed earlier, Tanaka, leaves the main group carrying skis with him.

Later that night at dinner, the group notices Yamashita and Tanaka haven't come down yet. Ran and Conan go to get Yamashita from his room but find him dead on the floor with a knife in his back.

Conan and Kogoro search for clues as to the murderer and discover a bloody shirt and knife sheath in Tanaka's room. The entire group meets downstairs to discuss what to do, but it seems impossible to chase after Tanaka since there's a blizzard outside. Conan, looking at the serious face of Endou, one of the group members, notices an odd marking. Realizing the trick of how Tanaka disappeared, Conan comments on the marking of where a beard was glued on and points out the odd fork-like markings on the man's wrist.

Mitsuhiko shows off his wideband receiver to the other Detective Boys and explains how it is able to overhear phonecalls. When the group overhears a man receiving demands from his daughter's kidnapper, Conan and the Detective Boys set to work to stop him. The group listens carefully to the call for clues as the kidnapper threatens to kill the kidnapped Junko if his demands aren't met. Using the Electronic Notebook Map, Conan manages to narrow the search area to the distance the wideband receiver gets signals. Having overheard a train during the phone call, the group heads for the one spot in range where there are railroad tracks.

Realizing a miscalculation, Conan rushes to find the kidnapper who is watching Junko's father from a distance. As the kidnapper demands Junko's father to commit suicide, Conan uses the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] to slam a soccer ball into the kidnapper's face and stop Junko's father just in time. Genta picks up the wideband receiver only to overhear a phone call between his mother and Mitsuhiko's in which it seems both boys will be in trouble when they return home. Conan remarks that the life of an elementary schooler is rough.

Lead actress of the play "The Tail of a Comet" Michiru Ushio and her co-star Saeko Kusunoki are preparing in the dressing room for their next performance. Michiru comments to Saeko she's sorry that Saeko didn't get the lead part. Saeko claims to be okay but as Michiru leaves she comments to herself that Michiru is a thief for taking the role from her and that Michiru's performance will be her last. Meanwhile, the play begins as Ran, Conan, and Kogoro watch in the audience. As Michiru's scene ends, Saeko playing the role of a shining ghost takes her place as Ran comments that even though the lights are all off they can see Saeko's body is shining. As Saeko leaves the stage, Michiru goes back on with a wire harness to perform a flying scene. Saeko anxiously awaits for something to happen to Michiru during the flying scene, but much to her dismay, Michiru gets through the scene safely.

As Saeko's first plan to get rid of Michiru fails, she thinks to herself about her motive for doing so in the first place. Michiru managed to get the lead role because her father is the sponsor of the theater group. Saeko leaves the stage after her scene as Michiru goes back on for a solo scene. Saeko watches the scene from a screen backstage as Michiru performs until suddenly at the end of her scene, a massive light fixture falls on top of her.

Conan and Kogoro immediately leap into action, leaving Ran behind. Conan and Kogoro begin investigating backstage, discovering a crew member talking about the "stopper" used on the lights to keep them from moving. As the member explains, Conan discovers that the harness Michiru was flying in earlier was tampered with. As Conan points this out to Kogoro it becomes apparent that the light incident must not have been an accident, but rather a murder. The rest of the stage crew are puzzled as to how this could be since everyone was watching Michiru's scene on the video monitor backstage. As Kogoro tries to work it out, Conan discovers water on the ground by the pulley that holds the lights. The leader in charge of the stage production is about to shut down the production for good when Saeko steps forward claiming she can bravely do Michiru's role.

He then tricks '''Saeko Kusunoki''' into going backstage with him and is able to point out to Kogoro that both the floor by the pulley and Saeko are still glowing from the fluorescent paint. It is then revealed that Saeko managed to set up the trick with the pulley using ice in order to provide herself with an alibi. As Conan and Kogoro leave the theater they are shocked to discover Ran has left a mass of destruction from her anger from being left behind.

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro are in attendance at movie director Nagira Oosawa's party for his latest hit movie. Oosawa gives a speech to the crowd with his wife Asako standing next to him as Conan overhears a few ladies in the crowd gossiping about Oosawa and Asako's relationship. Kogoro offers his thanks to Oosawa as Conan notices a man standing next to him wearing shoes with shiny rubber soles like rainboots. Conan, puzzled, asks the man if it's raining outside. The man gives Conan an excuse when all of a sudden Oosawa is seen loudly shouting at Asako for forgetting to bring his medicine to the party. Conan feels sorry for Asako until he realizes she oddly has a strange smile on her face as she look across the room at the man with the shoes Conan talked to earlier.

Later that night, Conan runs off for the bathroom only to discover water is covering the entire floor. While in the bathroom Conan discovers a cockroach scuttling across the floor behind him when Oosawa comes in to the bathroom as well. Conan washes his hands when all of a sudden Oosawa clutches his chest and falls to the ground dead.

Conan gets help and as Kogoro and the crowd try to calm Asako down, Conan discovers the cockroach from earlier on the bathroom floor dead as well. Over by the drain on the floor, Conan notices odd specks and, thanks to Kogoro's unwilling help, discovers the specks to be salt. Continuing to investigate the bathroom, Conan spots a toilet with electronic settings plugged in to a wall and that at the bottom of Oosawa's outfit there are odd strands of gold thread near his feet.

Putting the clues together, Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] on Kogoro and the [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] to reveal that the man with the rubber soles ''and'' Asako are responsible for Oosawa's death. The man with the rubber soles electrified the floor of the bathroom using the super conductive salty water while Asako, who had been having an affair with the man, had attached the gold thread to Oosawa's clothing to ensure he would be electrocuted.

Genta tells Conan, Mitsuhiko, and Ayumi a story about a abandoned skyscraper in Beika [[wikipedia:Japanese_addressing_system|4-chōme]] where the ghost of the building's owner who committed suicide is said to be seen in one of the building's windows. Mitsuhiko dismisses the story as nonsense, irritating Genta. Ayumi suggests that the group should go check out to see if the story is for real or not. The following day, the Detective Boys manage to sneak in to the building carrying flashlights. Conan asks the group how on Earth they plan on proving if they see a real ghost or not and the other members reveal they have brought hand mirror [[wikipedia:Omamori|omamoris]]. The Detective Boys explore the building and find no ghosts, but get spooked by strange sounds and lights until Conan points out the sounds are simply wind blowing through the air duct system and neon signs glowing through the open windows.

As Conan peers out one of the windows, he discovers that the building still has more floors to explore above even though the group hadn't come across a staircase leading to the next level. The group manages to discover a ladder in the elevator shaft leading to the next floor and they follow it up. While exploring the new floor the group is startled by the sound of a phone echoing throughout the area. As Conan tracks down the source of the sound, they discover the ringing came from a cell phone lying next to a bloodied corpse.

As Ayumi clutches her mirror in front of her using it as a protective amulet she is shocked to discover someone else's reflection above her own. The group turns around to discover the ragged looking man responsible for killing the person on the floor. The man then chases the group with a long pipe in an attempt to kill them, leaving Genta, Ayumi, and Mitsuhiko to become separated from Conan. Conan manages to hold the man's attention away from the other kids and attempts to use the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] only for them to fail. Without any protection, Conan dodges the man's attacks and cuts off his flashlight. The man in an attempt to see where Conan is manages to create a torch. The man spots Conan and charges only to fall into the elevator shaft and falls unconscious. Conan tricked the man using the mirror in his pocket he had picked up from Ayumi earlier and had attached it to the wire of the elevator's pulley system. The murderer is revealed to be none other than the building owner that had been rumored to have hanged himself. The owner had been hiding from debt collectors which eventually led to the owner getting neurosis. The murder victim was somebody who was also curious about the rumors and went to see the ghost for himself only to be mistaken for being a debt collector so the owner killed him. The police bring the owner to justice and as the group is scolded by their mothers and Ran for going out to a dangerous place without permission, Conan jokingly remarks how the omamori won't be able to protect him from Ran.

Ran and Conan go snorkeling while Kogoro relaxes on a beach only to find a corpse with a heavy weight attached to her feet floating in the shallow water. The corpse is revealed to be Mitsuko Sekine after being identified by one of her friends. The local doctor, Tanaka, is surprised to find out Kogoro is a detective and claims that Mitsuko committed suicide. Tanaka gives a valid reason for how she did but Conan seems uneasy about the doctor's reasoning.

Mitsuko's friend calls Tanaka a murderer as he leaves the scene and she reveals that Mitsuko and Tanaka had been seeing eachother until Tanaka broke up with her after becoming engaged to the daughter of a major hospital. Kogoro tries to confront Tanaka and pin the murder of Mitsuko on him but Tanaka reveals he has a solid alibi. Conan then rushes to the beach in order to look for clues when he discovers an old man who explains that trash from the ocean tends to end up in front of his shack because of the currents. In the pile of trash, Conan discovers an intertube with a small hole punctured in the side and then sets to work figuring out where the murderer originally dropped the body in the water. By conducting an experiment in which he throws a bunch of water bottles into the ocean at random places, Conan is able to figure out how Tanaka set up his alibi and commit the murder.

Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] and [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] on Kogoro to reveal his deduction. Conan explains that Tanaka drugged Mitsuko, placed her in the ring of the intertube, made a small hole, and then set her adrift in the ocean. The air escaped from the intertube slowly and the currents carried Mitsuko far away so that Tanaka was able to create his alibi. To further prove Tanaka's guilt, Conan points out that the knot of rope that was around Mitsuko's ankles is facing the wrong direction of what it should be if Mitsuko had tied the rope herself to commit suicide. Tanaka is then caught as Kogoro, Conan, and Ran wrap up their vacation by eating [[wikipedia:Kakigōri|kakigōri]].

Conan is waiting for his turn to speak to a teller at Beika Bank when he spots a male worker looking for the branch manager of the bank. The manager seems distracted however and glances at his watch. A black car pulls up outside the bank and a man comes out just as Conan's turn is up. The man waves a gun around, demanding the bank fill his money bag. Spotting the manager, the man tosses him the bag to fill it up. While the robber's back is turned a security officer attempts to sneak up behind the robber only for the manager to speak up, causing the sneak attack to fail.

Determined to stop the robber from getting away, Conan manages to put a tracking sticker on the robber's money bag but is caught in the process. The robber holds a gun at Conan's face only to suddenly remark "Time is up" and runs away. A teller shouts that they need to get the robber's license plate number when the manager suddenly volunteers to do the job himself. The manager fails to get out of the building in time and get the number as Conan quickly gets on his [[Turbo Engine Skateboard]] to track the car down. The robber, realizing he's being followed brakes suddenly sending Conan skidding under a moving truck. Luckily Conan only receives a number of scratches and bruises on his body, but the skateboard loses a wheel in the incident, forcing Conan to continue his search on foot.

He picks up the signal again only to be surprised to find it leads him back to Beika Bank. Conan spots the robber and follows him across the street from the bank to a high-rise building. The robber meets with a man, later revealed to be the bank manager, only for both of them to be knocked out by Conan using the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] and a metal bucket. It is revealed that the robber stole under the bank manager's orders and they were going to split the money.

A TV broadcast later that night reports on the capture of the culprits and how they claim to have heard a voice before being knocked out. Ran comments that whoever captured the men is like a hero in a TV drama and wonders what they look like. Kogoro then makes a weird face and says "Like this!". Conan, overhearing and becoming irritated, puts a very spicy wasabi sauce on Kogoro's tuna when he isn't looking.

Conan poses a question to Kogoro, wondering why the client couldn't call the police to help.

Later, while walking around, Conan overhears Ootsuki having an interesting conversation on the phone regarding the painting to somebody. It seems that Ootsuki's collection isn't entirely collected through legitimate means, which prevents Ootsuki from involving the police. Conan then discovers a listening device under the couch Kogoro is napping on, causing him to ask Ootsuki's wife if any unexpected people dropped by in the past few days. The wife explains that a person from the gas company dropped by. After realizing the listening device was installed because Nero wasn't able to figure out where the "Angel's Bath" is hidden Conan uses the [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] to tell Nero the location and lure them out.

Later that night the lights cut off and Conan rushes towards the loft only to twist his ankle when Ootsuki steps on his foot and pushes him out of the way. Discovering Kogoro asleep at the foot of the ladder leading to the loft, Conan and Ootsuki go to a nearby room and discover an empty picture frame on the floor and a rope tied from the window to a tree. Ootsuki rushes back downstairs but Conan heads back towards the loft and finds himself face-to-face with Nero who had just retrieved the real painting. Although Nero's face is completely covered, the tight-fitting body suit reveals Nero to be a woman. Conan, unable to use the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] because of his ankle suddenly remembers the slingshot in his pocket, but before he uses it, Nero runs past him knocking Conan to the floor. Conan takes aim at the painting instead of Nero. Unable to allow the painting to be destroyed, Nero gives it up and escapes after asking Conan his name. Ootsuki is relieved to still have the painting until Conan as "Sleeping Kogoro" reveals the police have been informed of his wrongdoings.

Conan and Ran are attending a fancy dinner party at Sonoko's house when Sonoko walks over to talk to Ran about forgetting about waiting for Shinichi and to come with her to pick up cute guys at the party. As Sonoko says her plan aloud she is greeted by Nanbara: the "idiot son" of the head of XX Shuppan and a horrible person, according to Sonoko. Nanbara while carrying a wine glass forcibly leads Sonoko and Ran walking around with him so he can go make coffee when he comes across his friend Takechi who is carrying a case around with him and wearing gloves on his hands. Nanbara gloats about being surrounded by ladies when he trips and knocks the contents of his wine glass on Takechi.

Sonoko offers Takechi the use of the shower which he accepts. While Takechi cleans himself up Conan asks Nanbara why Takechi is wearing gloves and carrying the case. Nanbara explains Takechi's germophobic tendencies before excusing himself to retrieve coffee cups. Nanbara later makes coffee for Conan, Ran, Sonoko, himself, and Takechi. After Takechi adds sugar and cream to his coffee and takes a sip he collapses to the floor, dead. Once Megure arrives and reveals Takechi died from poison, Nanbara recalls that Takechi had been acting strange recently. The police then find a suicide note on Takechi's jacket, but Conan isn't convinced.

After discovering oddities about the note and Takechi's stirring spoon Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] on Sonoko and reveals Nanbara is responsible for the poisoning. Because Takechi prefers using his own items he was carrying a set of silverware in the case he was taking around with him. While Takechi was in the shower Nanbara spread poison on the spoon he knew Takechi would use for the coffee. Nanbara tricked Takechi into writing the suicide note by asking Takechi to write some notes down for him on a notepad while pretending to be on a phone call. As proof, Conan as Sonoko points out that Nanbara's handkerchief has ink imprints from the supposed suicide note on it.　Nanbara's motive was that he was in debt to Takechi and was unable to pay. Ran compliments Sonoko on her deductive reasoning and Sonoko claims she'll try even harder next time to snag a cute guy.

== The Missing Man ==

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro ride a bus to a [[wikipedia:Pension_(lodging)|pension]] for some rest and relaxation. On the journey, Ran, trying to feed Conan apple slices, accidentally stabs a bearded man in a parka with a fork after the bus goes on to some bumpy road. Ran apologizes and notices the man is bleeding, but he shouts at her that he's okay. Kogoro bickers with Ran regarding Conan constantly staying with them without paying any money. Ran argues back that Conan has brought him good luck in receiving and solving cases. Upon arriving at the pension, a man named Yamashita introduces himself to Kogoro. The man Ran stabbed earlier, Tanaka, leaves the main group carrying skis with him.

Later that night at dinner, the group notices Yamashita and Tanaka haven't come down yet. Ran and Conan go to get Yamashita from his room but find him dead on the floor with a knife in his back.

Conan and Kogoro search for clues as to the murderer and discover a bloody shirt and knife sheath in Tanaka's room. The entire group meets downstairs to discuss what to do, but it seems impossible to chase after Tanaka since there's a blizzard outside. Conan, looking at the serious face of Endou, one of the group members, notices an odd marking. Realizing the trick of how Tanaka disappeared, Conan comments on the marking of where a beard was glued on and points out the odd fork-like markings on the man's wrist.

'''Endou''', discovering Conan is responsible for his downfall, grabs a poker from near the stove and chases him with it until Ran uses her karate skills to knock him unconscious. As Endou is taken away by the police the next day, it is revealed that Endou killed Yamashita for stealing his girlfriend from him. Mitsuhiko shows off his wideband receiver to the other Detective Boys and explains how it is able to overhear phonecalls. When the group overhears a man receiving demands from his daughter's kidnapper, Conan and the Detective Boys set to work to stop him. The group listens carefully to the call for clues as the kidnapper threatens to kill the kidnapped Junko if his demands aren't met. Using the Electronic Notebook Map, Conan manages to narrow the search area to the distance the wideband receiver gets signals. Having overheard a train during the phone call, the group heads for the one spot in range where there are railroad tracks.

Realizing a miscalculation, Conan rushes to find the kidnapper who is watching Junko's father from a distance. As the kidnapper demands Junko's father to commit suicide, Conan uses the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] to slam a soccer ball into the kidnapper's face and stop Junko's father just in time. Genta picks up the wideband receiver only to overhear a phone call between his mother and Mitsuhiko's in which it seems both boys will be in trouble when they return home. Conan remarks that the life of an elementary schooler is rough.

Lead actress of the play "The Tail of a Comet" Michiru Ushio and her co-star Saeko Kusunoki are preparing in the dressing room for their next performance. Michiru comments to Saeko she's sorry that Saeko didn't get the lead part. Saeko claims to be okay but as Michiru leaves she comments to herself that Michiru is a thief for taking the role from her and that Michiru's performance will be her last. Meanwhile, the play begins as Ran, Conan, and Kogoro watch in the audience. As Michiru's scene ends, Saeko playing the role of a shining ghost takes her place as Ran comments that even though the lights are all off they can see Saeko's body is shining. As Saeko leaves the stage, Michiru goes back on with a wire harness to perform a flying scene. Saeko anxiously awaits for something to happen to Michiru during the flying scene, but much to her dismay, Michiru gets through the scene safely.

As Saeko's first plan to get rid of Michiru fails, she thinks to herself about her motive for doing so in the first place. Michiru managed to get the lead role because her father is the sponsor of the theater group. Saeko leaves the stage after her scene as Michiru goes back on for a solo scene. Saeko watches the scene from a screen backstage as Michiru performs until suddenly at the end of her scene, a massive light fixture falls on top of her.

Conan and Kogoro immediately leap into action, leaving Ran behind. Conan and Kogoro begin investigating backstage, discovering a crew member talking about the "stopper" used on the lights to keep them from moving. As the member explains, Conan discovers that the harness Michiru was flying in earlier was tampered with. As Conan points this out to Kogoro it becomes apparent that the light incident must not have been an accident, but rather a murder. The rest of the stage crew are puzzled as to how this could be since everyone was watching Michiru's scene on the video monitor backstage. As Kogoro tries to work it out, Conan discovers water on the ground by the pulley that holds the lights. The leader in charge of the stage production is about to shut down the production for good when Saeko steps forward claiming she can bravely do Michiru's role.

Conan messes around with the lights backstage afterwards to discover fluorescent paint on the floor right where the light fixture pulley is. He then tricks '''Saeko Kusunoki''' into going backstage with him and is able to point out to Kogoro that both the floor by the pulley and Saeko are still glowing from the fluorescent paint. It is then revealed that Saeko managed to set up the trick with the pulley using ice in order to provide herself with an alibi. As Conan and Kogoro leave the theater they are shocked to discover Ran has left a mass of destruction from her anger from being left behind.

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro are in attendance at movie director Nagira Oosawa's party for his latest hit movie. Oosawa gives a speech to the crowd with his wife Asako standing next to him as Conan overhears a few ladies in the crowd gossiping about Oosawa and Asako's relationship. Kogoro offers his thanks to Oosawa as Conan notices a man standing next to him wearing shoes with shiny rubber soles like rainboots. Conan, puzzled, asks the man if it's raining outside. The man gives Conan an excuse when all of a sudden Oosawa is seen loudly shouting at Asako for forgetting to bring his medicine to the party. Conan feels sorry for Asako until he realizes she oddly has a strange smile on her face as she look across the room at the man with the shoes Conan talked to earlier.

Later that night, Conan runs off for the bathroom only to discover water is covering the entire floor. While in the bathroom Conan discovers a cockroach scuttling across the floor behind him when Oosawa comes in to the bathroom as well. Conan washes his hands when all of a sudden Oosawa clutches his chest and falls to the ground dead.

Conan gets help and as Kogoro and the crowd try to calm Asako down, Conan discovers the cockroach from earlier on the bathroom floor dead as well. Over by the drain on the floor, Conan notices odd specks and, thanks to Kogoro's unwilling help, discovers the specks to be salt. Continuing to investigate the bathroom, Conan spots a toilet with electronic settings plugged in to a wall and that at the bottom of Oosawa's outfit there are odd strands of gold thread near his feet.

Putting the clues together, Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] on Kogoro and the [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] to reveal that the man with the rubber soles ''and'' Asako are responsible for Oosawa's death. The man with the rubber soles electrified the floor of the bathroom using the super conductive salty water while Asako, who had been having an affair with the man, had attached the gold thread to Oosawa's clothing to ensure he would be electrocuted.

== Haunted Building ==

Genta tells Conan, Mitsuhiko, and Ayumi a story about a abandoned skyscraper in Beika [[wikipedia:Japanese_addressing_system|4-chōme]] where the ghost of the building's owner who committed suicide is said to be seen in one of the building's windows. Mitsuhiko dismisses the story as nonsense, irritating Genta. Ayumi suggests that the group should go check out to see if the story is for real or not. The following day, the Detective Boys manage to sneak in to the building carrying flashlights. Conan asks the group how on Earth they plan on proving if they see a real ghost or not and the other members reveal they have brought hand mirror [[wikipedia:Omamori|omamoris]]. The Detective Boys explore the building and find no ghosts, but get spooked by strange sounds and lights until Conan points out the sounds are simply wind blowing through the air duct system and neon signs glowing through the open windows.

As Conan peers out one of the windows, he discovers that the building still has more floors to explore above even though the group hadn't come across a staircase leading to the next level. The group manages to discover a ladder in the elevator shaft leading to the next floor and they follow it up. While exploring the new floor the group is startled by the sound of a phone echoing throughout the area. As Conan tracks down the source of the sound, they discover the ringing came from a cell phone lying next to a bloodied corpse. As Ayumi clutches her mirror in front of her using it as a protective amulet she is shocked to discover someone else's reflection above her own. The group turns around to discover the ragged looking man responsible for killing the person on the floor. The man then chases the group with a long pipe in an attempt to kill them, leaving Genta, Ayumi, and Mitsuhiko to become separated from Conan. Conan manages to hold the man's attention away from the other kids and attempts to use the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] only for them to fail. Without any protection, Conan dodges the man's attacks and cuts off his flashlight. The man in an attempt to see where Conan is manages to create a torch. The man spots Conan and charges only to fall into the elevator shaft and falls unconscious. Conan tricked the man using the mirror in his pocket he had picked up from Ayumi earlier and had attached it to the wire of the elevator's pulley system. The murderer is revealed to be none other than the building owner that had been rumored to have hanged himself. The owner had been hiding from debt collectors which eventually led to the owner getting neurosis. The murder victim was somebody who was also curious about the rumors and went to see the ghost for himself only to be mistaken for being a debt collector so the owner killed him. The police bring the owner to justice and as the group is scolded by their mothers and Ran for going out to a dangerous place without permission, Conan jokingly remarks how the omamori won't be able to protect him from Ran.

Ran and Conan go snorkeling while Kogoro relaxes on a beach only to find a corpse with a heavy weight attached to her feet floating in the shallow water. The corpse is revealed to be Mitsuko Sekine after being identified by one of her friends. The local doctor, Tanaka, is surprised to find out Kogoro is a detective and claims that Mitsuko committed suicide. Tanaka gives a valid reason for how she did but Conan seems uneasy about the doctor's reasoning.

Mitsuko's friend calls Tanaka a murderer as he leaves the scene and she reveals that Mitsuko and Tanaka had been seeing eachother until Tanaka broke up with her after becoming engaged to the daughter of a major hospital. Kogoro tries to confront Tanaka and pin the murder of Mitsuko on him but Tanaka reveals he has a solid alibi. Conan then rushes to the beach in order to look for clues when he discovers an old man who explains that trash from the ocean tends to end up in front of his shack because of the currents. In the pile of trash, Conan discovers an intertube with a small hole punctured in the side and then sets to work figuring out where the murderer originally dropped the body in the water. By conducting an experiment in which he throws a bunch of water bottles into the ocean at random places, Conan is able to figure out how Tanaka set up his alibi and commit the murder.

Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] and [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] on Kogoro to reveal his deduction. Conan explains that Tanaka drugged Mitsuko, placed her in the ring of the intertube, made a small hole, and then set her adrift in the ocean. The air escaped from the intertube slowly and the currents carried Mitsuko far away so that Tanaka was able to create his alibi. To further prove Tanaka's guilt, Conan points out that the knot of rope that was around Mitsuko's ankles is facing the wrong direction of what it should be if Mitsuko had tied the rope herself to commit suicide. Tanaka is then caught as Kogoro, Conan, and Ran wrap up their vacation by eating [[wikipedia:Kakigōri|kakigōri]].

Conan is waiting for his turn to speak to a teller at Beika Bank when he spots a male worker looking for the branch manager of the bank. The manager seems distracted however and glances at his watch. A black car pulls up outside the bank and a man comes out just as Conan's turn is up. The man waves a gun around, demanding the bank fill his money bag. Spotting the manager, the man tosses him the bag to fill it up. While the robber's back is turned a security officer attempts to sneak up behind the robber only for the manager to speak up, causing the sneak attack to fail.

Determined to stop the robber from getting away, Conan manages to put a tracking sticker on the robber's money bag but is caught in the process. The robber holds a gun at Conan's face only to suddenly remark "Time is up" and runs away. A teller shouts that they need to get the robber's license plate number when the manager suddenly volunteers to do the job himself. The manager fails to get out of the building in time and get the number as Conan quickly gets on his [[Turbo Engine Skateboard]] to track the car down. The robber, realizing he's being followed brakes suddenly sending Conan skidding under a moving truck. Luckily Conan only receives a number of scratches and bruises on his body, but the skateboard loses a wheel in the incident, forcing Conan to continue his search on foot.

He picks up the signal again only to be surprised to find it leads him back to Beika Bank. Conan spots the robber and follows him across the street from the bank to a high-rise building. The robber meets with a man, later revealed to be the bank manager, only for both of them to be knocked out by Conan using the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] and a metal bucket. It is revealed that the robber stole under the bank manager's orders and they were going to split the money.

A TV broadcast later that night reports on the capture of the culprits and how they claim to have heard a voice before being knocked out. Ran comments that whoever captured the men is like a hero in a TV drama and wonders what they look like. Kogoro then makes a weird face and says "Like this!". Conan, overhearing and becoming irritated, puts a very spicy wasabi sauce on Kogoro's tuna when he isn't looking.

== Masterpiece Thief ==

Conan is reading a newspaper article about how a thief known as Kaitou Nero has struck again, stealing a masterpiece painting and continuing to elude police. Kogoro makes a comment that given the chance he would catch the thief after just one try. A female client then arrives at the agency with a manifesto from Kaitou Nero saying that they will steal the {{nihongo|"Angel's Bath"|天使の沐浴|Tenshi no mokuyoku}} tonight. The client mentions that she and her husband are unable to involve the police in this matter so Kogoro accepts the case. As Conan pulls a slingshot out of his pocket he remembers that he promised to hang out with the Detective Boys that day. He decides to follow Kogoro to the client's house instead.

At the house, Kogoro and Conan meet the painting's current owner, the Ootsuki Trade President Fumitaka Ootsuki, and discover he has quite an extensive collection of fine art throughout the building. The "Angel's Bath" is stored in a loft type room of the house that is only accessible via the press of a button on a remote control carried by Ootsuki. Ootsuki rushes back downstairs but Conan heads back towards the loft and finds himself face-to-face with Nero who had just retrieved the real painting. Although Nero's face is completely covered, the tight-fitting body suit reveals Nero to be a woman. Conan, unable to use the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] because of his ankle suddenly remembers the slingshot in his pocket, but before he uses it, Nero runs past him knocking Conan to the floor. Conan takes aim at the painting instead of Nero. Unable to allow the painting to be destroyed, Nero gives it up and escapes after asking Conan his name. Ootsuki is relieved to still have the painting until Conan as "Sleeping Kogoro" reveals the police have been informed of his wrongdoings.

Conan and Ran are attending a fancy dinner party at Sonoko's house when Sonoko walks over to talk to Ran about forgetting about waiting for Shinichi and to come with her to pick up cute guys at the party. As Sonoko says her plan aloud she is greeted by Nanbara: the "idiot son" of the head of XX Shuppan and a horrible person, according to Sonoko. Nanbara while carrying a wine glass forcibly leads Sonoko and Ran walking around with him so he can go make coffee when he comes across his friend Takechi who is carrying a case around with him and wearing gloves on his hands. Nanbara gloats about being surrounded by ladies when he trips and knocks the contents of his wine glass on Takechi.

Sonoko offers Takechi the use of the shower which he accepts. While Takechi cleans himself up Conan asks Nanbara why Takechi is wearing gloves and carrying the case. Nanbara explains Takechi's germophobic tendencies before excusing himself to retrieve coffee cups. Nanbara later makes coffee for Conan, Ran, Sonoko, himself, and Takechi. After Takechi adds sugar and cream to his coffee and takes a sip he collapses to the floor, dead. Once Megure arrives and reveals Takechi died from poison, Nanbara recalls that Takechi had been acting strange recently. The police then find a suicide note on Takechi's jacket, but Conan isn't convinced.

After discovering oddities about the note and Takechi's stirring spoon Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] on Sonoko and reveals Nanbara is responsible for the poisoning. Because Takechi prefers using his own items he was carrying a set of silverware in the case he was taking around with him. While Takechi was in the shower Nanbara spread poison on the spoon he knew Takechi would use for the coffee. Nanbara tricked Takechi into writing the suicide note by asking Takechi to write some notes down for him on a notepad while pretending to be on a phone call. As proof, Conan as Sonoko points out that Nanbara's handkerchief has ink imprints from the supposed suicide note on it.　Nanbara's motive was that he was in debt to Takechi and was unable to pay. Ran compliments Sonoko on her deductive reasoning and Sonoko claims she'll try even harder next time to snag a cute guy.

== The Missing Man ==

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro ride a bus to a [[wikipedia:Pension_(lodging)|pension]] for some rest and relaxation. On the journey, Ran, trying to feed Conan apple slices, accidentally stabs a bearded man in a parka with a fork after the bus goes on to some bumpy road. Ran apologizes and notices the man is bleeding, but he shouts at her that he's okay. Kogoro bickers with Ran regarding Conan constantly staying with them without paying any money. Ran argues back that Conan has brought him good luck in receiving and solving cases. Upon arriving at the pension, a man named Yamashita introduces himself to Kogoro. The man Ran stabbed earlier, Tanaka, leaves the main group carrying skis with him.

Later that night at dinner, the group notices Yamashita and Tanaka haven't come down yet. Ran and Conan go to get Yamashita from his room but find him dead on the floor with a knife in his back.

Conan and Kogoro search for clues as to the murderer and discover a bloody shirt and knife sheath in Tanaka's room. The entire group meets downstairs to discuss what to do, but it seems impossible to chase after Tanaka since there's a blizzard outside. Conan, looking at the serious face of Endou, one of the group members, notices an odd marking. Realizing the trick of how Tanaka disappeared, Conan comments on the marking of where a beard was glued on and points out the odd fork-like markings on the man's wrist.

Mitsuhiko shows off his wideband receiver to the other Detective Boys and explains how it is able to overhear phonecalls. When the group overhears a man receiving demands from his daughter's kidnapper, Conan and the Detective Boys set to work to stop him. The group listens carefully to the call for clues as the kidnapper threatens to kill the kidnapped Junko if his demands aren't met. Using the Electronic Notebook Map, Conan manages to narrow the search area to the distance the wideband receiver gets signals. Having overheard a train during the phone call, the group heads for the one spot in range where there are railroad tracks.

Realizing a miscalculation, Conan rushes to find the kidnapper who is watching Junko's father from a distance. As the kidnapper demands Junko's father to commit suicide, Conan uses the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] to slam a soccer ball into the kidnapper's face and stop Junko's father just in time. Genta picks up the wideband receiver only to overhear a phone call between his mother and Mitsuhiko's in which it seems both boys will be in trouble when they return home. Conan remarks that the life of an elementary schooler is rough.

Lead actress of the play "The Tail of a Comet" Michiru Ushio and her co-star Saeko Kusunoki are preparing in the dressing room for their next performance. Michiru comments to Saeko she's sorry that Saeko didn't get the lead part. Saeko claims to be okay but as Michiru leaves she comments to herself that Michiru is a thief for taking the role from her and that Michiru's performance will be her last. Meanwhile, the play begins as Ran, Conan, and Kogoro watch in the audience. As Michiru's scene ends, Saeko playing the role of a shining ghost takes her place as Ran comments that even though the lights are all off they can see Saeko's body is shining. As Saeko leaves the stage, Michiru goes back on with a wire harness to perform a flying scene. Saeko anxiously awaits for something to happen to Michiru during the flying scene, but much to her dismay, Michiru gets through the scene safely.

As Saeko's first plan to get rid of Michiru fails, she thinks to herself about her motive for doing so in the first place. Michiru managed to get the lead role because her father is the sponsor of the theater group. Saeko leaves the stage after her scene as Michiru goes back on for a solo scene. Saeko watches the scene from a screen backstage as Michiru performs until suddenly at the end of her scene, a massive light fixture falls on top of her.

Conan and Kogoro immediately leap into action, leaving Ran behind. Conan and Kogoro begin investigating backstage, discovering a crew member talking about the "stopper" used on the lights to keep them from moving. As the member explains, Conan discovers that the harness Michiru was flying in earlier was tampered with. As Conan points this out to Kogoro it becomes apparent that the light incident must not have been an accident, but rather a murder. The rest of the stage crew are puzzled as to how this could be since everyone was watching Michiru's scene on the video monitor backstage. As Kogoro tries to work it out, Conan discovers water on the ground by the pulley that holds the lights. The leader in charge of the stage production is about to shut down the production for good when Saeko steps forward claiming she can bravely do Michiru's role.

He then tricks '''Saeko Kusunoki''' into going backstage with him and is able to point out to Kogoro that both the floor by the pulley and Saeko are still glowing from the fluorescent paint. It is then revealed that Saeko managed to set up the trick with the pulley using ice in order to provide herself with an alibi. As Conan and Kogoro leave the theater they are shocked to discover Ran has left a mass of destruction from her anger from being left behind.

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro are in attendance at movie director Nagira Oosawa's party for his latest hit movie. Oosawa gives a speech to the crowd with his wife Asako standing next to him as Conan overhears a few ladies in the crowd gossiping about Oosawa and Asako's relationship. Kogoro offers his thanks to Oosawa as Conan notices a man standing next to him wearing shoes with shiny rubber soles like rainboots. Conan, puzzled, asks the man if it's raining outside. The man gives Conan an excuse when all of a sudden Oosawa is seen loudly shouting at Asako for forgetting to bring his medicine to the party. Conan feels sorry for Asako until he realizes she oddly has a strange smile on her face as she look across the room at the man with the shoes Conan talked to earlier.

Later that night, Conan runs off for the bathroom only to discover water is covering the entire floor. While in the bathroom Conan discovers a cockroach scuttling across the floor behind him when Oosawa comes in to the bathroom as well. Conan washes his hands when all of a sudden Oosawa clutches his chest and falls to the ground dead. Conan gets help and as Kogoro and the crowd try to calm Asako down, Conan discovers the cockroach from earlier on the bathroom floor dead as well. Over by the drain on the floor, Conan notices odd specks and, thanks to Kogoro's unwilling help, discovers the specks to be salt. Continuing to investigate the bathroom, Conan spots a toilet with electronic settings plugged in to a wall and that at the bottom of Oosawa's outfit there are odd strands of gold thread near his feet.

Putting the clues together, Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] on Kogoro and the [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] to reveal that the man with the rubber soles ''and'' Asako are responsible for Oosawa's death. The man with the rubber soles electrified the floor of the bathroom using the super conductive salty water while Asako, who had been having an affair with the man, had attached the gold thread to Oosawa's clothing to ensure he would be electrocuted.

== Haunted Building ==

Genta tells Conan, Mitsuhiko, and Ayumi a story about a abandoned skyscraper in Beika [[wikipedia:Japanese_addressing_system|4-chōme]] where the ghost of the building's owner who committed suicide is said to be seen in one of the building's windows. Mitsuhiko dismisses the story as nonsense, irritating Genta. Ayumi suggests that the group should go check out to see if the story is for real or not. The following day, the Detective Boys manage to sneak in to the building carrying flashlights. Conan asks the group how on Earth they plan on proving if they see a real ghost or not and the other members reveal they have brought hand mirror [[wikipedia:Omamori|omamoris]]. The Detective Boys explore the building and find no ghosts, but get spooked by strange sounds and lights until Conan points out the sounds are simply wind blowing through the air duct system and neon signs glowing through the open windows.

As Conan peers out one of the windows, he discovers that the building still has more floors to explore above even though the group hadn't come across a staircase leading to the next level. The group manages to discover a ladder in the elevator shaft leading to the next floor and they follow it up. While exploring the new floor the group is startled by the sound of a phone echoing throughout the area. As Conan tracks down the source of the sound, they discover the ringing came from a cell phone lying next to a bloodied corpse. As Ayumi clutches her mirror in front of her using it as a protective amulet she is shocked to discover someone else's reflection above her own. The group turns around to discover the ragged looking man responsible for killing the person on the floor. The man then chases the group with a long pipe in an attempt to kill them, leaving Genta, Ayumi, and Mitsuhiko to become separated from Conan. Conan manages to hold the man's attention away from the other kids and attempts to use the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] only for them to fail. Without any protection, Conan dodges the man's attacks and cuts off his flashlight. The man in an attempt to see where Conan is manages to create a torch. The man spots Conan and charges only to fall into the elevator shaft and falls unconscious. Conan tricked the man using the mirror in his pocket he had picked up from Ayumi earlier and had attached it to the wire of the elevator's pulley system. The murderer is revealed to be none other than the building owner that had been rumored to have hanged himself. The owner had been hiding from debt collectors which eventually led to the owner getting neurosis. The murder victim was somebody who was also curious about the rumors and went to see the ghost for himself only to be mistaken for being a debt collector so the owner killed him. The police bring the owner to justice and as the group is scolded by their mothers and Ran for going out to a dangerous place without permission, Conan jokingly remarks how the omamori won't be able to protect him from Ran.

Ran and Conan go snorkeling while Kogoro relaxes on a beach only to find a corpse with a heavy weight attached to her feet floating in the shallow water. The corpse is revealed to be Mitsuko Sekine after being identified by one of her friends. The local doctor, Tanaka, is surprised to find out Kogoro is a detective and claims that Mitsuko committed suicide. Tanaka gives a valid reason for how she did but Conan seems uneasy about the doctor's reasoning.

Mitsuko's friend calls Tanaka a murderer as he leaves the scene and she reveals that Mitsuko and Tanaka had been seeing eachother until Tanaka broke up with her after becoming engaged to the daughter of a major hospital. Kogoro tries to confront Tanaka and pin the murder of Mitsuko on him but Tanaka reveals he has a solid alibi. Conan then rushes to the beach in order to look for clues when he discovers an old man who explains that trash from the ocean tends to end up in front of his shack because of the currents. In the pile of trash, Conan discovers an intertube with a small hole punctured in the side and then sets to work figuring out where the murderer originally dropped the body in the water. By conducting an experiment in which he throws a bunch of water bottles into the ocean at random places, Conan is able to figure out how Tanaka set up his alibi and commit the murder.

Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] and [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] on Kogoro to reveal his deduction. Conan explains that Tanaka drugged Mitsuko, placed her in the ring of the intertube, made a small hole, and then set her adrift in the ocean. The air escaped from the intertube slowly and the currents carried Mitsuko far away so that Tanaka was able to create his alibi. To further prove Tanaka's guilt, Conan points out that the knot of rope that was around Mitsuko's ankles is facing the wrong direction of what it should be if Mitsuko had tied the rope herself to commit suicide. Tanaka is then caught as Kogoro, Conan, and Ran wrap up their vacation by eating [[wikipedia:Kakigōri|kakigōri]].

== Bank Robbery ==

Conan is waiting for his turn to speak to a teller at Beika Bank when he spots a male worker looking for the branch manager of the bank. The manager seems distracted however and glances at his watch. A black car pulls up outside the bank and a man comes out just as Conan's turn is up. The man waves a gun around, demanding the bank fill his money bag. Spotting the manager, the man tosses him the bag to fill it up. While the robber's back is turned a security officer attempts to sneak up behind the robber only for the manager to speak up, causing the sneak attack to fail.

Determined to stop the robber from getting away, Conan manages to put a tracking sticker on the robber's money bag but is caught in the process. The robber holds a gun at Conan's face only to suddenly remark "Time is up" and runs away. A teller shouts that they need to get the robber's license plate number when the manager suddenly volunteers to do the job himself. The manager fails to get out of the building in time and get the number as Conan quickly gets on his [[Turbo Engine Skateboard]] to track the car down. The robber, realizing he's being followed brakes suddenly sending Conan skidding under a moving truck. Luckily Conan only receives a number of scratches and bruises on his body, but the skateboard loses a wheel in the incident, forcing Conan to continue his search on foot.

He picks up the signal again only to be surprised to find it leads him back to Beika Bank. Conan spots the robber and follows him across the street from the bank to a high-rise building. The robber meets with a man, later revealed to be the bank manager, only for both of them to be knocked out by Conan using the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] and a metal bucket. It is revealed that the robber stole under the bank manager's orders and they were going to split the money.

A TV broadcast later that night reports on the capture of the culprits and how they claim to have heard a voice before being knocked out. Ran comments that whoever captured the men is like a hero in a TV drama and wonders what they look like. Kogoro then makes a weird face and says "Like this!". Conan, overhearing and becoming irritated, puts a very spicy wasabi sauce on Kogoro's tuna when he isn't looking.

== Masterpiece Thief ==

Conan is reading a newspaper article about how a thief known as Kaitou Nero has struck again, stealing a masterpiece painting and continuing to elude police. Kogoro makes a comment that given the chance he would catch the thief after just one try. A female client then arrives at the agency with a manifesto from Kaitou Nero saying that they will steal the {{nihongo|"Angel's Bath"|天使の沐浴|Tenshi no mokuyoku}} tonight. The client mentions that she and her husband are unable to involve the police in this matter so Kogoro accepts the case. As Conan pulls a slingshot out of his pocket he remembers that he promised to hang out with the Detective Boys that day. He decides to follow Kogoro to the client's house instead.

At the house, Kogoro and Conan meet the painting's current owner, the Ootsuki Trade President Fumitaka Ootsuki, and discover he has quite an extensive collection of fine art throughout the building. The "Angel's Bath" is stored in a loft type room of the house that is only accessible via the press of a button on a remote control carried by Ootsuki. Conan poses a question to Kogoro, wondering why the client couldn't call the police to help.

Later, while walking around, Conan overhears Ootsuki having an interesting conversation on the phone regarding the painting to somebody. It seems that Ootsuki's collection isn't entirely collected through legitimate means, which prevents Ootsuki from involving the police. Conan then discovers a listening device under the couch Kogoro is napping on, causing him to ask Ootsuki's wife if any unexpected people dropped by in the past few days. The wife explains that a person from the gas company dropped by. After realizing the listening device was installed because Nero wasn't able to figure out where the "Angel's Bath" is hidden Conan uses the [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] to tell Nero the location and lure them out.

Later that night the lights cut off and Conan rushes towards the loft only to twist his ankle when Ootsuki steps on his foot and pushes him out of the way. Discovering Kogoro asleep at the foot of the ladder leading to the loft, Conan and Ootsuki go to a nearby room and discover an empty picture frame on the floor and a rope tied from the window to a tree. Conan and Ran are attending a fancy dinner party at Sonoko's house when Sonoko walks over to talk to Ran about forgetting about waiting for Shinichi and to come with her to pick up cute guys at the party. As Sonoko says her plan aloud she is greeted by Nanbara: the "idiot son" of the head of XX Shuppan and a horrible person, according to Sonoko. Nanbara while carrying a wine glass forcibly leads Sonoko and Ran walking around with him so he can go make coffee when he comes across his friend Takechi who is carrying a case around with him and wearing gloves on his hands. Nanbara gloats about being surrounded by ladies when he trips and knocks the contents of his wine glass on Takechi.

Sonoko offers Takechi the use of the shower which he accepts. While Takechi cleans himself up Conan asks Nanbara why Takechi is wearing gloves and carrying the case. Nanbara explains Takechi's germophobic tendencies before excusing himself to retrieve coffee cups. Nanbara later makes coffee for Conan, Ran, Sonoko, himself, and Takechi. After Takechi adds sugar and cream to his coffee and takes a sip he collapses to the floor, dead. Once Megure arrives and reveals Takechi died from poison, Nanbara recalls that Takechi had been acting strange recently. The police then find a suicide note on Takechi's jacket, but Conan isn't convinced.

After discovering oddities about the note and Takechi's stirring spoon Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] on Sonoko and reveals Nanbara is responsible for the poisoning. Because Takechi prefers using his own items he was carrying a set of silverware in the case he was taking around with him. While Takechi was in the shower Nanbara spread poison on the spoon he knew Takechi would use for the coffee. Nanbara tricked Takechi into writing the suicide note by asking Takechi to write some notes down for him on a notepad while pretending to be on a phone call. As proof, Conan as Sonoko points out that Nanbara's handkerchief has ink imprints from the supposed suicide note on it.　Nanbara's motive was that he was in debt to Takechi and was unable to pay. Ran compliments Sonoko on her deductive reasoning and Sonoko claims she'll try even harder next time to snag a cute guy.

== The Missing Man ==

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro ride a bus to a [[wikipedia:Pension_(lodging)|pension]] for some rest and relaxation. On the journey, Ran, trying to feed Conan apple slices, accidentally stabs a bearded man in a parka with a fork after the bus goes on to some bumpy road. Ran apologizes and notices the man is bleeding, but he shouts at her that he's okay. Kogoro bickers with Ran regarding Conan constantly staying with them without paying any money. Ran argues back that Conan has brought him good luck in receiving and solving cases. Upon arriving at the pension, a man named Yamashita introduces himself to Kogoro. The man Ran stabbed earlier, Tanaka, leaves the main group carrying skis with him.

Later that night at dinner, the group notices Yamashita and Tanaka haven't come down yet. Ran and Conan go to get Yamashita from his room but find him dead on the floor with a knife in his back.

Conan and Kogoro search for clues as to the murderer and discover a bloody shirt and knife sheath in Tanaka's room. The entire group meets downstairs to discuss what to do, but it seems impossible to chase after Tanaka since there's a blizzard outside. Conan, looking at the serious face of Endou, one of the group members, notices an odd marking. Realizing the trick of how Tanaka disappeared, Conan comments on the marking of where a beard was glued on and points out the odd fork-like markings on the man's wrist.

'''Endou''', discovering Conan is responsible for his downfall, grabs a poker from near the stove and chases him with it until Ran uses her karate skills to knock him unconscious. As Endou is taken away by the police the next day, it is revealed that Endou killed Yamashita for stealing his girlfriend from him. The story ends with Kogoro gloating about another successful case and Conan wishing to himself to get his body back.

Mitsuhiko shows off his wideband receiver to the other Detective Boys and explains how it is able to overhear phonecalls. When the group overhears a man receiving demands from his daughter's kidnapper, Conan and the Detective Boys set to work to stop him. The group listens carefully to the call for clues as the kidnapper threatens to kill the kidnapped Junko if his demands aren't met. Using the Electronic Notebook Map, Conan manages to narrow the search area to the distance the wideband receiver gets signals. Having overheard a train during the phone call, the group heads for the one spot in range where there are railroad tracks.

Realizing a miscalculation, Conan rushes to find the kidnapper who is watching Junko's father from a distance. As the kidnapper demands Junko's father to commit suicide, Conan uses the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] to slam a soccer ball into the kidnapper's face and stop Junko's father just in time. Genta picks up the wideband receiver only to overhear a phone call between his mother and Mitsuhiko's in which it seems both boys will be in trouble when they return home. Conan remarks that the life of an elementary schooler is rough.

== Murderous Intent ==

Lead actress of the play "The Tail of a Comet" Michiru Ushio and her co-star Saeko Kusunoki are preparing in the dressing room for their next performance. Michiru comments to Saeko she's sorry that Saeko didn't get the lead part. Saeko claims to be okay but as Michiru leaves she comments to herself that Michiru is a thief for taking the role from her and that Michiru's performance will be her last. Meanwhile, the play begins as Ran, Conan, and Kogoro watch in the audience. As Michiru's scene ends, Saeko playing the role of a shining ghost takes her place as Ran comments that even though the lights are all off they can see Saeko's body is shining. As Saeko leaves the stage, Michiru goes back on with a wire harness to perform a flying scene. Saeko anxiously awaits for something to happen to Michiru during the flying scene, but much to her dismay, Michiru gets through the scene safely.

As Saeko's first plan to get rid of Michiru fails, she thinks to herself about her motive for doing so in the first place. Michiru managed to get the lead role because her father is the sponsor of the theater group. Saeko leaves the stage after her scene as Michiru goes back on for a solo scene. Saeko watches the scene from a screen backstage as Michiru performs until suddenly at the end of her scene, a massive light fixture falls on top of her.

Conan and Kogoro immediately leap into action, leaving Ran behind. Conan and Kogoro begin investigating backstage, discovering a crew member talking about the "stopper" used on the lights to keep them from moving. As the member explains, Conan discovers that the harness Michiru was flying in earlier was tampered with. As Conan points this out to Kogoro it becomes apparent that the light incident must not have been an accident, but rather a murder. The rest of the stage crew are puzzled as to how this could be since everyone was watching Michiru's scene on the video monitor backstage. As Kogoro tries to work it out, Conan discovers water on the ground by the pulley that holds the lights. The leader in charge of the stage production is about to shut down the production for good when Saeko steps forward claiming she can bravely do Michiru's role.

Conan messes around with the lights backstage afterwards to discover fluorescent paint on the floor right where the light fixture pulley is. He then tricks '''Saeko Kusunoki''' into going backstage with him and is able to point out to Kogoro that both the floor by the pulley and Saeko are still glowing from the fluorescent paint. It is then revealed that Saeko managed to set up the trick with the pulley using ice in order to provide herself with an alibi. As Conan and Kogoro leave the theater they are shocked to discover Ran has left a mass of destruction from her anger from being left behind.

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro are in attendance at movie director Nagira Oosawa's party for his latest hit movie. Oosawa gives a speech to the crowd with his wife Asako standing next to him as Conan overhears a few ladies in the crowd gossiping about Oosawa and Asako's relationship. Kogoro offers his thanks to Oosawa as Conan notices a man standing next to him wearing shoes with shiny rubber soles like rainboots. Conan, puzzled, asks the man if it's raining outside. The man gives Conan an excuse when all of a sudden Oosawa is seen loudly shouting at Asako for forgetting to bring his medicine to the party. Conan feels sorry for Asako until he realizes she oddly has a strange smile on her face as she look across the room at the man with the shoes Conan talked to earlier.

Later that night, Conan runs off for the bathroom only to discover water is covering the entire floor. While in the bathroom Conan discovers a cockroach scuttling across the floor behind him when Oosawa comes in to the bathroom as well. Conan washes his hands when all of a sudden Oosawa clutches his chest and falls to the ground dead. Conan gets help and as Kogoro and the crowd try to calm Asako down, Conan discovers the cockroach from earlier on the bathroom floor dead as well. Over by the drain on the floor, Conan notices odd specks and, thanks to Kogoro's unwilling help, discovers the specks to be salt. Continuing to investigate the bathroom, Conan spots a toilet with electronic settings plugged in to a wall and that at the bottom of Oosawa's outfit there are odd strands of gold thread near his feet.

Putting the clues together, Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] on Kogoro and the [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] to reveal that the man with the rubber soles ''and'' Asako are responsible for Oosawa's death. The man with the rubber soles electrified the floor of the bathroom using the super conductive salty water while Asako, who had been having an affair with the man, had attached the gold thread to Oosawa's clothing to ensure he would be electrocuted.

Genta tells Conan, Mitsuhiko, and Ayumi a story about a abandoned skyscraper in Beika [[wikipedia:Japanese_addressing_system|4-chōme]] where the ghost of the building's owner who committed suicide is said to be seen in one of the building's windows. Mitsuhiko dismisses the story as nonsense, irritating Genta. Ayumi suggests that the group should go check out to see if the story is for real or not. The following day, the Detective Boys manage to sneak in to the building carrying flashlights. Conan asks the group how on Earth they plan on proving if they see a real ghost or not and the other members reveal they have brought hand mirror [[wikipedia:Omamori|omamoris]]. The Detective Boys explore the building and find no ghosts, but get spooked by strange sounds and lights until Conan points out the sounds are simply wind blowing through the air duct system and neon signs glowing through the open windows.

As Conan peers out one of the windows, he discovers that the building still has more floors to explore above even though the group hadn't come across a staircase leading to the next level. The group manages to discover a ladder in the elevator shaft leading to the next floor and they follow it up. While exploring the new floor the group is startled by the sound of a phone echoing throughout the area. As Conan tracks down the source of the sound, they discover the ringing came from a cell phone lying next to a bloodied corpse. As Ayumi clutches her mirror in front of her using it as a protective amulet she is shocked to discover someone else's reflection above her own. The group turns around to discover the ragged looking man responsible for killing the person on the floor. The man then chases the group with a long pipe in an attempt to kill them, leaving Genta, Ayumi, and Mitsuhiko to become separated from Conan. Conan manages to hold the man's attention away from the other kids and attempts to use the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] only for them to fail. Without any protection, Conan dodges the man's attacks and cuts off his flashlight. The man in an attempt to see where Conan is manages to create a torch. The man spots Conan and charges only to fall into the elevator shaft and falls unconscious. Conan tricked the man using the mirror in his pocket he had picked up from Ayumi earlier and had attached it to the wire of the elevator's pulley system. The murderer is revealed to be none other than the building owner that had been rumored to have hanged himself. The owner had been hiding from debt collectors which eventually led to the owner getting neurosis. The murder victim was somebody who was also curious about the rumors and went to see the ghost for himself only to be mistaken for being a debt collector so the owner killed him. The police bring the owner to justice and as the group is scolded by their mothers and Ran for going out to a dangerous place without permission, Conan jokingly remarks how the omamori won't be able to protect him from Ran.

Ran and Conan go snorkeling while Kogoro relaxes on a beach only to find a corpse with a heavy weight attached to her feet floating in the shallow water. The corpse is revealed to be Mitsuko Sekine after being identified by one of her friends. The local doctor, Tanaka, is surprised to find out Kogoro is a detective and claims that Mitsuko committed suicide. Tanaka gives a valid reason for how she did but Conan seems uneasy about the doctor's reasoning.

Mitsuko's friend calls Tanaka a murderer as he leaves the scene and she reveals that Mitsuko and Tanaka had been seeing eachother until Tanaka broke up with her after becoming engaged to the daughter of a major hospital. Kogoro tries to confront Tanaka and pin the murder of Mitsuko on him but Tanaka reveals he has a solid alibi. Conan then rushes to the beach in order to look for clues when he discovers an old man who explains that trash from the ocean tends to end up in front of his shack because of the currents. In the pile of trash, Conan discovers an intertube with a small hole punctured in the side and then sets to work figuring out where the murderer originally dropped the body in the water. By conducting an experiment in which he throws a bunch of water bottles into the ocean at random places, Conan is able to figure out how Tanaka set up his alibi and commit the murder.

Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] and [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] on Kogoro to reveal his deduction. Conan explains that Tanaka drugged Mitsuko, placed her in the ring of the intertube, made a small hole, and then set her adrift in the ocean. The air escaped from the intertube slowly and the currents carried Mitsuko far away so that Tanaka was able to create his alibi. To further prove Tanaka's guilt, Conan points out that the knot of rope that was around Mitsuko's ankles is facing the wrong direction of what it should be if Mitsuko had tied the rope herself to commit suicide. Tanaka is then caught as Kogoro, Conan, and Ran wrap up their vacation by eating [[wikipedia:Kakigōri|kakigōri]].

== Bank Robbery ==

Conan is waiting for his turn to speak to a teller at Beika Bank when he spots a male worker looking for the branch manager of the bank. The manager seems distracted however and glances at his watch. A black car pulls up outside the bank and a man comes out just as Conan's turn is up. The man waves a gun around, demanding the bank fill his money bag. Spotting the manager, the man tosses him the bag to fill it up. While the robber's back is turned a security officer attempts to sneak up behind the robber only for the manager to speak up, causing the sneak attack to fail.

Determined to stop the robber from getting away, Conan manages to put a tracking sticker on the robber's money bag but is caught in the process. The robber holds a gun at Conan's face only to suddenly remark "Time is up" and runs away. A teller shouts that they need to get the robber's license plate number when the manager suddenly volunteers to do the job himself. The manager fails to get out of the building in time and get the number as Conan quickly gets on his [[Turbo Engine Skateboard]] to track the car down. The robber, realizing he's being followed brakes suddenly sending Conan skidding under a moving truck. Luckily Conan only receives a number of scratches and bruises on his body, but the skateboard loses a wheel in the incident, forcing Conan to continue his search on foot.

He picks up the signal again only to be surprised to find it leads him back to Beika Bank. Conan spots the robber and follows him across the street from the bank to a high-rise building. The robber meets with a man, later revealed to be the bank manager, only for both of them to be knocked out by Conan using the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] and a metal bucket. It is revealed that the robber stole under the bank manager's orders and they were going to split the money.

A TV broadcast later that night reports on the capture of the culprits and how they claim to have heard a voice before being knocked out. Ran comments that whoever captured the men is like a hero in a TV drama and wonders what they look like. Kogoro then makes a weird face and says "Like this!". Conan, overhearing and becoming irritated, puts a very spicy wasabi sauce on Kogoro's tuna when he isn't looking.

== Masterpiece Thief ==

Conan is reading a newspaper article about how a thief known as Kaitou Nero has struck again, stealing a masterpiece painting and continuing to elude police. Kogoro makes a comment that given the chance he would catch the thief after just one try. A female client then arrives at the agency with a manifesto from Kaitou Nero saying that they will steal the {{nihongo|"Angel's Bath"|天使の沐浴|Tenshi no mokuyoku}} tonight. The client mentions that she and her husband are unable to involve the police in this matter so Kogoro accepts the case. As Conan pulls a slingshot out of his pocket he remembers that he promised to hang out with the Detective Boys that day. He decides to follow Kogoro to the client's house instead.

At the house, Kogoro and Conan meet the painting's current owner, the Ootsuki Trade President Fumitaka Ootsuki, and discover he has quite an extensive collection of fine art throughout the building. The "Angel's Bath" is stored in a loft type room of the house that is only accessible via the press of a button on a remote control carried by Ootsuki. Conan poses a question to Kogoro, wondering why the client couldn't call the police to help.

Later, while walking around, Conan overhears Ootsuki having an interesting conversation on the phone regarding the painting to somebody. It seems that Ootsuki's collection isn't entirely collected through legitimate means, which prevents Ootsuki from involving the police. Conan then discovers a listening device under the couch Kogoro is napping on, causing him to ask Ootsuki's wife if any unexpected people dropped by in the past few days. The wife explains that a person from the gas company dropped by. After realizing the listening device was installed because Nero wasn't able to figure out where the "Angel's Bath" is hidden Conan uses the [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] to tell Nero the location and lure them out.

Later that night the lights cut off and Conan rushes towards the loft only to twist his ankle when Ootsuki steps on his foot and pushes him out of the way. Discovering Kogoro asleep at the foot of the ladder leading to the loft, Conan and Ootsuki go to a nearby room and discover an empty picture frame on the floor and a rope tied from the window to a tree. Ootsuki rushes back downstairs but Conan heads back towards the loft and finds himself face-to-face with Nero who had just retrieved the real painting. Although Nero's face is completely covered, the tight-fitting body suit reveals Nero to be a woman. Conan, unable to use the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] because of his ankle suddenly remembers the slingshot in his pocket, but before he uses it, Nero runs past him knocking Conan to the floor. Conan takes aim at the painting instead of Nero. Unable to allow the painting to be destroyed, Nero gives it up and escapes after asking Conan his name. Ootsuki is relieved to still have the painting until Conan as "Sleeping Kogoro" reveals the police have been informed of his wrongdoings.

After discovering oddities about the note and Takechi's stirring spoon Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] on Sonoko and reveals Nanbara is responsible for the poisoning. Because Takechi prefers using his own items he was carrying a set of silverware in the case he was taking around with him. While Takechi was in the shower Nanbara spread poison on the spoon he knew Takechi would use for the coffee. Nanbara tricked Takechi into writing the suicide note by asking Takechi to write some notes down for him on a notepad while pretending to be on a phone call. As proof, Conan as Sonoko points out that Nanbara's handkerchief has ink imprints from the supposed suicide note on it.　Nanbara's motive was that he was in debt to Takechi and was unable to pay. Ran compliments Sonoko on her deductive reasoning and Sonoko claims she'll try even harder next time to snag a cute guy.

== The Missing Man ==

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro ride a bus to a [[wikipedia:Pension_(lodging)|pension]] for some rest and relaxation. On the journey, Ran, trying to feed Conan apple slices, accidentally stabs a bearded man in a parka with a fork after the bus goes on to some bumpy road. Ran apologizes and notices the man is bleeding, but he shouts at her that he's okay. Kogoro bickers with Ran regarding Conan constantly staying with them without paying any money. Ran argues back that Conan has brought him good luck in receiving and solving cases. Upon arriving at the pension, a man named Yamashita introduces himself to Kogoro. The man Ran stabbed earlier, Tanaka, leaves the main group carrying skis with him.

Later that night at dinner, the group notices Yamashita and Tanaka haven't come down yet. Ran and Conan go to get Yamashita from his room but find him dead on the floor with a knife in his back.

Conan and Kogoro search for clues as to the murderer and discover a bloody shirt and knife sheath in Tanaka's room. The entire group meets downstairs to discuss what to do, but it seems impossible to chase after Tanaka since there's a blizzard outside. Conan, looking at the serious face of Endou, one of the group members, notices an odd marking. Realizing the trick of how Tanaka disappeared, Conan comments on the marking of where a beard was glued on and points out the odd fork-like markings on the man's wrist.

Mitsuhiko shows off his wideband receiver to the other Detective Boys and explains how it is able to overhear phonecalls. When the group overhears a man receiving demands from his daughter's kidnapper, Conan and the Detective Boys set to work to stop him. The group listens carefully to the call for clues as the kidnapper threatens to kill the kidnapped Junko if his demands aren't met. Using the Electronic Notebook Map, Conan manages to narrow the search area to the distance the wideband receiver gets signals. Having overheard a train during the phone call, the group heads for the one spot in range where there are railroad tracks.

Realizing a miscalculation, Conan rushes to find the kidnapper who is watching Junko's father from a distance. As the kidnapper demands Junko's father to commit suicide, Conan uses the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] to slam a soccer ball into the kidnapper's face and stop Junko's father just in time. Genta picks up the wideband receiver only to overhear a phone call between his mother and Mitsuhiko's in which it seems both boys will be in trouble when they return home. Conan remarks that the life of an elementary schooler is rough.

Lead actress of the play "The Tail of a Comet" Michiru Ushio and her co-star Saeko Kusunoki are preparing in the dressing room for their next performance. Michiru comments to Saeko she's sorry that Saeko didn't get the lead part. Saeko claims to be okay but as Michiru leaves she comments to herself that Michiru is a thief for taking the role from her and that Michiru's performance will be her last. Meanwhile, the play begins as Ran, Conan, and Kogoro watch in the audience. As Michiru's scene ends, Saeko playing the role of a shining ghost takes her place as Ran comments that even though the lights are all off they can see Saeko's body is shining. As Saeko leaves the stage, Michiru goes back on with a wire harness to perform a flying scene. Saeko anxiously awaits for something to happen to Michiru during the flying scene, but much to her dismay, Michiru gets through the scene safely.

As Saeko's first plan to get rid of Michiru fails, she thinks to herself about her motive for doing so in the first place. Michiru managed to get the lead role because her father is the sponsor of the theater group. Saeko leaves the stage after her scene as Michiru goes back on for a solo scene. Saeko watches the scene from a screen backstage as Michiru performs until suddenly at the end of her scene, a massive light fixture falls on top of her.

Conan and Kogoro immediately leap into action, leaving Ran behind. Conan and Kogoro begin investigating backstage, discovering a crew member talking about the "stopper" used on the lights to keep them from moving. As the member explains, Conan discovers that the harness Michiru was flying in earlier was tampered with. As Conan points this out to Kogoro it becomes apparent that the light incident must not have been an accident, but rather a murder. The rest of the stage crew are puzzled as to how this could be since everyone was watching Michiru's scene on the video monitor backstage. As Kogoro tries to work it out, Conan discovers water on the ground by the pulley that holds the lights. The leader in charge of the stage production is about to shut down the production for good when Saeko steps forward claiming she can bravely do Michiru's role.

Conan messes around with the lights backstage afterwards to discover fluorescent paint on the floor right where the light fixture pulley is. He then tricks '''Saeko Kusunoki''' into going backstage with him and is able to point out to Kogoro that both the floor by the pulley and Saeko are still glowing from the fluorescent paint. It is then revealed that Saeko managed to set up the trick with the pulley using ice in order to provide herself with an alibi. As Conan and Kogoro leave the theater they are shocked to discover Ran has left a mass of destruction from her anger from being left behind.

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro are in attendance at movie director Nagira Oosawa's party for his latest hit movie. Oosawa gives a speech to the crowd with his wife Asako standing next to him as Conan overhears a few ladies in the crowd gossiping about Oosawa and Asako's relationship. Kogoro offers his thanks to Oosawa as Conan notices a man standing next to him wearing shoes with shiny rubber soles like rainboots. Conan, puzzled, asks the man if it's raining outside. The man gives Conan an excuse when all of a sudden Oosawa is seen loudly shouting at Asako for forgetting to bring his medicine to the party. Conan feels sorry for Asako until he realizes she oddly has a strange smile on her face as she look across the room at the man with the shoes Conan talked to earlier.

Later that night, Conan runs off for the bathroom only to discover water is covering the entire floor. While in the bathroom Conan discovers a cockroach scuttling across the floor behind him when Oosawa comes in to the bathroom as well. Conan washes his hands when all of a sudden Oosawa clutches his chest and falls to the ground dead. Conan gets help and as Kogoro and the crowd try to calm Asako down, Conan discovers the cockroach from earlier on the bathroom floor dead as well. Over by the drain on the floor, Conan notices odd specks and, thanks to Kogoro's unwilling help, discovers the specks to be salt. Continuing to investigate the bathroom, Conan spots a toilet with electronic settings plugged in to a wall and that at the bottom of Oosawa's outfit there are odd strands of gold thread near his feet.

Putting the clues together, Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] on Kogoro and the [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] to reveal that the man with the rubber soles ''and'' Asako are responsible for Oosawa's death. The man with the rubber soles electrified the floor of the bathroom using the super conductive salty water while Asako, who had been having an affair with the man, had attached the gold thread to Oosawa's clothing to ensure he would be electrocuted.

Genta tells Conan, Mitsuhiko, and Ayumi a story about a abandoned skyscraper in Beika [[wikipedia:Japanese_addressing_system|4-chōme]] where the ghost of the building's owner who committed suicide is said to be seen in one of the building's windows. Mitsuhiko dismisses the story as nonsense, irritating Genta. Ayumi suggests that the group should go check out to see if the story is for real or not. The following day, the Detective Boys manage to sneak in to the building carrying flashlights. Conan asks the group how on Earth they plan on proving if they see a real ghost or not and the other members reveal they have brought hand mirror [[wikipedia:Omamori|omamoris]]. The Detective Boys explore the building and find no ghosts, but get spooked by strange sounds and lights until Conan points out the sounds are simply wind blowing through the air duct system and neon signs glowing through the open windows.

As Conan peers out one of the windows, he discovers that the building still has more floors to explore above even though the group hadn't come across a staircase leading to the next level. The group manages to discover a ladder in the elevator shaft leading to the next floor and they follow it up. While exploring the new floor the group is startled by the sound of a phone echoing throughout the area. As Conan tracks down the source of the sound, they discover the ringing came from a cell phone lying next to a bloodied corpse. As Ayumi clutches her mirror in front of her using it as a protective amulet she is shocked to discover someone else's reflection above her own. The group turns around to discover the ragged looking man responsible for killing the person on the floor. The man then chases the group with a long pipe in an attempt to kill them, leaving Genta, Ayumi, and Mitsuhiko to become separated from Conan. Conan manages to hold the man's attention away from the other kids and attempts to use the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] only for them to fail. Without any protection, Conan dodges the man's attacks and cuts off his flashlight. The man in an attempt to see where Conan is manages to create a torch. The man spots Conan and charges only to fall into the elevator shaft and falls unconscious. Conan tricked the man using the mirror in his pocket he had picked up from Ayumi earlier and had attached it to the wire of the elevator's pulley system. The murderer is revealed to be none other than the building owner that had been rumored to have hanged himself. The owner had been hiding from debt collectors which eventually led to the owner getting neurosis. The murder victim was somebody who was also curious about the rumors and went to see the ghost for himself only to be mistaken for being a debt collector so the owner killed him. The police bring the owner to justice and as the group is scolded by their mothers and Ran for going out to a dangerous place without permission, Conan jokingly remarks how the omamori won't be able to protect him from Ran.

Ran and Conan go snorkeling while Kogoro relaxes on a beach only to find a corpse with a heavy weight attached to her feet floating in the shallow water. The corpse is revealed to be Mitsuko Sekine after being identified by one of her friends. The local doctor, Tanaka, is surprised to find out Kogoro is a detective and claims that Mitsuko committed suicide. Tanaka gives a valid reason for how she did but Conan seems uneasy about the doctor's reasoning.

Mitsuko's friend calls Tanaka a murderer as he leaves the scene and she reveals that Mitsuko and Tanaka had been seeing eachother until Tanaka broke up with her after becoming engaged to the daughter of a major hospital. Kogoro tries to confront Tanaka and pin the murder of Mitsuko on him but Tanaka reveals he has a solid alibi. Conan then rushes to the beach in order to look for clues when he discovers an old man who explains that trash from the ocean tends to end up in front of his shack because of the currents. In the pile of trash, Conan discovers an intertube with a small hole punctured in the side and then sets to work figuring out where the murderer originally dropped the body in the water. By conducting an experiment in which he throws a bunch of water bottles into the ocean at random places, Conan is able to figure out how Tanaka set up his alibi and commit the murder.

Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] and [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] on Kogoro to reveal his deduction. Conan explains that Tanaka drugged Mitsuko, placed her in the ring of the intertube, made a small hole, and then set her adrift in the ocean. The air escaped from the intertube slowly and the currents carried Mitsuko far away so that Tanaka was able to create his alibi. To further prove Tanaka's guilt, Conan points out that the knot of rope that was around Mitsuko's ankles is facing the wrong direction of what it should be if Mitsuko had tied the rope herself to commit suicide. Tanaka is then caught as Kogoro, Conan, and Ran wrap up their vacation by eating [[wikipedia:Kakigōri|kakigōri]].

Conan is waiting for his turn to speak to a teller at Beika Bank when he spots a male worker looking for the branch manager of the bank. The manager seems distracted however and glances at his watch. A black car pulls up outside the bank and a man comes out just as Conan's turn is up. The man waves a gun around, demanding the bank fill his money bag. Spotting the manager, the man tosses him the bag to fill it up. While the robber's back is turned a security officer attempts to sneak up behind the robber only for the manager to speak up, causing the sneak attack to fail.

Determined to stop the robber from getting away, Conan manages to put a tracking sticker on the robber's money bag but is caught in the process. The robber holds a gun at Conan's face only to suddenly remark "Time is up" and runs away. A teller shouts that they need to get the robber's license plate number when the manager suddenly volunteers to do the job himself. The manager fails to get out of the building in time and get the number as Conan quickly gets on his [[Turbo Engine Skateboard]] to track the car down. The robber, realizing he's being followed brakes suddenly sending Conan skidding under a moving truck. Luckily Conan only receives a number of scratches and bruises on his body, but the skateboard loses a wheel in the incident, forcing Conan to continue his search on foot.

He picks up the signal again only to be surprised to find it leads him back to Beika Bank. Conan spots the robber and follows him across the street from the bank to a high-rise building. The robber meets with a man, later revealed to be the bank manager, only for both of them to be knocked out by Conan using the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] and a metal bucket. It is revealed that the robber stole under the bank manager's orders and they were going to split the money.

A TV broadcast later that night reports on the capture of the culprits and how they claim to have heard a voice before being knocked out. Ran comments that whoever captured the men is like a hero in a TV drama and wonders what they look like. Kogoro then makes a weird face and says "Like this!". Conan, overhearing and becoming irritated, puts a very spicy wasabi sauce on Kogoro's tuna when he isn't looking.

== Masterpiece Thief ==

Conan is reading a newspaper article about how a thief known as Kaitou Nero has struck again, stealing a masterpiece painting and continuing to elude police. Kogoro makes a comment that given the chance he would catch the thief after just one try. A female client then arrives at the agency with a manifesto from Kaitou Nero saying that they will steal the {{nihongo|"Angel's Bath"|天使の沐浴|Tenshi no mokuyoku}} tonight. The client mentions that she and her husband are unable to involve the police in this matter so Kogoro accepts the case. As Conan pulls a slingshot out of his pocket he remembers that he promised to hang out with the Detective Boys that day. He decides to follow Kogoro to the client's house instead.

At the house, Kogoro and Conan meet the painting's current owner, the Ootsuki Trade President Fumitaka Ootsuki, and discover he has quite an extensive collection of fine art throughout the building. The "Angel's Bath" is stored in a loft type room of the house that is only accessible via the press of a button on a remote control carried by Ootsuki. Conan poses a question to Kogoro, wondering why the client couldn't call the police to help.

Later, while walking around, Conan overhears Ootsuki having an interesting conversation on the phone regarding the painting to somebody. It seems that Ootsuki's collection isn't entirely collected through legitimate means, which prevents Ootsuki from involving the police. Conan then discovers a listening device under the couch Kogoro is napping on, causing him to ask Ootsuki's wife if any unexpected people dropped by in the past few days. The wife explains that a person from the gas company dropped by. After realizing the listening device was installed because Nero wasn't able to figure out where the "Angel's Bath" is hidden Conan uses the [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] to tell Nero the location and lure them out.

Later that night the lights cut off and Conan rushes towards the loft only to twist his ankle when Ootsuki steps on his foot and pushes him out of the way. Discovering Kogoro asleep at the foot of the ladder leading to the loft, Conan and Ootsuki go to a nearby room and discover an empty picture frame on the floor and a rope tied from the window to a tree. Ootsuki rushes back downstairs but Conan heads back towards the loft and finds himself face-to-face with Nero who had just retrieved the real painting. Although Nero's face is completely covered, the tight-fitting body suit reveals Nero to be a woman. Conan, unable to use the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] because of his ankle suddenly remembers the slingshot in his pocket, but before he uses it, Nero runs past him knocking Conan to the floor. Conan takes aim at the painting instead of Nero. Unable to allow the painting to be destroyed, Nero gives it up and escapes after asking Conan his name. Ootsuki is relieved to still have the painting until Conan as "Sleeping Kogoro" reveals the police have been informed of his wrongdoings.

Conan and Ran are attending a fancy dinner party at Sonoko's house when Sonoko walks over to talk to Ran about forgetting about waiting for Shinichi and to come with her to pick up cute guys at the party. As Sonoko says her plan aloud she is greeted by Nanbara: the "idiot son" of the head of XX Shuppan and a horrible person, according to Sonoko. Nanbara while carrying a wine glass forcibly leads Sonoko and Ran walking around with him so he can go make coffee when he comes across his friend Takechi who is carrying a case around with him and wearing gloves on his hands. Nanbara gloats about being surrounded by ladies when he trips and knocks the contents of his wine glass on Takechi.

Sonoko offers Takechi the use of the shower which he accepts. While Takechi cleans himself up Conan asks Nanbara why Takechi is wearing gloves and carrying the case. Nanbara explains Takechi's germophobic tendencies before excusing himself to retrieve coffee cups. Nanbara later makes coffee for Conan, Ran, Sonoko, himself, and Takechi. After Takechi adds sugar and cream to his coffee and takes a sip he collapses to the floor, dead. Once Megure arrives and reveals Takechi died from poison, Nanbara recalls that Takechi had been acting strange recently. == The Missing Man ==

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro ride a bus to a [[wikipedia:Pension_(lodging)|pension]] for some rest and relaxation. On the journey, Ran, trying to feed Conan apple slices, accidentally stabs a bearded man in a parka with a fork after the bus goes on to some bumpy road. Ran apologizes and notices the man is bleeding, but he shouts at her that he's okay. Kogoro bickers with Ran regarding Conan constantly staying with them without paying any money. Ran argues back that Conan has brought him good luck in receiving and solving cases. Upon arriving at the pension, a man named Yamashita introduces himself to Kogoro. The man Ran stabbed earlier, Tanaka, leaves the main group carrying skis with him.

Later that night at dinner, the group notices Yamashita and Tanaka haven't come down yet. Ran and Conan go to get Yamashita from his room but find him dead on the floor with a knife in his back.

Conan and Kogoro search for clues as to the murderer and discover a bloody shirt and knife sheath in Tanaka's room. The entire group meets downstairs to discuss what to do, but it seems impossible to chase after Tanaka since there's a blizzard outside. Conan, looking at the serious face of Endou, one of the group members, notices an odd marking. Realizing the trick of how Tanaka disappeared, Conan comments on the marking of where a beard was glued on and points out the odd fork-like markings on the man's wrist. Endou, discovering Conan is responsible for his downfall, grabs a poker from near the stove and chases him with it until Ran uses her karate skills to knock him unconscious. As Endou is taken away by the police the next day, it is revealed that Endou killed Yamashita for stealing his girlfriend from him. The story ends with Kogoro gloating about another successful case and Conan wishing to himself to get his body back.

Mitsuhiko shows off his wideband receiver to the other Detective Boys and explains how it is able to overhear phonecalls. When the group overhears a man receiving demands from his daughter's kidnapper, Conan and the Detective Boys set to work to stop him. The group listens carefully to the call for clues as the kidnapper threatens to kill the kidnapped Junko if his demands aren't met. Using the Electronic Notebook Map, Conan manages to narrow the search area to the distance the wideband receiver gets signals. Having overheard a train during the phone call, the group heads for the one spot in range where there are railroad tracks.

Realizing a miscalculation, Conan rushes to find the kidnapper who is watching Junko's father from a distance. As the kidnapper demands Junko's father to commit suicide, Conan uses the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] to slam a soccer ball into the kidnapper's face and stop Junko's father just in time. Genta picks up the wideband receiver only to overhear a phone call between his mother and Mitsuhiko's in which it seems both boys will be in trouble when they return home. Conan remarks that the life of an elementary schooler is rough.

== Murderous Intent ==

Lead actress of the play "The Tail of a Comet" Michiru Ushio and her co-star Saeko Kusunoki are preparing in the dressing room for their next performance. Michiru comments to Saeko she's sorry that Saeko didn't get the lead part. Saeko claims to be okay but as Michiru leaves she comments to herself that Michiru is a thief for taking the role from her and that Michiru's performance will be her last. Meanwhile, the play begins as Ran, Conan, and Kogoro watch in the audience. As Michiru's scene ends, Saeko playing the role of a shining ghost takes her place as Ran comments that even though the lights are all off they can see Saeko's body is shining. As Saeko leaves the stage, Michiru goes back on with a wire harness to perform a flying scene. Saeko anxiously awaits for something to happen to Michiru during the flying scene, but much to her dismay, Michiru gets through the scene safely.

As Saeko's first plan to get rid of Michiru fails, she thinks to herself about her motive for doing so in the first place. Michiru managed to get the lead role because her father is the sponsor of the theater group. Saeko leaves the stage after her scene as Michiru goes back on for a solo scene. Saeko watches the scene from a screen backstage as Michiru performs until suddenly at the end of her scene, a massive light fixture falls on top of her.

Conan and Kogoro immediately leap into action, leaving Ran behind. Conan and Kogoro begin investigating backstage, discovering a crew member talking about the "stopper" used on the lights to keep them from moving. As the member explains, Conan discovers that the harness Michiru was flying in earlier was tampered with. As Conan points this out to Kogoro it becomes apparent that the light incident must not have been an accident, but rather a murder. The rest of the stage crew are puzzled as to how this could be since everyone was watching Michiru's scene on the video monitor backstage. As Kogoro tries to work it out, Conan discovers water on the ground by the pulley that holds the lights. The leader in charge of the stage production is about to shut down the production for good when Saeko steps forward claiming she can bravely do Michiru's role.

Conan messes around with the lights backstage afterwards to discover fluorescent paint on the floor right where the light fixture pulley is. He then tricks '''Saeko Kusunoki''' into going backstage with him and is able to point out to Kogoro that both the floor by the pulley and Saeko are still glowing from the fluorescent paint. It is then revealed that Saeko managed to set up the trick with the pulley using ice in order to provide herself with an alibi. As Conan and Kogoro leave the theater they are shocked to discover Ran has left a mass of destruction from her anger from being left behind.

Conan, Ran, and Kogoro are in attendance at movie director Nagira Oosawa's party for his latest hit movie. Oosawa gives a speech to the crowd with his wife Asako standing next to him as Conan overhears a few ladies in the crowd gossiping about Oosawa and Asako's relationship. Kogoro offers his thanks to Oosawa as Conan notices a man standing next to him wearing shoes with shiny rubber soles like rainboots. Conan, puzzled, asks the man if it's raining outside. The man gives Conan an excuse when all of a sudden Oosawa is seen loudly shouting at Asako for forgetting to bring his medicine to the party. Conan feels sorry for Asako until he realizes she oddly has a strange smile on her face as she look across the room at the man with the shoes Conan talked to earlier.

Later that night, Conan runs off for the bathroom only to discover water is covering the entire floor. While in the bathroom Conan discovers a cockroach scuttling across the floor behind him when Oosawa comes in to the bathroom as well. Conan washes his hands when all of a sudden Oosawa clutches his chest and falls to the ground dead. Conan gets help and as Kogoro and the crowd try to calm Asako down, Conan discovers the cockroach from earlier on the bathroom floor dead as well. Over by the drain on the floor, Conan notices odd specks and, thanks to Kogoro's unwilling help, discovers the specks to be salt. Continuing to investigate the bathroom, Conan spots a toilet with electronic settings plugged in to a wall and that at the bottom of Oosawa's outfit there are odd strands of gold thread near his feet.

Putting the clues together, Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] on Kogoro and the [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] to reveal that the man with the rubber soles ''and'' Asako are responsible for Oosawa's death. The man with the rubber soles electrified the floor of the bathroom using the super conductive salty water while Asako, who had been having an affair with the man, had attached the gold thread to Oosawa's clothing to ensure he would be electrocuted.

== Haunted Building ==

Genta tells Conan, Mitsuhiko, and Ayumi a story about a abandoned skyscraper in Beika [[wikipedia:Japanese_addressing_system|4-chōme]] where the ghost of the building's owner who committed suicide is said to be seen in one of the building's windows. Mitsuhiko dismisses the story as nonsense, irritating Genta. Ayumi suggests that the group should go check out to see if the story is for real or not. The following day, the Detective Boys manage to sneak in to the building carrying flashlights. Conan asks the group how on Earth they plan on proving if they see a real ghost or not and the other members reveal they have brought hand mirror [[wikipedia:Omamori|omamoris]]. The Detective Boys explore the building and find no ghosts, but get spooked by strange sounds and lights until Conan points out the sounds are simply wind blowing through the air duct system and neon signs glowing through the open windows.

As Conan peers out one of the windows, he discovers that the building still has more floors to explore above even though the group hadn't come across a staircase leading to the next level. The group manages to discover a ladder in the elevator shaft leading to the next floor and they follow it up. While exploring the new floor the group is startled by the sound of a phone echoing throughout the area. As Conan tracks down the source of the sound, they discover the ringing came from a cell phone lying next to a bloodied corpse. As Ayumi clutches her mirror in front of her using it as a protective amulet she is shocked to discover someone else's reflection above her own. The group turns around to discover the ragged looking man responsible for killing the person on the floor. The man then chases the group with a long pipe in an attempt to kill them, leaving Genta, Ayumi, and Mitsuhiko to become separated from Conan. Conan manages to hold the man's attention away from the other kids and attempts to use the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] only for them to fail. Without any protection, Conan dodges the man's attacks and cuts off his flashlight. The man in an attempt to see where Conan is manages to create a torch. The man spots Conan and charges only to fall into the elevator shaft and falls unconscious. Conan tricked the man using the mirror in his pocket he had picked up from Ayumi earlier and had attached it to the wire of the elevator's pulley system. The murderer is revealed to be none other than the building owner that had been rumored to have hanged himself. The owner had been hiding from debt collectors which eventually led to the owner getting neurosis. The murder victim was somebody who was also curious about the rumors and went to see the ghost for himself only to be mistaken for being a debt collector so the owner killed him. The police bring the owner to justice and as the group is scolded by their mothers and Ran for going out to a dangerous place without permission, Conan jokingly remarks how the omamori won't be able to protect him from Ran.

Ran and Conan go snorkeling while Kogoro relaxes on a beach only to find a corpse with a heavy weight attached to her feet floating in the shallow water. The corpse is revealed to be Mitsuko Sekine after being identified by one of her friends. The local doctor, Tanaka, is surprised to find out Kogoro is a detective and claims that Mitsuko committed suicide. Tanaka gives a valid reason for how she did but Conan seems uneasy about the doctor's reasoning.

Mitsuko's friend calls Tanaka a murderer as he leaves the scene and she reveals that Mitsuko and Tanaka had been seeing eachother until Tanaka broke up with her after becoming engaged to the daughter of a major hospital. Kogoro tries to confront Tanaka and pin the murder of Mitsuko on him but Tanaka reveals he has a solid alibi. Conan then rushes to the beach in order to look for clues when he discovers an old man who explains that trash from the ocean tends to end up in front of his shack because of the currents. In the pile of trash, Conan discovers an intertube with a small hole punctured in the side and then sets to work figuring out where the murderer originally dropped the body in the water. By conducting an experiment in which he throws a bunch of water bottles into the ocean at random places, Conan is able to figure out how Tanaka set up his alibi and commit the murder.

Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] and [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] on Kogoro to reveal his deduction. Conan explains that Tanaka drugged Mitsuko, placed her in the ring of the intertube, made a small hole, and then set her adrift in the ocean. The air escaped from the intertube slowly and the currents carried Mitsuko far away so that Tanaka was able to create his alibi. To further prove Tanaka's guilt, Conan points out that the knot of rope that was around Mitsuko's ankles is facing the wrong direction of what it should be if Mitsuko had tied the rope herself to commit suicide. Tanaka is then caught as Kogoro, Conan, and Ran wrap up their vacation by eating [[wikipedia:Kakigōri|kakigōri]].

== Bank Robbery ==

Conan is waiting for his turn to speak to a teller at Beika Bank when he spots a male worker looking for the branch manager of the bank. The manager seems distracted however and glances at his watch. A black car pulls up outside the bank and a man comes out just as Conan's turn is up. The man waves a gun around, demanding the bank fill his money bag. Spotting the manager, the man tosses him the bag to fill it up. While the robber's back is turned a security officer attempts to sneak up behind the robber only for the manager to speak up, causing the sneak attack to fail.

Determined to stop the robber from getting away, Conan manages to put a tracking sticker on the robber's money bag but is caught in the process. The robber holds a gun at Conan's face only to suddenly remark "Time is up" and runs away. A teller shouts that they need to get the robber's license plate number when the manager suddenly volunteers to do the job himself. The manager fails to get out of the building in time and get the number as Conan quickly gets on his [[Turbo Engine Skateboard]] to track the car down. The robber, realizing he's being followed brakes suddenly sending Conan skidding under a moving truck. Luckily Conan only receives a number of scratches and bruises on his body, but the skateboard loses a wheel in the incident, forcing Conan to continue his search on foot.

He picks up the signal again only to be surprised to find it leads him back to Beika Bank. Conan spots the robber and follows him across the street from the bank to a high-rise building. The robber meets with a man, later revealed to be the bank manager, only for both of them to be knocked out by Conan using the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] and a metal bucket. It is revealed that the robber stole under the bank manager's orders and they were going to split the money.

A TV broadcast later that night reports on the capture of the culprits and how they claim to have heard a voice before being knocked out. Ran comments that whoever captured the men is like a hero in a TV drama and wonders what they look like. Kogoro then makes a weird face and says "Like this!". Conan, overhearing and becoming irritated, puts a very spicy wasabi sauce on Kogoro's tuna when he isn't looking.

== Masterpiece Thief ==

Conan is reading a newspaper article about how a thief known as Kaitou Nero has struck again, stealing a masterpiece painting and continuing to elude police. Kogoro makes a comment that given the chance he would catch the thief after just one try. A female client then arrives at the agency with a manifesto from Kaitou Nero saying that they will steal the {{nihongo|"Angel's Bath"|天使の沐浴|Tenshi no mokuyoku}} tonight. The client mentions that she and her husband are unable to involve the police in this matter so Kogoro accepts the case. As Conan pulls a slingshot out of his pocket he remembers that he promised to hang out with the Detective Boys that day. He decides to follow Kogoro to the client's house instead.

At the house, Kogoro and Conan meet the painting's current owner, the Ootsuki Trade President Fumitaka Ootsuki, and discover he has quite an extensive collection of fine art throughout the building. The "Angel's Bath" is stored in a loft type room of the house that is only accessible via the press of a button on a remote control carried by Ootsuki. Conan poses a question to Kogoro, wondering why the client couldn't call the police to help.

Later, while walking around, Conan overhears Ootsuki having an interesting conversation on the phone regarding the painting to somebody. It seems that Ootsuki's collection isn't entirely collected through legitimate means, which prevents Ootsuki from involving the police. Conan then discovers a listening device under the couch Kogoro is napping on, causing him to ask Ootsuki's wife if any unexpected people dropped by in the past few days. The wife explains that a person from the gas company dropped by. After realizing the listening device was installed because Nero wasn't able to figure out where the "Angel's Bath" is hidden Conan uses the [[Voice-Changing Bowtie]] to tell Nero the location and lure them out.

Later that night the lights cut off and Conan rushes towards the loft only to twist his ankle when Ootsuki steps on his foot and pushes him out of the way. Discovering Kogoro asleep at the foot of the ladder leading to the loft, Conan and Ootsuki go to a nearby room and discover an empty picture frame on the floor and a rope tied from the window to a tree. Ootsuki rushes back downstairs but Conan heads back towards the loft and finds himself face-to-face with Nero who had just retrieved the real painting. Although Nero's face is completely covered, the tight-fitting body suit reveals Nero to be a woman. Conan, unable to use the [[Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes]] because of his ankle suddenly remembers the slingshot in his pocket, but before he uses it, Nero runs past him knocking Conan to the floor. Conan takes aim at the painting instead of Nero. Unable to allow the painting to be destroyed, Nero gives it up and escapes after asking Conan his name. Ootsuki is relieved to still have the painting until Conan as "Sleeping Kogoro" reveals the police have been informed of his wrongdoings.

== Poisoning ==

Conan and Ran are attending a fancy dinner party at Sonoko's house when Sonoko walks over to talk to Ran about forgetting about waiting for Shinichi and to come with her to pick up cute guys at the party. As Sonoko says her plan aloud she is greeted by Nanbara: the "idiot son" of the head of XX Shuppan and a horrible person, according to Sonoko. Nanbara while carrying a wine glass forcibly leads Sonoko and Ran walking around with him so he can go make coffee when he comes across his friend Takechi who is carrying a case around with him and wearing gloves on his hands. Nanbara gloats about being surrounded by ladies when he trips and knocks the contents of his wine glass on Takechi.

Sonoko offers Takechi the use of the shower which he accepts. While Takechi cleans himself up Conan asks Nanbara why Takechi is wearing gloves and carrying the case. Nanbara explains Takechi's germophobic tendencies before excusing himself to retrieve coffee cups. Nanbara later makes coffee for Conan, Ran, Sonoko, himself, and Takechi. After Takechi adds sugar and cream to his coffee and takes a sip he collapses to the floor, dead. Once Megure arrives and reveals Takechi died from poison, Nanbara recalls that Takechi had been acting strange recently. The police then find a suicide note on Takechi's jacket, but Conan isn't convinced.

After discovering oddities about the note and Takechi's stirring spoon Conan uses the [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch]] on Sonoko and reveals Nanbara is responsible for the poisoning. Because Takechi prefers using his own items he was carrying a set of silverware in the case he was taking around with him. While Takechi was in the shower Nanbara spread poison on the spoon he knew Takechi would use for the coffee. Nanbara tricked Takechi into writing the suicide note by asking Takechi to write some notes down for him on a notepad while pretending to be on a phone call. As proof, Conan as Sonoko points out that Nanbara's handkerchief has ink imprints from the supposed suicide note on it.　Nanbara's motive was that he was in debt to Takechi and was unable to pay. Ran compliments Sonoko on her deductive reasoning and Sonoko claims she'll try even harder next time to snag a cute guy.

=== Resolution ===
<spoiler>Junko's dad worked as the tenant of the building he lived in with his family. Some time ago, a little girl died when she fell off a rooftop, which was caused by his negligence on repairing the rooftop door's broken lock; that kid was Tomidokoro's toddler daughter, and he blamed the tenant for it. Since Junko's dad was acquitted, he couldn't stand it and decided to take revenge.

'''Tomidokoro''' kidnapped and tied up little Junko, brought her to a nearby building's terrace, and then forced Junko's dad to do his bidding via giving him instructions through a walkie-talkie... before saying that he wanted to stab himself to death, or Junko would die. This was foiled by Conan and the Detective Kids: Conan kicks off the walkie-talkie to Tomidokoro's face and knocks him out, then he uses and the released Junko use the w-t to tell this to Junko's dad so he won't kill himself.</spoiler>
