Hi everyone! I'm just any ordinary Asian girl anime fanatic. On this website, I'm probably not going to do much because my knowledge of Detective Conan isn't extensive enough to compete with that of a bunch of other DC enthusiasts. So I'll just add any missing information, be a grammar freak, and have fun on this website. Yay! xD

Gin is a tall man with, as Shinichi put it, the eyes of someone who has easily killed many people without a care.<ref name=Eyes/> He has long silver hair (light-brown at first in the anime, then blond, then finally changed to match the manga as can be seen in the 13th movie: [[The Raven Chaser]]) that goes down to his hips and dark green eyes. He wears a black hat, long black coat, and a white turtleneck sweater.

Although Gin is loyal to Anokata and follows all of their orders, he is also shown to act on his own initiative on more than one occasion. He is more than willing to take matters into his own hands when he feels another member has failed.<ref name=Smart>Manga Chapter 383: The New Weapon</ref> He does not trust anyone and does not fully believe anything he doesn't witness himself.<ref>Manga Chapter 702: The Bomber's Aim</ref>. He even once pulled a gun on his own partner, Vodka, when he went against orders and rescheduled a meeting with one of their contacts outside of the organization.<ref name=Smart/>

Gin is quite perceptive and intelligent<ref name=Smart/>; he can smell out traps his partner Vodka easily falls for. He has yet to be truly outsmarted by Conan, although he has been foiled a couple of times. As soon as he becomes suspicious of someone he gets to work looking into them,<ref>Manga Chapter 700: Dangerous Area</ref> but as soon as his suspicions are proven wrong he tends to lose interest completely.<ref name=Scar/><ref>Movie 13: [[The Raven Chaser]]</ref>

In his first appearance in the series, Gin is at Tropical Land to blackmail a member of a big business involved in gun smuggling. The suspicious appearance of him and Vodka causes Shinichi to follow them, stumbling across Vodka's transaction with the businessman. Gin, who seems to have been keeping watch, knocks down Shinichi with a blunt weapon, then force-feeds him the APTX4869. His parting words to Shinichi are "So long, great detective."
===Murder of Akemi Miyano===
Akemi Miyano was told that the only way that she and her sister would be allowed to leave the Black Organization was to obtain 10 billion yen and give it to Gin. In the end, Gin takes the money and shoots her, saying that Akemi's sister (Shiho Miyano, also known as Sherry) was too valuable to be allowed out of the Organization.

===Bullet Train Case===
(This case only features Gin in the manga. In the anime episode, he is replaced here with a man who looks and dresses very similarly. The same is true for Vodka.) Here, Gin and Vodka are making a deal aboard the Shinkansen. For a large sum of money, their client is given what she believes to be a black attaché case containing information about the stock market. However, the case actually contains a bomb rigged to explode when she calls a certain number on her mobile phone. Thanks to a bug Conan placed in their seats, he is able to learn Gin and Vodka's codenames, but is unable to catch them before they leave the train.
===Sherry's Escape===
Gin and Vodka were supposed to remove Sherry from the Organization because she began asking too many questions about her sister's death. At this time, Sherry takes the Apotoxin 4869 and escapes. When Gin and Vodka return, she isn't there. Gin develops an obsession with capturing Sherry and killing her himself.

===Haido City Hotel===
One day, Conan and Ai saw his car on a street. They put a a transmitter in it only some seconds before he arrived there. After a while, Gin found an auburn hair in the car and he deduced it was Shiho's. He found also the transmitter, so he destroyed it (after that is the famous moment when he imagines Shiho naked).
However, Conan and Ai knew where was he going to go, so they went also to the Haido Hotel. There, Pisco kidnapped Haibara and took her to a room with a big fireplace. When Gin and Vodka arrived at the room, she (with her adult body beacuse of the Baikal)was hidden in the fireplace. Gin heared her breathing, and, when she arrived at the roof, he was there. He shot her many times, and, when he was ready to kill her, Conan arrived and shot him a sleeping dart. However, he shot himself in the arm and he didn't fell asleep. After that, he climb down the chimney, killed Pisco and climb back up. Then, he returned to his car with Vodka and Vermouth and they talked about Sherry. In this chapter, Gin shows he knos Shiho very well, guessing what was she going to do and were she was and identifying her by only one hair.

Gin coordinates the assasination of Domon Yasuteru. His first plan, which was to get Domon interviewed, and kill him through Chianti and Korn. His backup plan; which consisted of Vermouth crashing in front of Domon's car, and later Kir, Chianti, and Korn would kill Domon and his two bodyguards, was canceled when he discovered the transmitter Conan set up. Gin assumes the transmitter was set up by Kogoro, and move to kill him. However, the assasination of Kogoro is interrupted by Conan and Akai, who was sniping from 700 yards away. Gin leaves after being hit, and assumes the transmitter was set up by the FBI. Later, he decides not to kill Kogoro and Conan at the word of Vermouth.

Gin is the one that orders Kir to kill Akai. He doubted her allegiances to the Organization and was suspicious of her so he put her at gunpoint and forced her to call Akai to tell him to meet her somewhere. He tells her he will be watching the whole assassination so if she planned on doing anything suspicious, he would kill her. Kir kills Akai (even though there are theories that he may still be alive) and Gin is reassured of her allegiance to the Organization.

Initially, Gin is involved in the plot because he is to eliminate a traitor in the Organization. Later though, he finds out that Sherry was attending a party at the Twin Tower Buildings, the targeted location, and decides to kill two birds with one stone. He shoots at Sonoko, who got her hair permed and looks a lot like Sherry, but he realizes that it wasn't her after all after Conan gets Sonoko to dodge the bullet and she starts panicking in a very uncomposed manner. He leaves the towers in the end, looking forward to killing Sherry the next time he sees her

===Raven Chaser===
In the beginning, during Conan's dream, Gin appears and is shown to know Conan's true identity. Later, in reality, Gin is looking for a SIM card that contains information crucial to the Organization. His next appearance is during the climax of the movie. He, Vodka, Chianti, and Korn arrive at the top of Tokyo Tower in a black helicopter. Gin calls Irish and tells him to hold out the computer chip, then orders Chianti to kill Irish and destroy the chip in one shot. He spots someone (Conan) trying to hide and orders Vodka to start using the machine gun that was built into the helicopter. After Conan catapults the broken light into the back of the helicopter and Vodka is trying to get it back in control, he wonders who could have done so much damage to the Organization and leaves the scene.

Gin, who seems to have been keeping watch, knocks down Shinichi with a blunt weapon, then force-feeds him the APTX4869. His parting words to Shinichi are "So long, great detective."
===Murder of Akemi Miyano===
Akemi Miyano was told that the only way that she and her sister would be allowed to leave the Black Organization was to obtain 10 billion yen and give it to Gin. In the end, Gin takes the money and shoots her, saying that Akemi's sister (Shiho Miyano, also known as Sherry) was too valuable to be allowed out of the Organization.

===Bullet Train Case===
(This case only features Gin in the manga. In the anime episode, he is replaced here with a man who looks and dresses very similarly. The same is true for Vodka.) Here, Gin and Vodka are making a deal aboard the Shinkansen. For a large sum of money, their client is given what she believes to be a black attaché case containing information about the stock market. However, the case actually contains a bomb rigged to explode when she calls a certain number on her mobile phone. Thanks to a bug Conan placed in their seats, he is able to learn Gin and Vodka's codenames, but is unable to catch them before they leave the train.

Gin and Vodka were supposed to remove Sherry from the Organization because her sister wasn't loyal enough. At this time, Sherry takes the Apotoxin 4869 and escapes. When Gin and Vodka return, she isn't there. Gin develops an obsession with capturing Sherry and killing her himself.

One day, Conan and Ai saw his car on a street. They put a a transmitter in it only some seconds before he arrived there. After a while, Gin found an auburn hair in the car and he deduced it was Shiho's. He found also the transmitter, so he destroyed it (after that is the famous moment when he imagines Shiho naked).
However, Conan and Ai knew where was he going to go, so they went also to the Haido Hotel. There, Pisco kidnapped Haibara and took her to a room with a big fireplace. When Gin and Vodka arrived at the room, she (with her adult body beacuse of the Baikal)was hidden in the fireplace. Gin heared her breathing, and, when she arrived at the roof, he was there. He shot her many times, and, when he was ready to kill her, Conan arrived and shot him a sleeping dart. However, he shot himself in the arm and he didn't fell asleep. After that, he climb down the chimney, killed Pisco and climb back up. Then, he returned to his car with Vodka and Vermouth and they talked about Sherry. In this chapter, Gin shows he knos Shiho very well, guessing what was she going to do and were she was and identifying her by only one hair.

His backup plan; which consisted of Vermouth crashing in front of Domon's car, and later Kir, Chianti, and Korn would kill Domon and his two bodyguards, was canceled when he discovered the transmitter Conan set up. Gin assumes the transmitter was set up by Kogoro, and move to kill him. However, the assasination of Kogoro is interrupted by Conan and Akai, who was sniping from 700 yards away. Gin leaves after being hit, and assumes the transmitter was set up by the FBI. Later, he decides not to kill Kogoro and Conan at the word of Vermouth.

Hidemi first met Conan in her newscaster identity. For some time Rena had been stalked at her own housedoor, with sleeping pills left regularly on her doorstep. Rena's friend [[Yoko Okino|Yoko]] decided to call in [[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro]], who came of course in [[Ran Mouri|Ran's]] and [[Conan Edogawa|Conan's]] company. In order to track down the culprit, Conan pasted a bug next to her door. Eventually, the stalker turned out to be a young boy. The reason for his leaving pills was that his late mother ostensibly resembled Hidemi, and in order to see her more regularly on TV, he had deposited the pills so she could have more restful sleeps. Facing these facts, Rena gently encouraged the boy to get over his mother's death and start his own life now. Shortly after Conan and the others left, Rena also departed, but in the process Conan's bug fell off and accidentally got stuck to the sole of her shoe. Right afterwards, to Conan's immense shock, Rena made a call to no other than [[Gin]], who directed her to the attempted assassination of a popular politician; under the guise of a TV interview, Rena was to guide him to a place where he could be easily dispatched.

Conan of course decided to intervene, and he, [[Hiroshi Agasa|Professor Agasa]] and [[Ai Haibara|Ai]] took up the pursuit, during which they also met [[Jodie Starling]] who tagged along as well. They just barely managed to thwart the assassination, but the Organization decided to execute a backup plan, with Rena pursuing their target on a motorbike. When the FBI attempted to apprehend her, an accident ensued in which Rena was critically injured and fell into a coma. She was delivered into the Baker Clinic and kept under constant guard of the FBI.

His suspicious behavior and his astonishing physical similarity to Rena lead Conan to believe that he was somehow in cahoots with her. In time it turned out that he was in fact Rena's/Hidemi's younger brother, who had been looking for her after she had inexplicably disappeared. She was in fact an agent of the CIA who had taken [[Ethan Hondou|her father's place]] as a mole in the Organization following a blunder on her part, which had forced her father to sacrifice himself to save his daughter and maintain her cover.

Following this revelation, Hidemi rejoined the Black Organization with the help of Conan and [[Shuichi Akai|Shuichi]], but as a test to regain the [[Anokata]]'s trust, she had to kill Akai (it is strongly implied that Akai either managed to escape or his execution was set up). After having regained her standing in the Organization, she continues to feed information to both the FBI and the CIA, including that an agent named [[Bourbon]] had been sent to track down a renegade member. However, ever since her recovery, Gin has been keeping a sharp eye on her, especially when Akai appeared to have resurfaced unexpectedly.<ref>Manga Chapter 701: Hint of Red and 13</ref> However, so far Hidemi has - with a good portion of luck, fast-talking and circumstances - avoided giving herself away.

== Personality ==
Despite having to maintain her cover within the Black Organization, Hidemi remains a compassionate person and attempts to preserve as many lives as she can. Having seen him in action, she has come to trust Conan and his judgment implicitly. Among the members of the Organization though, she appears to be cold and obedient to her superiors, but she acts a bit more merciful than the others, causing Gin to get suspicious of her at times.

== Plot ==
In this movie, our little detective travels to Kyoto to solve a case involving a robbery group and murder. He meets with Heiji and Kazuha who is battling the thought that Heiji is traveling to Kyoto to find his first love. As Heiji searches for her, he meets up with Conan to help solve the case. As they begin their joint investigation, the case gets deeper and more dangerous. What exactly is going on anyway, and does the murderer has something in mind for Heiji too? Conan is ready to help when they meet on the Crossroad in the Ancient Capital!

== Resolution ==

Kazuha is kidnapped by the murderer because Heiji is too injured to do anything. The only way Kazuha will be let go is if Heiji himself goes and rescues her. Conan finds a way to turn back into Shinichi and disguises himself to look like Heiji in order to rescue Kazuha. However, the rescue goes wrong and Shinichi ends up unable to fight because the antidote was only temporary. The real Heiji shows up and fights the men that are coming after him and Kazuha. Shinichi runs into Ran while and has to use his tranquilizer watch to knock her out as he turns back into Conan. He goes back to the scene of the fight where Heiji and the culprit are fighting on a roof. Kazuha and Conan take out a few of their foes and Conan kicks a soccer ball at Heiji's opponent, giving Heiji an opportunity to win the fight. In the very end, Heiji realizes Kazuha was his first love when she starts singing the song that he heard the girl at the temple sing back when he was young and also tells him about the time she went to Kyoto with him. Ran also learns that Shinichi being there with her wasn't a dream when Conan uses a trick to make the sweat she wiped off Shinichi's face appear on her handkerchief.

Conan suspects that the Black Organization may also be involved, especially when he sees Gin's car, a black Porsche 356A, there. As the detective boys were going for a camping trip they saw the newly built twin towers and decided to stop by after they finished camping. Meanwhile, Haibara has been acting very strange lately, talking on the phone to an unknown person at night. Has her connection grown darker and is the BO the one behind all this after all, looking for their escaped member? Conan must stop them as the clock ticks away on the Countdown to Heaven!

It turns out that the Black Organization was involved, but only in the murder of Yoshiaki Hara the computer programmer. It turns out that Hara was part of the Black Organization but he used the Tokiwa Corporation's main computer to hack into the Black Organization's files. Gin and Vodka set up bombs in Tower A to destroy the computer Hara used to access the Black Organization's files and to kill Sherry and anyone else involved with her. Everyone but the Detective Boys (minus Conan) make their way out of the burning building and Conan goes back to rescue them. Unfortunately, the Black Organization foils any of their chances of escaping. While [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] is trying to find out another way to escape, [[Ai Haibara|Ai]] notices that there are bombs planted in the room and they are all set on a timer. Putting Ayumi's skills with the thirty-seconds game (being able to count to thirty seconds perfectly) to use, the [[Detective Boys]] take the car [[Kogoro Mouri|Mouri]] won and Conan uses the speed from the explosion to drive/launch them across to the adjacent building that has a retractable roof to a pool. They land in the rooftop pool safely, and the movie ends with Kogoro's horror at his prize car being in the pool.

At the beginning of the series, Shinichi is a fairly famous high school detective who frequently helps the Tokyo police solve murder mysteries.

[[Yusaku Kudo|Yusaku]] and [[Yukiko Kudo|Yukiko]] Kudo are both aware that [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] is in fact Shinichi. His parents are even more famous than he is, with Yusaku being a famous mystery novelist and Yukiko being a retired actress. They currently live in the United States and travel extensively, having left Shinichi in Japan on his own when he was fourteen. Though he sometimes finds his parents' carefree ways to be annoying, he loves them dearly. Yusaku is also a detective with the same keen eye for details, and similarly to Holmes' brother Mycroft, Yusaku always seems to solve a case one step ahead of his son.

==== Professor Agasa ====
Although not related by blood, there's a strong family-like bond between Shinichi and [[Hiroshi Agasa]]. Dr Agasa was the first to know about Shinichi's real identity and was the one to tell him to keep it a secret. Most of the gadgets that Shinichi has where made by Dr Agasa to help him catch the criminals and solve the cases. Dr Agasa also knows about Shinichi's romantic relationship with Ran and sometimes teases him about it in front of her (when he can't do anything about it since he is Conan).

==== Heiji Hattori ====
[[Heiji Hattori|Heiji]] is often referred to as Shinichi's detective rival from the West. Even though Heiji discovers Shinichi's secret, he decides to keep quiet (though sometimes he slips up and calls him Kudo in front of others). After Heiji realizes the truth they become close friends with a common interest in solving mysteries. They have solved many cases together, and Heiji is the person Shinichi turns to for advice or for confirmation regarding a deduction.

==== Kaitou Kid ====
Despite the fact [[Toichi Kuroba|Toichi]] and Shinichi only met once prior to Toichi's death, it's worth mentioning Toichi referred to Shinichi as his "older brother" and himself as the "younger brother". This is because of Yusaku, Shinichi's father, being the '''father''' of the name of Kaitou '''Kid''', Toichi's secret identity. Toichi's son and successor, [[Kaito Kuroba|Kaito]], has also only crossed paths with Shinichi as Shinichi once, during the [[The_Gathering_of_the_Detectives!_Kudo_Shinichi_vs._Kaitou_Kid|Clocktower heist]]. Kaito thought Shinichi made the heist harder (and thus less boring) in [[Saguru Hakuba]]'s absence, and Shinichi found Kid's intention of 'stealing' the Clocktower in order to save it from demolition to be fairly admirable.

In their next encounter, however, after Shinichi had become Conan, Kid disguised himself as Ran in order to steal the Suzuki Black Star pearl. When Conan cornered him on the Suzuki cruise ship, Kid suggested that he'd stolen all of Ran's clothes to impersonate her, and left her naked on the deck. While this ended up being a bluff, Conan was shocked and infuriated. In subsequent encounters between Kid and Conan, Conan displays a much more intense desire to capture Kid. In several instances he appears to be able to 'sense' Kid's presence; knowing Kid is close by often causes Conan to behave far more frenetically. However, in several instances, beginning with the "Big Adventure in the Eccentric Residence" case, when Kid does Conan/Shinichi a favor, such as saving Genta's life in the aforementioned case, Conan reciprocates by halting his investigation just shy of capturing Kid, thereby allowing him to escape unhindered.

== People who know Conan's real identity ==

There are only a few characters in the series who know Conan's real identity and none have betrayed Conan's identity to date. The main characters to know the secret are [[Hiroshi Agasa]], Conan's parents, [[Heiji Hattori]] and [[Ai Haibara]]. [[Sharon Vineyard]] also knows, but for unknown reasons she has kept it a secret from the rest of the Organization. [[Eisuke Hondou]], the younger brother of C.I.A. agent [[Hidemi Hondou]], also knows and keeps Conan's secret. [[Kaitou Kid]] also knows Conan's identity in the movies, though it is not clear whether he knows Conan's secret in the actual anime and manga. However, Kid seems to know there is something unusual about Conan, as whenever he tries to publicly steal he usually reveals that he only wants to compete with Conan as thief and detective.

==Plot Overview==
Because the main plot revolves around the fact that Shinichi has become 'Conan' and is forced into hiding, Shinichi himself appears rarely in the series. However, Conan is frequently shown calling Ran using his voice-changing bow tie to sound like Shinichi. In these instances, it can be said that the character of Shinichi, albeit in the body of Conan, is appearing, since these phone conversations allow Shinichi to be himself, however briefly.

===Transformations back into Shinichi===
Shinichi appeared in the pilot episode, but by the end he had been transformed into Conan, thus beginning the series' plot.

His next appearance was in [[Volume 10]], when a strange detective from Osaka named [[Heiji Hattori]] arrived at Mouri Detective Agency looking for Shinichi in order to determine which of them was the better detective. In [[Volume 26]], Conan was able to become Shinichi using a prototype that [[Ai Haibara]] synthesized. As himself, he tried to surprise Ran by disguising himself as a character in her play, but was interrupted by a murder case and ended up revealing himself to his entire high school. [[Heiji Hattori]] covered for him and Shinichi was able to spend about 48 hours as himself, albeit with a brief collapse about halfway through, and turned back into Conan just as he seemed to be about to confess his feelings to Ran.<ref>{{cite book |last=Aoyama |first=Gosho |title=Case Closed |volume=26 |publisher=Viz Media |chapter=Files 1-7 |language=English |location=San Francisco}}(The Desperate Revival)</ref>

Shinichi's next appearance was not until [[Volume 62]], when, while on a case with Heiji, Conan went missing and 'Shinichi' seemed to appear. However, the 'Shinichi' is actually someone who had gotten plastic surgery to look like Kudou Shinichi, and was actually trying to blame Kudo for a murder. Then the real Shinichi, who had been hiding in the forest until he could clear his name, appeared. It was revealed he had been temporarily restored by another of Ai's prototypes.<ref>{{cite book |last=Aoyama |first=Gosho |title=Case Closed |volume=62 |publisher=Shogakukan |chapter=Files 5-10 |language=English |location=Tokyo}} (Kudo Shinichi, Murderer?!)</ref> After the case, however, Shinichi transform back to Conan, but luckily, Haibara secretly followed him there and give him another antidote, saving him from revealing his identity to Kogoro, Ran and Kazuha. While driving home from the case, the group was stopped by another murder which Shinichi and Heiji investigated together, despite increasing pangs that warned of his iminent reversion to Conan. After the case resolved, Ran tried to stop Shinichi from leaving, saying she had something to tell him. Shinichi stopped her, saying "According to my deductions, what you have to say and what I have to say are the same thing." Ran seized his hand while he was transforming back into Conan, and though Haibara knocked her out with Conan's wristwatch, she refused to let go of his hand. Most recently, in [[Volume 71]], the Mouri's were invited to England by a grateful client. However, since 'Conan Edogawa' doesn't have the proper credentials to fly internationally, Ai gave him a prototype pill that Shinichi and Agasa could fly low-profile to England on the same plane that Ran and Kogoro were flying. Ai gave him a second prototype pill for the return journey, but Conan used it while Ran was pursuing him. They came as close as they ever have to openly confessing their feelings for each other, Shinichi told Ran he loved her, but Shinichi soon fled to become Conan again. In Movie 7, Heiji was injured and Kazuha kidnapped; her abductors threatened to kill her unless Heiji showed up for her. Believing Heiji to be unable to do so, Conan contacted Ai and asked if there was any way for him to briefly become Heiji. Ai gave him medicine to simulate the effects of a cold, then the same Chinese liquor that had changed him in his and Heiji's first manga appearance. Conan became Shinichi for approximately an hour, but according to Ai he was extremely weak and sick for the entire time.

In OVA 9, Conan takes another prototype antidote. However, it proves less effective than the prototype she used during the Desperate Revival arc; Conan became Shinichi, but only for a few hours, and remained in a feverish state, unable to wake up until he had reverted back to Conan. During his time unconscious, he had a vivid hallucination that he had grown to age 17 again as Conan and that Ran, aged 27, was about to marry [[Tomoaki Araide]].

At the beginning of the series, Shinichi is a fairly famous high school detective who frequently helps the Tokyo police solve murder mysteries.

One day, Shinichi brings his friend [[Ran Mouri|Ran]] to a local theme park called "Tropical Land", to celebrate her victory in the Metropolitan Karate Championships. He later ends up solving a murder case there.<ref name="episode1">[[Roller Coaster Murder Case|Episode 1: Roller Coaster Murder Case]].</ref> As they are leaving, Shinichi heads off alone to follow a suspicious man in black, [[Vodka]], who was a suspect in the earlier murder. Shinichi witnesses a blackmail exchange between Vodka and a company president in a secluded area just outside the park, but is too engrossed to notice [[Gin]], Vodka's partner, sneak up from behind. Gin knocks him out and forces him to swallow a new experimental poison known as [[APTX 4869]], and they then leave him to die. Besides his intelligence, Shinichi is an extremely skilled soccer player, having been professionally scouted at school but choosing to stay at the amateur level. [[Ai Haibara]] is the third girl that seems to have somewhat romantic feelings for Conan/Shinichi, although she never truly admits it. Indeed, it is a mystery just exactly what she feels for him, whether friendship or otherwise. Some people, such as [[Yukiko Kudo|Conan's mother]] and [[Gin]], have stated that she has feelings for Conan. It could be said that, because of their almost equal level of intelligence as well as similarities in their pasts (i.e. they're both victims of the [[APTX 4869]]), she finds it easier to talk to him.

==== His parents ====
[[Yusaku Kudo|Yusaku]] and [[Yukiko Kudo|Yukiko]] Kudo are both aware that [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] is in fact Shinichi. His parents are even more famous than he is, with Yusaku being a famous mystery novelist and Yukiko being a retired actress. They currently live in the United States and travel extensively, having left Shinichi in Japan on his own when he was fourteen. Though he sometimes finds his parents' carefree ways to be annoying, he loves them dearly. Yusaku is also a detective with the same keen eye for details, and similarly to Holmes' brother Mycroft, Yusaku always seems to solve a case one step ahead of his son.

==== Professor Agasa ====
Although not related by blood, there's a strong family-like bond between Shinichi and [[Hiroshi Agasa]]. Dr Agasa was the first to know about Shinichi's real identity and was the one to tell him to keep it a secret. Most of the gadgets that Shinichi has where made by Dr Agasa to help him catch the criminals and solve the cases. Dr Agasa also knows about Shinichi's romantic relationship with Ran and sometimes teases him about it in front of her (when he can't do anything about it since he is Conan).

==== Heiji Hattori ====
[[Heiji Hattori|Heiji]] is often referred to as Shinichi's detective rival from the West. Even though Heiji discovers Shinichi's secret, he decides to keep quiet (though sometimes he slips up and calls him Kudo in front of others). After Heiji realizes the truth they become close friends with a common interest in solving mysteries. They have solved many cases together, and Heiji is the person Shinichi turns to for advice or for confirmation regarding a deduction.

==== Kaitou Kid ====
Despite the fact [[Toichi Kuroba|Toichi]] and Shinichi only met once prior to Toichi's death, it's worth mentioning Toichi referred to Shinichi as his "older brother" and himself as the "younger brother". This is because of Yusaku, Shinichi's father, being the '''father''' of the name of Kaitou '''Kid''', Toichi's secret identity. Toichi's son and successor, [[Kaito Kuroba|Kaito]], has also only crossed paths with Shinichi as Shinichi once, during the [[The_Gathering_of_the_Detectives!_Kudo_Shinichi_vs._Kaitou_Kid|Clocktower heist]]. Kaito thought Shinichi made the heist harder (and thus less boring) in [[Saguru Hakuba]]'s absence, and Shinichi found Kid's intention of 'stealing' the Clocktower in order to save it from demolition to be fairly admirable.

In their next encounter, however, after Shinichi had become Conan, Kid disguised himself as Ran in order to steal the Suzuki Black Star pearl. When Conan cornered him on the Suzuki cruise ship, Kid suggested that he'd stolen all of Ran's clothes to impersonate her, and left her naked on the deck. While this ended up being a bluff, Conan was shocked and infuriated. In subsequent encounters between Kid and Conan, Conan displays a much more intense desire to capture Kid. In several instances he appears to be able to 'sense' Kid's presence; knowing Kid is close by often causes Conan to behave far more frenetically. However, in several instances, beginning with the "Big Adventure in the Eccentric Residence" case, when Kid does Conan/Shinichi a favor, such as saving Genta's life in the aforementioned case, Conan reciprocates by halting his investigation just shy of capturing Kid, thereby allowing him to escape unhindered.

== People who know Conan's real identity ==

There are only a few characters in the series who know Conan's real identity and none have betrayed Conan's identity to date. The main characters to know the secret are [[Hiroshi Agasa]], Conan's parents, [[Heiji Hattori]] and [[Ai Haibara]]. [[Sharon Vineyard]] also knows, but for unknown reasons she has kept it a secret from the rest of the Organization. [[Eisuke Hondou]], the younger brother of C.I.A. agent [[Hidemi Hondou]], also knows and keeps Conan's secret. [[Kaitou Kid]] also knows Conan's identity in the movies, though it is not clear whether he knows Conan's secret in the actual anime and manga. However, Kid seems to know there is something unusual about Conan, as whenever he tries to publicly steal he usually reveals that he only wants to compete with Conan as thief and detective.

==Plot Overview==
Because the main plot revolves around the fact that Shinichi has become 'Conan' and is forced into hiding, Shinichi himself appears rarely in the series. However, Conan is frequently shown calling Ran using his voice-changing bow tie to sound like Shinichi. In these instances, it can be said that the character of Shinichi, albeit in the body of Conan, is appearing, since these phone conversations allow Shinichi to be himself, however briefly.

===Transformations back into Shinichi===
Shinichi appeared in the pilot episode, but by the end he had been transformed into Conan, thus beginning the series' plot.

His next appearance was in [[Volume 10]], when a strange detective from Osaka named [[Heiji Hattori]] arrived at Mouri Detective Agency looking for Shinichi in order to determine which of them was the better detective. A strange combination of having a cold and drinking [[baijiu]] that Heiji had brought along allowed Conan to briefly grow into Shinichi once again.<ref>{{cite book |last=Aoyama |first=Gosho |title=Case Closed |volume=10 |publisher=Viz Media |isbn=1-4215-0316-6|chapter=Files 2-6 |language=English |location=San Francisco}}(The Case of the Murdered Diplomat)</ref>

In [[Volume 26]], Conan was able to become Shinichi using a prototype that [[Ai Haibara]] synthesized. As himself, he tried to surprise Ran by disguising himself as a character in her play, but was interrupted by a murder case and ended up revealing himself to his entire high school. [[Heiji Hattori]] covered for him and Shinichi was able to spend about 48 hours as himself, albeit with a brief collapse about halfway through, and turned back into Conan just as he seemed to be about to confess his feelings to Ran.<ref>{{cite book |last=Aoyama |first=Gosho |title=Case Closed |volume=26 |publisher=Viz Media |chapter=Files 1-7 |language=English |location=San Francisco}}(The Desperate Revival)</ref>

Shinichi's next appearance was not until [[Volume 62]], when, while on a case with Heiji, Conan went missing and 'Shinichi' seemed to appear. However, the 'Shinichi' is actually someone who had gotten plastic surgery to look like Kudou Shinichi, and was actually trying to blame Kudo for a murder. Then the real Shinichi, who had been hiding in the forest until he could clear his name, appeared. It was revealed he had been temporarily restored by another of Ai's prototypes.<ref>{{cite book |last=Aoyama |first=Gosho |title=Case Closed |volume=62 |publisher=Shogakukan |chapter=Files 5-10 |language=English |location=Tokyo}} (Kudo Shinichi, Murderer?!)</ref> After the case, however, Shinichi transform back to Conan, but luckily, Haibara secretly followed him there and give him another antidote, saving him from revealing his identity to Kogoro, Ran and Kazuha. While driving home from the case, the group was stopped by another murder which Shinichi and Heiji investigated together, despite increasing pangs that warned of his iminent reversion to Conan. After the case resolved, Ran tried to stop Shinichi from leaving, saying she had something to tell him. Shinichi stopped her, saying "According to my deductions, what you have to say and what I have to say are the same thing." Ran seized his hand while he was transforming back into Conan, and though Haibara knocked her out with Conan's wristwatch, she refused to let go of his hand. Most recently, in [[Volume 71]], the Mouri's were invited to England by a grateful client. However, since 'Conan Edogawa' doesn't have the proper credentials to fly internationally, Ai gave him a prototype pill that Shinichi and Agasa could fly low-profile to England on the same plane that Ran and Kogoro were flying. Ai gave him a second prototype pill for the return journey, but Conan used it while Ran was pursuing him. They came as close as they ever have to openly confessing their feelings for each other, Shinichi told Ran he loved her, but Shinichi soon fled to become Conan again. Shinichi has appeared in several flashbacks, most notably the flashback of his trip to New York City with [[Ran Mouri | Ran]] when they were sixteen in [[Volume 35]]. There, they met [[Vermouth]] and [[Shuichi Akai]] for the first time.

===Non-Canonical Appearances===
In Movie 7, Heiji was injured and Kazuha kidnapped; her abductors threatened to kill her unless Heiji showed up for her. Believing Heiji to be unable to do so, Conan contacted Ai and asked if there was any way for him to briefly become Heiji. Ai gave him medicine to simulate the effects of a cold, then the same Chinese liquor that had changed him in his and Heiji's first manga appearance. Conan became Shinichi for approximately an hour, but according to Ai he was extremely weak and sick for the entire time.

In OVA 9, Conan takes another prototype antidote. However, it proves less effective than the prototype she used during the Desperate Revival arc; Conan became Shinichi, but only for a few hours, and remained in a feverish state, unable to wake up until he had reverted back to Conan. During his time unconscious, he had a vivid hallucination that he had grown to age 17 again as Conan and that Ran, aged 27, was about to marry [[Tomoaki Araide]].
