== Biography ==
Kamanaka has participated animation productions since 1997. In 2007, he joined the ''Detective Conan'' [[anime]] production, starting with [[The Shadow of the Black Organization|The Strange Illumination]]. He afterwards constantly did organize, storyboard, and episode director. After [[Koujin Ochi]] became a director, Kamanaka mainly served as the director of openings and endings.

From 2008 to 2012, Kamanaka accompanied with [[Nobuyuki Iwai]] and served as a delegate for Iwai's animation team. After Yasuichiro Yamamoto became a director in 2012, Kamanaka got transformed to work as episode director under [[Kenichi Otomo]]'s animation team. Owing to he was the director of the series ''[[Wikipedia: A Certain Scientific Accelerator|A Certain Scientific Accelerator]]'' (とある科学の一方通行) in 2019<ref group="Note">After drawing some storyboards for the opening of that series, he was hospitalised due to intracerebral hemorrhage, therefore, the relative storyboard works was left for Tsuneo Tominaga (富永恒雄).</ref>, he temporarily ceased working for ''Detective Conan''. == Biography ==
Kamanaka has participated animation productions since 1997. In 2007, he joined the ''Detective Conan'' [[anime]] production, starting with [[The Shadow of the Black Organization|The Strange Illumination]]. He afterwards constantly did organize, storyboard, and episode director. After [[Koujin Ochi]] became a director, Kamanaka mainly served as the director of openings and endings.

From 2008 to 2012, Kamanaka accompanied with [[Nobuyuki Iwai]] and served as a delegate for Iwai's animation team. After Yasuichiro Yamamoto became a director in 2012, Kamanaka got transformed to work as episode director under [[Kenichi Otomo]]'s animation team. Owing to he was the director of the series ''[[Wikipedia: A Certain Scientific Accelerator|A Certain Scientific Accelerator]]'' (とある科学の一方通行) in 2019<ref group="Note">After drawing some storyboards for the opening of that series, he was hospitalised due to intracerebral hemorrhage, therefore, the relative storyboard works was left for Tsuneo Tominaga (富永恒雄).</ref>, he temporarily ceased working for ''Detective Conan''. He works as character designer for Detective Conan anime, except from episodes 356 to 504, which was done by [[Mari Tominaga]]. == Biography ==
His first exposure to the industry was in 1980, when he did the in-between animation for ''[[wikipedia:Ashita no Joe|Ashita no Joe 2]]'' ({{lang|ja|あしたのジョー2}}). His first attempt of being an animation director was for ''PEACHBOY LEGEND'' ({{lang|ja|桃太郎伝説}}), in 1989. He then served as the chief animation director and character design for two movies of ''Lupin III'' ({{lang|ja|ルパン三世}}), from 1994 to 1995. He is currently a freelance animator, but formerly belonged to Studio AnnaPluck ({{lang|ja|スタジオあんなぷる}}), he mainly works for [[TMS Entertainment]].

'''Masatomo Sudo is the person with the greatest influence on the animation style''' of the ''Detective Conan'' anime. He has served as the character designer of the anime since episode 1. After that, he did animation director work for some other episodes as well. Due to the fact that the character settings from the original manga had not yet been optimised and mature, Sudo's animation style unsteady too, which in turn contributed to more round-like character facial features. After a year progressed, the character design of the anime had settled down; the outlines of the characters' chins became rather appreciable. However, in 1997, Sudo's activity in the ''Detective Conan'' [[anime]] had decreased sharply, as he focused more on [[movies]] (Sudo has always served as the chief animation director and character design for the movies). But he still returned for some prominent episodes, such as [[Diplomat Murder Case]], [[The Twenty Year Old Murderous Intent: The Symphony Serial Murder Case]], [[The 3 "K"s of Osaka Case]] etc.

Notably, in 2000, Sudo altered the character design of the series: Conan's jaw became more angular, and so was the other characters, they had a high resemblance to the original manga. In addition to those capable animation directors that the anime production team hired back then (for example [[Atsushi Aono]], [[Miwa Oshima]], [[Keiko Sasaki]]...), this increased the quality of the animation. In 2002, the anime switched to full-digital production. As a result, Sudo had done some fine-tuning on his character design, making the characters' chins even more noticeable. Allegedly, he himself disclosed that in order to make his character design sheets as close to the original work as possible, he always draws and traces some paintings from the manga before alterating the character design.

During the director [[Masato Sato]] era, the anime production undertook a big alteration. In which Sudo was transformed to work for the movies completely, accordingly, the ''Detective Conan'' anime character design was changed to [[Mari Tominaga]]. Sudo then became the anime character design again in 2008, working along with [[Junko Yamanaka]], and later also with [[Seiji Muta]] and [[Nobuyuki Iwai]] respectively. During this time when [[Koujin Ochi]] was in charge of the ''Detective Conan'' anime direction, Sudo began to serve as "animation supervisor"<ref group="Note">This role was in fact only properly introduced by the next director [[Yasuichiro Yamamoto]], despite Ochi being the one who first created the notion of this role. This role basically corrects the the work that has already been corrected by an animation director from the frames the key animators drew.</ref> for the anime in episodes 507-517; even he was not credited, but his peculiar art style was being recognised by several fans<ref group="Note">Junko Yamanaka's art style was also being recognised. In the ending credits of the compilation movie [[The Scarlet Alibi]], it was clearly shown that Yamanaka worked as an animation supervisor during this period, which backs up this "fan speculation".</ref>.

In 2012, Ochi stepped down as director, and [[Yasuichiro Yamamoto]] became the director again. After that, animation supervisors began to get their credits in the ending of the anime. Sudo, meanwhile, started to experiment with different drawing techniques; thick outlines were widely used thereupon. Especially after 2021's 1000 remake of [[The Moonlight Sonata Murder]], Sudo extended the use of thick outlines, and many other animators had also begun to use them. Nevertheless, Sudo's involvement in the ''Detective Conan'' anime has decreased drastically nowadays, but he still returns and occasionally serves as the animation supervisor or chief animation director for some significant anime episodes.

== Background ==
Vermouth's background is very mysterious because she has been secretly living at least two lives through the art of disguise: that of actress Sharon Vineyard (now "deceased") and her supposed daughter, Chris Vineyard.

As the actress Sharon Vineyard, Vermouth gained much fame on Broadway and in movies, even winning an Oscar. Even then, she was a member of the Black Organization. Twenty years ago, she murdered [[Jodie Starling]]'s [[FBI]] father who had collected information on her. Jodie Starling would eventually grow up to be an FBI agent and one of Vermouth's most bitter enemies. As Sharon, Vermouth became close friends with [[Yukiko Kudo]] back when they were studying disguise under [[Toichi Kuroba]].

At some point Sharon began to pretend to have a daughter named Chris, who she did not got along with after she played a rude prank. That fact might have serve as a pretext to why the two 'identities' wouldn't be seen together in public. While Sharon was still alive, Chris kept out of the public eye except for acting in movies and giving interviews. Less than one year ago, Vermouth staged Sharon Vineyard's death, which allowed Chris to come out publicly. Currently, Vermouth serves the Black Organization with the public name Chris Vineyard.

Vermouth is the [[The Boss|boss]]' favorite which grants her some independence. Vermouth also has some particular connection to the boss that she does not want known by the greater organization, which [[Bourbon]] is blackmailing her with.<ref>Manga Volume 85, File 898: "Scarlet Epilogue"</ref> She also appears not to age or have de-aged over a period of twenty years between when she killed Jodie's parents and her current appearance. She doesn’t seem to like [[APTX 4869|the research]] that [[Shiho Miyano]] and [[Atsushi Miyano|her]] [[Elena Miyano|parents]] engaged in, calling it “foolish". <ref>[[Volume 42#File 434 - Rotten Apple|Volume 42, File 434: "Rotten Apple"]]</ref>

Vermouth entered the storyline some time after [[Ai Haibara|Shiho Miyano/Sherry/Ai Haibara]]'s mysterious flight from the Organization. Her main objective was to track down and eliminate the 'traitor', and for that purpose she assumed the identity of doctor [[Tomoaki Araide]]. But although she managed to discover Shiho's reversion into a child, she did not succeed in killing her, as she met [[Conan Edogawa]], who was able to discover and thwart her plans. She also encountered the FBI during this process.

Vermouth has great personal interest in Conan, constantly calling him "[[Silver Bullet]]". Since it has been revealed that she knows about Ai and Kudo's reversion to their child forms, she seems to know the shrinking effect the drug can have, but for reasons yet unrevealed she keeps this knowledge secret from the rest of the Organization.

== Personality ==
Although she follows orders from the boss and [[Gin]] when he is charge of missions, Vermouth often acts according to her own agenda and whims, even when it runs contrary to the [[Black Organization]]'s best interests. She is secretive and manipulative, even towards other Organization members. Vermouth is confident in her abilities, is very bold, and an expert at manipulating situations to her advantage: traits which allow her to single-handedly weave complex plots and take the upper hand even while she is being monitored by enemies. She is intelligent and insightful, correctly suspecting the allegiance of Kir, but she was successfully outwitted by [[Conan]] and forced by [[Shuichi Akai]] to retreat.

Vermouth's personality is contradictory at times. On one hand, she is a cruel and ruthless agent who will blackmail an unwilling man to commit murder by threatening him and his family just to provide a distraction and happily tell [[Jodie Starling|an FBI agent]] she should smile because she will see her dead father again in heaven. On the other hand, she risks her life several times to protect Conan (Cool Guy), [[Ran]] (Angel), and [[Kogoro]], and her friendly behavior while in disguise as Tomoaki Araide left the real Araide wondering if Vermouth is really a bad person. This inconsistency may reflect an underlying conflict of conscience after [[Shinichi]] (Cool Guy / Silver Bullet) and Ran (Angel) saved her life during the events of the [[Vermouth_timeline#Golden_Apple_Case_.28Manga:_350-354_Anime:_286-288.29|Golden Apple case]]. Vermouth also appears to be an atheist at first as she claims to not believe in God nor angels until Ran unknowingly rescued her which seemed to have given her back some faith.

At this point, Vermouth's motives are very mysterious. She knows about Conan being Shinichi, as well as that Haibara is Sherry, yet she has kept this information a secret from the rest of the Organization. She dislikes the Miyano family's research. She also retains personal feelings for persons who have earned a special place in her heart, such as Shinichi/Conan (Cool Guy) (as the son of [[Yukiko Kudo|her best friend]]) and [[Ran Mouri|Ran]] (Angel).<ref name="e288">[[Shinichi Kudo's New York Case|Episode 288: Shinichi Kudo's New York Case, Part 3]].</ref> As a result, she is highly unwilling to do them any harm even when she is ordered to do so.

While she does kill people, something suggests that she is not much into killing children. When Jodie, as a child, caught Vermouth, Vermouth didn't kill her directly but instead asked her to stay in the house, which she later set on fire. It could mean that she doesn't like to kill children directly. And when she questions a young witness, [[Toji Funemoto]], about Kir's accident, she lets him live.

Vermouth is able to mimic anyone's appearance and voice exactly with her disguise and acting skills even after observing them for only a short period of time. Vermouth frequently utilizes latex masks. Her confidence and skill in disguise and imitation means she can execute bold plans that put her in very close contact with her targets and she can advance her plot even when they are suspicious of her. Without the aid of the other organization members, Vermouth successfully snuck into the [[Tokyo Metropolitan Police|Tokyo Metropolitan Police headquarters]] in order to steal the records of [[Kogoro Mouri]]'s cases. She later returned them when presumably the surveillance would be even higher after the police noticed the files were missing. She then single-handedly staked out the [[FBI]] who were lured out into watching Kogoro Mouri and uncovered their numbers, addresses, and ways to contact them.

Vermouth disguises as a brown haired policeman in a dark suit with glasses to check on [[Irish]]'s progress and the integrity of his disguise during the conference. After texting the boss outside the bathroom, she exits the building and leaves in [[Vehicles in Detective Conan#Gin's Porsche 356 A|Gin's Porsche 356 A]].

She is seen again disguising as a young brown-haired woman when trying to come closer to the believed serial killer but leaves as soon as she realizes he is not. [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] tracks her down in the underground parking lot and makes her reveal herself. She gives Conan essential information about an organization member named Irish and wishes him good luck when leaving.
It is later revealed that she was the one who supervised the captured [[Kiyonaga Matsumoto|Superintendent Matsumoto]] and provided him with comestibles. When the police finds out about Matsumoto's remains, she informs [[Gin]] about it and leaves.

In order to camouflage the fact that Sharon Vineyard and Chris Vineyard are the same person, Vermouth concocted personal histories for her real life cover roles in order to make them seem like different people. When Sharon and Chris Vineyard were revealed to be one and the same, at least part of the stated Vineyard family history was revealed to be a lie. The fall-out between mother and daughter probably serves as an excuse to why the two of them never are seen together. It is unknown how much of the remainder is truthful, based on the truth, or outright fabrication because the primary source of the information is Vermouth herself who may have more to hide.

Little is known of Sharon Vineyard's mother and father. Jodie's father in the FBI was secretly investigating Vermouth twenty years before the current storyline.<ref name="f433" /> That is too young for Chris Vineyard to be in disguise as she is only 29 currently and would be 9 at the time. After Vermouth killed Jodie's father she inadvertently handled Jodie’s father’s glasses barehanded which had fallen off of him and got her fingerprints on them. Unexpectedly, little Jodie came in and saw Vermouth holding the glasses. When Vermouth left after setting the house on fire, she didn't anticipate that Jodie left to get juice, taking her father’s glasses with her and thus preserving her fingerprint. After she discovered Jodie's corpse was not found in the house, Vermouth looked for the girl desperately in order to rectify her mistake, but Jodie had since been put into witness protection.

Jodie suspected Chris Vineyard of being Vermouth when she saw her at Sharon’s funeral. She somehow determined Chris Vineyard’s prints matched those of the glasses. Chris would have been too young to commit a crime 20 years ago, so later Jodie obtained Sharon’s fingerprints and matched those as well. All three matched, proving to Jodie that the three people were one and the same.

Conan realizes [[Tomoaki Araide]] is Vermouth because Vermouth needed the files to testify at the trial properly while in disguise.

Conan first suspects there is another Black Organization member who was present at the mourning party after considering how Pisco obtained another purple handkerchief which enabled him to leave the investigation. Conan didn't realize that this Black Organization member might be after him or Haibara until after the bus jack case when Haibara tells Conan there was definitely someone from the Organization on the bus. Conan gets his first tangible proof someone is investigating around him when [[Wataru Takagi|Takagi]] informs Conan all the records of [[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro]]'s cases were stolen from the police station on the day of the bus hijack incident and later returned.<ref name="f336p9">[[Volume 33#File 336 - Clean Scent|Volume 33, File 336, pages 9-10: "Clean Scent"]]</ref> He begins to wonder who the target is and suspects Shuichi may be behind the incident because of the timing. Conan's idea that Pisco had an accomplice among the other suspects has fully solidified. He has noticed one of the suspects who had a purple handkerchief, [[Chris Vineyard]], hasn't appeared in public since that case, thus Conan believes Chris is the Black Organization accomplice. He asks [[Agasa]] to go onto Chris's fansite and gather information on her past, interests, and habits<ref name="f341p3">[[Volume 34#File 341 - The Hint That Was Against|Volume 34, File 341, page 3: "The Hint That Was Against"]]</ref> and Agasa's investigation corroborates with Conan's deduction.<ref name="f344p9" /> Conan is already aware that Chris Vineyard has disguise abilities and may be in disguise as someone around him.<ref name="f343p17" />

At this point, Conan is still uncertain of Araide, Jodie, and Shuichi's allegiances. He learns from [[Ran Mouri|Ran Mouri]] that Shuichi Akai was seen with a man in an [[Federal Bureau of Investigation|FBI]] jacket during the New York case, causing Conan to wonder if the FBI is in Japan for some reason or the Black Organization infiltrated the American law enforcement.<ref name="f380p5">[[Volume 37#File 380 - White Snow... By the time Conan gets the letter from Vermouth inviting him the off-season Halloween mystery party, he has realized that Vermouth is most likely Dr. Araide because Jodie wasn't in Mouri's case files when they were stolen, while Araide was. Vermouth needed the files to give proper testimony at the trial and to act correctly as Araide. Vermouth puts her plan to capture Haibara into action by calling Agasa's house as Dr. Araide saying he wants to take Haibara to a hospital because her cough hasn't gotten better.<ref name="f430p9">[[Volume 42#File 430 - The Haunted Ship Painted with Blood|Volume 42, File 430, page 9: "The Haunted Ship Painted with Blood"]]</ref> Conan is still unsure of Jodie's allegiance until she answers the door before Dr. Araide arrives. The murder was masterminded by Yoshiteru Araide's second wife, Yoko Araide. She caused a blackout to occur while she was supposedly on the phone, and during the ensuing darkness, snuck to the bathroom and put an electric shaver in the bathtub. She then crept back and asked the housemaid [[Hikaru Yasumoto]] to flip the circuit breaker, causing Yoshiteru Araide to be electrocuted. "Sleeping Kogoro", the police, and the criminal decided to create a false investigation record to protect the conscience of the maid Hikaru. Jodie used this to her advantage and forced Vermouth to reveal that she didn't know the true sequence of events.<ref name="f432p11">[[Volume 42#File 432 - Shinichi Kudo Appears!?|Volume 42, File 432, page 11: "Shinichi Kudo Appears!?"]]</ref>

At the same time Shinichi and Ran were in New York City, Vermouth disguised as a silver-haired serial killer in order to lure out [[Shuichi Akai]]. Later, Conan suspected the serial killer may have been someone in disguise when he heard that the serial killer’s blood and fingerprints on the stair rails were cleaned up, an action uncharacteristic for someone intending to commit suicide.<ref name=354p3>Manga [[Volume 35]], File 5 (354), pg 3: "Golden Apple 5". Note that Conan had not figured out everything completely at this point.</ref><ref>Manga [[Volume 37]], File 8 (380), pg 6: "White Snow... Black Shadow...". Conan is now convinced that the serial killer was killed. He had begun suspecting Shuichi Akai previously, and he still does at this point after Ran informs him Shuichi is an FBI agent, because Shuichi could be a spy in the FBI from the Black Organization.</ref> Sharon was the only person Conan knew about in the local area with high disguise abilities, so suspicion naturally fell onto her.

After Vermouth disguised as Araide, Conan deduced from the way Vermouth was behaving that she was trying to avoid involving Conan in her plan and was only targeting Haibara. Vermouth as Dr. Araide risked her life to protect Conan in the bus jack case and helped him out in Sato's matchup case. When Conan gets the letter from Vermouth inviting him the off-season Halloween mystery party, he realizes that Vermouth's intentions are to only trap Haibara and that Vermouth is trying to lure Conan to the party to avoid catching him up in her plan.

Conan who didn't exist a year ago has no reason to be “protected” by Vermouth. Conan deduces Vermouth must know his identity as Shinichi and the reason for her “protection” must have to do with something he did as Shinichi. However, Sharon was the only one Shinichi had a connection with, and she is apparently dead. Sharon’s daughter Chris has never met Shinichi and is estranged from Sharon Vineyard so she alone doesn't have an adequate motive to protect Shinichi. Also, it wouldn’t make sense for Chris Vineyard, who isn’t a family friend like Sharon, to be able to recognize Shinichi as Conan; presumably Vermouth saw young Shinichi with Yukiko when she was Sharon.<ref>Manga [[Volume 42]], File 10, pg 5</ref>

All these clues come together when Conan makes the assumption that Sharon Vineyard is Chris Vineyard who disguised as the silver haired serial killer in New York and that she is grateful for being rescued by [[Shinichi]] (Cool Guy / Silver Bullet) and [[Ran]] (Angel).<ref name="f429p9">[[Volume 42#File 429 - The Full Moon and the Trap at the Banquet|Volume 42, File 429, page 9: "The Full Moon and the Trap at the Banquet"]]. Vermouth's age is unknown because her history is largely unclear. We know she has lived as Chris who is 29, and as Sharon whose age is unknown. Her face when she killed Jodie's father 20 years ago was youthful, suggesting she is currently at least 40 years old as long as no deaging has occurred...

On the train, when she was talking to Yukiko, Yukiko brought up whatever is used to keep your youthful appearance. She mentiioned about painful that it did not effect the rest of her body, however she sure does not move around like a person in their 40s, and let alone older.

A popular theory on Vermouth's non-aging is that she used [[APTX 4869]] to achieve her youthfulness since this is the only known substance capable of producing such an effect ([[Silver Bullet]]'s effects are unknown at this point). However, at present there are things that contradict such a notion. Vermouth would have faced near certain death if she had used APTX 4869.<ref name=V2/> Before Vermouth discovered Haibara and Conan, the known members of the Black Organization (besides Sherry) only knew about APTX 4869's lethal effects,<ref>Sherry did not report the results that several of her mice shrank to the greater organization because they have not been able to figure out how Shiho managed to escape the locked room. If Gin knew it failed to work some of the time, he would have never left Shinichi alone while it acted, and would have also gone looking for him after his body disappeared if that was the case. Even Shiho Miyano who was aware APTX 4869 could rarely cause de-aging expected it to kill her. It is possible that Atsushi and Elena Miyano had something to do with Vermouth's de-aging/non-aging (e.g. Vermouth was their guinea pig). This might explain the personal animosity Vermouth feels towards the Miyanos and why she calls their APTX experiment foolish.

Vermouth's de-aging/non-aging may be a result of a project older than Shiho's APTX 4869, like her parents' [[Silver Bullet]], or something else even older than that. This would explain why none of the other members of the Black Organization suspect that APTX 4869 can also cause this effect and thus are unaware of the possibility Shiho de-aged to escape.

Another possibility, could be if she ever administered the APTX 4869 orally, as in she hides it in her mouth, and transfers it to her intended target, as in Mary Sera's case, the de-aging effect may had kept her young, while it may kill or make young the target.

After all, she did state her skin care regiment for retaining her youthful glow to Yukiko in [[The Jet-Black Mystery Train]] painfully does not affect the entire body, which hints that it mostly affects the face, and other external appearances.

Yukiko had no idea Sharon was leading a double life as an operative in the Black Organization. Yukiko and Sharon seemed to have kept in contact with one another because Yukiko and Sharon both know about events in each others' lives that occurred after Toichi's lessons. Sharon was the one who got tickets for Yukiko, Shinichi, and Ran to the Golden Apple play on Broadway in New York City one year prior to the current time line. Yukiko attended Sharon's funeral. Later, Yukiko sadly accepts Conan's deduction that Sharon and Chris are the same person and a member of the Black Organization. Vermouth once left Yukiko safe and sound during their confrontation in the Bell Tree Express, implying her soft spot for Shinichi and Yukiko.

Before the events of the showdown on the ghost ship, Vermouth and Gin trusted one another, but some of Gin's trust may have disappeared as Vermouth failed to inform even the boss of her intentions.<ref name="CD239b">Conan Drill page 239, "同僚・信頼" (Colleagues Trusted)</ref> Gin doesn't mind threatening her with bodily harm, he nearly stabbed her through the head with an icepick on one occasion when she teased him disguised as a waiter, and he later pointed his gun at her when asking how she was connected with Kogoro. She doesn't seem especially bothered by any of these threats however. Because Vermouth is a high ranking member and the boss's favorite, she isn't scared of provoking the other agents, not even Gin who is extremely dangerous and sensitive. She smiled after moving her head to avoid Gin's deadly sweep with an icepick telling him that "She was just joking" which shows that she enjoys teasing him.

Shiho fears Vermouth more than most other members except perhaps Gin. Shiho was Vermouth's target, but Vermouth gave up on her after Conan's intervention. During the '[[The Jet-Black Mystery Train|Bell Tree Express arc]]', Vermouth tries to use C4 explosives to kill Sherry without telling anyone about the plan, while Bourbon wanted to take her back alive hinting at an abnormal hatred towards her. She also interfered with his plans to capture Sherry alive by rigging the location Rei intended to trap Sherry in with explosives to kill her,and it probably had nothing to do with her being aware that Gin and Vodka probably placed a ton of explosives at the destination platform, which would have caused the entire train, and everyone on it, including her and Boubon, to blow up as well.

The relationship between the Boss' Favorite and the Boss' Close Aide is somewhat unknown, although Vermouth was once seen taking orders from syndicate's Second-In-Command. Vermouth was tasked to investigate Yusaku Kudo, an individual whom Rum considers a threat to the Black Organization in Yusaku Kudo's TV Show Case.

Suguru Itakura suspected that Vermouth and Tequila were in cahoots when both individuals demanded him to finish a particular program that the Black Organization was interested in.

Throughout the series, Vermouth has not been shown as having any negative emotions regarding [[Vodka]], unlike other members of the Organization (like [[Chianti]] and [[Korn]]). Vodka and Vermouth have been seen along on missions sometimes, but in general they don't pay much attention to each other.
She does tease Vodka about his lack of literary knowledge when he fails to understand how Haido Park could be a place most suited for hunting.

Twenty years before the current timeline, Vermouth goes to the house of Jodie's father, an FBI agent, and kills him. An eight to nine year old [[Jodie Starling]] walks in while Vermouth was trying to put his glasses back on his body and thinks her father is asleep. Vermouth tells her that she should wait for her father to wake up. When the girl asks her who is she, Vermouth replies "A secret makes a woman, woman". Vermouth burns the house down, thinking Jodie stayed behind and was killed as well. However, the girl goes out of the house to buy orange juice for her father, narrowly escaping death. She also takes her father's glasses with her, preserving the fingerprints Vermouth left on them. When Vermouth finds out Jodie's body was not in the house, she looks for her to kill her, but the FBI enrolled her in witness protection. Jodie later becomes an FBI agent in order to find her father's killer.

==== Shuichi Akai ====
Vermouth and [[Shuichi Akai|Shuichi]] don't have much personal animosity for each other in particular despite the fact that they have been hunting one another for some time. Vermouth regards Shuichi as a "silver bullet": someone with the potential to destroy the Black Organization. In accordance with this assessment, she attacks him immediately and preferentially in the confrontation with her at the docks. Shuichi seems to hit a nerve when he called her a rotten apple, wilted on the inside.

After [[Shinichi Kudo|Shinichi]] helped Ran save Vermouth's life in New York while she was disguised as a serial killer, she nicknames him "Cool guy".

Later in the series, after [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] successfully interfered with Vermouth's plan of killing [[Ai Haibara|Haibara]], then almost forced her to surrender and take him to find the boss, she gives him another nickname - "Silver bullet" - as she believes that he has the potential to destroy the Black Organization, because he could touch her heart.

Generally, Vermouth tries to protect Shinichi when she is able to, even if it means risking her own life. Although Shinichi found out later that he unknowingly rescued Vermouth in New York City and that Vermouth was a friend of [[Yukiko Kudo|Yukiko's]], Shinichi doesn't understand why Vermouth would make the promise to give up on hunting Sherry and not inform the [[Black Organization]] about Haibara and himself.

Because of this, Conan does not react strongly when she is mentioned, as opposed to [[Haibara]]. He also seems to consider her less of a threat than the other members because he is able to bargain with her about Haibara and knows Vermouth is keeping his secret for personal reasons.

In [[Head-to-Head Match with the Black Organization: A Dual Mystery on a Full Moon Night|Head-to Head]], After Conan removed his Haibara mask, he was distracted, when Haibara showed up on the scene, which gave Vermouth the needed opening to use his stun gun wrist watch on him, to place him to sleep, before gently sitting him down beside the car, so he does not get hurt in the fall.

She also destroyed the box that he was connected to by many wires, so as not to possibly accidentally kill or hurt him, which pulling out the wires would have, according to Conan.

After she used sleeping gas, in order to knock him back out, so that she can escape, and not lead the Black Organization members to him.

She even covered the sleeping boy up with her coat, so that he would not get sick, since she had literally cut his shirt wide open, in order to see the wires and connected box, which may have made him sick, if he is not found right away, since it is pretty cold, and colds are spreading at this time.

She shot herself in the leg, and had to hobble some distance away from the car, so that he would remain out of sight, and no where around her, when Gin came to pick her up.

In [[the Raven Chaser]], she even provided Conan with the name of [[Irish]], and gave him a little bit of information of why the Organization is interested in this serial murder case.

In [[Black Impact! The Moment the Black Organization Reaches Out|Black Impact]], when she was speaking on the cell phone to [[Gin]], she mentioned hearing noise, and then she thought that Conan may have had something to do with the noise coming from Gin's car, and when Gin asked about what noise, she quickly "Never mind. It is nothing," in order to protect Conan. She also called Conan "My lovely Silver Bullet-kun" once again when she was driving her motorcycle. Also, when the Gin ordered [[Chianti]] and [[Korn]] to kill [[Kogoro Mori]] together with Conan, Vermouth was against it and told them to stop. To the Black Organization, it looked like she was defending Kogoro Mori but she was actually defending Conan.

==== Ran Mouri ====
After Ran saved Vermouth's life in New York City, Vermouth nicknames [[Ran Mouri|Ran]] "Angel". Earlier, Vermouth, as her Sharon Vineyard role, complained that her life was a series of misfortunes and, "No angel has smiled upon me, not even once."<ref name="f350p18" /> Even though Vermouth in disguise prepared to kill Ran later, Ran stopped Vermouth from taking a fatal fall. Vermouth was touched by this act of kindness. Much later in the story when Ran shielded Haibara from gunfire with her body, Vermouth refused to shoot Ran or allow her to be shot, instead firing around her in an attempt to frighten Ran into releasing Haibara. Although Ran does not know who Vermouth really is, she values the handkerchief that Sharon Vineyard gave her back in New York. She also describes her as "one of only two treasures in her life" (the other being Shinichi Kudo) when Ran asked her if she was or wasn't Azusa Enomoto.

====Tomoaki Araide====
Vermouth originally intended to kill Araide and take his place to approach Conan and Haibara more closely. Anticipating this development, the FBI faked his death and Vermouth took his place as expected, giving the FBI an opportunity to investigate Vermouth in close proximity.
While disguised as Tomoaki Araide, Vermouth was extremely well liked and kind to the students and patients. This fact made the real Araide wonder if Vermouth is really a bad person<ref> Teitan High School's Ghost Story</ref>.

====Suguru Itakura====
Vermouth's Target. Sharon and Itakura worked before in movies containing visual effects and the two were known for their constant quarelling. Although Itakura seems to be unaware of Sharon's persona as Vermouth, he follows her orders anyway and partially completed the program that the Black Organization was interested in.

====Yusaku Kudo====
Sharon and Yusaku were probably acquainted through Yukiko Kudo, a friend of Sharon's and Yusaku's wife. Vermouth once investigated him after being tasked by Rum to monitor the individual, considering him a threat to the Black Organization. However, Yusaku saw through the syndicate's ploy and tricked Vermouth into thinking that they are just staying for vacation.
Since Yusaku is Shinichi's Father, it is unclear if Vermouth really meant to kill him when she stated on planning to eliminate the "person of interest" when necessary.

====Kogoro Mouri====
Vermouth once stole Kogoro's files from the police to successfully testify as Tomoaki Araide in court and later returned them in one piece.
Since Kogoro is Ran's Father, Vermouth tried to protect him from being killed by Gin after he was suspected on planting a bug on Kir's shoe, implying her consideration for Ran's feelings and welfare.

====Mary Sera====
Vermouth once disguised as Tsutomu Akai in an attempt to lure out Mary Sera on Vauxhall Bridge in London. <ref>File 1048</ref> She intended to take her place and infiltrate the Secret Intelligence Service. Shuichi Akai is a British American of Japanese descent, originally from England, and is a member of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation, on special assignment in Japan to capture [[Gin]]. His superior is [[James Black]] and his partner is [[Jodie Starling]].<ref>Manga Chapter 434: Rotten Apple 5</ref> He had infiltrated the Black Organization under the name Dai Moroboshi - and the codename "Rye" - as a mole<ref>Manga Chapter 599: Akai's Past</ref> and dated [[Akemi Miyano]], one of their low-ranking members, to feed information to the FBI. 17 years prior to the current timeline, Shuichi's father, [[Tsutomu Akai]], got himself involved in the murder case of Kohji Haneda and Amanda Hughes and disappeared. In his last message he instructed his pregnant wife Mary and their two sons to hide in Japan. Shuichi, determined to investigate his missing father's "incident," convinced his mother to let him study in America. After he left Japan, his younger sister Masumi was born. Shuichi didn't get to meet her until he returned to Japan after seven years in the states, but Shukichi sent him pictures of her. After he had finished school, he joined the FBI.

Five years prior to the current time-line, [[Federal Bureau of Investigation|FBI]] agent Shuichi Akai infiltrated the [[Black Organization]] using the alias Dai Moroboshi as a mole and dated [[Akemi Miyano]], one of their low-ranking members, in order to meet [[Shiho Miyano]], a high-ranked member codenamed Sherry, and use her influence to get into the Black Organization.<ref name=599p9>Manga Volume 58, File 2, pg 9: "Akai's Past"</ref> Although at first he was simply using Akemi as a tool, they both fell in love with each other. Shuichi distinguished himself as an agent and two years prior to the current time-line received the codename Rye and was called to work under executive agent [[Gin]]. He broke up with Akemi to protect her and he lost contact with her after the mission to capture Gin failed. Two years later Akemi got killed by the organization to cut loose ends.

== Personality ==
Shuichi is a tenacious but stoic agent. Even in personal matters, he remains cool, even detached, from anyone, but his redeeming value is a great sense of loyalty to anyone he knows. He is a skilled and relentless pursuer and detective, qualities which have labeled him the number one enemy of the [[Black Organization]] and earned him the nickname "[[Silver Bullet]]". He looks forward to opportunities to hunt the Black Organization down and get revenge for [[Akemi]]. While usually professional, he often acts independently of the FBI, and even his boss [[James Black]] has trouble getting ahold of him. Shuichi gets along well with Conan, who share many personality traits. Despite that he has American citizenship, he still considers England as his home country.

James Black describes Shuichi as an introverted person who doesn't easily get close to people, and further notes that Shuichi has become even more closed off since Akemi's death.<ref name=502p13>Manga Volume 49, File 2, page 13: "New Order"</ref> Shuichi doesn't often voice what he is thinking and has an unhealthy tendency to prioritize his missions above the emotional well-being of his friends, co-workers, family, and love interests.<ref>Shuichi's fake death, while preserving Kir and allowing her to pass confidential information to the FBI, has caused significant dysfunction within the FBI who believe him to be truly dead. Shuichi prefers to plan secretly, and will readily trick his friends and coworkers, even injuring them, if helps the success of his missions.<ref>FBI vs Org, Shuichi didn't tell the rest of the FBI he would cover Kogoro's agency. In Red vs Black, the return Kir plan and the fake death plan were both kept secret from the FBI. He ordered Camel to remove by force if necessary anyone who interfered which resulted in Jodie being knocked out. He later told Kir to hit Camel for real to make her escape look authentic.</ref> Shuichi is often forgiven for these transgressions because his judgment is usually sound and his plans work out well.<ref>In FBI vs Org, Shuichi was forgiven for covering Kogoro without telling his boss and for making the decision on his own to let the Black Organization leave without much resistance because he thought it might lead to a dangerous firefight downtown. Even though he means well, Shuichi is notably clumsy at trying to comfort and connect with others. He is especially dense at recognizing the motives behind the feelings of others and thus how to modify his own behavior to improve relations. As [[Subaru Okiya]], his technique to approach [[Ai Haibara]] leaves her terrified of him, and repeated contact only intensifies her loathing. Ten years ago, he was also cold to young Masumi on their first meeting, brushing Masumi's silly antics aside without realizing that she simply wanted him to smile and treat her kindly, though he most likely was simply in a bad mood, since he just had an intense argument with his mother, in which they traded physical blows, because of his plan to join the FBI after his studies to pursue the case of his father and because he had lied to her about that. Later that day, during the investigation of a case, Shuichi gives both Shinichi and Ran a task to help with the investigation, so Masumi approaches Shuichi shyly and asks for a task as well. Now Shuichi responds kindly and gives her a task that makes her feel important. 

Despite his social awkwardness, Shuichi is not apathetic. He gives Jodie some hope by leaving her a message in his own handwriting, and leaves her a very roundabout hint about his identity after knocking her down even though he cannot reveal the truth to her yet. Eventually he also realized that Masumi was looking up to him, so he began to send her videos of him doing Jeet Kune Do.

== Appearance ==
Shuichi is a tall and fit man of Japanese descent with short wavy hair with strands hanging over his right eye. He is very handsome, as mentioned by Yukiko Kudo. His trademark features, by which people close to him have identified him are his eyes which have permanent bags underneath them that make him appear sleep deprived. Other characters often describe him as evil eyed or having a sharp gaze. His eyes are blue in the manga (like every other character) and green in the anime. He and [[Masumi Sera]] presumably more closely resemble their mother then their father. The second trademark feature is his knit cap, which he is always shown wearing. When he was younger he had a grey fedora which Masumi now wears herself. Up to one year ago, he had very long waist length hair, which he cut after the death of Akemi Miyano "to freshen up." Shuichi is left-handed. Ten years before the present timeline, Shuichi still had short hair, which means he grew it out sometime during the next five years.<ref>File 973</ref> He is a heavy smoker and his favorite drink is whiskey- he has recently taken to drinking bourbon rather than scotch.

Shuichi is a highly intelligent man, recognized as a threat even by Gin. Extremely observant and excellent instincts, he has a knack for seeing through deceptions and reading the patterns of people. Once, after realizing that a transmitter had accidentally been attached to the Black Organization, he set up a sniper ambush at a nearby building to Kogoro's detective agency, knowing that the enemies would try to kill Kogoro after finding the transmitter under the belief Kogoro was spying on them, all to trick the Organization into thinking the bug was his personal trap."<ref>Anime Episode 425: Black Impact! The Moment the Black Organization Reaches Out</ref> He is also very alert to threats on his person, able to sense Rei Furuya/Bourbon and his desire to kill Shuichi under the belief that Shuichi killed Scotch. Basically on par to Shinichi/Conan, Shuichi has a remarkable talent for analysis and deductive reasoning, able to survey the situation and accurately determine the cause of it. During Yusaku Kudo's Cold Case, Shuichi figured out the key point of Sanada coins, solving the case before Conan and even providing him the hint of "Kumogakure Saizou" to lead him to the same conclusion. In the Paper Airplane Case, Shuichi (disguised as Subaru Okiya), he also showed knowledge of Morse code and origami. He was able to deduce along with Yusaku Kudo that the hints of ASACA and MASCARA lead to the name of the Boss of the Black Organization, Karasuma Renya.

Shuichi, is an exceptional crackshot with firearms, the most skilled seen so far. He can shoot a small piece of gum out of Gin's hand from about 700 yards away, even snipe at 1300 yards, well-beyond the range the Black Organization's professional snipers [[Chianti]] and [[Korn]].<ref>Anime Episode 425: Black Impact! The Moment the Black Organization Reaches Out</ref> Shuichi is good at handling shotguns as well; he accurately shot Vermouth from the hip faster than she could aim at him with her subcompact pistol. He is capable of busting a moving car's tire from a speeding car with just a single shot.<ref>Manga Volume 85 File 4 Page 5</ref>

While naturally left-handed, he is ambidextrous, able to wield firearms basically as effectively with his right hand. At the same time Akai is unusual in that he is "eye-bidextrous" while shooting. Shuichi is also a highly proficient hand-to-hand combatant. Having extensive skill and knowledge of Jeet Kune Do, he taught his sister Sera much, who openly acknowledges him to still be much stronger than her.<ref>Episode 744</ref> In the Bus Jack case, Shuichi's combat skills was hinted as he was ready to strike one of the criminals before Conan hit him with the tranquilizer dart. During the Ikkaku Rock case, Shuichi expertly knocks a knife out of the criminal's hand unarmed. Though subtle, Shuichi also swiftly knocks out a drunkard harassing Officer Yumi (at the request of his younger brother) in the Policewomen Serial Murder Case. At the same time, he is noticeable resilient. While taking a serious kick to the face from Ran Mouri, he emerged virtually unharmed, a feat few people have accomplished against her.

He is the one who shoot the suspect at the last part. Shuichi Akai and Akemi Miyano were lovers while he was infiltrating the [[Black Organization]]. Shuichi's original mission was to date Akemi Miyano in order to meet Shiho Miyano. Shuichi used Shiho's influence to gain rank in the Organization, intending to become trusted enough to meet with high level agents so the FBI could capture one for questioning. As [[James Black]] later recalls, although Shuichi's relationship with Akemi was merely a stepping stone, Shuichi actually fell in love with Akemi, and considered her his real girlfriend. Because of this he broke up with [[Jodie Starling]].

How Akemi and Shuichi met in the manga is unknown, but in the anime, Shuichi Akai originally met Akemi by an intentional accident. She accidentally hit him with her car when he deliberately walked into the street in front of her in order to be hit by her.<ref>Episode 497</ref> Akemi was concerned, and helped take him to the hospital, watching over him until he was better. When he woke up, he felt no anger over what she did, and even asked for her name, to which a very flustered Akemi replied, while he told her his fake name: Dai Moroboshi. After this they began dating.

Sometime later, Akemi develops the suspicion that Shuichi really wasn't who he claimed to be. After Shuichi's expulsion, he confirms that he is an FBI agent to her. To Shuichi's surprise, Akemi doesn't seemed surprised by this, so Shuichi asks her why she never said anything about her suspicions that she was being used by him before, and Akemi hints it is because she loves him. Initially, the Organization couldn't do anything about Akemi because they needed the loyalty of her sister, but two years later they decided that the risk of her contact with Shuichi was too much. They decided to create a situation where they could eliminate her by having her do a bank heist she was supposed to fail. Sometime near the day of the heist, Akemi sent Shuichi a long text message, asking him if he wants to be her real boyfriend when she is finally free from the Organization. After the heist, Akemi is killed by [[Gin]], and it is unknown how Shuichi responded if at all. Shuichi treasures her final text message, and keeps it in his phone many months after Akemi's death. The message also contains a P.S. which has not been revealed yet.

While Jodie and Shuichi's relationship had been viewed as mere colleagues, it is revealed later on in the series that Jodie and Shuichi had dated before about 5 years prior. However, after Shuichi infiltrated the Black Organization under the alias of Dai Moroboshi, he started dating Akemi Miyano in hopes of using her to attain information about the Black Organization. Despite this, Shuichi ended up falling in love with Akemi, leading him to break up with Jodie, stating that, "To be able to love two women at the same time…it's not that handy a personality."<ref name="677p5">Manga [[Volume 65]], File 3 (677), pg 5: "The fated individual"</ref> In spite of the break-up, Jodie still held strong feelings for Shuichi which never wavered as time passed and took his apparent death at Kir's hands especially hard, to the point of being reduced to tears.

[[James Black]] is the boss of the [[Federal Bureau of Investigation|FBI]] agents in Japan and therefore the boss of Shuichi. He was one of those who know that Shuichi was alive after Shuichi's fake death, but only because he saw the glue on Shuichi's fingers and would have otherwise also been kept in the dark. The two maintain close contact with each other up to present.

==== Andre Camel ====
[[Andre Camel]] worked with Shuichi Akai before when he was an agent in the [[Black Organization]]. Camel was involved in the plan to capture Gin two years ago, but he gave away the plan of the FBI when he saw a member of the organization disguised as an old man. Because of this, Shuichi's identity became known to the Organization. However, Shuichi does not seem to bear a grudge against Camel but worked together well. Camel is willing to help Akai in any way he can to redeem for his mistake.

When Haibara first met Shuichi, she thought he was a member of the Black Organization. Shuichi seems to know of Haibara's identity. Shuichi and Conan get along well and are capable of thinking on par with one another. In the short time they have worked together, Shuichi has come to respect Conan's intellect and deductive skills and speaks to him professionally. After FBI had capture Kir, he asked who Conan was, hinting that he suspected that there was more to Conan that meets the eyes. He is also aware that [[Conan]] and [[Shinichi Kudo]] are really one and the same person <ref>Manga [[Volume 77]], File 813 p.16 and File 814 p.3 </ref>. There is further speculation amongst fans that Shuichi has figured out that Ai was formerly Sherry and (more than likely) learned about her research for the Black Organization and the two possible effects of [[APTX 4869]].

[[Masumi Sera]] is Shuichi's younger sister. Masumi wasn't born yet when Shuichi went to America to study, so they first got to meet each other, when Masumi was seven. It's indicated at Shuichi cares for his sister. While Masumi was growing up, Shuichi would send her training tapes of Jeet Kune Do that she could practice after. During the [[The Jet-Black Mystery Train|Mystery Train case]], when Masumi was knocked out by Vermouth and hidden in her room, Shuichi (disguised as Subaru) carried her back to her own room. As he was about to leave he overheard her calling out 'Shuu-nii' in her sleep, which made him smile. In the movie [[Dimensional Sniper]] he (as Subaru) was seen leaving the hospital, where Masumi was hospitalized after getting shot, hinting that he was visiting her. While she was unconscious, he left a bouquet in her room, which Ran and Sonoko find. During the [[The Antique Tray Can't Be Hidden|Antique Facet Case]], when he realize Masumi showing suspicious movements around Agasa's house, he shows up as Subaru and keep an eye on her. He realize that Masumi was trying to pressure Haibara. He ended up by interrupting her investigation to prevent Masumi get involved into dangerous situation.

When Yumi is accosted by drunkards, he disguised as Subaru incapacitates them and has them leave her alone.

Shuichi Akai and Gin are rivals and hate one another. It is implied that they didn't get along even before Shuichi was exposed as an undercover FBI agent. Shuichi refers to Gin as "Koibito", which ironically means 'lover.' Gin killed Shuichi's love Akemi, so Shuichi thinks of Gin as his archenemy.

Since joining the Black Organization, [[Rei Furuya]] has always considered Shuichi as a worthy rival, he wants to compare his capacity with Shuichi and thinks he is the only one who could defeat Shuichi. Shuichi always shows respect towards Rei, he admits Rei's capability and feels interest everytime he faces Rei, he also makes Rei feel quite confused sometimes. Their relationship is becoming more bitter and dramatic when Rei misunderstood Shuichi killed his best friend - [[Scotch]], but actually the one who indirectly caused Scotch to die was Rei himself. Shuichi chooses to keep a secret, continues to let Rei misunderstand him instead of letting Rei know that painful truth. Over time, Shuichi appears to help and protect Rei in some cases, he gradually wants to compensate for the losses which Rei has experienced, he also reveals that he doesn't want to be Rei's enemy. For now, Rei is temporarily lowering his hatred to working well with Shuichi and Conan in destroying the Black Organization.

After Vodka received the briefcase of cash, he returned the film evidence of the business' gun smuggling. Vodka may have intended to kill the man when the transaction was complete as he began to draw his gun, but it could also have been in response to the company owner's remark the organization does even worse things than gun smuggling. The man escaped when Gin assaulted Shinichi who had been spying on the transaction and Vodka was distracted. Two years ago Tequila showed up at his office to say he was interested in the particular "system software" Itakura stopped developing. One year later, he was later forced to finish the program with a year deadline. Itakura didn't want to complete the program "not only for his eyesight but for the sake of humanity." He stayed in New Beika Hotel where he was killed by Ryusuke Soma, an unrelated party. He kept a diary and noted Vermouth had a cat around when he talked to her. Conan pretending to be him was told to put the disk in locker 0032. Itakura also helped provide many special effects for films and plays Vermouth and Yukiko Kudo were in. This is presumably how Vermouth hired him for the organization's research as she was seen arguing with him on sets, something she never did with anyone else.

Currently, Conan suspects that Asaka is a strong female bodyguard rather than a male based on Gotta Haito's testimony. In addition, Conan suspects that Asaka may be Rum after examining Kohji Haneda's broken handmirror shown in a picture on the case website. Kohji's broken hand mirror only had the letters PTON. The missing letters "U MASCARA" can be arranged to make the phrase "ASACA RUM". If this message means "Asaka is Rum" or something else is currently unclear, but not only did Okiya and Conan both arrived at that solution, the organization has proven itself to be paranoid about anything related to the name ASACA spelled with a C and seventeen years ago: the letters do indeed hint at something when arranged correctly. [[Bourbon]] was sent to investigate a song titled "Asaca", written by Rokumichi Hado who took a hiatus seventeen years ago. The song and the title turned out to be entirely unrelated to Kohji Haneda's case or the organization.

The assassination plot was called off because Yasuteru Domon decided to stop running for office when the affair information was about to come out anyway. As the organization snipers, Korn and Chianti, prepare to fire at Kogoro, they are interrupted by Conan kicking a soccer ball into Kogoro's window and Shuichi Akai's sniper shots. Thus, Kogoro is saved at the last second by a double effort from Conan and Akai, and the organization is made to believe the FBI planted the tracker. Despite Vermouth's prompting, Gin does not believe that Kogoro is completely innocent. Tooru Amuro investigates and then apprentices himself to Kogoro because Amuro suspected the detective may be connected to Sherry. Kogoro was previously suspected of being linked to Sherry because the [[Criminal Tracking Glasses|tracker]], [[microphone]], and gum combo Gin found on Kir's shoe after [[Black Impact! The Moment the Black Organization Reaches Out|the Ding Dong Dash case]] was the same style as the one Gin [[Reunion with the Black Organization|discovered in his car]] that Sherry supposedly planted. When Gin heard that Gaito Hotta, someone who had information on the [[Case from 17 years ago|Kohji Haneda case]], had been killed and that Kogoro had been involved, his suspicions rose again. The he says "Its like encountering a demon in the darkness... If that guy is the demon, then we've got to finish him off while he sleeps."

Unfortunately for Bourbon, Tohei had just been pickpocketed by a female thief and he got caught up in a murder case where she's the victim. After the case is over, Bourbon returned the stolen purse to Tohei's unconscious body and left him to eventually wake up. Some point later, the police arrived at Tohei's apartment to question him about the pickpocketing case but he declared he did not know anything regarding the murder of the pickpocket. At this point it appears that Bourbon and the organization have no further interest in Tohei Benzaki. It is very unlikely that the real Tohei Benzaki had any involvement in the Teito Bank Heist, instead this backstory was fabricated by Bourbon.

[[Natsuko Shibuya]] is a Japanese friend of Jodie Starling's whom she helped in a case while she was studying abroad in America. Tooru Amuro was hired by Shibuya because she was being stalked and they met multiple times. One of these times, Amuro stole her phone and texted Jodie while pretending to be Shibuya, asking Jodie to go out for drinks. Jodie contacted Shibuya back via Camel's phone. Bourbon then planned to have Shibuya get into an accident, possibly by running her over with his car. Before Amuro could attack her himself, another person attacked Shibuya first. When the police came to the accident, they contacted Camel because it was one of the most recent phone numbers used. [[Vermouth]] copied Jodie's clothing while Amuro participated in solving the case. Vermouth then lured Jodie and Camel to the hospital by pretending to be a nurse calling in to report that Shibuya's condition had become critical. In the end, Amuro and Vermouth were able to trick Camel into revealing that [[Rikumichi Kusuda]] killed himself. Shibuya was fine in reality and recovered without incident. It is unclear how Amuro found out she was connected to Jodie. Although since he was investigating Conan at the time, and found out that he was involved in some FBI plans, he probably was investigating Jodie, since she was the FBI Agent, who was speaking with Conan at the shrine. He also may have had his Japanese Secret Police friends dig up that information for him.

But he was murdered by the director Sanpei Kokuri before it could happen. It is not known if the organization wanted to kill him, but they were keeping an eye on him. Despite the lack of clues about Asaka or Rum, the case proved that the organization is aware of the decoding of Kohji's dying message and is paranoid about it.

Yukiko is currently aware that Sharon and Chris are the same person and a member of the organization who had tried to kill her son earlier.

His wife is dead and, after Conan has finally solved that old case, his daughter turned herself in to the Tokyo police for Shukuzen Ogami's murder.
