The murder weapon was Kyona Shono's selfie stick, which Saya took to her own apartment. To close Kyona's apartment door and leave the card inside, she used her toy helicopter. Her motive was that she thought Kyona knew she had accidentally killed an old man in a car accident and fled the crime scene, but in fact the only secret Kyona knew was that Saya was actually 5 years older than she claimed to be.

Afterwards, [[Hyoue Kuroda]] arrives on the scene, announces that [[Kiyonaga Matsumoto]] has been promoted, and that he will be taking his place. Conan looks on in shock and Ai grips his shoulder in fear, as Kuroda asks for Conan's assistance in his new position.

=== File 921 - Ran GIRL (Part 1) ===
Thirteen years ago, Eri is still married to Kogoro. It is Kogoro's first day at the headquarters and she is searching for Ran's Sakura Badge for pre-school. Kogoro accidentally steps on it and breaks it, so Eri makes Ran a temporary one using colored paper and cardboard.

In another scene, Yusaku is in book-signing event where a fan admires his writing that says that she liked one of the last lines of the wandering woman detective in his story: "There are no time constraints to starting over." She hails from Hokkaido. Yukiko calls Yusaku to inform that Shinichi's pre-school badge is missing. Yusaku accidently brought everything that was on his desk, including the badge.

Ran's paper badge is admired by Sonoko in school, but some guys don't seem too happy about it. Sonoko and one of them get into a fight over Ran's badge, which is resolved by their teacher, Ronsuke Efune. Unfortunately, Ran's badge is all crumpled up but she says that she can make it again since she saw her mom make it.

While everyone is sleeping, Ran is struggling to make her badge out of paper again. This is when Shinichi approaches her. "It's a Cherry Blossom, right?", he says. Upon Ran asking why, he presents his deduction. By the time he finishes, everyone is listening and amused. But Ran doesn't seem too flattered by someone who called her a "crybaby". Sonoko admires him but Ran tries to refute his claim exclaiming that she wasn't crying. Yukiko arrives and scolds Shinichi for running away and losing his badge. Shinichi says that he was telling Ran to make a new one for him. Yukiko recognizes Ran as Eri's daughter. Ran asks for Shinichi name and writes it on the badge, telling him that he can keep it, but he has to promise that Ran is not a crybaby so he won't ever call her that.

=== File 922 - Ran GIRL (Part 2) ===
Back to the present, Ran says that she couldn't digest the fact that Shinichi being just a kid himself like everyone was acting all like an adult. She was actually crying because the badge her mom made for her was ruined. At that time, she couldn't understand the real reason why Shinichi asked her to make a badge for him.

Another day in the school, Shinichi catches Efune staring at Ran while singing. Sonoko claims that Efune can do that since he's the teacher and very popular, so much that many kids want to marry him when they grow up. Upon asking if she likes Efune, Ran shies away from Shinichi shouting why would she tell him that.

Later that day, Shinichi confronts Efune regarding some inconsistencies he found in his behavior towards Ran. He presents his questions: Why would he hold her hand when they cross the street? Why would he let her slide first in the park? Why would the location of the park be changed to a distant one without any reason? Why does Ran only have a designated spot for sleeping? He concludes that Efune is trying to win her over and do bad things to her. Efune states his reasons: He holds her hand because one time she lost the way and ended up on the other side of town in Haido City. He lets her slide first because she always ends up letting everybody go first and doesn't get to slide herself sometimes. And she sleeps where she does because it is nearest to the bathroom as one time she was sleeping so far away that she didn't make it. He says that he'll state his reasons for switching the park the next day.

The next day at the park, Efune explains that he chose the farthest park so that the kids will have to walk through two cross-walks and hence learn the traffic rules better. He further mentions another reason, that of her wife being admitted in the hospital next to the park. He says she likes kids, who are full of energy, and hence Efune brings the kids to that park for her watch from the hospital window.
Ran suggests waving out to her, but the boys from before taunt her, saying they won't play with someone wearing a 'weird' name tag. Shinichi defends Ran saying he too is wearing the same type of name tag, the one Ran made for him before, and hence there was no way he was not going to play with her. Upon hearing this, Ran realises the real reason Shinichi asked her to make the name tag for him.

=== File 923 - Shinichi BOY (Part 1) ===
The story goes back to the scene when everything started. Yukiko is searching for Shinichi's badge and calls Yusaku to enquire about it. Meanwhile, Shinichi is lost in a mystery book. He reads, "If one simply knocks out all the central inferences, and presents one's audience with the starting-point and conclusion, one may produce a startling, though possibly a meretricious, effect." Shinichi seems typically embarrassed about wearing glasses when his mother tells him that he will end up wearing them if he reads in the dark.

They leave to Yusaku's book-signing event where Yusaku hands-over the badge and Shinichi clips it to his shirt. Shinichi and his mother arrive next at Beika Pre-school. Efune is carrying out the formalities for Shinichi joining pre-school. Wandering in search of the library, Shinichi ends up opening the doors to the room Ran and others are sleeping in. His first reaction is to be shocked at the sight of so many children lying in rows, which he mistook for a morgue from a scene he saw in a movie. He walks by the sleeping children and finds Ran crying. He sees her uniform missing a badge. He looks at the folds she is making from a distance and accurately deduces it to be a Cherry Blossom Petal from when he saw his dad making stars for decorating the Christmas Tree. He's embarrassed to ask her if he's right. When he tries to speak, he sees a badge made of paper. "What was taken from her wasn't a plastic badge.", he realises. He removes his own badge and all while maintaining his serious expression, tells her, "Make me one, too. (Pause) It's a cherry blossom, right?" He is worried if he's wrong in his deduction. Ran asks him how did he know that. Shinichi thinks she is making of him and explains his deduction, additionally calling her a 'crybaby'. Everyone is amused but Ran is mad at him. "I'm not a crybaby." She exclaims. Shinichi argues that she was crying, but Ran is insistent that she wasn't. That's when Yukiko finds Shinichi and starts scolding him. Shinichi tells her that he lost his nametag while he hides it in his pocket. The situation plays out like Ran's viewpoint, except only that Shinichi notices Efune staring darkly at Ran.

=== File 924 - Shinichi BOY (Part 2) ===

Shinichi notices that Ronsuke is seemingly showing favoritism towards Ran. The reason is because that is preparation for a '''kidnapping attempt by Ronsuke Efune, his wife and his brother-in-law'''. Ronsuke's motive is to get a child for his wife to replace their daughter, as she ran away from home, which is why his wife has a mental disorder. Yusaku reveals to Ronsuke that a fan of his that he met a few days ago is actually Ronsuke's daughter, and she has just returned to them. The brother-in-law is arrested, and Ronsuke and his wife decide to give themselves in after that.

[[Ai Haibara|Ai]] tells [[Conan|Conan]] that she doesn't recognize [[Hyoue Kuroda|Superintendent Kuroda]], that her reaction towards him was trigger purely by his scary appearance. She further reassures him by mentioning that, since Hyoue got a clear look at her face, he would've done something by now. As Ai checks her phone she is left shocked, Conan, believing that it might be regarding the [[Hiroshi Agasa|professor]], grabs her phone away, but sees that her speechlessness was induced by a tabloid article claiming to have exposed [[Ryusuke Higo|Ryusuke]] and [[Yoko Okino|Yoko's]] affair. In the Mouri Detective Agency, [[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro]] has lost his spirits after hearing about the relationship on television. Soon afterwards Ai barges into the office and hires him as a private eye on Yoko, pro bono. After a quick search on the internet Conan, [[Ran Mouri|Ran]], Ai and Kogoro visit the restaurant where the alleged couple was seen, and stake out their date under the pretense of dining. The owner of the restaurant, Higo's friend and former Tokyo Spirits player, Teiya Asuka, is told to be absent, according to the sommelier Akimichi Yamada. The waitress Reiko Banba is approaching the couple's table carrying desserts, however as she was placing down a plate she knocked over Yoko's wineglass. Ex-boyfriend and fellow waiter Yasuto Kounoe warns her that the owner will be scolding her for the mishap, since Higo is an acquaintance of him, but she brushes it off. As the owner is running late, the staff decides to go look for him. Akimichi suggests him and Yasuto check the back room, while Reiko checks the storeroom. Both men check the back room and don't find the owner resting there, pointing out that the couch in the middle of the room is used for naps, and that the owner hasn't been getting enough rest lately. Yasuto mentions an argument between the sommelier and owner, regarding the wine prices. Upon her return, Reiko announces that the owner isn't to be found in the storeroom either, and the staff decides to wait it out.
After another of Ryusuke's inquiries, the staff decides to look for the owner once again. Yasuto will head into the back room, Akimichi will check the storeroom and Reiko will look for him in the staff room, where she finds him taking a nap on the couch, covered from head to toe with a blanket. After ten minutes, the owner is still asleep, so the staff decides to wake him up. Akimichi heads into the room with the key, but outside Yasuto receives a message from the owner, asking him to bring his acquaintance Higo and Yoko to the storeroom. Just as Kogoro decides to take a short smoking break, they hear Yoko scream and run towards the back area. Kogoro rushes down into the cellar only to find Yoko and Ryusuke next to Teiya Asuka's dead body.

=== File 926 - The Staff's Alibis Are? ===
Inspector Megure and Detective Takagi arrive. Takagi says that the time of death is between seven and eight p.m. and that the cause of death is blood loss due to a severed carotid artery. The weapon was most likely the pen knife near the body. While Megure and Takagi question the famous pair, Takagi inquires about whether they are dating only to be interrupted by Kogoro and Ai who have their own questions. As the investigation continues Megure asks the suspects about their movements prior to the discovery of the body. They told him about the visits to the backroom and seeing the owner sleeping on the couch. Individual questioning begins with Yasuto, who tells them he couldn't be the killer due to the storeroom being locked and the key remaining on the hook. The only other spare key was in the victims pocket. He also tells them that the other two had motive. Yamada previously had an argument with the victim over wine choices and Reiko was the victims woman and they could have broken up. The next interrogation was with Reiko who denies a break up. She says that the owner had been staying at the restaurant due to the turnover being low. In the interrogation with Yamada, they asked him about his argument with the owner. He says that the owner wanted him to buy cheaper wines, but Yamada was insistent on the more expensive ones. Chiba comes in and reveals that there were cigarettes found in the restroom, to which Yamada replied that Yasuto had been caught smoking in the backroom and was forced to smoke in the restroom instead where he could blend in. Finally they interrogate Yoko and Higo together and they explain why they couldn't have received a message from the victim due to Yoko's phone being dead and Higo's phone going missing. Conan notices that the blanket on the couch has a hole in it that is stained dark red, and that the owner's jacket in his locker has a hole and is stained with a bit of wine. He turns to look at the suspects and thinks that he knows who of the three suspects is the killer.

Ran asks for Shinichi name and writes it on the badge, telling him that he can keep it, but he has to promise that Ran is not a crybaby so he won't ever call her that.

Back to the present, Ran says that she couldn't digest the fact that Shinichi being just a kid himself like everyone was acting all like an adult. She was actually crying because the badge her mom made for her was ruined. At that time, she couldn't understand the real reason why Shinichi asked her to make a badge for him.

Another day in the school, Shinichi catches Efune staring at Ran while singing. Sonoko claims that Efune can do that since he's the teacher and very popular, so much that many kids want to marry him when they grow up. Upon asking if she likes Efune, Ran shies away from Shinichi shouting why would she tell him that.

Later that day, Shinichi confronts Efune regarding some inconsistencies he found in his behavior towards Ran. He presents his questions: Why would he hold her hand when they cross the street? Why would he let her slide first in the park? Why would the location of the park be changed to a distant one without any reason? Why does Ran only have a designated spot for sleeping? He concludes that Efune is trying to win her over and do bad things to her. Efune states his reasons: He holds her hand because one time she lost the way and ended up on the other side of town in Haido City. He lets her slide first because she always ends up letting everybody go first and doesn't get to slide herself sometimes. And she sleeps where she does because it is nearest to the bathroom as one time she was sleeping so far away that she didn't make it. He says that he'll state his reasons for switching the park the next day.

The next day at the park, Efune explains that he chose the farthest park so that the kids will have to walk through two cross-walks and hence learn the traffic rules better. He further mentions another reason, that of her wife being admitted in the hospital next to the park. He says she likes kids, who are full of energy, and hence Efune brings the kids to that park for her watch from the hospital window.
Ran suggests waving out to her, but the boys from before taunt her, saying they won't play with someone wearing a 'weird' name tag. Shinichi defends Ran saying he too is wearing the same type of name tag, the one Ran made for him before, and hence there was no way he was not going to play with her. Upon hearing this, Ran realises the real reason Shinichi asked her to make the name tag for him.

[[Ai Haibara|Ai]] tells [[Conan|Conan]] that she doesn't recognize [[Hyoue Kuroda|Superintendent Kuroda]], that her reaction towards him was trigger purely by his scary appearance. She further reassures him by mentioning that, since Hyoue got a clear look at her face, he would've done something by now. As Ai checks her phone she is left shocked, Conan, believing that it might be regarding the [[Hiroshi Agasa|professor]], grabs her phone away, but sees that her speechlessness was induced by a tabloid article claiming to have exposed [[Ryusuke Higo|Ryusuke]] and [[Yoko Okino|Yoko's]] affair. In the Mouri Detective Agency, [[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro]] has lost his spirits after hearing about the relationship on television. Soon afterwards Ai barges into the office and hires him as a private eye on Yoko, pro bono. After a quick search on the internet Conan, [[Ran Mouri|Ran]], Ai and Kogoro visit the restaurant where the alleged couple was seen, and stake out their date under the pretense of dining. The owner of the restaurant, Higo's friend and former Tokyo Spirits player, Teiya Asuka, is told to be absent, according to the sommelier Akimichi Yamada. The waitress Reiko Banba is approaching the couple's table carrying desserts, however as she was placing down a plate she knocked over Yoko's wineglass. Ex-boyfriend and fellow waiter Yasuto Kounoe warns her that the owner will be scolding her for the mishap, since Higo is an acquaintance of him, but she brushes it off. As the owner is running late, the staff decides to go look for him. Akimichi suggests him and Yasuto check the back room, while Reiko checks the storeroom. Both men check the back room and don't find the owner resting there, pointing out that the couch in the middle of the room is used for naps, and that the owner hasn't been getting enough rest lately. Yasuto mentions an argument between the sommelier and owner, regarding the wine prices. Upon her return, Reiko announces that the owner isn't to be found in the storeroom either, and the staff decides to wait it out.
After another of Ryusuke's inquiries, the staff decides to look for the owner once again. Yasuto will head into the back room, Akimichi will check the storeroom and Reiko will look for him in the staff room, where she finds him taking a nap on the couch, covered from head to toe with a blanket. After ten minutes, the owner is still asleep, so the staff decides to wake him up. Akimichi heads into the room with the key, but outside Yasuto receives a message from the owner, asking him to bring his acquaintance Higo and Yoko to the storeroom. Just as Kogoro decides to take a short smoking break, they hear Yoko scream and run towards the back area. Kogoro rushes down into the cellar only to find Yoko and Ryusuke next to Teiya Asuka's dead body.

=== File 926 - The Staff's Alibis Are? ===
Inspector Megure and Detective Takagi arrive. Takagi says that the time of death is between seven and eight p.m. and that the cause of death is blood loss due to a severed carotid artery. The weapon was most likely the pen knife near the body. While Megure and Takagi question the famous pair, Takagi inquires about whether they are dating only to be interrupted by Kogoro and Ai who have their own questions. As the investigation continues Megure asks the suspects about their movements prior to the discovery of the body. They told him about the visits to the backroom and seeing the owner sleeping on the couch. Individual questioning begins with Yasuto, who tells them he couldn't be the killer due to the storeroom being locked and the key remaining on the hook. The only other spare key was in the victims pocket. He also tells them that the other two had motive. Yamada previously had an argument with the victim over wine choices and Reiko was the victims woman and they could have broken up. The next interrogation was with Reiko who denies a break up. She says that the owner had been staying at the restaurant due to the turnover being low. In the interrogation with Yamada, they asked him about his argument with the owner. He says that the owner wanted him to buy cheaper wines, but Yamada was insistent on the more expensive ones. Chiba comes in and reveals that there were cigarettes found in the restroom, to which Yamada replied that Yasuto had been caught smoking in the backroom and was forced to smoke in the restroom instead where he could blend in. Finally they interrogate Yoko and Higo together and they explain why they couldn't have received a message from the victim due to Yoko's phone being dead and Higo's phone going missing. Conan notices that the blanket on the couch has a hole in it that is stained dark red, and that the owner's jacket in his locker has a hole and is stained with a bit of wine. He turns to look at the suspects and thinks that he knows who of the three suspects is the killer.

Anzai mumbles something and passes out. He is rushed to the hospital. Heiji lies to Kazuha that a horror film shooting is taking place at Cafe Poirot and they better head to the light show first.
Anzai was stabbed in the back with a long sashmi knife. The blood splat on Heiji and Conan's face. But no blood is found on anyone else's clothes.
The police find out the source of the blackout : a thin wire wrapped around the plug of the laptop's extension cord that Anzai tried to plug in. Anzai seemed to forget his laptop in the backpack at places he went. Oozumi mentions that Anzai has lot of enemies. Anzai got into trouble for making moves on other's girlfriends but the quarrels were settled behind the scenes becuase of his father being a congressman.
Everyone gives the particulars of where they sat. Amuro says he checked the CCTV footage which showed that Oozumi didn't come out even once after going in the restroom, and hence couldn't know the seating position of his teammates.
There is a small window on the door of the restroom, but Amuro explains that it is frosted and hence one can't see through it.

Heiji asks Conan about Amuro, to which Amuro signals him to keep quiet about his true identity. Oozumi's belonging includes keys, cigaretts, a lighter, a wallet, a mobile phone and a necklace present for Yamashita. Yamashita has a handkerchief, tissues, cosmetics, keys and a wallet. Nagatsuka carries eye-drops, a wallet, mobile phone and a hand-bag as a present for Yamashita. The unknown customer identifies himself as Wada Shinichi, a medical personnel. He explains that he used the screen light of his mobile phone, and blocked the entrance during the blackout so no one could leave.
Suddenly, he clears his throat and begins to recite: "See how clear and bright, is the moon-light finding ways through the clouds...That, with drifting autumn wind, gracefully float in the sky."
Upon hearing this, the trio of Conan, Heiji and Amuro reach the truth of the case.

=== File 983 - Solution of the Mystery at Café Poirot ===

The culprit is '''Meisuke Oozumi.''' He did it out of jealousy, because Yui, his girlfriend, had continually adressed Tengo with his first name in Japanese, while she kept calling Meisuke by his family name, and therefore he thought that the two were having an affair. The truth is that Tengo is her half-brother. Yui is the result of an extra-marital affair of her father's, a congressman, a fact which had been kept a family secret due to the impact that its revelation would entail on the politician's publicity. Then Yui's parents would argue about child support money, she and Tengo would play together, so they became quit close. However, the situation is remedied when Tengo has a stern exchange with Meisuke over the phone and sends over a video clip message detailing his and Yui's relationship, meaning to entrust his sister to him. Tengo futher says over the phone that he knows that he hasn't been acting like a saint and understands why Meisuke got the wrong idea. He demands him to come and visit at the hospital. It could indicate that he does not plan to press charges. Meisuke break down upon realizing his mistake, and Heiji asks him if he hadn't heard sitting down for a chat, indicating that the murder attempt could have been avoided if Meisuke had just talked to Yui or Tengo.

It's revealed that 'Shinichi Wada' is actually Muga Iori, the butler of Momiji Ooka's family. He went to Poirot on Momiji's orders to observe Heiji. He mentions to Momiji that while Heiji is interested in another girl, it shouldn't prove a problem for Momiji.

From the clues sent by Eri, Conan concludes that she must have been confined at a building that Sutanchou as it's the only place that she can see Tohto Tower (the half-boiled crab) and Bell Tree Tower (the swordfishes, which refers to Miyamoto Musashi(634), the tower's height). They manage to rescue her in time and incapacitate the criminals. It turns out that the criminals are husbands (a domestic abuser, an adulterer, and a gambler) who lost against Eri in their divorce cases and decided to take revenge. Their intention was to make a video of Eri naked and make her apologies to them, although with her continued evasion of them, the leader had changed his intention to rape. Kogoro takes out the leader, which Ran beats down the two other.

Kuroda is sitting at his desk looking at the details of the [[Case from 17 years ago]], thinking deeply about Kohji Haneda and Rumi Wakasa. Shiratori advises him to take a holiday and go camping for a few days. Rumi takes the Detective Boys camping as well. They end up talking with some other campers, who are members of a basketball team. One of them, Danno, had a recent irreversible eye injury and now wears a prosthetic eye, frightening Conan and Haibara who try to figure out if Rumi has a prosthetic eye as well and could be Rum. Urushibara, one of the campers they meet, suddenly starts speaking and acting in a very obnoxious manner to his friends, and shuts himself away in their tent. Soon after, a fire starts in the tent and he gets burned to death. They try to put it out and save Urushibara, to no avail. As they call the police and Inspector Yuminaga turns up, they are surprised to find in a nearby teepee tent another camper, who is revealed to be Kuroda.

Kuroda says he saw everything from his tent and can certify the victim's three friends are the only ones who came to the tent before it burned. Rumi and Kuroda seem to know each other and start speaking to one another in a cold and fearless manner. Kuroda also keeps an eye on Conan who tries to investigate the case with Yuminaga, who knows him well (Vol. 39, 60 and 61). Haibara and Conan have a suspicion that Rumi-sensei cannot see through her right eye. Rumi seems out of sorts when Kuroda is around, though she gives Conan a few clues to solve the case.

=== File 989 - Buzzer Beater ===

The culprit is '''Sumito Ashizawa'''. He made a kind of rocker arm with candles to set fire to the tent later on, Urushibara being asleep and him being away from the tent. He therefore lured the others into believing the candles' movement was actually due to Urushibara doing squats in the tent, implying he was alive and that only Danno could have been the murderer, as he came to the tent after the squats. Ashizawa had put the victim in a sitting position and stuck his hands together behind his head with his own plasters to prevent him from escaping when the burning tent would wake him up. Which means the police will find Ashizawa's hair and fingerprints, along with DNA and skin particles, on the plaster which didn't burn. Not forgetting the cutter he used to escape the tent after locking it from the inside, which has probably some canvas fibers on his blade. Ashizawa says it's indeed the case and uses his cutter to take Ayumi hostage, saying he had asked the victim to damage Danno's eye, to further his own career. But when the 'accident' caused permanent damage, Ashizawa was being blackmailed by the victim, who intended to continue with it. Ashizawa says he'll jump from a cliff with Ayumi, who passes out in fear. As Conan is completely powerless due to leaving his main gadgets in their tent, Rumi comes closer to Ashizawa and orders him to let go of her pupil, and if not to stab her at once, if he desires it so much. She even proposes to help him in doing so, and Ashizawa gets paralysed in fear. Kuroda eventually neutralises him and Ayumi is saved. Conan suspects Rumi even more but Haibara tells him to stop it as she likes her teacher. '''It is revealed that Rumi is hiding something in her pocket, the shape of a triangle.'''

Conan, Ran and Kazuha came to Toto Stadium, Tokyo, to watch Heiji's important kendo competition. As Heiji wins a fight with verve, his rival follows him closely behind : Soshi Okita, Shinichi's lookalike he met during a previous case ("Naniwa Murder Case", Vol. 31). Heiji says to himself he can't but get even with Okita today, he has to win, for Kazuha. The competition pauses for lunch time, and Ran says she'll go to the bathroom before they all go and eat in a diner. Since too many people are queuing in front of the bathroom, Ran asks if therer's another one, and is told to go and have a try at the north entrance's one. Meanwhile, Momiji and Iori are on the phone, Iori informing Momiji of Heiji's high rankings in the competition, while Momiji asks him if everything is ready for the "little party" after Heiji's victory. Iori adds Heiji may confront Okita and another kendo practitioner, "as strong as a demon".

In a garden, Shido Nukitani, a kendo match referee, swallows some digestion medicine as a Kyoto Senshin kendo student comes up to him. Nukitani says he expected someone to come along, as this garden serves as a training pitch for kendo fighters during pauses, and adds "he'd better not to do it for now, and not to damage the place". Suddenly, the kendo student grabs his sabre and slits Nukitani's thorat in one blow, in a flash, without him being just able to react. The murderer then turns around in fear as an old man sitting on a bench behind him says he heard a voice and asks if there's anyone around that could tell him what's happening. The murderer realises the old man is blind and spares his life, leaving the place.

Ran and Conan notice the bathroom which is exactly in the garden where the old man is. They find the corpse of Nukitani and Conan says the murder is recent and the killer must not be far. They see the old man on the bench, who tells them he's been blind for three years now. He came in the garden to hear the sounds of kendo fights, that remind him of the time when he was a young kendo practitioner. Conan tells him he probably heard the culprit, and the man replies the murderer said something like "the cutter is covered in blood, I can't use it anymore, bring me a new one". He adds the criminal was speaking with a woman but he didn't heard her words. He says the killer was probably phoning her. The man tells Conan actually the murderer didn't leave the place and went directly to the bathroom. Two other people went to the bathroom as well, but neither them nor the culprit went out of it.

Conan suggests they call the police and keep an eye on the bathroom, as the murderer may still be armed and has an accomplice. Conan notices Nukitani doesn't show any signs of struggle on his body, implying he probably knew the culprit or knew something that made him drop his guard. Conan is joined by a high school kendo practitioner he thought was Heiji but actually is Okita, who says Nukitani's absence of struggling reminds him of tsujigiris (wanton murders of random passers-by by samurais in the past, when they wanted to try out a new sabre's efficiency). He adds the sabre's blow was deadly, perfect and neat, the work of an expert. Okita introduces himself to Conan, saying he's from Kyoto Senshin kendo club - just like the murderer, something Conan is ignorant of.

Okita introduces himself to Ran who remembers him to be Heiji's rival. Okita starts hitting on Ran, proposing her to come to Kyoto some day and to call him to show her around. Ran is reminded of Shinichi when looking at Okita. The latter tells Conan what he also meant by the murderer being an expert : Nukitani wears kendo referee clothes, and as referees must have an expert level, he was probably killed by a kendo practitioner of the same level as him, or even better. As Ran is once again reminded of Shinichi's investigation skills, Okita makes another move on her but gets hit on the head by Heiji's bokken, who asks him to stand away from his best friend's girl. Heiji had come to train with Okita, knowing he would come in this garden during competition pauses. Okita came to train as well but not to fight Heiji, instead someone even stronger than Heiji.

Takagi and Sato turn up and question Yasuoka, the old man. The two police inspectors prepare to storm the bathroom but suddenly two men and a woman emerge quietly from their respective rooms. Heiji and Conan can't believe none of them is covered in blood at all. Norimura, a kendo referee, rushes to Nukitani as he sees him unconscious and blood-drenched, but is stopped by Okita who tells him he's the n°1 suspect for being a kendo expert. Norimura replies he was never able to defeat Nukitani during competitions, who had an even better level than him. As Okita suggests he could have killed him to revenge, the other suspects Sadamori and Yokote pretend not to know who Nukitani is. Conan says Sadamori lies as the forensic shows her a rather equivocal selfie of her and Nukitani on this latter's phone. Norimura remembers Nukitani told him one of his former students would harass him and had a crush on him, she worked in Japan Self-Defense Forces. Sadamori confesses to having practised kendo for three years at high school as Nukitani was her P.E. teacher. She lied not to be involved in the case, as when she came to the bathroom Nukitani was already dead, and she was too afraid to call police, and went hiding in the ladies'.

Norimura says he was in a hurry and rushed to the bathroom without probably noticing Nukitani. Same thing for Yokote who just didn't want to miss the rest of the competition. As he claims not to know the victim neither kendo, Sadamori calls him a liar and recalls seeing Yokote in a café where she was with Nukitani. Yokote was with his girlfriend bragging about his countless kendo competiton victories with his famous "face attack", and got in a row with Nukitani when the latter asked which competition it was. The girlfriend then got it he was a liar and left the café at once, infuriated. Yokote replies he also heard Sadamori threatening to kill Nukitani if he didn't leave his wife for her. He also reminds Norimura of the row he had with Nukitani after a competition, what Norimura acknowledges, saying he told Nukitani he thought he was refereeing with too much leniency at the moment, to which Nukitani told him harshly to try and defeat him before telling him how to do his work. Sato therefore remarks they all have the ability and motive to murder him.

Ran says the old Yasuoka can recognise the murderer's voice, a rather hoarse one, just like the victim. He says the conversation he heard was before the victim's pain grunt, which means the victim could have been killed by the accomplice. The forensic says Nukitani last phoned to...his wife, who is coming momentarily. Takagi suggets either Nukitani or the murderer deleted the real contact person Nukitani phoned to before the murder. Behind the bathroom, Okita finds out a bloody complete kendo dogi (clothes) and armor, equidistant from both rooms' windows, implying we can't know if a man or a woman threw it away. Okita sees it's a Kyoto Senshin armor and remembers not long ago people reported the mysterious theft of a reservists' armor, serving for everybody, even Norimura, who calls it a spare armor, he used it as well not long ago but didn't steal it.

Given it's impossible to find fingerprints or footprints as it is used by everyone and worn over clothes, Sato tells Takagi to go and cancel the competition. Heiji stops him and asks him to wait another 40 minutes, the remaining time before competition resumes, as he wants to win it to confess his love to Kazuha, and there's still some time then to try and solve the case. Heiji believes he will defeat Okita, and Okita proposes to settle it right now, not to waste any time.

Meanwhile, Kazuha is worrying about Conan's and Ran's whereabouts, as the competition will resume very soon. Not far away, Momiji has arrived in the bleacher and waits for the lunch time to end by having a "little" snack : Iori serves her tea in a royal-like, luxurious set, next to a laid clothed table with many plates and trays of "petits fours" and cupcakes...
