== Background ==
Renya Karasuma was a wealthy man. According to Furuya Senma, Karasuma inherited Sunset Mansion from his mother and found clues that could lead to a treasure inside the mansion, but when he was unable to find it himself, he hired detectives to search for it, and began killing them to get them to solve the riddle faster. Among those men were Senma's own father. Karasuma is believed to be dead. A fake story says that he died 50 years prior to the series, but Senma claims that he lived at least ten more years, which means that if he is dead, he died 40 years prior to the series.
After his death the sunset mansion eventually ended up in the hands of another detective Oogami, who also search for the treasure and was killed. The mansion still has traces after Karasuma's mark on the silver.

Some time after, Subaru discussed the case cipher with [[Yusaku]], and both arrived at the conclusion that the message might only form one word; "CARASUMA", which refers to [[Renya Karasuma]], a millionaire who is supposed to be dead a long time ago, and who even might have a connection with the Organisation.

The first kanji in Karasuma means 'Crow', which could fit with the children song The Seven Children, that the boss of the organization use as his phone number, because there is crows included.
