The mysterious boss, respectfully called '''{{nihongo|Ano Kata|あの方|That Person}}''' by his/her subordinates, is the leader of the [[Black Organization]]. The true identity and gender of the boss is still unknown, with only a few insignificant facts about them revealed in the manga's 21 year (and counting) run. [[Conan Edogawa]], the [[FBI]], and the [[CIA]] wish to uncover the boss and cause the destruction of the Black Organization.

== Personality ==
Little is known about boss's personality. The boss appears to be fairly ruthless, willing to dispatch senior agents who have been loyal to the Black Organization for many years for a single mistake. The boss is also described as overly cautious by Vermouth. Somehow, the boss can maintain loyalty and unity within the codenamed ranks despite many agents disliking or even outright wishing to murder certain others. The boss is known to give permission to agents who wish to pursue certain missions, such as Bourbon and Vermouth's plan to make sure Akai was truly dead.

The boss appears to be especially close to Vermouth who is described as "that person's favorite", much to the chagrin of her enemies and those who mistrust her. The boss is also close to Gin, who often acts as an intermediary between the boss and other agents. Gin usually takes the lead planning role in assassinations that the boss has ordered.

While the boss is likely highly intelligent, the boss has had several clear failures so far. [[Shuichi Akai]] ([[FBI]]), [[Rei Furuya]] and [[Scotch]] (Japanese secret police), and [[Hidemi Hondou]] ([[CIA]]) were all given codenames by the boss despite being spies, and Akai successfully fooled the boss into thinking he was killed. While most agents follow the boss's orders, some agents have acted contrary to the wishes of "that person". A plan that was intended to create an "acceptable reason" to eliminate [[Akemi Miyano]] backfired badly when Akemi's ability was underestimated. As a consequence, the lead researcher for the [[APTX 4869]] project, [[Shiho Miyano]], ultimately defected and escaped. The boss has also unintentionally allowed Vermouth to undermine the Organization by protecting someone she thinks is especially dangerous: [[Conan Edogawa]].

In [[Clash of Red and Black]], [[James Black]] explained to Conan that capturing a high ranking member of the Black Organization who could lead them to the boss was the goal of [[Shuichi Akai]]'s spy mission. After three years of infiltration, the boss gave the undercover FBI agent the codename "Rye" and ordered him to work under Gin. The FBI's plan to capture Gin fell apart when Akai's true allegiance was uncovered due to a mistake made by [[Andre Camel]]. In the two years since the mission failure, the boss came to regard Akai as a "[[Silver Bullet]]" - someone who is especially dangerous to the Black Organization.

Prior to this confrontation with the Black Organization, it was unclear who or what authority commanded the codenamed agents of the Black Organization seen so far. [[Gin]]'s discussion with [[Pisco]] about the planned murder of Shigehiko Nomiguchi revealed to Conan the existence of an authority figure referred to as "ano kata". Gin relayed ''that person's'' orders to Pisco: silence the politician Shigehiko Nomiguchi who was going to be arrested for bribery and use APTX 4869 if it was necessary. Pisco's act of murder was accidentally caught on camera, so the boss ordered Gin to kill Pisco.

Someone discovered that Vermouth was up to something and Gin and Vodka were ordered to investigate an off-season Halloween party aboard a ship. Before Vodka was sent aboard the ship in disguise, Gin told him "not to hold back" even though Vermouth was "that person's favorite" and they had not been granted permission to kill her. At the party, a man that Vermouth blackmailed to murder a director began screaming someone called "Vermouth" was to blame.<ref>Manga Volume 42, File 9 (433), pg 4: "The truth behind the mask"</ref> Later, the boss sent a message to Vermouth's phone informing her that her freedom was now being restricted and she was to return.

When Vermouth replied back, Conan noticed the sound of the keypresses of the boss's mail address sounded familiar. Conan later uncovers that the keypresses of the boss's mail address sounds like the beginning of the children's song [[Nanatsu no ko]], and Conan deduces the boss's mail address is #969#6261. Haibara warns Conan of the danger of calling it, likening it to Pandora's box.

=== Assassination attempts on Yasuteru Domon and Kogoro Mouri (Manga: [[Volume 48|499]]-[[Volume 49|504]]; Anime: [[Episode 425|425]]) ===
The boss orders the assassination of Yasuteru Domon, who is a politician hard on crime. The FBI believed the boss was hoping to nip a potential obstacle in the bud because Domon may have a chance of becoming the next Prime Minister. When Gin discovers that the agent [[Rena Mizunashi]], aka [[Kir]], has been captured and a tracking device planted on her clothing, he asks the boss for permission to kill the last person to stay at her house: [[Kogoro Mouri]]. The boss grants Gin permission to leave Domon and target Kogoro. The assassination fails because of Akai's interference. Akai's attack made it appear that it was really the FBI who captured Kir and planted the tracking device. Domon coincidentally gives up running for office as well, making assassinating him unnecessary.

While the Black Organization searches for Kir who is in FBI custody, [[Chianti]] asks why Rena Mizunashi was promoted in the first place.<ref name="553p24">manga [[Volume 53]], File 10 (553), pgs 2-4: "The Mysterious Job"</ref> Gin reveals that it was because she had uncovered a spy and confronted him. The spy, [[Ethan Hondou]], overpowered and tortured her for information, but Rena remained silent. Although completely crippled, Rena bit Ethan's wrist to force him to drop his gun, and then killed him. The bite marks and Ethan's recording device coincided with her story, so the boss promoted her to the codename Kir in recognition of her loyalty and sheer savageness.

In truth, the boss had been fooled. Ethan Hondou was Kir's father and they both are CIA spies infiltrating the Black Organization. Rena had made a mistake and was about to be uncovered as a spy. Ethan, who had prepared appropriately ahead of time in case this happened, told Rena to tell the Organization she discovered he was a spy and tried to confront him. Ethan then committed suicide after maiming himself and his daughter to make it appear like the story Ethan had just explained.

After the Black Organization retrieved Kir from the FBI, Gin is suspicious of how ineffective the FBI's plan was and that Akai didn't make a strong move. Gin thinks Akai is still hiding something and that doubt is relayed to the boss who concurs. The boss and Gin plan a test of Kir's loyalty. Meanwhile, [[Andre Camel|an FBI agent]] becomes a suspect in a coincidental murder case. The Black Organization hears about it, and taking advantage of the FBI's distraction, Gin calls out Kir and tells her the boss's order. To regain the boss's trust, she is to call Akai out to meet with her and kill him. Kir meets with Akai at Raiha Pass and apparently kills him.

After a misunderstanding, Vermouth informs Gin that she and Bourbon received the boss's permission to execute a second, secret mission. Bourbon verified Shuichi Akai's death by disguising as Akai and approaching his FBI colleagues.

Non-canon minor agent [[Masaaki Okakura]] was killed by [[List of Black Organization related characters#Kazuki Honjo|Kazuki Honjo]] for revenge entirely unrelated to the Black Organization. Without knowing it, the serial killer has taken away the charm bag with a memory card listing the complete Black Organization agents that have infiltrated various organizations, that Masaaki obtained it possibly as insurance as speculated by Vermouth. So the boss orders to [[Irish]] to disguise himself as [[Kiyonaga Matsumoto|Superintendent Matsumoto]] and follow this serial murders case for retrieve the memory card before the police catch the culprit and look into the database. After the first conference at the [[Tokyo Metropolitan Police]] Headquarters, disguised as an officer, Vermouth sends a mail to the boss on the results of the meeting and the success of Irish's disguise. Conan discovers it thanks to [[Misao Yamamura|Inspector Yamamura]], who overheards the key tone out of the bathroom and sings the song. During the second conference, the police receive a call from [[List of Black Organization related characters#Sumire Shindo|Sumire Shindo]], an abstract painter who lives in Hachioji City, who says she has a clue that could take them to their suspect, so Irish mails the boss. When he discovers Conan's true identity, Irish wants to take him alive to meet the boss to make him confessing the gross mistake made by Gin in killing a witness so uncomfortable, in order to overthrow the one who killed [[Pisco]], his mentor and like a father for him. However, when the police discover that he is a fake, Irish is killed by Chianti under Gin's order before Conan manages to make him revealing the boss's true identity.

[[Rum]] is the Boss's unknown right hand. Judging from [[Shuichi Akai]]'s description, Rum appears to have high rank in the organization and is very close to the Boss. Several details of the boss's personality and methods have been revealed in the manga [[canon]].

* The boss uses the first few notes of the song [[Nanatsu no Ko]] to encode his/her mail address. The number is #969#6261, which was purposefully made non-functional by Gosho Aoyama to prevent prank mails. Unlike phone numbers, mail addresses don't have an area code. *The Black Organization uses clever codenames, passwords, etc. based on mysteries and history. If the boss is behind the naming scheme then perhaps the boss has an interest in detectives and mysteries.
* The operatives dress in black, which [[Akemi Miyano]] says is supposed to resemble crows. This is probably an expression of the boss’s dress code preferences and may be symbolic. The boss may use the crow themed phone number Nanatsu no ko for the same reason.

== Personality ==
Little is known about boss's personality. The boss appears to be fairly ruthless, willing to dispatch senior agents who have been loyal to the Black Organization for many years for a single mistake. The boss is also described as overly cautious by Vermouth. Somehow, the boss can maintain loyalty and unity within the codenamed ranks despite many agents disliking or even outright wishing to murder certain others. The boss is known to give permission to agents who wish to pursue certain missions, such as Bourbon and Vermouth's plan to make sure Akai was truly dead.

The boss appears to be especially close to Vermouth who is described as "that person's favorite", much to the chagrin of her enemies and those who mistrust her. The boss is also close to Gin, who often acts as an intermediary between the boss and other agents. Gin usually takes the lead planning role in assassinations that the boss has ordered.

While the boss is likely highly intelligent, the boss has had several clear failures so far. [[Shuichi Akai]] ([[FBI]]), [[Rei Furuya]] and [[Scotch]] (Japanese secret police), and [[Hidemi Hondou]] ([[CIA]]) were all given codenames by the boss despite being spies, and Akai successfully fooled the boss into thinking he was killed. While most agents follow the boss's orders, some agents have acted contrary to the wishes of "that person". A plan that was intended to create an "acceptable reason" to eliminate [[Akemi Miyano]] backfired badly when Akemi's ability was underestimated. As a consequence, the lead researcher for the [[APTX 4869]] project, [[Shiho Miyano]], ultimately defected and escaped. The boss has also unintentionally allowed Vermouth to undermine the Organization by protecting someone she thinks is especially dangerous: [[Conan Edogawa]].

In [[Clash of Red and Black]], [[James Black]] explained to Conan that capturing a high ranking member of the Black Organization who could lead them to the boss was the goal of [[Shuichi Akai]]'s spy mission. After three years of infiltration, the boss gave the undercover FBI agent the codename "Rye" and ordered him to work under Gin. The FBI's plan to capture Gin fell apart when Akai's true allegiance was uncovered due to a mistake made by [[Andre Camel]]. In the two years since the mission failure, the boss came to regard Akai as a "[[Silver Bullet]]" - someone who is especially dangerous to the Black Organization.

Before Vodka was sent aboard the ship in disguise, Gin told him "not to hold back" even though Vermouth was "that person's favorite" and they had not been granted permission to kill her. At the party, a man that Vermouth blackmailed to murder a director began screaming someone called "Vermouth" was to blame.<ref>Manga Volume 42, File 9 (433), pg 4: "The truth behind the mask"</ref> Later, the boss sent a message to Vermouth's phone informing her that her freedom was now being restricted and she was to return.

When Vermouth replied back, Conan noticed the sound of the keypresses of the boss's mail address sounded familiar. Conan later uncovers that the keypresses of the boss's mail address sounds like the beginning of the children's song [[Nanatsu no ko]], and Conan deduces the boss's mail address is #969#6261. Haibara warns Conan of the danger of calling it, likening it to Pandora's box.

The boss orders the assassination of Yasuteru Domon, who is a politician hard on crime. The FBI believed the boss was hoping to nip a potential obstacle in the bud because Domon may have a chance of becoming the next Prime Minister. When Gin discovers that the agent [[Rena Mizunashi]], aka [[Kir]], has been captured and a tracking device planted on her clothing, he asks the boss for permission to kill the last person to stay at her house: [[Kogoro Mouri]]. The boss grants Gin permission to leave Domon and target Kogoro. The assassination fails because of Akai's interference. Akai's attack made it appear that it was really the FBI who captured Kir and planted the tracking device. Domon coincidentally gives up running for office as well, making assassinating him unnecessary.

While the Black Organization searches for Kir who is in FBI custody, [[Chianti]] asks why Rena Mizunashi was promoted in the first place.<ref name="553p24">manga [[Volume 53]], File 10 (553), pgs 2-4: "The Mysterious Job"</ref> Gin reveals that it was because she had uncovered a spy and confronted him. The spy, [[Ethan Hondou]], overpowered and tortured her for information, but Rena remained silent. Although completely crippled, Rena bit Ethan's wrist to force him to drop his gun, and then killed him. The bite marks and Ethan's recording device coincided with her story, so the boss promoted her to the codename Kir in recognition of her loyalty and sheer savageness.

In truth, the boss had been fooled. Ethan Hondou was Kir's father and they both are CIA spies infiltrating the Black Organization. Rena had made a mistake and was about to be uncovered as a spy. Ethan, who had prepared appropriately ahead of time in case this happened, told Rena to tell the Organization she discovered he was a spy and tried to confront him. Ethan then committed suicide after maiming himself and his daughter to make it appear like the story Ethan had just explained.

After the Black Organization retrieved Kir from the FBI, Gin is suspicious of how ineffective the FBI's plan was and that Akai didn't make a strong move. Gin thinks Akai is still hiding something and that doubt is relayed to the boss who concurs. The boss and Gin plan a test of Kir's loyalty. Meanwhile, [[Andre Camel|an FBI agent]] becomes a suspect in a coincidental murder case. The Black Organization hears about it, and taking advantage of the FBI's distraction, Gin calls out Kir and tells her the boss's order. To regain the boss's trust, she is to call Akai out to meet with her and kill him. Kir meets with Akai at Raiha Pass and apparently kills him.

Non-canon minor agent [[Masaaki Okakura]] was killed by [[List of Black Organization related characters#Kazuki Honjo|Kazuki Honjo]] for revenge entirely unrelated to the Black Organization. Without knowing it, the serial killer has taken away the charm bag with a memory card listing the complete Black Organization agents that have infiltrated various organizations, that Masaaki obtained it possibly as insurance as speculated by Vermouth. So the boss orders to [[Irish]] to disguise himself as [[Kiyonaga Matsumoto|Superintendent Matsumoto]] and follow this serial murders case for retrieve the memory card before the police catch the culprit and look into the database. After the first conference at the [[Tokyo Metropolitan Police]] Headquarters, disguised as an officer, Vermouth sends a mail to the boss on the results of the meeting and the success of Irish's disguise. Conan discovers it thanks to [[Misao Yamamura|Inspector Yamamura]], who overheards the key tone out of the bathroom and sings the song. During the second conference, the police receive a call from [[List of Black Organization related characters#Sumire Shindo|Sumire Shindo]], an abstract painter who lives in Hachioji City, who says she has a clue that could take them to their suspect, so Irish mails the boss, who immediately contacts Gin and orders him to go there along with Vodka before the police: however, this woman was kidnapped and killed by the serial killer before their arrive. When he discovers Conan's true identity, Irish wants to take him alive to meet the boss to make him confessing the gross mistake made by Gin in killing a witness so uncomfortable, in order to overthrow the one who killed [[Pisco]], his mentor and like a father for him. However, when the police discover that he is a fake, Irish is killed by Chianti under Gin's order before Conan manages to make him revealing the boss's true identity.

*The Black Organization uses clever codenames, passwords, etc. based on mysteries and history. If the boss is behind the naming scheme then perhaps the boss has an interest in detectives and mysteries.
* The operatives dress in black, which [[Akemi Miyano]] says is supposed to resemble crows. This is probably an expression of the boss’s dress code preferences and may be symbolic. The boss may use the crow themed phone number Nanatsu no ko for the same reason.
*If the FBI's assessment of the boss is correct, the boss is a forward thinker. The FBI believed he ordered the assassination of Yasuteru Domon who wasn't even part of the [[Wikipedia:Diet of Japan|Diet]] yet because he was hard on crime and had a chance of becoming the next [[Wikipedia:Prime_Minister_of_Japan|Prime Minister]].

Vodka may have intended to kill the man when the transaction was complete as he began to draw his gun, but it could also have been in response to the company owner's remark the Black Organization does even worse things than gun smuggling. The man escaped when Gin assaulted Shinichi who had been spying on the transaction and Vodka was distracted.

===Akemi Miyano and the billion yen robbery gang===

Five years prior to the current time-line, FBI agent [[Shuichi Akai]] infiltrated the Black Organization by dating Akemi Miyano. He was expelled after his true allegiance was uncovered, but Akemi could not be silenced because it would jeopardize the loyalty of her valuable sister [[Shiho Miyano]]. Eventually the Organization came up with a way to get rid of Akemi by pretending to make a deal with her; in exchange for a successful bank robbery, Gin told Akemi she and Shiho could go free. The Organization thought Akemi would surely fail and thus they would have an acceptable reason to kill her.

Akemi hired two partners, the family-less, get-away driver Kenzo Hirota who worked at a taxi company in Tokyo, and an unnamed giant man with connections at a Pachinko building to serve as muscle. Akemi and her two partners successfully pulled off the robbery, killing a guard in the process. Kenzo Hirota then backstabbed the other two by running away with the billion yen. In order to track him down, Akemi and her partner approached different detectives pretending to be Kenzo's relatives. Under alias Hirota Masami, Akemi Miyano pretended she was school girl from Yamagata to enlist Kogoro's help.<ref>Manga [[Volume 2]], file 4 (13): "The Missing Man "</ref> Masami’s other giant accomplice pretended to be Kenzo's elder brother, Akira Hirota, from Kyushu. After the two find Kenzo, a fight broke out between the two men, resulting in the giant strangling Kenzo against Akemi's wishes. Akemi and the giant hung Hirota's corpse from a rope to make it appear like a suicide, grabbed the cash, and left for a hotel. Gin had given Akemi sleeping pills to add to the giant man's drink so she could take the money from him. The pills were really laced with cyanide and the giant man was killed. Akemi left the real cases of money at the hotel and went to meet with Gin and Vodka at the shipping yard. Gin killed her there, but was unable to recover the money.

One of Hideaki's coworkers wanted to kill him for revenge, but Tequila was killed instead by accident.<ref>Manga Chapter 114</ref> The Black Organization then immediately blew up the [[Setting|Daiko Building's Cocktail Bar]] where Hideaki and Tequila had meetings.

Ki'ichiro Numabuchi is an assassin who escaped the Black Organization before they could test APTX 4869 out on him when they decided he was useless. He then escaped from prison after that. He first showed up in Osaka in the [[The Naniwa Serial Murder Case]] where he is a suspect. He is innocent of these particular crimes and was being starved in a shack by the real serial killer who wanted to frame him. He tries to stab Conan with a kitchen knife while escaping, but Heiji's good luck charm luckily blocks the blow. He took driving lessons at a seminary 20 years ago but failed.<ref>Manga [[Volume 19]], Files 5-8 (185-188): Stabbed Wallet Case</ref> He appears again in [[Mitsuhiko's Mystifying Forest]]. Three years before the current timeline, he stopped developing CG and a particular program due to poor eyesight. Two years ago Tequila showed up at his office to say he was interested in the particular “system software” Itakura stopped developing. One year later, he was later forced to finish the program with a year deadline. Itakura didn’t want to complete the program “not only for his eyesight but for the sake of humanity.”<ref>Manga [[Volume 37]], File 8 (380): "White Snow... Black Shadow..."</ref> He stayed in New Beika Hotel where he was killed by an unrelated party. Vermouth attempted to kill the Araide family so she could disguise and take the place of Tomoaki Araide. Dr. Araide was targeted for his job as school nurse at Teitan Elementary and Teitan High which allowed Vermouth to get close to Haibara Ai, Conan Edogawa, and Ran Mouri. The FBI caught on to Vermouth's intentions before she could act and used disguised stunt doubles to make it appear that the Araide family were all killed when their car ran off a cliff into the ocean. After Vermouth was unmasked, Dr. Araide has been able to come out of hiding and continue his job as school nurse where Vermouth left off. At this time, Vermouth was acting without the approval of the Black Organization, so it is doubtful whether Tomoaki Araide was of any interest to the rest of the Organization.

The Black Organization ordered Kir to arrange an interview with him in exchange for suppressing information that his father was under suspicion of having an extramarital affair 20 years ago. The assassination plot was called off because Yasuteru Domon decided to stop running for office when the affair information was about to come out anyway. Thus, Kogoro is saved at the last second by a double effort from Conan and Shuichi Akai, and the Organization is made to believe the FBI planted the tracker. Despite Vermouth's prompting, Gin does not believe that Kogoro is completely innocent.

Some point later, the police arrived at Touhei's apartment to question him about the pickpocketing case but he declared he did not know anything regarding the murder of the pickpocket. At this point it appears that Bourbon and the Black Organization have no further interest in Touhei Benzaki.

One of these times, Amuro stole her phone and texted Jodie while pretending to be Shibuya, asking Jodie to go out for drinks. Jodie contacted Shibuya back via [[Camel]]'s phone. Bourbon then planned to have Shibuya get into an accident, possibly by running her over with his car. Before Amuro could attack her himself, another person attacked Shibuya first. When the police came to the accident, they contacted Camel because it was one of the most recent phone numbers used. [[Vermouth]] copied Jodie's clothing while Amuro participated in solving the case. Vermouth then lured Jodie and Camel to the hospital by pretending to be a nurse calling in to report that Shibuya's condition had become critical. In the end, Amuro and Vermouth were able to trick Camel into revealing that [[Rikumichi Kusuda]] killed himself. Shibuya was fine in reality and recovered without incident. It is unclear how Amuro found out she was connected to Jodie.

Vodka may have intended to kill the man when the transaction was complete as he began to draw his gun, but it could also have been in response to the company owner's remark the Black Organization does even worse things than gun smuggling. The man escaped when Gin assaulted Shinichi who had been spying on the transaction and Vodka was distracted.

===Akemi Miyano and the billion yen robbery gang===

Five years prior to the current time-line, FBI agent [[Shuichi Akai]] infiltrated the Black Organization by dating Akemi Miyano. He was expelled after his true allegiance was uncovered, but Akemi could not be silenced because it would jeopardize the loyalty of her valuable sister [[Shiho Miyano]]. Eventually the Organization came up with a way to get rid of Akemi by pretending to make a deal with her; in exchange for a successful bank robbery, Gin told Akemi she and Shiho could go free. The Organization thought Akemi would surely fail and thus they would have an acceptable reason to kill her.

Akemi hired two partners, the family-less, get-away driver Kenzo Hirota who worked at a taxi company in Tokyo, and an unnamed giant man with connections at a Pachinko building to serve as muscle. Akemi and her two partners successfully pulled off the robbery, killing a guard in the process. Kenzo Hirota then backstabbed the other two by running away with the billion yen. In order to track him down, Akemi and her partner approached different detectives pretending to be Kenzo's relatives. Under alias Hirota Masami, Akemi Miyano pretended she was school girl from Yamagata to enlist Kogoro's help.<ref>Manga [[Volume 2]], file 4 (13): "The Missing Man "</ref> Masami’s other giant accomplice pretended to be Kenzo's elder brother, Akira Hirota, from Kyushu. After the two find Kenzo, a fight broke out between the two men, resulting in the giant strangling Kenzo against Akemi's wishes. Akemi and the giant hung Hirota's corpse from a rope to make it appear like a suicide, grabbed the cash, and left for a hotel. Gin had given Akemi sleeping pills to add to the giant man's drink so she could take the money from him. The pills were really laced with cyanide and the giant man was killed. Akemi left the real cases of money at the hotel and went to meet with Gin and Vodka at the shipping yard. Gin killed her there, but was unable to recover the money.

He is innocent of these particular crimes and was being starved in a shack by the real serial killer who wanted to frame him. He tries to stab Conan with a kitchen knife while escaping, but Heiji's good luck charm luckily blocks the blow. He took driving lessons at a seminary 20 years ago but failed.<ref>Manga [[Volume 19]], Files 5-8 (185-188): Stabbed Wallet Case</ref> He appears again in [[Mitsuhiko's Mystifying Forest]]. Three years before the current timeline, he stopped developing CG and a particular program due to poor eyesight. Two years ago Tequila showed up at his office to say he was interested in the particular “system software” Itakura stopped developing. One year later, he was later forced to finish the program with a year deadline. Itakura didn’t want to complete the program “not only for his eyesight but for the sake of humanity.”<ref>Manga [[Volume 37]], File 8 (380): "White Snow... Black Shadow..."</ref> He stayed in New Beika Hotel where he was killed by an unrelated party. The FBI caught on to Vermouth's intentions before she could act and used disguised stunt doubles to make it appear that the Araide family were all killed when their car ran off a cliff into the ocean. After Vermouth was unmasked, Dr. Araide has been able to come out of hiding and continue his job as school nurse where Vermouth left off. At this time, Vermouth was acting without the approval of the Black Organization, so it is doubtful whether Tomoaki Araide was of any interest to the rest of the Organization.

When the police came to the accident, they contacted Camel because it was one of the most recent phone numbers used. [[Vermouth]] copied Jodie's clothing while Amuro participated in solving the case. Vermouth then lured Jodie and Camel to the hospital by pretending to be a nurse calling in to report that Shibuya's condition had become critical. In the end, Amuro and Vermouth were able to trick Camel into revealing that [[Rikumichi Kusuda]] killed himself. Shibuya was fine in reality and recovered without incident. It is unclear how Amuro found out she was connected to Jodie.

The man escaped when Gin assaulted Shinichi who had been spying on the transaction and Vodka was distracted.

===Akemi Miyano and the billion yen robbery gang===

Five years prior to the current time-line, FBI agent [[Shuichi Akai]] infiltrated the Black Organization by dating Akemi Miyano. He was expelled after his true allegiance was uncovered, but Akemi could not be silenced because it would jeopardize the loyalty of her valuable sister [[Shiho Miyano]]. Eventually the Organization came up with a way to get rid of Akemi by pretending to make a deal with her; in exchange for a successful bank robbery, Gin told Akemi she and Shiho could go free. The Organization thought Akemi would surely fail and thus they would have an acceptable reason to kill her.

Akemi hired two partners, the family-less, get-away driver Kenzo Hirota who worked at a taxi company in Tokyo, and an unnamed giant man with connections at a Pachinko building to serve as muscle. Akemi and her two partners successfully pulled off the robbery, killing a guard in the process. Kenzo Hirota then backstabbed the other two by running away with the billion yen. In order to track him down, Akemi and her partner approached different detectives pretending to be Kenzo's relatives. Under alias Hirota Masami, Akemi Miyano pretended she was school girl from Yamagata to enlist Kogoro's help.<ref>Manga [[Volume 2]], file 4 (13): "The Missing Man "</ref> Masami’s other giant accomplice pretended to be Kenzo's elder brother, Akira Hirota, from Kyushu. After the two find Kenzo, a fight broke out between the two men, resulting in the giant strangling Kenzo against Akemi's wishes. Akemi and the giant hung Hirota's corpse from a rope to make it appear like a suicide, grabbed the cash, and left for a hotel. Gin had given Akemi sleeping pills to add to the giant man's drink so she could take the money from him. The pills were really laced with cyanide and the giant man was killed. Akemi left the real cases of money at the hotel and went to meet with Gin and Vodka at the shipping yard. Gin killed her there, but was unable to recover the money.

He tries to stab Conan with a kitchen knife while escaping, but Heiji's good luck charm luckily blocks the blow. He took driving lessons at a seminary 20 years ago but failed.<ref>Manga [[Volume 19]], Files 5-8 (185-188): Stabbed Wallet Case</ref> He appears again in [[Mitsuhiko's Mystifying Forest]]. Itakura didn’t want to complete the program “not only for his eyesight but for the sake of humanity.”<ref>Manga [[Volume 37]], File 8 (380): "White Snow... Black Shadow..."</ref> He stayed in New Beika Hotel where he was killed by an unrelated party. The FBI caught on to Vermouth's intentions before she could act and used disguised stunt doubles to make it appear that the Araide family were all killed when their car ran off a cliff into the ocean. After Vermouth was unmasked, Dr. Araide has been able to come out of hiding and continue his job as school nurse where Vermouth left off. At this time, Vermouth was acting without the approval of the Black Organization, so it is doubtful whether Tomoaki Araide was of any interest to the rest of the Organization.

The Black Organization ordered Kir to arrange an interview with him in exchange for suppressing information that his father was under suspicion of having an extramarital affair 20 years ago. The Black Organization planned the timing so that it could be blamed on female gang leader Kiriko Busajima who had been accused of hiring a hitman to kill him before. The assassination plot was called off because Yasuteru Domon decided to stop running for office when the affair information was about to come out anyway. The Black Organization had not realized that this information was enough to get him to stop running for office.

Kogoro Mouri temporarily became an assassination target when Gin mistakenly thought that the detective planted a tracking and listening device on Kir's shoe. With the boss's permission he, Vodka, Vermouth, Korn and Chianti went Beika city to silence the detective. As the Black Organization snipers, Korn and Chianti, prepare to fire at Kogoro, they are interrupted by Conan kicking a soccer ball into Kogoro's window and Shuichi Akai's sniper shots. Thus, Kogoro is saved at the last second by a double effort from Conan and Shuichi Akai, and the Organization is made to believe the FBI planted the tracker. Despite Vermouth's prompting, Gin does not believe that Kogoro is completely innocent.

Unfortunately for Bourbon, Touhei had just been pickpocketed by a female thief and he got caught up in a murder case where she's the victim. After the case is over, Bourbon returned the stolen purse to Touhei's unconscious body and left him to eventually wake up. Some point later, the police arrived at Touhei's apartment to question him about the pickpocketing case but he declared he did not know anything regarding the murder of the pickpocket. At this point it appears that Bourbon and the Black Organization have no further interest in Touhei Benzaki.

Natsuko Shibuya is a Japanese friend of [[Jodie Starling]]'s whom she helped in a case while she was studying abroad in America. [[Rei Furuya|Tooru Amuro]] was hired by Shibuya because she was being stalked and they met multiple times. One of these times, Amuro stole her phone and texted Jodie while pretending to be Shibuya, asking Jodie to go out for drinks. Jodie contacted Shibuya back via [[Camel]]'s phone. Bourbon then planned to have Shibuya get into an accident, possibly by running her over with his car. Before Amuro could attack her himself, another person attacked Shibuya first. When the police came to the accident, they contacted Camel because it was one of the most recent phone numbers used. [[Vermouth]] copied Jodie's clothing while Amuro participated in solving the case. Vermouth then lured Jodie and Camel to the hospital by pretending to be a nurse calling in to report that Shibuya's condition had become critical. In the end, Amuro and Vermouth were able to trick Camel into revealing that [[Rikumichi Kusuda]] killed himself. Shibuya was fine in reality and recovered without incident. It is unclear how Amuro found out she was connected to Jodie.

Souhei Dejima was being watched by the Black Organization at that time. Akemi came back as an adult to hide tapes left by Haibara’s mother for Shiho in the toilet, and afterwards the Black Organization came to investigate secretly.
