== Background ==
Shortly after Megure had come to the police force, he was involved in a case in which he would meet his future wife, [[Midori Megure|Midori]]. As a result of the case, he has taken to wearing a hat in public in order to hide a scar which he gained and his own self-consciousness about how he came to his marriage.<ref>Manga Chapter 286: An Unexpected Motive</ref> Megure was also a good friend of star detective story novelist [[Yusaku Kudo]], and would in the past consult him about one case or another. On many such occasions, Yusaku would take his son [[Shinichi Kudo|Shinichi]] with him, who would pick up his father's investigative skills and eventually become a detective in his own right.<ref>Manga Chapter 204: The Initial Call</ref>

Megure is almost always there on the scene when a murder occurs, always interviewing the suspects, and acting as the commanding officer of the group of police he brings along with him, among them [[Wataru Takagi]], [[Miwako Sato]], [[Ninzaburo Shiratori]], and [[Kazunobu Chiba]]. == Personality ==
Megure is a capable veteran officer who cares much for his underlings, but he is prone to occasional shouting fits whenever something does not go right or when his temper gets the better of him. He also has little patience for fools, but tends to be a bit too conservative, limiting his ability for flexible thinking.

After [[Shinichi Kudo|Shinichi]] solved their first mutual case for him, he has regularly consulted him in difficult cases and considered him a great help.<ref>Manga Chapter 207: Hidden Within The Depth Of The Heart</ref> In stark contrast to this, he tends not to think much of [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] and the [[Detective Boys]], usually thinking of them as a nuisance until they solve the ongoing case for him. Likewise, from their common police days, he has no high regard for [[Kogoro Mouri|Kogoro]], and he thinks that he may actually be under some kind of jinx, since wherever Kogoro shows up, there is always some murder case nearby (a fact which actually conforms to Conan, which in later cases he seems to have realized).

In some anime originals, Megure has the habit of trying to tell the culprit about the morals of doing wrong, which he rarely does in the manga series.

[[Midori Megure|Midori]] is Megure's wife. During a case along time ago, she insisted on being a decoy for a serial killer. This is explained in Episode 217-218. Juzo jumped in front of the car to save her. While she was hit, he only hit his head. This is explained why he never takes off his hat, which is to hide the scar. She survived and later they were married.

Megure is on very friendly terms with [[Yusaku Kudo|Yusaku]] and respects his deductive powers, so much so that he sometimes looks to him for guidance on tough cases.

==== Shinichi Kudo ====
[[Shinichi Kudo]] is respected and seen as a helpful guide on cases by Megure. Their working relationship began with [[The Locked Room in the Sky: Shinichi Kudo's First Case|Shinichi's first solo case aboard an airplane]]. Shinichi's habit of helping the police likely comes from his father, [[Yusaku Kudo]], whom Megure also respects. Megure often comments how cases would be much easier if "Kudo-kun" was still around. Conan often pretends that Shinichi tells him the truth to cases by phone so that Megure is more accepting of Conan's deductions.

Megure tends to treat Conan as a nuisance, and does not think much of him. Unlike Takagi and Sato, he does not notice as much as others the tips and hints Conan drops regularly.

In episode 218, Juzo shielded Sonoko from a serial killer. The serial killer was going to kill Sonoko with a iron club until Juzo shielded her at last second. The killer was arrested and Juzo went to the hospital. Sonoko, Ran, Conan, Kogoro and the Superintendent went to visit him.

==== Kogoro Mouri ====
[[Kogoro Mouri]] and Megure used to work together in the past before Kogoro left the police force. Megure found Kogoro's work behavior and poor deductions irritating. Now that Kogoro has become the "Sleeping Kogoro", Megure's respect for him has increased somewhat. It is a running gag that Megure refers to Kogoro as a shinigami or a 'death-god', because of the sheer number of murder cases that Kogoro coincidentally has come by. Now whenever Kogoro and Megure work together, the inspector always impatiently awaits [[Stun-Gun Wristwatch|Kogoro's characteristic "Hynaaa~" sound and dance]] that marks the beginning of the [[Conan Edogawa|sleeping detective's]] deduction.

Maigret and Megure physically resemble one another as well, both are stocky and somewhat overweight. Megure's first name "Juzo" has also been used as a pun on thirteen, the Japanese numeral.

The Detective Conan manga is published in Spain by Planeta DeAgostini in 1998 and the Anime was broadcasted on [[Wikipedia:Cartoon Network|Cartoon Network]].

==Manga==
The manga was first published in 1998, with 13 volumes released as of 2000 before its cancellation. With the success of the Spanish dub of the series, the manga continued being released, in a bigger format and under the title Volume 2. Issues 1 to 32 of the second volume were only half of a Japanese volume (meaning the 32 Spanish issues were 16 Japanese issues). From 33 onward, they're the same length as the Japanese release. For the sake of continuity (apart from the fact that the first 13 volumes were hard to find) Volume 1 was re-released in the new format. Volume 2, issue 78 (Volume 75 in Japan) is planned to be released in March 2014.

Also, 31 out of 36 volumes of Detective Conan Special have been released (albeit with less success than the mainstream series).

The 2 first novels have been released.

In 2011, a new edition has been released, called "Detective Conan: Nueva Edición" (New Edition) which has two Japanese volumes in one Spanish volume. As of 2013, seven volumes (equivalent to volumes 1-14) have been released.

Curiously, all Spanish manga releases are inversed so they can be read as a Western comic. This leads to changing some dialogue in order to fit the pictures (for example, all instances of mentioning someone is left-handed are changed to right-handed, and vice versa).

==Trivia==
*The logo used is the same as the standard international logo.
*Nearly all of the characters have the same name. An exception would be [[Ai Haibara|Sherry]] was once named Jerez in Spanish dub.
*During around 30 episodes of Spanish Dub, Professor Agasa is called Hakase Agasa. This is a translation mistake because Hakase means Professor in Japanese. After these episodes the mistake is fixed.
*Kaito Kid was called "Kid el Ladrón" (Kid the Thief) in the spanish dub. In Catalan dub was called "Kid Cat el Lladre" in the first appearance but but then it is called "Kaito Kid" and "Kid el Lladre" interchangeably, in Galician dub "Caco Kid" and in Basque dub "Katalapur Gazterean".
*The TV airing of Spanish dub and Balear Dub is slightly censored: Blood is digitally erased or reduced, but there are no cuts. However, the dub itself is uncut, so there are references to the censored blood (for example, Conan may say "there's blood in the floor" even though the blood is erased). A possible explanation could be that the censors were made after the series was dubbed. In Catalan, Galician, Valencian and Basque the censorship doesn't exist.
*In the Catalan dub, Conan's voice changes depending on the situation. When he's pretending to be a kid, he has his child voice, but when he's talking to someone who knows his real identity, his voice changes to Shinichi's, as if his voice hadn't changed at all. This causes a severe plothole when he needs his bowtie to speak as Shinichi, which he wouldn't need at all.
* In Catalan dub, in Kaito Kid's first official appearance as Kaito Kuroba his name was misswritten Kaiti Kuroha.

The Detective Conan manga is published in Spain by Planeta DeAgostini in 1998 and the Anime was broadcasted on [[Wikipedia:Cartoon Network|Cartoon Network]].

==Manga==
The manga was first published in 1998, with 13 volumes released as of 2000 before its cancellation. With the success of the Spanish dub of the series, the manga continued being released, in a bigger format and under the title Volume 2. Issues 1 to 32 of the second volume were only half of a Japanese volume (meaning the 32 Spanish issues were 16 Japanese issues). From 33 onward, they're the same length as the Japanese release. For the sake of continuity (apart from the fact that the first 13 volumes were hard to find) Volume 1 was re-released in the new format. Volume 2, issue 78 (Volume 75 in Japan) is planned to be released in March 2014.

Also, 31 out of 36 volumes of Detective Conan Special have been released (albeit with less success than the mainstream series).

The 2 first novels have been released.

In 2011, a new edition has been released, called "Detective Conan: Nueva Edición" (New Edition) which has two Japanese volumes in one Spanish volume. As of 2013, seven volumes (equivalent to volumes 1-14) have been released.

Curiously, all Spanish manga releases are inversed so they can be read as a Western comic. This leads to changing some dialogue in order to fit the pictures (for example, all instances of mentioning someone is left-handed are changed to right-handed, and vice versa).

==Trivia==
*The logo used is the same as the standard international logo.
*Nearly all of the characters have the same name. An exception would be [[Ai Haibara|Sherry]] was once named Jerez in Spanish dub.
*During around 30 episodes of Spanish Dub, Professor Agasa is called Hakase Agasa. This is a translation mistake because Hakase means Professor in Japanese. After these episodes the mistake is fixed.
*Kaito Kid was called "Kid el Ladrón" (Kid the Thief) in the spanish dub. In Catalan dub was called "Kid Cat el Lladre" in the first appearance but but then it is called "Kaito Kid" and "Kid el Lladre" interchangeably, in Galician dub "Caco Kid" and in Basque dub "Katalapur Gazterean".
*The TV airing of Spanish dub and Balear Dub is slightly censored: Blood is digitally erased or reduced, but there are no cuts. However, the dub itself is uncut, so there are references to the censored blood (for example, Conan may say "there's blood in the floor" even though the blood is erased). A possible explanation could be that the censors were made after the series was dubbed. In Catalan, Galician, Valencian and Basque the censorship doesn't exist.
*In the Catalan dub, Conan's voice changes depending on the situation. When he's pretending to be a kid, he has his child voice, but when he's talking to someone who knows his real identity, his voice changes to Shinichi's, as if his voice hadn't changed at all. This causes a severe plothole when he needs his bowtie to speak as Shinichi, which he wouldn't need at all.
* In Catalan dub, in Kaito Kid's first official appearance as Kaito Kuroba his name was misswritten Kaiti Kuroha.

The Detective Conan manga is published in Spain by Planeta DeAgostini in 1998 and the Anime was broadcasted on [[Wikipedia:Cartoon Network|Cartoon Network]].

==Manga==
The manga was first published in 1998, with 13 volumes released as of 2000 before its cancellation. With the success of the Spanish dub of the series, the manga continued being released, in a bigger format and under the title Volume 2. Issues 1 to 32 of the second volume were only half of a Japanese volume (meaning the 32 Spanish issues were 16 Japanese issues). From 33 onward, they're the same length as the Japanese release. For the sake of continuity (apart from the fact that the first 13 volumes were hard to find) Volume 1 was re-released in the new format. Volume 2, issue 78 (Volume 75 in Japan) is planned to be released in March 2014.

Also, 31 out of 36 volumes of Detective Conan Special have been released (albeit with less success than the mainstream series).

The 2 first novels have been released.

In 2011, a new edition has been released, called "Detective Conan: Nueva Edición" (New Edition) which has two Japanese volumes in one Spanish volume. As of 2013, seven volumes (equivalent to volumes 1-14) have been released.

Curiously, all Spanish manga releases are inversed so they can be read as a Western comic. This leads to changing some dialogue in order to fit the pictures (for example, all instances of mentioning someone is left-handed are changed to right-handed, and vice versa).

*The logo used is the same as the standard international logo.
*Nearly all of the characters have the same name. An exception would be [[Ai Haibara|Sherry]] was once named Jerez in Spanish dub.
*During around 30 episodes of Spanish Dub, Professor Agasa is called Hakase Agasa. This is a translation mistake because Hakase means Professor in Japanese. After these episodes the mistake is fixed.

===Magic Kaito===
The day after the Kaitou Kid makes his return after an eight-year hiatus, Kaito stumbles through a trap door in his room and discovers that his father, [[Toichi Kuroba]], was the original Kaitou Kid. Kaito dons his father's costume to discover the identity of the new Kaitou Kid, revealed to be his father's old assistant [[Konosuke Jii]]. Jii tells Kaito that Toichi had been murdered eight years ago, and that he had dressed as the Kid and staged the heist in order to lure Toichi's killers.

So Kaito adopts the mantle of the Kid, having proven that he is more skilled than the aging and serious Jii. As the Kaitou Kid, Kaito stages several high-profile jewel heists with the intention of smoking out his father's killers (although he seems to be enjoying himself in the process). It isn't until the ''Blue Birthday'' heist that the murderers appear and reveal that they are searching for the doublet red-coloured gem [[Pandora]], said to shed tears of immortality during the passing of a particular comet. In other instances, Kid has staged heists when people such as [[Jirokichi Suzuki]] have called him out, or when criminals have used the Kaitou Kid's name to deflect blame from themselves, as in the Sunset Mansion case or the Seiran case. He also appeared in the Ryoma case to expose several counterfeiters who were pretending to possess items that another thief called the Phantom Lady had stolen years ago. A young Kaito also appeared in a flashback during which Conan recalled a riddle that he and Ran had tried to solve when they were in first grade. It turned out that the 'riddler' had been the original Kaitou Kid, [[Toichi Kuroba]], who seemed to be a friend of [[Yusaku Kudo]].

In chapter 824, Kid had played a significant role in main Detective Conan plot by disguising as Sherry under Conan's request. Their plan successfully tricked the Black Organization into believing she is dead.

====Non-Canon Detective Conan Overview====
In [[The Lost Ship in the Sky]], it's revealed that Kaito knew Conan's real identity of Shinichi Kudo. He helped Conan who was thrown out of the airship and they worked together to get back. Kaito has disguised himself as Shinichi four times, in [[The Last Wizard of the Century]], in [[Magician of the Silver Sky]], in [[The Lost Ship in the Sky]], and in [[Sunflowers of Inferno]] which led Sato and Takagi to suspect that Shinichi was Kaitou Kid. The two later share their suspicion with Heiji to which he responded with an 'Are you kidding me?' face.

Aoko was somewhat suspicious that Kaito was actually Kaitou Kid, and in order to prove his innocence, she brought him along to a movie when a heist had been scheduled. She handcuffed him to the seat, but Kaito managed to escape and pull off the heist, thus veering Aoko's suspicions away from him. The two appear to have feelings for each other, but neither has admitted it as of yet.

Akako's obsession with Kaito comes from Kaitou Kid, whom she realizes is Kaito, being the only man on Earth able to resist her. In the manga, Kid and [[Conan Edogawa|Conan]] are rivals. Ever since Kaito met Conan, Kaito always seems to be anticipating Conan's appearance at his heists. Conan makes the heists more interesting for Kaito, while Conan views Kaito's heists as entertainment.

Before being shrunk, Shinichi had encountered Kaitou Kid once during the Clock Tower heist, though they did not meet face-to-face. In their next encounter, however, after Shinichi had become Conan, Kid disguised himself as Ran in order to steal the Suzuki Black Star pearl. When Conan cornered him on the Suzuki cruise ship, Kid suggested that he'd stolen all of Ran's clothes to impersonate her, and left her naked on the deck. While this ended up being a bluff, Conan was shocked and infuriated. In subsequent encounters between Kid and Conan, Conan displays a much more intense desire to capture Kid.

Since then, Conan is usually a serious threat to Kid's plans and stops Kid often enough from escaping with the jewel that Conan has gained reputation in the press as Kid's "natural enemy". In several instances Conan appears to be able to 'sense' Kid's presence; knowing Kid is close by often causes Conan to behave far more frenetically. Appropriately, Kid seems to find Conan dangerous enough to warrant specific measures to keep the boy distracted. Conan does not seem to like Kid, saying once "He's only a thief that uses magic".<ref>Anime Episode 515: Kaitou Kid's Teleportation Magic</ref> However, if necessary, the two can put their rivalry aside (for a little while) and work together.<ref>[[Kaitou Kid and the Four Masterpieces]]</ref> Conan has something of a gentleman's agreement with Kaitou Kid that he won't look for the thief outside of heists. In several instances, beginning with the "Big Adventure in the Eccentric Residence" case, when Kid does Conan/Shinichi a favor, such as saving Genta's life in the aforementioned case, Conan reciprocates by halting his investigation just shy of capturing Kid, thereby allowing him to escape mostly unhindered. This exchange of favors can sometimes become a bit unbalanced; Conan was perfectly willing to force Kaitou Kid against his will into facing a member of the [[Black Organization]] at gunpoint in a carriage filled with explosives.<ref>Manga [[Volume 78]], File 7 (824): "Mystery Train (Final Destination)"</ref>

In the movies, Kid becomes aware that Conan is Shinichi after he once overheard Conan talking to [[Hiroshi Agasa|Professor Agasa]] and displaying too much criminal knowledge for a 7-year-old.<ref>Movie 03: ''[[The Last Wizard of the Century]]''</ref> As a result, he ends up using Shinichi's identity to either further his own goals and challenge Conan at the same time, or to pay back a favor Conan has done him. Since movies cannot be considered [[canon]], it's unclear whether Kid knows Conan is Shinichi in the official manga. There is also some speculations on Conan figuring out that Kid isn't just stealing randomly. At the end of the OVA 4: Conan, Kid, and the Crystal Mother, Conan had turned with a serious face when he remembered a phrase that Kid had said, "Next time, I'll help myself to the Jewel of Destiny." In movie 14, Conan asked for Kid to disguise as him for a while.

Kaito and [[Heiji Hattori]] have never canonically met, although Heiji faced up against the Kid in Movie 3, and interacted with a disguised Kaito during Movie 10. They were also involved in the same cases in OVA 6 and Movie 14, but never directly interacted.

==== Lupin III ====
In [[Lupin III vs. Detective Conan: The Movie]], while they never directly meet face-to-face with each other, Kaitou Kid and [[Lupin III]] had made their first encounter in the beginning of the film. Kaito Kuroba, while being in his citizen guise, was among the many people present to see the heists of Lupin, who was masquerading as Kaitou Kid, with a valuable diamond. Fujiko Mine claimed if Lupin was unable to save her, by stealing the Cherry Sapphire, she can always ask Kaitou Kid for help. By the end of the film where Lupin was in Japan, in contrary to how Conan had thought he had left, Lupin had tried to steal another valuable jewel only to find it already to be stolen and replaced by a small note left by Kaitou Kid; the act was most likely to return the favor for Lupin’s temporary identity theft, for using Kid’s identity, with the diamond heist. As Lupin was being chased, by [[Inspector Zenigata]] who didn’t believe Lupin didn’t steal the jewel, he had declared his rivalry with Kaitou Kid.
