Alright! Since I didn't see a Malay classroom/chatroom here, nis-aihara and I decided to make one! :D It's only fair to the Malay users as well! But so far, I have only seen a few Malay people. <_< It's kind of sad so I think that teaching the facinating language of Malay will be good as well! :P

Alright to the topic at hand:

LESSON 1- INTRODUCTIONS AND BASICS

Malay follows the English alphabet; 26 letters and the letters are from A to Z. It's relatively easier to learn than other languages with different letters and pronounciation. Malay closely follows the English pronounciation but there are differences.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Here are a few basic Malay greetings and introductions:

Welcome-----------Selamat Datang

How are you?------Apa khabar?

Fine--------------Baik

Thank you---------Terima kasih.

You're welcome----Sama-sama

I am sorry--------Saya minta maaf.

Escuse me---------Minta maaf.

Good Morning------Selamat pagi

Good Afternoon----Selamat tengah hari/ petang.

Good evening------Selamat petang.

Good night--------Selamat malam.

What's your name?-Apa nama awak?(formal)/Nama kau apa?(informal)

My name is--------Nama saya.....

I don't understand----Saya tak faham

General:

The days of the week:

Monday ----> Isnin

Tuesday----> Selasa

Wednesday--> Rabu

Thursday---> Khamis

Friday-----> Jumaat

Saturday---> Sabtu

Sunday-----> Ahad

Numbers:

One----> satu

Two----> Dua

Three--> Tiga

Four---> Empat

Five---> Lima

Six----> Enam

Seven--> Tujuh

Eight--> Lapan

Nine---> Sembilan

Ten----> Sepuluh

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

That's all I can come up with so far. Malay language is relatively easier to remember than other languages but it is harder to learn. Grammar is way different in Malay language and it is quite complex as well. (That's what I feel though :P )

Indonesian is also a form of Malay so Indonesians, do feel free to chat here as well! :D It's nice to talk to people in your own native language right? :lol: I certainly feel that way! :grin:

Well, Happy chatting/learning. If I see there's people who are interested, I'll post another lesson up. Right now, my fingers are tired. :P

Wow! Congratz on your first lesson! :D I'm Malaysian but I'm Chinese and my Malay is horrible... I actually dislike Malay at school (especially the imbuhan and stuff... <_< ), but it might be interesting to talk a bit with you and improve my Malay :D

Apa khabar? :rolleyes:

Second Class :

=> It's easy to learn malay because the way you pronounce the letter is the same as you learn romanji.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Emotions :

Happy ---> Gembira

Sad ---> Sedih

Confused ---> Keliru

Shocked ---> Terkejut

Glad ---> Puas/Lega

Embaressed ---> Malu

Stressed ---> Tertekan

Touched ---> Terharu

Worried ---> Bimbang

Annoyed ---> Terganggu

Bored ---> Bosan

Love ---> Cinta

Like ---> Suka

Hate ---> Benci

Upset ---> Kecewa

Verbs :

~ For the past tense we add telah or ter- before the word

~ For the future tense we add akan before the word

~ For the present tense we add me-,men-,ber- and others. It's a bit complicated for present tenses because for some verbs, we don't have to add anything on it.

Anyway, I'll give you guys the root words first, OK?

Cry ---> Menangis

Laugh ---> Ketawa

Eat ---> Makan

Drink ---> Minum

Write ---> Tulis

See ---> Lihat/Tengok/Tonton

Speak ---> Cakap

Catch ---> Tangkap

Murder ---> Bunuh

Carry ---> Angkat

Send ---> Hantar

Receive ---> Terima

Play ---> Main

I'm tired. . . OK That's it for now!

what do you mean by 'possible'?

I mean is it possible to say "Kesian BM saya"

What's BM anyway?

BM is Bahasa Malaysia/Melayu. It's very similar to Indonesian isn't it? ;)
