Give others a chance, neechan :VVV Answer is 97. Either you get 97, 3rd ranking gets 1, and fourth ranking gets 2; or you get 97, 3rd ranking gets 1 and fifth gets 2. Either way, it's 97! Explanation: Start thinking in terms of the 5th (lowest ranking) pirate. When only him and the 4th ranking pirate are left, no matter what the 4th pirate suggests, he will be killed. (This is because equal votes do not count as majority, and the 5th pirate can get all the coins if the 4th one dies. Even if the 4th suggests 0-100, the 5th pirate will kill him anyway because if the 4th pirate dies, he will get all the coins and he gains nothing, so better to kill him) The 4th pirate knows this and doesn't want to die, so doesn't want to be left with the 5th pirate, so no matter what the 3rd pirate suggests, he'll say yes, so that he won't be killed, The 3rd pirate takes advantage of this, and he already has his 2 votes, so he doesn't care about the 5th pirate's vote, so he'll give him 0. The 4th pirate will say yes to anything, so he'll also give the 4th 0, so he gets 100. (100-0-0) The 2nd pirate needs at least 3 votes, so he'll take the 4th and 5th pirate (not the 3rd, since he'll get 100 if the 2nd dies, and he'll gain nothing if the 2nd gives him 100, so he'll always say no) Since they both get 0 with the 3rd pirate, the 2nd will give them something better: 1 each. So he'll get 98. (98-0-1-1) The 1st pirate needs at least 3 votes, so he needs to bribe two pirates. Bribe the 3rd pirate and either the 4th or 5th pirate (they cost the cheapest to bribe) and give the 3rd pirate 1 coin (better than 0) and the 4th/5th 2 coins (greater than 1) So he gets 97 (97-0-1-2-0/97-0-1-0-2) The answer is 97 Thank you for taking the time to read this Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
