  1. I'm going to cheat, and say that my favorite AO is 128, by a long shot. (BTW, yes it is an AO, even though it doesn't seem like it )
  2. Overall, horrible. Everything was coincidental, predictable, and Haibara was horribly OOC (until the very end, which was enjoyable). Mitsu's getting Haibara's general situation right was pretty funny though, despite him being about 7-8 years off on Haibara's actual age. Basically this was riding on the awesomeness of Haibara and the random Okiya cameos, neither of which saved it. It was pretty boring and that last picture... I just wish it was the grown up versions of them from OVA 9... that would have been better... As it is... it was totally a fanservice lolicon thing...
  3. I must be one of the few that really didn't like it... I mentioned in the worst movies thread already the three things that I liked but I'll go in to detail what I did and did not like... First of what I didn't like... What I did like: All in all, this movie was reliant on MacGuffins and a contrived mostly meaningless plot which was designed to make it an exciting movie. The mystery was covering for a mystery, which was to make the mystery of Kid... more... exciting... I guess? Yeah...no... It didn't work. This movie worked only because of the interaction between Ran and Kaitou and that ending. But I cannot call a movie with an awesome ending good by any means. Most of the movie was forced and contrived. Was it fun? Sure... But bad movies are often fun because of how bad they are. And that was what 30% of this movie was. The rest was unwatchable tripe. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give this movie a 4/10. (It should have been a 3, but that ending scene was just that good. I would liken this movie to Double Team, horrible movie, but the ending makes it totally worth it) Edit: PS: If you are not sure what a MacGuffin is, or you think it has anything to do with Chek, please google it or ask her.
  4. In order from worst to bearable 11 >>>>>>>>>> 10 >>>>> 9 >>>>>>>>>> 14 >>> 13 Basically... there was NOTHING good or compelling about 11. Absolutely nothing. I tried to think of something, but... nope... can't like it. Hell, it was so bad, I can't remember anything about it other than it was related to pirates... 10 could have been good if it didn't try so hard for the 10th anniversary and include all of the characters. It tried too hard and in doing so it lost a lot. Namely an actual mystery... (No really, the only mystery was why the hell if the guy knew everything already did he need to put the detectives through all of that? Couldn't he have just... you know... told them everything and shown them the evidence?... OH RIGHT! If they didn't do that there would have been no opportunity to hear about Kid... Damn movie...) 9 was just... I mean... I liked how Conan was FINALLY wrong for once and Kogorou finally got it right... but... wth? And that is where what I liked ends... everything else... I really didn't. But hey, at least there was something that I liked right? 14... I don't know what they were thinking with this one... I suppose they just wanted another generic Kid movie... There were actually THREE good things about this movie... 1) The defenestration of Conan (He had it coming) 2) The subsequent scenes with him and Kid especially when they were getting back on... (though using the whole Shinichi is identical to Kaitou thing will get real old real fast as a "disguise"... The next time I see it, it better involve Aoko and Ran in some sort of strange three way with Conan looking on laughing at Kid's predicament)3) The very end. You know what I'm talking about. It made me laugh. I just wonder... Does that mean Ran knows that Kid looks like Shinichi (at least in the movies)? 13... This is as high as it is because I love the BO, but in terms of making any sense it is pretty low. I know movie 12 has a horrible motive (then again we have seen plenty of those), and had some questionable plot devices, but at least it did something with them, and even had an awesome OST. Movie 13 on the other hand was working off of the BO, and they couldn't even get that right. I don't know how you could screw that up, but they did. And honestly, the scene with the helicopter was worse than the scene with the phone in M12 in terms of ridiculousness. I think that does it... 1-6 was the golden times for the movies after that it went all down hill. They became more like action movies than mysteries. Which is why I will always put m12 above the others, because it was an actual mystery.
  5. http://archinect.com/news/article/6666344/immersive-cocoon-step-into-the-future Apparently someone thought it a good idea to bring the driving force of the brunt of movie 6 to life... Now all we need is a child prodigy programmer who will make an unrealistic AI program that will somehow age 5 years every year, and share all of his unfortunate past being taken from his home and separated from his father, which will lead him to try to kill the children of the most influential of Japan... You know... When you think about it... Movie 6 had a pretty convoluted plot... Regardless it is one of my faves (If only for the fact that the DBoys get bumped off mid movie) Regardless.... If they combine that with the VR headset also named "Cocoon"... We got ourselves the exact same thing as M6 only slightly bigger... SO! Whose ready for AI created by a 10 year old? (If that happens I might actually buy into whatever apocalypse theory they have at the time)
  6. 3-6 were the best IMO followed by 12. In order I'd have to rate it... 5 > 6 > 3/4 (can't decide, depends on my mood really) > 12 Honestly, half of the reason I liked 12 so much is because of the OST...
  7. Straight: Vodka Gin Tequila Korn Sherry Bourbon (my personal favorite, Maker's Mark <3 (I liked it BEFORE DC showed it)) Mixed: Vermouth @Ayera: If you were young at the time, that would make sense, because beer is bitter, so most people don't like it until they are older. It could have also been the beer that you had, because there is only one good domestic beer in China (thank the Germans for that).
  8. I don't read fanfiction, and I'll take a guess and say that fics like that are probably part of the reason why.
  9. curious, what ps3 games do you play? also, welcome to DCW
  10. Both of these are from Sherlock Holmes, not Shinichi/Conan. He simply adopted them. Regardless they are good quotes.
  11. Well Tapatalk already supports IP Board 3.x, so it shouldn't be hard to set up. And tapatalk is free. Why would they make you pay for something when they are charging for the app. So I think it just requires him to register. Not sure of how the set-up process is though, or if there is anything special.
  12. Here is what I think thus far.... First off, I voted for BO, because really I want it to be them... Realistically, here is what I think.... First a theory that I have debunked... Theory 1) It really is the black org. Assuming Okiya is Bourbon (sorry chek, but bear with me on this one), he could have stipulated that the girl was Sherry, but didn't have a way to confirm it. Now that they have a picture, they were able to compare with childhood pictures and confirm. Thus they moved to grab her. Reasons why it can't be option 1) The black org are professionals, and would have confirmed their target's identity first. Thus Ayumi would have never been grabbed in the first place. Also they are known to use guns, not tasers. Thus Agasa would be dead, not unconscious. (unless that crazy theory of him being the BO Boss is correct, but for now we'll assume its not) Theory 2) The criminals looked up the professor and determined he had money, seeing as he is an inventor and it is not exactly a cheap profession. If they knew the house then they would also know it is not a cheap neighborhood. Thus they could have been after who they thought to be the old man's granddaughter. Considering that it was a reflection, they could have easily mistaken Ayumi for Haibara if they weren't careful. This theory is entirely possible, but somewhat unlikely due to Gosho's style. It is more likely to have to do with the vase. Theory 3) (the most likely theory) The criminals weren't after the vase, but what was IN the vase. Had they wanted the vase, they would have just taken it. So what likely happened is this... They saw the video on line, and recognized the vase as something they had hidden something valuable in. When Agasa bought the vase what was in it was probably already taken out, but knowing that they are criminals they probably tried to go in pretending to know the value of the vase and asked to look at it. They realized it was their vase, and determined that what they wanted was no longer there, likely assuming that Agasa took it, or knew who had it (the original seller of the vase) so they tased him and kidnapped who they thought was his granddaughter. Whether or not they saw the reflection is inconsequential. If we assume they had, then perhaps they didn't zoom in and only saw the image of a young girl in the glasses and grabbed the wrong person.
  13. That you do, but I find it easier if all my active forums are in one place, and I can save log-ins. Honestly the mobile site looks nicer, but tapatalk is more convenient. At least I think so...
  14. CC wins for recognizing my avatar! Also... yeah... because Chek is awesome...
  15. It would be nice to have this on Tapatalk. As far as I know it is free to do, and it will allow access to the forum for those on the go (given they have the $3 to buy the app) http://www.tapatalk.com/
  16. A while back on DCTP I wrote a short essay-esque reply to someone attacking my negative opinion about Shinichi. So being the good scientist that I am I wrote a reply defending my position with evidence from the series. So just now I thought it would be a nice idea to make a topic listing all of the apparent character traits of the main cast of DC (yes, I'll likely be making one in DCTP as well). And trying to track development of the characters, because in a series this long there should be some development of characters, barring a few staples that shouldn't change (IE Agasa and Megure). I put this in Manga so that people can discuss current changes or trends in the manga that aren't animated yet. So let me begin real quickly with a the two principle characters... Shinichi Positive: -Highly moral in his actions (though this doesn't prevent him from breaking any laws, which could be a topic of itself) -Intelligent -Quick to take action if something is wrong -Cares deeply about those close to him Negative: -Arrogant -Egotistical -(as Conan) Sometimes too quick to action endangering himself and others -Disregards the worries or warnings of others (especially Haibara) -Can be cold hearted Note: When he is acting as Conan, the first two negative traits become lessened greatly. Though as the series progresses his arrogance shows up more and more as Conan, especially if he is only with the DBoys. Progress throughout the series: As he gains experience, he evolves as a character (Shinichi in his teenage body). Every time he transforms he seems to mature a bit. He still tends to be a bit arrogant and egotistical, but due to his situation he progressively becomes less so. And in his latest transformation he finally told Ran his feelings, which is a big step for his character. Ran Positive: -Extremely kindhearted -Believes in the good of others -Is a karate champion -Has a strong will (has to be to wait that long for a guy) -Is EXTREMELY lucky Negative: -Is naive -Easily scared -Can't seem to adapt to seeing death (really bad considering who her father and boyfriend are) -Freezes up or seems to forget that she knows Karate in high stress situations -Believes too highly in the supernatural Note: for the negative with Karate, it is my belief that this is so because she only learned sports Karate, and not practical. Therefore she was never trained to deal with those situations. Though she can use it when others are in danger, she doesn't often when herself is in danger, especially if she believes it is supernatural in nature. Also, her naivety seems to be her most sticking negative trait along with the belief in the supernatural. Progress in the series: Honestly, with the negative she hasn't progressed all that much. Her emotional side is the only thing that has progressed, but it is so erratic that I can't put it as a positive or a negative. Ran is a very two dimensional character. She should have progressed more, but I suppose that would hinder her purpose in the series which seems to change from case to case. Lets do other characters and discuss various progresses or changes. Also, if anyone wants to add to or discuss character traits set forth by others, that would be awesome.
  17. People who tease others about their interests are idiots. Everyone has their guilty pleasures. I don't mean the occasional jest, because that can be about anything no matter how normal. However to honestly tease someone about anything is something immature idiots do. I don't think I have ever been teased about anything. People in my major know about me liking DC, but they pay it no mind. Then again it could be the college I'm in (no I won't tell, as I try to keep my location secret ).... But really there is nothing shameful about enjoying DC. Like any detective series, if read for the mystery, it can only serve to sharpen the mind. In fact, that is probably the argument I'd use if someone ever did tease me about DC. Also, to those who are teased, it is likely that the people teasing have something even more shameful that they like that they don't want you to find out about. I'm not saying fight fire with fire, but remember that you are not ashamed by your interest in DC, and are willing to share it with the world (and honestly you have no reason to be), but they likely enjoy something that they don't want you to find out about, which is why they are likely teasing you in the first place, to cover their own shame (or so I can remember about basic psychology... Haven't taken that class in ages...). That all said, I was never teased nor do I expect I'll ever be teased. Given... all of my friends are nerds themselves and we have... interesting... conversations all the time. In fact, the only thing that I'm surprised that I'm not teased about is that I spend hundreds of dollars on audio equipment (its a very bad hobby/indulgence) (and by hundreds of dollars I really mean that I have several pairs of headphones, and none are worth under $100 except my workout pair which costs a mere $30)
  18. Kyuu Nye

    DC or CC

Detective Conan for the simple fact that that is what it's about. Besides.... Case Closed doesn't describe the series accurately at all... The main case of the series is open, very open. Until Conan catches the BO the case will never be closed. Also the name was chosen in America due to copyright issues. I forget which series posed the problem though.
  19. Aww, but I'm not as crazy as you think! It was the Joker! The Joker made me say those things! Granted... being a scientist means I'll more than likely become a mad scientist... so... yeah, perhaps it is best you keep your distance...
  20. -gets closer- My... father was... a drinker and a fiend... [Oh hell you know the rest...]-puts the knife in your mouth- He turns to me and says "why so serious? LETS PUT A SMILE ON THAT FACE!" -slashes- PS: Never tempt a crazy person
  21. -takes out knife- Why so serious?
  22. Much thanks for the welcome everyone. I'll try to be as active as I can.
  23. Quick throw into the theories... (Though I do think she is an ally and more than likely to be related to Akai, I do think that is a bit too generic and predictable. So I'll put a theory that I want to see in the hopes of making it a bit more interesting...) If we assume that she is not Bourbon (there is no evidence to support that, plus Bourbon is made to seem much older, at least that is how I see it). It would be interesting if she were Bourbon's protégées, and was sent in to Teitan as an agent of the BO and to specifically befriend Ran, who is connected to the two most famous detectives, Mouri Kogorou and Kudo Shinichi. There is also a chance she was sent to investigate Conan Edogawa since he seems to be behind a lot and can stand toe to toe with Kaitou Kid. She already seems to have some information on Conan, and it is likely that she has information on Kudou as well. She could have easily been with Bourbon in America for this time to prepare for this mission and trained in JKD to get close to Ran, or to be able to fight with her in a way that Ran would not be able to defend against in case anything went wrong. I mean it seems like an enormous coincidence that they met on the bus, that she knew who Conan was as well as Ran. She had to have gotten her information from somewhere and the most likely place is from Bourbon and the BO. Reasons why I do not think it would be Akai and the FBI giving information: 1) FBI agents tend not to share information on current assignments with family members, in fact I'd bet they are forbidden to, in the fear of information leaking. 2) Even though Akai could have sent her a message as his last words to her, he doesn't strike me as the type of person who'd do that, as he would likely know that his sister would chase after him 3) She seems a bit young and childish to be an FBI operative... Granted, she could be just a really good actress.
  24. I'll be honest... I mainly signed up here for Chekhov's theories... So, here is my mandatory intro so when I post you'll know who I am... Name: kyuuketsuki (most just abbreviate it to "kyuu") Age: 24 Location: On the third celestial body from the Sun of the Solar System in the Milky Way Galaxy Career: I'm a student studying to be a Molecular Biologist. Favorite OP: Tough to call, but my throw back is anything by the B'z Favorite ED: Not sure... I tend to pay less attention to the EDs... (Also doesn't help that I don't really watch the anime any more... Favorite Cases: Would probably do better with a list, but three that come to mind are Moonlight Sonata case, Clash of Red and Black and the NY Case (sorry can't recall the exact name). Favorite Characters (Good): Haibara Ai/Miyano Shiho, Miwako Satou, Kaitou Kid (though is cases have been quite lack luster lately), and things are looking good for Sera Masumi. Least Favorite Characters(Good): DBoys, and Shinichi (yes, I do not like the main character, but that doesn't mean I cannot like the series itself). Favorite Characters (evil): Vermouth and Bourbon (Don't even care that his identity is unknown, not only is his name my favorite alcoholic drink, he also might turn out to be an actual rival for Shinichi and make some great conflict) Last favorite characters (evil): Gin (I just don't like him...) Vodka (useless much?) (I just realized that I do not like the main protagonist and the main antagonists of this series) Other favorite Anime and Manga: Honestly, I don't watch or read as much anymore... TV Shows: There are a few... the main ones are Doctor Who, Top Gear, science related shows (as in shows relating to science, whether it be documentaries, forensic files or even Big Bang Theory)and White Collar Necessary info: I'm the scanner for DCTP. I've been into DC for a long time (10 years at least), won't give up on it just yet, but I do want to see the ending some time soon. I'm eclectic as hell, and my thought process is just as bad. I'm obviously a scientist and if something is not theoretically possible, I'll not like it. Likewise I'm always looking for evidence, and the more evidence there is the happier I am. Again, I'm basically here to read what Chek has to think and perhaps provide some counter-point occasionally when I have time if I have time. With my current course work it is not much. Not to mention I'll be starting research and internships soon. I am also an avid martial artist... I think that does it.
