  1. It would, but it is still not warranted, and rather unnecessary. So that problem is still an issue. However that would prevent unforeseen expansion that would create issues. That said... The entirety of DCW IRL is small. Let it grow on its own. It is well known enough on this site to allow growth. I know about it, and I'm barely on the site as of late (I open it in browser out of habit but barely look at it). So people know about it, don't kid yourself that. If it is going to grow, it will. At this point facilitating the expansion of something that has no evidence of extreme growth, seems a unnecessary. Right now making a subforum for DCW IRL would be like putting a seedling in a pot that was meant for a large tree. Could the plant grow that large? Maybe, but no one would know. And if it doesn't then its just taking up unnecessary space. And if you think DCW is a role play... then you really need to get out more. DCW is in no way a role play. I used to be a part of several role play communities, and I still role play with friends over chat or IRC. I used to do table tops as well. (DCW IRL is, DCW is not) DCW IRL is a small community driven RP. All I'm saying is leave it be. If it needs a subforum it will get one. Right now it doesn't. The role play community here is small. There is already an archive thread in place so that is good for finding old threads. I'm sure this forum will be glad to make changes for RP/DCW IRL if it is needed. It just isn't now. And I'm sure you can agree with that.
  2. Greetings DCW! I've noticed in my time here, that there is a severe lack of understanding of when or how to use the search function or any other search. So I'm going to give a run through of the different aspects. FIRST! When to use search? Well, the first thing you should always do when starting a topic is check the thread reference guide that Chekhov MacGuffin created! That is a great resource for finding old threads on a variety of topics in relation to Detective Conan. But let's say that you cannot find something similar to the topic you want to create or you are making a topic not in Detective Conan forums (like Chatroom or elsewhere). It is at this point you should always use search. There might already be a topic for what you are creating, or your questions might have already been answered. Where to find search bar (And other searches): Regular search and advanced search act exactly the same way. Advanced allows you to use tags and other parameters, if you know them. Like Date range, Author, and tags. You can also search based on number of posts and number of views. And be aware that the search bar is always there, no matter what (It is the nice thing about IP Boards). On top of that, it will search the specific forum you are in. (So if you are in "General" under Detective Conan. It will only search that forum, unless you select otherwise). And it even goes further than that, being able to search specific threads. (Which is great if you want to find something you know someone wrote in a long thread.) Type of searches (And how to use them): Now there are THREE ways to search this website. The first is the one everyone always tries (if they choose to use search), and subsequently becomes frustrated with. This is known as keyword searching. What does that mean? Well first it means that you can't use words under 4 letters long. This is due to the fact that many 3 letter words and under are too broad or unspecific enough to make the search effective! What it does is this... It will take the words and search all of the words in the forum posts. Trying to find threads in which the words occur. Example: Say like you were looking for Shinichi vs Heiji. If you search that. It will search for the words Shinichi and Heiji. It will disregard the word "vs" So here is a basic search. (I used advanced to show it) Here is the results. Please note how "vs" was completely disregarded, And here is how it actually searches. Notice how the words are NOT in tandem. It finds, in threads, the words. It does not however search thread titles. So that is how that search works! And how to use it. Because of how it is designed, it will give you the most results, but be the least accurate. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The second is what is known as phrase search. What this is, is a search of a specific phrase. So it completely disregards the under 4 letter rule. To use it is very simple. You enclose the search terms in quotes! And here are the results. Notice that only one result shows. Because it is the only thread with that specific string of words. And that does it for the site specific searching. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes, I know I said there were three, but it is really more like three and a half. The last one is GOOGLE! You can use Google to search the contents of ANY site in the same two ways as above. Use it if you don't like the site search or just trust Google more. The way it works is that you type into google site:detectiveconanworld.com/forum/ [search query] (Consequently you can also use this to search the wiki too, just use the right site search.) Both the types described above can be used. But because it is using Google's algorithms, the results are a bit different. So here is just a quick example using the same search terms I've been using. Now there is a benefit to using Google over the site's... Google's search is a bit more flexible, and thus it doesn't have any requirements like "No words under four characters" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So I implore everyone to use all the resources available before creating a new thread, or claiming something wasn't available when it was. And I hope this is useful to everyone.
  3. KKLT, you clearly misread my point. You want a ROLE PLAY forum, specifically for DCW IRL. If threads like that and this one will show up, then an entire forum will as well. Quite possibly not in the way you intend, shifting the entire purpose of that subforum, creating more issues, when people enter looking for one thing, finding another, and starting their OWN RPs because it said "Role Play" Forum. You seem intent on the illusion that everything is perfectly controllable because you have been a part of a rather small and contained RP within DCW as a whole. It might not expand DCW IRL at all! It could actually TAKE AWAY from DCW IRL if other RPs get started up because people either have their own ideas or own wants from RPing in this community that a new Forum will take away from. Which may or may not be DC related. And btw... The forum is unnecessary. I've said that several times. I was referring to the idea, which is silly. I highly doubt that any discussion will harm DCW IRL. The only way it will be hurt is if players get bored and leave it. That is the way ALL RPs are hurt. Point of fact... I don't hate you. I haven't hated any regular.
  4. Huh... KKLT, please explain this screen cap then. Now assuming that an entire (and active) roleplay subforum was made... On the second biggest DC Fansite on the net and the biggest English DC Wiki site was made. Do you really think that it wouldn't get noticed or appear first on searches? Clearly this thread already does. So why not a dedicated forum? And it can grow just fine without a dedicated subforum. It isn't needed for growth. If it reaches the point in growth that a subforum is needed for Roleplay, then I'm sure one will be made at that point. However now, it is just silly. Also, I'd like to thank IdentityUnknown for actually being reasonable and logical.
  5. Tonight I was going to continue Carbon Monoxide analysis, but instead I'm going to get to work on a Search Tutorial, since apparently no one knows how to use it. Pointing it out is clearly not enough

    1. tengaku squared

      tengaku squared

Kyuu, that statement sounds condescending, and all because I commented that you couldn't search up terms with 3 or less characters. Double quotes did not occur to me, but I use them on Google.

    2. Kyuu Nye

      Kyuu Nye

That is probably because it is. I don't know how many times I've pointed out how to use, or where to find the search function on the website.

And it didn't Occur to you? IT TELLS YOU TO DO IT! "Tip: Search for a specific phrase by "enclosing it in quotes"" Right under the Search bar after you get redirected to the main search page after a failed search.

    3. MadelineLime

      MadelineLime

The fact that there are tons of new topics when people clearly don't search for them almost daily speaks volumes about this matter.

  6. Yes you can search for it. Use quotes, try it. I know it's possible because I did it. I really think the problem with a lot of users is that they don't effectively know how to utilize search queries. And the issue of expansion is very real, mainly because of something called " Google" if you add a sub forum for role play it can and will show up on Google. Causing expansion that you may not expect. This thread merely discussing the idea already shows up! You have an archive thread that links to everything, making it easier to find. An entire sub forum is just superfluous.
  7. Actually started adding stuff to Carbon Monoxide analysis. It will slowly get underway

  8. Currently the only RP is DCW IRL. Yes? That is a start and end affair. The only purpose it would serve is to act as an archive for past plays. But you know what? Site search does the same. Since searching for "DCW IRL" will serve as essentially the same thing, if you really need to look up old threads of the RP. As for everything else, that doesn't actually change my point, whether it is DC related or not. There need to be general rules, because it would branch out (in other words universal RPing rules that won't be breached, which would maintain fairness). There would need to be special moderation. There would be constant moving. The needs of RP forums are totally different from most other forums. There is a reason why most forums don't have RP even though the fandoms clamor for them (and those that really want them, tend to create their own forums specifically for RPing purposes). Because of the work and the drama they bring. Most forums keep it to communal discussion, and all others specify that they are an RPing forum. DCW IRL is fairly contained as far as I can tell, so asking, for perhaps a log area for past RPs I understand more. But a whole other RP subforum? Not so much. However, it would be specific to DCW IRL. The second it expands past that problems occur again. There are things to consider if they are long spanning or spread across many threads. First is how to keep track of everyone's character. Character creation is one of the core essences of RPing. Character logs: how to keep track of what each character has done. Further subforums if it does take off. Unless you want the new RP subforum to become clogged and confusing with multiple RPs going on at once. Constant moving of threads, taking out old ones and moving them to inactive (unless of course you have sufficient subforums created). Clearly you are only thinking short term, which is ease of use of DCW IRL. Which can easily be remedied by methods previously stated. Long term RP forums take a lot of upkeep. I'm not sure you realize that. If it grows, like you hope it will, it will only become exponentially more trouble as time goes on and it gets more popular. As it stands the RPing community here isn't big enough to warrant a separate subforum. This why Carpet Crawler brought up DCTP (or so I assume). DCTP has just as large, if not a larger RPing community than DCW, yet does fine without an RP subforum. Why? Because it is simply not needed for the amount of RPing that actually occurs, and would only bring more complications. The RPs are self-contained and searchable if you want to go back and read. Leave it at that. This is simply not needed. In essence, you are asking for the admin and mods to take on additional responsibility and work, just so you can find a few threads a bit easier, Use the search function. It is rather simple. tl;dr: It isn't like there are many different RPs here. There is only one. Use the search to find old threads, and problem is solved without the creation of a new subforum, which can potentially bring more problems.
  9. Sorry, but that is against site policy. This site does not support piracy of any kind.
  10. Regardless of the comparison of DCTP to DCW here is how I view it... Pointless. Why? 1) As of current there is only one game that would be put there. A whole subforum for one game doesn't make any sense. 2) What else WOULD you roleplay on DC specific forum? DC? That doesn't seem to be in high demand. DCTP used to have an IRC for DCRP, its pretty much dead now. And everything else? Well can't you go to a roleplay specific forum? 3) The moderators are here are not used to moderating role play type forums, as opposed to RP specific threads where the moderators are used to moderating RP related threads. Not one moderator here would know what to start. And the nature of roleplay tends to create tension. You need moderators whom are experienced in such things. It would create a lot of trouble imho. Especially if people get too into character and start taking offense to things that were said about their character by another character. 4) Everything withstanding that, a proper RP forum would need to have separate rules and regulations so that it is fair and fun for all. That way people don't power trip. Again, this creates issues with work load for moderators. (A general set, separate from thread specific rule sets) 5) Maurice runs this site. Considering everything I said, and the fact that he created this for Wiki, not for Roleplay. Why spread the task of this forum even further? This is just my take. It is more trouble than it is worth and honestly. Keep this website as a discussion and wiki site. That is what makes the most sense. If you want to organize specific RPs I'm sure no one will stop you. You can make a thread here, do live over IRC. It is all up to you. However, creating another forum for mods to worry about is just unfair, and again pointless since it is a small group of people.
  11. You have a problem for the anime then... Everything after around episode 120 is a spoiler to you, and it will remain that way since Funimation has ceased efforts to sub and dub the series as far as I know. Case Closed was not a successful venture for them, they kept it going for as long as they did because the little fan clamor they got showed hope, but in the end it fell flat and people simply weren't buying. Knowing this, I don't think it is logical for the forum administrator to add in a separate subforum for a dub/sub that is dead in the water. I know you enjoy it, and I wish we could help, but really it just isn't logical. Case Closed anime is as good as dead. As for the Viz manga well... I'll leave that up to Maurice, but it would really be a subforum under the Manga subheader if it was implemented. Same would go for the General subforum. It just doesn't make much sense to do. Many fans have moved on. Viz is up to Vol 44 and the series is up to 79. The reason why you can't find any forums catering to just Case Closed is because there really just aren't enough Case Closed only fans. Yes we have some here, but the proportions are just not enough to warrant any major changes. There are far more fans that watch the subs of Detective Conan. While all of this is unfortunate for Case Closed only fans like yourself, it is the current state of the fandom.
  12. Too many to list. Just posting to make a few comments. Beatles were pop music. They made an impact and did some things other groups weren't doing. Were they fantastic? Nope. Are they overrated? Most certainly. But they aren't bad. They deserve at least a bit of respect, even if they were all about image (They were, their very first drummer was basically fired because he didn't fit the image they were going for). Green Day... Earlier stuff good... Later stuff just bad. Lady Gaga knows how to market herself. She is extremely talented, and I can't hate her for choosing to be popular and going in that direction. She is fantastic acoustically. That said and on topic, the only artists I really have pure disdain for are artists like LMFAO, Rebecca Black, Nikki Minaj, Kesha, and the like, whom can barely hold a tune let alone create meaningful and thought provoking lyrics and songs. I also hate Justin Bieber for many many reasons. Mostly because he is a stupid kid who got lucky and isn't really talented musically. He is basically the flavor of the generation teenage heart throb. I don't like rap, but I don't hate it, nor can I hate people that, by definition, I don't like the majority of what they produce, there are some brilliant word smiths in the rap scene, and I respect that. I just have too much of a bias against rap as an overarching genre to make a fair call on. I'm not the target of their music. I do like some rap and hiphop though.
  13. Objectively, Shinichi is the better detective. Subjectively... Shinichi is boring and predictable. Therefore I prefer Heiji.
  14. [Western] Boxing vs JKD, JKD wins, because its more well rounded. Eastern, like Muay Thai, depends on the JKD practitioner's abilities with grappling and trapping. JKD also has western boxing integrated into it as well in foot work and punching. Granted, a superior Boxer will beat an inferior JKD practitioner, as it can only take one punch from a good boxer to knock out their opponent.

  16. Personally, I found it too simple. And APTX is a toxin, not a magical shrinking drug. That is a rare side effect, that doesn't occur often (most subjects die, human and rodent). To assume Ran would shrink due to taking it, or that she would even take a strange capsule that she randomly found is just something I can't agree with. Another issue is Anokata taking prisoners. Based on what we have seen of the Black Org, that isn't their style, as it would potentially reveal themselves. If they had the capacity to find and kidnap the Shonen Tanteidan and know their connection to Sherry and Kudo, they'd merely kill the Shonen Tanteidan, Kudo, Ran, Kogorou, Sera, Sherry and pretty much everyone else involved in this attempt to stop them or people related to.
  17. It links to their Pixiv profile... Is there something I should be looking for?

Thoughts? They won't. They said the same thing about the massacre at The Dark Knight Rises midnight screening. They never showed up. However the thought and the things they already do should be enough to grant them great hatred. I'm still waiting for the day that they will be branded as a hate group like the KKK. I am really hoping that this petition will take hold and make them into a hate group that will be regulated. In fact, if you can, SIGN THAT PETITION! (And yes, those are the only petitions that I actually will condone since they go directly to the government and are supported by the government. It isn't like a Change.org petition (or any other nongovernment affiliated petition site))

Just use the British definition of fag! And the original definition of gay! Fag - a tiring or unwelcome task (or British Slang for "cigarette") The derogatory word is fairly modern (around 1920s)... shame that it caught on... Gay (original definition) - lighthearted and carefree (Consequently the term being made to mean homosexual is fairly recent too... about the 1930s. And to mean stupid, even more so, and nonsensical at that)
