  1. Ok, ok, here we go. First of all, I had already watched this movie about a week ago when it came out raw, and I have to say I thought it was more enjoyable the second time around (the english subs probably helped).

Anyway, let's start with the negative aspects :

-A certain repetitiveness in the use of the music at some points, mostly during the first half in fact.

-After being right into the action at the beginning, the story slows down a bit too much. I don't mind that when it's for the investigation, but in this case it was mostly used for a bunch of annoying scenes with the Detective Boys (eating, buying souvenirs, getting lost : boy was that scene with the 'words are swords' cheesy...).

-Even if an effort was made to balance action and mystery, some progress still needs to be made, mostly by taking out some of the aforementioned scene and having the case occupy the screne a bit more.

-Some loose ends left after the case is solved.

-The secondary characters felt a bit flat. Not one of them stood out like Reiko in movie 12 or Irish in movie 13 (even if I don't like that movie).

    For the postive now :

-The use of music during the action scenes and while Conan was being rescued was perfect. Some other tracks where quite nice too (when we see the DB slaying).

-Not too many action scenes. Furthermore they were well balanced.

-Absolutely beautiful animation for the landscapes. This made some scenes like the one with the diamond dust or the one with Conan, Ran and the trees with lights even more enjoyable.

-Except for those 20-25 minutes where the movie does get a bit tiresome, the pacing is great and well handled for a 109 minute movie.

-The humour is classic : Kogoro and women, Haibara and Agasa, Conan's inner comments...but it works and that's all I'm asking for.

-There is some fanservice, but it's reasonable and isn't shoved down our throats.

-The ending was very emotional. The music helped a lot. In fact the whole drama worked pretty well.

-There was an effort made to have an actual case, and despite its weaknesses, it wasn't as bad or insignificant as I thought it was when I watched the RAW. Furthermore, at the end, apart from those little loose ends, almost everything was correctly tied together.

After having watched it once, I ranked it under movie 12. Now, I would rank it along movie 12 or maybe even movie 1. Overall, we have an enjoyable story with decent pacing, nice humour, some emotion and a decent case (despite there being room for improvement). Considering the director is new, I say he's done a pretty good job. This movie gets a 7/10 from me. (P.S : Movie 14 would get a 2.5 and Movie 13 a 5).

  2. I heard on the news the other day that China's judicial système (which is very very imperfect) sometimes doesn't bother to go after the culprits (especially when it's assumed that it's going to be hard to find them) and even accuses the people who get involved even if they wanted to help. Such a disfunction might explain why these people were so cautions and just ignored what was happening being scared of the consequences they might face if they had gotten involved.

  3. her fans are amazingly annoying, like, they encompass everything that i hate about anime fandom, they even go out and make ran mouri facebook pages, and it's amazingly annoying to a casual fan when I see obsessive crap like that

The thing is, that obsessive crap (which I think is a bit odd) is used by a good portion of the anime fandom. Not that it makes it any better, but for every manga/anime/character you'll have these hysterical obsessed and usually intolerant people who mainly stick to saying : 'This or this is the best manga/anime/character everrrrrrr' or 'so so so epicccccccccccc' or 'your opinion sucks if you disagree'. You meet people like that in all fandoms : manga, anime, music, movies, tv shows etc...

  4. Negative aspects :

-too many pointless scenes (with the DB) : let's go shopping, let's go eat something, let's have a snowball fight, let's have the DB get lost and saved by Conan to fill 10 minutes of the movie (why do a 110 minute movie instead of a 90 minute movie ?). Because of that, the case takes too long to begin despite the action sequence at the beginning (it took 52 minutes for someone to die !). In fact the movie is very DB orientated which most of you/us will not like.

-some repetitiveness in the use of some tracks.

-the secondary characters felt a bit flat.

-the case was rather average, if not boring at times.

    'Positive' aspects :

    -top-notch animation, as usual.

-the music overall is still quite good, especially during the action sequences.

-ok use of humour, or at least better than 14's.

    -quite emotional in the end.

-the action scenes were handled quite well.

-not too much fanservice. And the little the movie had didn't feel forced.

-at least there was some kind of case...

Overall, I would rank it under movies 1-5 and 12 and above movies 6-8, 10-11 + 13-14. It's still an average movie at best.

  5. I've been the only person arguing this for eons, glad to see people FINALLY agreeing with me. From 10-14, 12 has been the only good one and a step in the right direction. Then they took steps back with 13.

I understand your relief. It makes me lose hope in mankind when I see that people prefer movies 13 and 14 to movie 12.

Myanimelist grade of the movies (on 10) :

    Movie 12 : 8.01

    Movie 13 and 14 : 8.45

Why would they bother writing decent/good movies with an ok case and somewhat interesting characters (Reiko) when they can just satisfy the people with annoying action scenes, crappy fanservice ('OMGGGGG the BOOO !!!!!!' 'Conan and Kid together kakkoiiiiiiii') and a lame case (if any at all).
