It's usually no big deal if an internet friend slips off for a day, a week, or even months. After all, people have real lives, and on the internet you can slip in and out like a shadow- and with your disappearance, you become forgotten. But one day, this missing, forgotten person makes a reappearance. It's not a reappearance, really. It's just a single status update, one of those links that everyone posts. It's not a website that you recognize, but you decide to click anyways- maybe it's a funny picture or something like that. What you find is a single paragraph, a plea for help that instantly makes your blood run cold.

This is the first day that I've been able to get away, but it won't be long before they catch me. You need to save us, please. I can hear them already- please, you're our only hope. Search the news- it'll tell you everything you need to know. If anyone can help us, it's you guys.

I've been missing long enough anyways, it's almost true. :V My AP Chemistry homework kidnapped me... well, not in-story, but that's why I haven't been here. X) Okay people! Now go make up a fun little story for me to screw around with every few days. >:3 I believe the first 8 to sign up get a spot here...? This topic helps increase awareness and knowledge about the different kinds of things that may endanger our lives. By increasing our awareness we can be able to protect ourselves and avoid actions that may cause danger to us and or to anyone else. It's good to let everyone know about these stuff.

If we know the different things that may cause life endangerment, we can use it to our advantage and start to take action to protect ourselves as early as necessary.

"Prevention is better than cure." We should try our hardest to know more about things that may endanger our lives so that we'll be able to take action and prevent it from happening to us or to anyone else by helping them increase awareness.

That's why this thread is called "Life is precious, help protect it." By increasing awareness, we can be able to protect ourselves and by protecting ourselves we're also taking part in protecting lives.

While I agree no one should be killed, this kind of makes me think of Facebook where people go 'Like' to help cure cancer! Unless we actually volunteer to go to these countries or donate money (which I wouldn't recommend unless you trust the charity won't use the money for their own selfish means, which unfortunately, many do) to the cause, sitting here on the computer and typing 'I support the cause!' is going to do nothing. Most people already know this stuff after all. Unless you go sponsor a program that delivers speeches talking about these topics in poorer areas where things like this are more prevalent, I'm going to be honest and say we're not doing anything. If this is a petition, well... you have to be more specific than 'save innocent lives.' From what? I mean, you could start a petition telling NATO to protect children from becoming soldiers in Africa and they would listen if you got a few million signatures. (though... I bet they're already trying.) I think that's probably what Chels was trying to say, though, in less harsh and pessimistic tones than me. X) Words on the internet don't do anything on a small site like this- they only start to take meaning when taken into real life...

I agree completely with Pyre... The only times I'd really suggest posting stuff here is- getting feedback on something you don't really want to put on ff.net, or trying to get someone to look at it (hopefully) before you publish it elsewhere because you don't have a beta. (or you're just really nervous about posting it.) I mean, the story section used to be more active (as well as the drawings section), but now, as Pyre said, the number of active members is pretty low. (and most of those wouldn't bother with this section of the site.)

I haven't really looked at your other thread (I'm trying to complete something for a contest) and I just want to say that three sentences isn't really enough to demonstrate someone's writing ability. It sounds more like a summary- and that would probably more fit for a status update. Like asking people "Does this idea sound cool? *insert summary here*" and getting that type of feedback there. If you're going to start a topic, you should at least have a prologue or part of a chapter for people to actually read a story.

Sorry if I sound negative, but as Pyre said, posting here gets you about zero attention. I did it when it was more active, and usually just so people who never, ever went on ff.net to read it. (but most of the members who did review.... I haven't heard from a good portion of them in a while.) Good luck with your fanfiction though!
