I'm trying to formally write my own interpretation of the "Motives/Goals" of these suspicious characters. Wakita Kanenori: The most suspicious and devious of the lot but it's not easy to figure out his game. In his introduction chapter he tried to become closer to Kogoro by asking him to make him(Wakita) his(Kogoro's) dsciple also he purposively lured out the Sleeping Kogoro by making a petty mistake and already has a idea about the main factor(Conan) behind the ruse of sleeping Kogoro. So it can be safely implied that Wakita is here to investigate sleeping Kogoro. Also it was a follow up event after Gin mentioning that "Kogoro got entangled in Soul detective's murder, so Gin wanted to make sure that whether Kogoro's involvement was just accidental or intentional. So that the next course of action can be decided accordingly. After that Wakita pops up, thus it would be clear that he's a BO operative going in to investigate Kogoro. Looks to be the most cunning and devious of the lot because Conan is yet to become suspicious of him. In this panel we can clearly see that Wakita is already on the verge of noticing Conan's antics. Now comes the next one, my favourite too Wakasa Rumi: She seems to be a klutzy elementary school teacher but acts like a secret agent. Her name is eerily similar to the dying message of Kohji case. The way in which she is getting entangled in serious/heinous crimes is something also worth mentioning. Let's start with her introductory chapter, she appears to be a klutzy school teacher but in the fight with the goons she had shown her mettle. But her behaviour is sporting various anomalies. In her introductory chapter it was implied that someone had opened the trapdoor even before the detective boys were led inside by Rumi. The alive members of the robber gang only came after the news was published so they can be ruled out. Conan never entered the warehouse. The door wasn't that heavy, even Conan opened it with using a bit of force. So why the person who discovered the corpse didn't call the police instantaneously? So here comes my conjecture, Rumi already opened the trapdoor and saw the corpse, then she led the DB into the house and acted as it that she discovered the corpse with them.But if Rumi's main intention was laying low and getting friendlier to the DB then this whole thing makes no sense. Because finding out a corpse in a school's warehouse is bound to become a sensation and Rumi would be all over the news as the only adult present in the time of the discovery. Also Rumi was the one who led the group into the warehouse again and purposively gave out a hint to Conan, "Ebisu-Kao" and the cipher and the skeleton was trending online. So there was a chance that the robber group might be sneaking around and leading the DB directly into the house would mean an eventual confrontation and publicity for Rumi. But Rumi didn't care about it. She doesn't care if she's in the news. Even in the Golfer murderer case, the way she made a scenario to invite the DB directly into her lair and the Cona finds the receipt. The person who has the intellectual capacity to drop hints for Conan is making such an avoidable mistake is very less likely. So a conclusion can be that She's giving signals to Conan to figure out that she's something more than her appearance. Now in the latest chapter it is proven beyond doubt that Rumi is someone with a great understanding of behavioural psychology as her "Conversation with the Sumito guy is 100% reverse psychological procedure." She recognized that Sumito is a control freak so she took away the the notion of control from him. Now the way Rumi reacted by the mere mention of the word prosthetic showed that she has some personal vendetta against the word or the person with whom she associates the word Prosthetic. The way in which Rumi actively glared to Kuroda was also unnatural. If Kuroda is just another person with whom Rumi had no previous connection then why such a glare was intended or it had something to do with Kuroda's appearance? The way Rumi reacted ensured that Kuroda's suspicion that Rumi's something more than a school teacher. Haibara never felt any pressure from Rumi before but when the word prosthetic triggered Rumi ,Haibara felt the pressure. It wasn't Rumi per say but her glare which unnerved Haibara or we know that someone was keeping an eye on the developments, maybe it was that someone's vision which unnerved Haibara? Also the way Kuroda mentioned, "That person was never like this....." he was referring to someone whom he knows quite closely like a friend/accomplice/colleague. That person can't be Conan/DB or Agasa. There are two persons of interest, Haibara and Rumi. I can't negate Haibara because there are people alive in that universe who knew Haibara quite closely. So who was his object of observation Rumi or Haibara? There is also a minor point in this regard Why Haibara felt a pressure when Rumi was glaring and grabbing her pocket but felt nothing when she was glaring at Kuroda? When Haibara felt the pressure, she was standing with her back towards Rumi. Till now Haibara feels BO pressure by mere presence of the said members only one noteable exception is "Akemi planning the Bank robbery." So when Haibara's blood relatives plan something malevolent she gets the sensation but the mere presence of BO members trigger her sensation. That's why despite having the sensation Haibara says that she wouldn't be tolerating any shit-talk about Wakasa Rumi Sensei and she likes her. That's a very tall claim to make about someone who was giving off BO smell just sometime ago. Rumi's actions during and her concern for Ayumi won't be enough under normal circumstances to wipe off Haibara's concerns. Because once she gets BO pressure from someone it takes time for her. So maybe it was something characteristically different. That's why she was able to make a tall claim. So probably in my Opinion Rumi has come out to hunt down Rum and she's using her name and media to attract Rum's attention. She has a personal vendetta against Rum and Haibara trusts her and likes her and won't let her closest ally to badmouth her. Probably Haibara thinks the Rumi is her blood relative.

How about this, in this Rum arc all the suspicious persons are from BO, Kuroda: A watchdog of BO who had gotten into the accident in which Haibara's parents supposedly died? Rumi : Haibara's mom, came down rushing to protect her little girl and shrunken relative from Rum? Wakita: A BO spy sent to watch over Mouri Kogoro, but not Rum.

We are forgetting two very very important links in this Rum arc. Kuroda was in Coma for 10 years. Rumi emphasised during her introduction that she's "10 years older than the Homeroom-teacher." I can really see Gosho giving us a hint about the dynamics between Kuroda and Rumi. This hint also nullifies the chance of Rumi being Vermouth.

Rumi isn't Vermouth. Rumi is someone who wants to attract attention of Conan, (else her introductory case would make no sense at all, Conan even deduced that someone other than the robbers did open the trap door.) There's no point in for Vermouth to judge Conan's ability, cause she already knows his ability first-hand.(The first case with Rumi would become irrelevant.) If Vermouth was really Rumi, then why did Conan found the receipt in her apartment? A BO member doing a covert op and knowing fully well about capabilities of Conan, can't be so reckless to keep the receipt lying around the floor. Why she's bound to portray herself as clumsy? It doesn't serve any purpose in-fact it's counter productive cause Rumi's actions in crunch situations betray her clumsiness. Why did Rumi react to Kuroda's continuous provocations? If you say that it was her way of obtaining information from Kuroda then the counter point is in doing so she became more suspicious than before. If she's really Vermouth then she has the whole logistical support of BO and all the time she needs, but she's rushing recklessly like a hungry shark which contradicts the assumption that Rumi is Vermouth. Her name attracted Kuroda's attention and the Kurda's remarks made sure that he knows Rumi well enough to comment on her preferences. We don't have any proof or hint that Kuroda and Vermouth ever clashed, but something funnier seems to have appeared. Kuroda was in a Coma for "10 years." Rumi in her maiden introduction, mentioned the term "10 years." I guess the hint to solve the puzzle is this 10 years stuff.

That's why I said that after the fall, glass piece theory is negated. It's irrational/self-defeating for Vermouth to behave as you have mentioned above. I'll give you the reason, Vermouth's goal isn't to become the next Christopher Reeve, who famously said, that his director told him to forget about the dual role and think like, "You're playing Superman, who is playing Clerk Kent." So here our great actress is playing the role of Wakasa Rumi, where Wakasa Rumi is playing the beast mode. I think Vermouth knows the difference between being Chris Reeve and being Peggy Tylor. Again resorting to wishful thinking, are we? If there's no real script then why Rumi flips and flops between a beast and nincompoop? Why she appears to be dumb when in reality she isn't? If I assume her to be Vermouth, then the moment she saw Kuroda in the tent, she would be alert and need to act normal. Just to ensure ,someone is suspecting her or not, she would never behave in a suspicious manner, it's a self defeating approach, it will only doom her mission. Cause if she is really Vermouth she doesn't need a confirmation by her antics, she already knows it, cause the other camping party was a regular bunch and the DB is a regular kiddy group, so it leaves only her, Conan and Hibara. But Conan and Hibara are just two kids, why the prefectural chief would take an interest in them? But the way Kuroda mentioned One-eye to her, it was clear like daylight that Kuroda was suspecting her, still she reacts to draw more suspicion, is she a stupid drunk or the very mention of Rum ticks her off? Neither looks be Vermouth's trait cause Vermouth is a cool and calculating person not a hot head. No, Kuroda isn't illogical too. Kuroda's problem with this person was her name, cause her name clearly draws attention towards the Koji case and her mannerisms and exploits tell us that she's a more than it meets the eye. That's why Kuroda is behind her and if anyone wanted to provoke the other to verify his suspicion then it was Kuroda, he constantly provoked her by "One eye" and Rumi gave him a piece of her mind thus justifying his suspicion, here Kuroda was the master player not Rumi. Yup she was going to pull off a Subaru, but the culprit could still spill the beans to Kuroda and the Keiji-san, so she risked it, unlike Vermouth, who would have offered herself to be the hostage instead of Ayumi and would have behaved like another worried school teacher, not a battle hardened psychologist. It has already slipped out and thanks to her own undoing. Forget about the two high-profile cases that she has solved with her Kodomo-group? In that universe all the connected parties are fully aware of her name. No, she has had those glasses for a long time, that's why she can do stuff with ease. From personal experience I know that if the power of the glass and eye requirement don't match then it screws up one's eyes. Vermouth intentionally won't do anything to hurt her eyes, btw those specs are powerful, cause the way Rumi is portrayed gives me that impression.

That "U"-glass thing is really illogical, cause after this fall of Rumi, that thing would surely have broken into pieces or injured Rumi's butt. Even after the fall the thing still is intact and Rumi's butt is as healthy as possible. The tear-drop of Rumi can also be interpreted as a tear of repentance. She talked about some horrible shit which she didn't mean in the first-place. Otherwise the tear makes no sense, if she was really honest about those words then the outcome would make no impact on her, but if she didn't mean those utterances then those things surely will take a toll on her psyche. Vermouth doesn't like to do such things when she's disguising as someone else, because playing a character who also plays another character isn't really helpful to a covert op. like her. If Rumi was Vermouth she would have behaved like any other worried and afraid elementary school teacher and would have let Kuroda or the inspector to take charge of the situation. If she was really Vermouth, then why she's ruffling her feathers with Kuroda? Does a police chief's undue attention help in any way, a BO covert op.? Why Kuroda was making statements as if he knew Rumi like the back-end of his palm? Why Rumi used her mastery of using reverse psychological trick to disarm the culprit despite knowing that Kuroda's one eye is on her all the time? Isn't it another nail in her coffin cause now not only Kuroda but Conan also is hot on her heels. The name Wakasa Rumi looks to be very provocative due to its resemblance with "ASACA RUM", if BO is so touchy feely about the very name Asaca, that they even went to investigate an unrelated old song's composer then why a BO operative would use that name? Won't it be counter productive cause too much attention would be generated and focused on that person? Why Rumi acts like a nincompoop when she isn't? We all have seen that in her disguises that Vermouth blends in with the character and avoids situations when her disguise could be blown up. Now she's doing exactly opposite in her supposed "Rumi" avatar. If Rumi has problems with her vision, then how come she can fight off the goons and elbow the golfer with exact precision? Her spectacles also don't look as a part of the disguise, infact her specs looks like to be a part of her daily life. If she can fight and do all other stuff with them, then I'm sure it's her specs and they are not disguise. Why the sudden change in Haibara's attitude towards Rumi? If she felt BO pressure from her? But then she felt the pressure when she reacted to the word "Prosthetic", Haibara in general felt her presence to be neutral. And then when Conan is going in for the kill she dissuades him, probably Haibara has already figured out Rumi's identity and wants to take a swift revenge on Conan for his antics in Subaru-arc.

That's what I was also thinking about. Rumi is connected with Haneda.

I never implied it was my theory, but what if the bodyguard and Haneda already knew each other, to protect the lady better "ASACA" disguised as Haneda,because in that way nobody can figure out that the lady already has a body guard, because No Shogi master is generally recruited as bodyguards, in fact the lady spending a lot of time with the body guard would look like just another old fan-girl of the shogi master. BO aren't the mugging type assassins, they won't break into your hotel room to kill you at night, so the bodyguard had no need stay with his charge all the time. As far as the disguise goes, I'm pretty sure plastic surgery was done in the first place with consent of Haneda Kohji. DNA and fingerprint report doesn't mean anything if there isn't a DNA and fingerprint repository for all citizens, cause Haneda wasn't a criminal, if such repository wasn't there then fingerprint and DNA would be of no help for identification purposes. Though I would say it's a mere ridiculous rebuttal from my part against those people who are bent on proving that Rumi is Vermouth.

The real Rum is prowling around. He/she knows that someone is trying to dig up the Haneda Kohji case, so he/she would be very cautious and any mention about that case would be primarily important for Rum. Now attracting Rum's attention by faking herself as Rum and getting close to Conan is actually very dangerous. It's like "A tiger is on the prowl and and the fox knows where her little rabbit friend is hidden, but she intentionally sniffs around the hole, while the Tiger is prowling around. It does no good to the rabbit." I never claimed that Asaca is Rum, all I said was that Rumi had knew the details of the case. BO is more worried about "ASACA" not about the mention of Rum. There would be tons of Japanese women with this name, yet when they heard about the song, they went straight ahead to investigate. This name is very important, they want more information about Asaca. If Asaca was Rum then this song would have had no meaning to them, cause there are tons of Asacas. Also the fact remains that nobody knew Asaca's gender and the soul detective thought that Asaca was female. Asaca was a bodyguard for the American lady, but nobody saw his/her face and also the relationship between the lady and Haneda Kohji. Even if Haneda was killed by Rum, then why Haneda's name comes after Shinichi's name in the list? It forces me to conclude that Rum despite being the killer had doubts. So she/he covered it up by putting it on APTX's prototype. Infact the American lady was BO's target, and the lady knew hell lot about BO. Rum wanted to silence her, the lady hired Asaca for protection. She probably told Asaca to hide her face and gender cause else BO would find ASaca's family and force her to to co-operate them in the assassination mission.Now Asaca did just like he/she was told. Now here comes the tricky part, in an assassination attempt, why would Rum let go of the bodyguard? I do have a theory for that and also the name Haneda Kohji appearing on the list after Shinichi's name. Because Rum wasn't sure whether he/she killed Haneda Kohji or not? Was it the real Haneda? What if Asaca was a man and changed getup with Haneda maybe due to the latter's advice to trick Rum. Because the American lady had no need to be present in the room of Haneda, if she was threatened and already had a boduguard, why the dody guard was not present in Haneda's room while she visited there?. Because Asaca was absent from the scene and probably some agency(FBI/CIA) was on the lady's tail, Rum faked a dying message, implicated Asaca but forgot that the man he killed was Asaca not Haneda. Now real Haneda discovers the scene, he's already treated as dead. He gets afraid, cause if he surfaces he also will be killed. So he goes underground, does a sexual reassignment surgery, investigates about the BO,probably she met Kuroda by this time and had fallen out with him for some reason, then pops up as Wakasa Rumi, already got some info about Mouri Kogoro's bag of wisdom, goes after Conan.

My problem is a logical one and as far I'm concerned that you can't possibly know the truth if you're not Gosho. Now a person with such a poor depth perception can't be this fierce in a fight. So there are two options in front of me, Rumi doesn't rely on depth perception in a fight, that means she fights without using her eyes, which isn't the case as we have seen her fighting with people with an open eye. Rumi has a prosthetic eye lense, which she's using to keep up the Rum appearance so that Conan is forced to make a move. Her both eyes are working enough but she's using a prosthetic lense to notch up her Rum impersonation. Clearly the impossible one is the first one so I accept the second Hypothesis. Now the next question is her motive and identity. Her name is very similar to the dying message in Haneda kohji's case. She's impersonating a certain one eyed persona. From these two lines we can interpret that she's trying to get someone to notice her and that someone should be aware of the dying message. If she had another motive other than this she wouldn't posing as a Rum candidate because it'll attract attention. So let's evaluate the claim that she's Vermouth. Her motive could be a certain investigation about someone. If that someone is Okiya Subaru then she's using the DB as a tool get closer to him, but then why she's attracting Conan's attention? Cause Conan is an ally of Subaru and Vermouth noticed that little conversation between them during the "ASACA-song" case. So Vermouth should be avoiding Conan at any cost if she's going to investigate Subaru. But the contrary is happening. Why did she started to pick a verbal spat with Kuroda? She can't let the police chief to get wary of her. Burboun and Subaru have already shown that there's bad blood between them, so why she can't let the "Best insightful mind in the whole B.O." to tackle Subaru? Another claim can be that she's assessing whether Conan is interested in Kohji case or not? BO is shown to be very touchy-feely about the name "ASACA" that's why they (Burboun and Vermouth) rushed to investigate the singer, everyone in BO is keeping a tab on this thing and Gin even stated that Rum screwed up this double murder.Now if she's provoking Conan to think that Rumi is the real Rum, then she's just exposing Conan to more danger. Suppose the real Rum is lurking behind the shadows and gets a hold on Conan's uncanny resemblance with Shinichi then Conan's life would be at risk. Gin hates Vermouth, if Gin gets a tab on this situation then Conan is a dead meat. So why, Conan's protector would do something to jeopardize her silver bullet? The real Rum is not very far from this situation as the Kohji case files gets repeatedly uploaded despite being taken down several times. So Rum is already in the picture and now getting a reaction from Conan while Rum is in the background won't do any good. My conclusion, Rumi is not Vermouth. Rumi is someone who knows about the dying message, sending signals to Conan to approach her and she's hates Kuroda's guts and is not really a good actress.

You're missing my point. I'm asserting the fact that why a person like Vermouth would wear powered glasses in the first place,she can easily wear fake powerless ones like Conan. Now let's remember the fight with the goons. If a person can't judge how much lower to stoop for a formal Japanese greeting and ends up headbutting the desk, then I've serious problems with the same person accurately elbowing the Golfer or the first goon. Even if your theory is to be believed, she could have just thrown away her spectacles before starting the fight. But she didn't, in fact I guess she's also playing the role of an one eyed person, cause one eyed people lack depth perception. Her headbutting the table proves lack of depth perception in the first place, not problem occurring from wearing glasses. You're right that Rumi is provoking Conan to notice her, but not because of her being Vermouth but because she needs Conan to gun down the Rum. If Vermouth was behind the case she would be searching for the user uploading Haneda Case files, she won't be roaming around with "Notice me, Conan" signboard.

But then, Rumi's idea of getting plates and food for the DB even before the the fiasco in the school happened makes a potent contradiction. IF Rumi wasn't used to wearing glasses her beast mode fight wouldn't have been possible. She fought the goons with the glasses on, elbowed the golfer with still glasses on. So it shows she is used of wearing glasses. If it was Vermouth, then she would have worn powerless spectacles. So Rumi is a genuine person. And also creating a persona which never existed is neither easy nor smart. If you invent a persona out of thin air you need to have a fake birth certificate, fake school leaving certificate, fake address proof, fake driving license etc.Vermouth generally disguises herself as a genuine person, not as invented personas. So probably Vermouth isn't Wakasa Rumi, but now if Rumi was Rum, she would have had experienced the troubles of having a single working eye. Thus her other senses like hearing would have peaked up to compensate the loss of her eye. Here Ayumi was calling her, from her right side but she was deep in thought so she didn't hear her and then when she heard her she acted as if she's blind in one eye, only to draw more suspicion as Rum. She's like that girl in class, who is eager for "Senpai" to notice her, but senpai is just too engrossed with a lot of other stuff so she's getting mad and dejected. Her plan was like provoke Conan to encounter her and then she'll spill everything about the Khoji case. We know that Haneda Kohji and Kudo Shinichi, both the names tend to appear on the APTX kill list, probably Rumi hacked the list, she got suspicious when the body of Shinichi was never found, read about the sleeping Kogoro, watched Conan from a distance and now approaching him for help but disguising her as Rum, so that Conan can be provoked and she can convince Conan to help her take down Rum/BO.

Dudes I've gotten an idea, I think the arson case might have been set up like this. The trick was this candle swing experiment. The skewer was used as the axis fulcrum and two other candles were used as the stand for the mechanism. The V-shaped main burn mark indicates that after this mechanism was dislodged the candle with both ends burning started the main fire and the presence of beer just aggravated it. The up and downward motion of this mechanism created the illusion of him doing the squats, while he was reading manga after getting some beer and then probably he was drugged and his hands were taped with his hair. Also the intensity of his squats did increase just before the fire started which also affirms this experiment, as it comes to an end the candle starts swinging more and more. Now the only culprit is that guy after whose visit the victim apparently started squatting. The culprit is the Sumito-guy.
