  1. That's a good point your raise there, it wouldn't really make sense if Asaka was Sera's mother as she would be unfit to act as a body guard. But I just remembered how Shukichi refers to Kyoji as his "brother-in-law/step brother." Wouldn't this suggest that there was possibly another woman that was married to the Akai family father? I'm not sure of who exactly can qualify as a "brother-in-law" to Shukichi.

Since it also means step brother, I'd say that's the more likely one, the Haneda family adopted him and so they became step brothers, as for Asaka

The spoilers imply that Asaka is RUM or is related to him.

  2. Still, it's not uncommon for police officers from any of the prefectures to note Conan's smartness, so it could've spread from any of them to the NPA, not necessarily Bourbon. I still think that rumour spread from the Nagano prefecture to the NPA, since Kansuke uses a very similar description as Kuroda does.

So apparently Amuro is from the National Police Agency Security Bureau Security Planning Division.

Does that add anything to the argument?

  3. Anyone reading Boku Dake ga Inai Machi a.k.a. ERASED?

I found out about it through the anime which started airing in January and it reminded me of Detective Conan, only it's the seinen version, but it's really good ;)

I'm reading it, though I will not spoil myself, I will only read up to the latest episode, I just want to know the differences.

  4. The NPA supervises all 47 prefectural police departments of Japan, including the Tokyo MPD. The PSB, which Amuro was apparently working for, is a subdivision of the Tokyo MPD, so it is only indirectly related to the NPA. Also, Kuroda says "You're quite well known in the police department, Edogawa Conan". Rumour about Conan could come from the Nagano department itself, not necessarily from the NPA, since Kansuke, Yui and Komei all have expressed that Conan is way smarter than he looks, with Kansuke even saying about Conan: "I have a feeling that the one who is really in control of it all might be him ... he is a terrible monster, that kid..." back in the Red Wall case, way before Kuroda or Amuro were introduced. If Yui even offhand mentions something about Kansuke regarding Conan as very smart, those kind of rumours might spread faster than one can imagine through the Nagano department.

I believe I may have said it before but I barely know anything about how the whole system works, so I can't argue myself, but this is what jimmy-kud0 said on DCTP:

"If you read ch916 in Japanese, Kuroda says that he specifically heard rumors from the NPA (警察庁 Keisatsuchou called National Police Agency in English) that Conan was the brains behind Sleeping Kogoro. Meaning he would have heard it before being transferred to Nagano to begin with. "

  5. Haibara said that Rum should have a fake eye, but we haven't yet seen what Kuroda's eye looks like under the glasses. But it seemes strange, that someone, a chief from Nagano, who has been in a coma for ten years could become superinterdent in Tokyo.

I think that maybe Kuroda comes from the same bureau as Bourbon(Amuro/Furuya) with the mission on keeping an eye on Conan from the other side, where Bourbon can't involve himself in. I mean the PSB must have decided to investigate Conan after the incident with Akai.

It's a style Gosho used on a guy from Magic Kaito as well, but in the anime it was portrayed as a fake eye. And I agree that Kuroda is Rei's superior, he heard about Conan in the NPA, and apparently the organization Rei works for is directly related to the NPA(?)

  6. Figured I'd relay my thoughts on the new opening/ending...

(Sorry for the double post, though it has been quite some time)

My thoughts are quite "mixed", and I was a bit excited going into it, but I came out disappointed on almost all fronts.

First of all, the 42nd opening, Hane by Koshi Inaba...

B'z songs can go either way for me, simply because I'm not a huge fan of Inaba's voice, and it's usually the deciding factor on whether or not I like the song. That being said, I actually do like Hane and it has really grown on me overtime.

However, the actual opening animation is as generic as it gets. There was not one exciting or memorable scene to me, and the whole thing just seems like one big after-thought. There's such a small cast of characters in the actual opening as well...

Next up we have La PomPon's cover of opening 4, ZARD's Unmei no Roulette Mawashite.

As far as the 50th ending is concerned, I'm a bit more mixed than having a negative or positive reaction. First of all, I'm not impressed with the song, and I really do like the original opening. I think their rendition of Nazo was okay, permitting you didn't hear the live track... but I don't think their vocals translate well on a song like this, and I actually had that thought going into this. They simply should not have covered this track. I think had they done something like TRUTH ~ A Great Detective of Love instead, they'd have been better off (though I wouldn't be excited about them butchering my favorite DC opening either).

The actual animation I suppose was "unique" but with the opening and the ending, it makes it look like Detective Conan is on a strict budget or something, which is simply not the case. I did like the ending's "animation" even though a portion of it was just stills, but it is still quite bland. It also seems quite "short" to me for some reason, maybe that's just me?

Overall though, there's really nothing to get excited about. Both the opening and ending failed to deliver and I found them both to be disappointing.

I agree, I thought 42 will be the savior of DC openings after the last few openings which weren't impressive, but it seems we'll have to wait for opening 43, and they'd better put Kuroda in it as well.

  7. I'd say these are both possible, but I'd also say Shukichi being at the first meeting between Shinichi, Ran and Masumi is more likely.

If Ran's memories are stirred by MG, then maybe she saw Shukichi, as well—they haven't interacted, since he was introduced—Shinichi most likely just heard the name "Mary" and never saw Shukichi and his and Masumi's mother.

Shuichi telling Shukichi about Shinichi/Conan is certainly possible, given that he (if he is the one in contact with Masumi) likely gave an explanation about his experience with Shinichi/Conan to her in the text at the end of File 861—there's no reason he couldn't have done the same with Shukichi, earlier.

That is true, but I feel like Shuukichi wouldn't have had that much trust in Conan if he was only told of him by Akai.

  8. If Shukichi is the middle brother, then maybe he heard about Conan from Akai (Like Haibara learned of Conan from Akemi). Because it seemed like he trusted Conan's detective skills, when they met for the first time. I have posted before a theory about Akai and the middle brother being twins, and if Shukichi is the middle Brother, then I think it's very likely that they could be twins, as they both share a kanji for Shu in their given names, and ichi in Shuichi means 'one'. It could mean that Akai was the oldest.

I don't think so, rather, Shuukichi probably saw young Shinichi back when Shinichi and Ran met Sera, and since he has a really good memory, he could tell that Conan is Shinichi.

  9. I think you're making your standpoint harder to understand, though since we kinda discussed this before I already know your argument, but simply put,...

The one that Sera talked to on phone in the Ramen case is her middle-bro shuukich...!

BUT, the one that has been helping her with the past cases and that also recognised conan in the "bowling" case is her older brother shuichi!

Shuukichi recognising Conan's intelligence indicates that he might've met him in the past, possibly with Sera and Mary.

One thing to note is that when Sera wondered how her bro knew conan in the "bowling" case(which indicates that the bro should not have met him before according to Sera), she got a text from him and reacted as if he explained everything to her, then we get the wizard thing! Point is, wizard sentence was a P.S, so it doesn't have to relate to their convo about conan, so he could've simply asked sera whether she's met the person she came to look for in Japan(meaning that the bro might not know the "wizard" is the same boy they were talking about a minute ago, indicating that the bro might not be mid-bro shuukichi[who might've met the "wizard" with sera and mary] but rather old-bro shuichi)... just a thing to consider...

    I agree with that.

  10. While I did agree that it does make a bit more sense that Shuichi is the one in contact with Masumi(based on how she acts post Mystery Train), Shuukichi had to be the one who met young Shinichi, and not Shuichi, because Shuukichi knew how smart Conan was even though he never met him before, that shows that he knows his true identity, so he must've met young Shinichi back then, while Shuichi never even thought that Conan was familiar to someone he met before, and neither did Ran think that Akai was familiar when she first saw him in New York, so it doesn't seem like he was there, he might've only heard Masumi talking about the Wizard so he asked her if she met him.
