  1. While this is somewhat unrelated, since Crunchyroll will have nothing to do with it...

I watched the first part of the Black Impact remaster, and it's very lackluster. The image quality is of course, slightly improved but there were quite a few things I disliked about it. They cut out the intro/recap, as well as Chianti and Korn's debut scene (which was exclusive to the anime anyways) - so the first part of the episode doesn't start until 8 minutes later. That's a lot of cut content in the first episode even for a remaster. Though I suppose this so far has been more true to the manga since that scene never did exist.

I imagine they'll have quite a bit of recap in the parts following this, so not really that surprising.

Aspect ratio is essentially 4:3 but that's not really what bothers me. They bordered the rest of the screen with red bricks (just like they've done with some previous remasters) - where it should have been left as black. There is also text on the brick which is clearly promoting Movie 20, so I guess we know the motive behind the remasters if it was ambiguous before  :P

  2. So now we know that Asaka is a woman

I'd say that's up in the air for now... given Hotta isn't exactly a reliable source.

However if Asaka = Rum like Conan thinks, and is a woman, Gosho would finally be breaking the pattern he's used up until this point. There's nothing saying he can't break the mold. It's never been established as canon, just fan speculation... That being said given the consistency, I'd find this to be a little suspect at this point.

I still think Rum will be man.

  5. 812 is out, now it relesed 1h early

Are you sure that's not because of Daylight's Saving Time  :P - It's still released right at 3PM EST

New episode was good. They blacked out the preview for Episode 813, and I'm assuming because production hasn't started for it. They've never showed the same previews as Japan since they don't air the remasters so I guess it makes sense, but it felt really odd. I thought my video player was messing up.

  6. Saw this in my Google+ feed today... http://meitanteikonanplot.blogspot.com/2016/03/special-post-march-2016-aoyama-gosho.html

It's a translation of the interview between Gosho Aoyama and Sakamoto Hayato from the Yomiuri Giants that was featured in SS#16

Special Post March 2016, Aoyama Gosho Interview.

Gosho Aoyama and Hayato Sakamoto Cross-Talk.
Creator of Detective Conan and The Yomiuri Giants' Captain.

Why is it you became a fan of Sakamoto's, Mr. Aoyama?

Aoyama: Well, I've been a fan since he was first drafted. At that time, I was very pleased with the scout Omori, and I had wondered what sort of player he would bring in. I thought "well, he's a little thin, but he looks like he can hit." (laughs) I had a good feeling about him when watching him play. He really stands out from the crowd! I've been a fan since then. Today's the first time we've met, and I couldn't believe it was really him. (laughs) It felt like is was still looking at a TV. Sorry. (laughs)

Mr. Sakamoto, today's the first time you've met, so what's your first impression of Mr. Aoyama

Sakamoto: My first impression? Just "this is the guy who draws Conan!" (laughs) I'm a big fan of manga and I've got an autograph I received before in the locker room. I'm gonna put the picture I got today there too.

What do you think about the role Sakamoto played in last year's season

Aoyama: While I was in the hospital they didn't have Nippon TV G+ so I only got to see highlights on the news, and that was difficult. (laughs) Also, I hadn't realized Sakamoto was batting cleanup. That surprised me when I noticed.

Sakamoto: It was my first year as captain of the Giants, so I'm getting a lot of new experiences. It was my first time batting 4th as well. My record wasn't that good, but all in all it was a good year.

You're both professionals in your respective fields, so you must encounter some real difficulties.

Aoyama: Well, first, I really worried about whether I could draw a serialized comic. I felt like I wouldn't have any more ideas after 3 months. The first year or two was really difficult. (laughs)

Sakamoto: For me, it's that we've got a game every day. That's physically tiring of course, but also you have to play in front of forty thousand people, and that's very mentally exhausting. How many hours do you usually spend drawing manga?

Aoyama: When I'm in production, I only sleep about 3 hours a night.

Sakamoto: And the rest of the time you're drawing manga?

Aoyama: Or watching the Giants. (laughs)

Sakamoto: Thank you very much. (laughs) I've gotta be able to run around so sleep's very important. I get about 7 or 8 hours. So, you don't get any time off?

    Aoyama: Time off? No, no!

How about right after you've finished the manuscript

Aoyama: Ah, that's when I'll watch the Giants game they've won. On nights they've won, it gets broadcast on Nippon TV G+. So, I'll record it and watch it later to refresh myself. (laughs)

Sakamoto: Haha! You really do like the Giants don't you!?

Aoyama: I've been a fan since the Nagashima days. (Shigeo Nagashima: coach of the Giants from 1972 - 1980, and 1993 - 2001) How do you feel about the change of coaches?

Sakamoto: It's my first experience with that. It feels fresh and exciting.

Aoyama: Can I say this? For me personally, I want Sakamoto to be batting third. Then I want you to get .300 average with 30 homers...then once you do that, please make an appearance in Conan!! Also, I want you to go a year without injuries.

Sakamoto: A .300 Avg. and 30 home runs! Since you're expecting it I'll do it. Then we'll aim toward winning the Japan Series. After I do that you put me in Conan? (laughs)

Aoyama: Definitely! (laughs) I'll be supporting you with all my might this year!!

  7. Translations from presumenothing (952)

#952 p3 (last 2 frames): Sera "M-more importantly, any idea who the criminal is yet?" Kogoro "It seems like he met someone else before meeting me..." "So the criminal should be that person.." "I guess it's probably someone related to that case 17 years ago?" "Hotta Gaito apparently said that he wanted to summon the spirit of Haneda Kouji, who was killed in that case..."

#952 p4: Sera "Ha..." "Haneda..." MG (thinking) "Kouji!!" Sera "And then? Did you hear anything about the case from that Soul Detective?" Kogoro "N-no..." "We hadn't met yet..." Conan "What is it? Did you know that person named Haneda Kouji?" Sera "Y-yeah..." "He played shogi, didn't he?"

#952 p7: (thinking) “Why park at a place like this…?” “Anyway…” “I’ll take a photo first…” [shutter sounds] “Just in case, I might as well…” “Underneath the balcony too…”

#952 p8 (from 3rd frame): Sera "Just like I said..." "Isn't he very sharp? That kid!" MG "More importantly, will you hurry up and solve this case!" "If the police is allowed to investigate this room, my presence will be exposed..." "Before that group of people catch the scent of information about Haneda Kouji's murder..." "And come here..."

#952 p11: Conan says that Sera seems like she’s giving a detailed explanation to someone, Sera answers that she’s just talking to herself. MG is shown listening to Sera’s words over the phone.

#952 p13:  (after Conan explains the circumstances of the body’s discovery when Sera asks)
Conan “How was that? Can it be conveyed clearly? To that certain person!"
Sera "Like I said, who’s this certain person you’re talking about…”

    #952 p15: Conan (thinking) “That’s it!” “That’s how it is!!” (aloud) “Sera-no-neechan…"
Sera (on the phone) "Eh? Send what?”

i thought he left the voice changer there for a reason, i guess its going to be funny now that he has to get creative

The shocked look on Conan's face in the end panel is great  :P - I wonder how he'll overcome that obstacle.

Also seems like some character is going to make a "big action" next file. Assuming that it's Mary, who also appears to be a little badass in this chapter. I'm being optimistic and holding out hope that Sera and Mary will finally become relevant after all this time, or at least soon...

  8. Dimension W is getting kinda ehhh as you say, just because the pacing is a mess and the animation quality took a nosedive.  Definitely check out Ajin though; I'm loving it and feel it's the dark horse of this season because so many people were initially turned off by the CGI.  Things really start picking up at around episode 5, and since then it's been one heck of a show.

Yea, Dimension W is pretty average at best now. Started off pretty good, but at this point I'll probably finish it anyways.

I started Ajin a couple days ago. Really liked it so far. Not the biggest fan of the CGI, but this being the first anime that's used it this way, I'd say it's far from terrible and it's been growing on me. The story itself is pretty fun so far.

Phantom World is that boob limbo anime, right?  It looks like really pretty fanservice since it's done by KyoAni but not much else apart from that.  And I'm not sure if you started with the first season of Gate or accidentally jumped into the second season, but either way you're not missing much by dropping it since it kinda sucks a lot.

I started with Gate's first season, but didn't really care for the whole concept. I think I dropped it around episode 3. Phantom World... probably around the 3rd episode as well. Extremely bland, but yea, it does have "that scene". I knew nothing about either of them so I wasn't really expecting anything, but they were both accessible so why not  :P

Boku dake is still the best one I've seen this season, and episode 10 was still pretty solid. The reveal was really obvious though, so I don't think the "mystery" really held up that well. Everything else about it, especially the pacing has been quite extraordinary though imo.

  9. I thought the facial details were worse this time around, otherwise it was about the same really. Nothing to really complain over, but there were a couple odd moments.

I agree. I wasn't expecting them to show it like they did in the manga, there was no way they'd do that. It came across rather well though.

The case so far has had really good pacing. Unfortunately we're gonna have a break for a month after next week because of the remastered case, but at least this means we won't have to sift through too many AOs after episode 813, or at least that's what I'm hoping.

  10. The movie website has received another major update.

Most of the updates can be found on this page: http://www.conan-movie.jp/message.html
The profile of black section has updated with a relationship chart, and the movie website section has also included new sections, consisting of a message from Gosho Aoyama, staff and movie cast, special guest Yuki Amami, and the theme song for the movie.

Official art from the Facebook page:

  11. Boku dake ga Inai Machi has been a blast so far, and it's definitely my favorite series of the anime I've watched this season...

Though I can't say I've really got invested in much, I've only liked this and Dimension W, and I'm a bit mixed on the latter... Gonna give Ajin a chance once I have the time though, well once I get done with Psycho Pass.

Boku dake, unfortunately, kind of disappointed me for the first time today. There's only 3 episodes remaining, and it was still a pretty good episode, but I definitely don't think it held up to the last 8. Hopefully next week is an improvement.

Tried a couple episodes of Gate and Phantom World since they were on Crunchyroll, but I couldn't get into them.

The Blue Jacket Lupin series is pretty good as well, and I really like what they did with it. Haven't checked out too much though since I want to finish Part 2 and 3 first.

  12. And also, did anyone read about that some guy interviewed Aoyama and he got an information (volume number) about the when Aoyama determine who the boss is, but then decide not to publish it... (his friend leaked it eventually, but not the volume number, more like a clue)

I believe it was before V53 P8 - I think it came up recently in the "Raven Apocalypse" booklet, but I think there is also an interview from a couple years ago saying the same thing?

    From the Red Thread's Page:

    12654538_1053463604705592_63294035208028

MOST INTERESTING INFO RECAP FROM "The Raven Apocalypse" Booklet

Huge thanks to Spimer for his translations:

    - The cover mentions Rum and the "Sister outside the domain"... And says that Agasa reeks despite that Gosho says he's not the Boss.

    - On the graph detailing relations between BO members, it says that Akai killed Scotch because "he knew his (Scotch's) real identy (a PSB spy)". It sounds like Scotch's cover got blown and Akai killed him but that could be an assumption by the publisher.

    - This confirms what's been said for a while: Anokata's full name has appeared at some point in the manga before File 8 of Volume 53. That makes about 600 candidates excluding those that Gosho has denied they are Anokata.

Another thing in regards to Matsumoto... I think it's possible they will write him off. Kuroda is basically his replacement, and his VA passed away a couple years ago, unfortunately.

  13. Why would they have to transition from the Heiji Kazuha scene to the shadow-man? In the manga, the shadow-man appears before the Heiji Kazuha scene too, which means they would've simply had to add the Heiji Kazuha scene straight after the opening, but instead, that one page is skipped and they go from the opening straight to Kogoro taking Ran and Conan to Kawanakajima. I guess they didn't want to pay Yamamura's VA for just that one little scene (probably same thing for the cut Agasa line in 809).

Oops, guess I got things mixed up, don't even know what I was on about, as I just read through the case again last week  :P

  14. Okay, thanks :D The anime played off of what happened in M3. They simply assumed that Kid knows Conan's identity after the events of M3, but never made any concrete reference.

Well, I think the movies certainly continued on with that idea... but I wouldn't say the anime played off of Kid knowing Conan is Shinichi. I don't think there's ever been any connection of any sort in regards to that so we've always pretty much treated that Kid doesn't know in the manga.

Even if they did a "reveal" like M18 (which is highly unlikely imo), I think at this point, there's no indication that any of the movies will ever be connected to the manga.

I believe Gosho said he wanted to be the director or something of that nature, but simply doesn't have the time... He was responsible for the Mysterious Woman's character design though (but I don't think that really means anything either).

  15. By the way, is it me or has the quality of CR's subs declined ? I was sometimes bothered by their timing or the way they split the sentences, not to mention a few typos here and there as well as odd phrasing.

@Heliotropic : It's not his eye that's shaded, it's the right glass of his glasses, both in the manga and in the anime. Perhaps will it look different when we see him without his glasses, if we ever do.

I don't think they've really declined. They've always been a bit "spotty" I guess, but when it comes down to it, I suppose every translator has their own way of wording things... Never too bothered by the timing/subs themselves. Maybe I'm not remembering things correctly, but sometimes it seems like they want to use honorifics and then others they just ditch them entirely?

Ahh yes, my mistake. I should have said glasses  :P

  16. I have no large complaints about how the anime adapted this episode, though I still wonder how they'll handle the upcoming scenes.

I'm not too happy about them cutting the scene with Heiji, Kazuha, and Yamamura at the beginning, but given they did something similar at the end of the Kamaitachi case, I'm really not too surprised.

I suppose the transition might look a bit more awkward had they included that scene there and then skipped right to shadow-man, but I can't really find any justification for doing it.

I expected the anime to censor this one pretty bad though, and I mean, there definitely is some censorship... but it was still much more "graphic" than I expected it to be.

The atmosphere in the ending scene was done really quite well.

Kuroda looked much more threatening in the manga, and while I do like his voice, I definitely don't have the same impression I got when reading the manga. His right eye being shaded looks silly though. That works in the manga, but it just looks weird in the anime. Can't say I was expecting them to do anything different since it is TMS, and not A-1 (which did show Goudzou's prosthetic).

As far as the anime is concerned, this case will probably be my favorite this year, since it was my favorite in the manga last year...

  17. The main theme definitely peaks my interest. It'll be a nice change of pace. Let's just hope they don't layer a bunch of unnecessary crap over top of it  :P

There's also this (not really sure what exactly they are saying though, I assume just the usual stuff):

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hxUDekmrTQ

Trailer looks really good, but I'm still kind of worried about how it'll turn out. There's gotta be something more to the movie, and I'm probably not going to be thrilled with whatever case they give us. I hope that Kir isn't thrown to the sidelines for the majority of the movie either, but she probably will be.

I wonder if they finally decided on what colors to use for the mystery woman's eyes...

Either way, I'm excited for the movie. Looks like it'll be much more BO focused than the last few, but who knows really...

Really looking forward to the fight scene between Akai and Rei, looks great in the trailer!

  18. 809 is out and i have to say that the only complain i have is the edited ending

to me it seems that they split black impact into 4 is cause they wanted a longer break

Yea, I'm not really sure why they changed that, it was much funnier in the manga. Maybe it was too much work for Agasa's VA to come in and do a line  :P

  19. so its a 3 parter

i dont know if black impact  should be remastered but i guess it has to be done cause of kir

these promo episodes before the movie are not great

I'll be checking out the remaster, but I'm assuming unless the quality is actually greatly improved (and I doubt it will be), it'll basically just be a rerun. Splitting it up into 4 parts doesn't enthrall me.

813 is kind of unique, but really don't know much about it so far. It could go either way for me. Glad that Kawanakajima is 3 parts, I didn't expect it to be 2.

  20. we are approaching march, has there been a schedule for that months episodes
