There's no direct notification system for comments on statuses. The original poster and everyone who posted on the status will get notified, but you can't @ specific people unfortunately. Quoting someone's forum post will directly notify them though if they have the notification for that turned on.

I'm assuming by "senior high school" they mean a high school that only has the latter grades. In some places middle school includes 9th grade, so a senior high school is probably a school that only offers classes for 10th-12th graders.
