  1. K-on is a good one that's not romantic or violent... it's about a group of girls that decide to form a rock band... it's new last season, so you shouldn't have trouble finding it. looking at the list of anime I've watched, let's see.... Azumanga Daioh, Lucky Star, Twin Signal ...Twin Signal might be tough to find. I thought about some others to suggest, but they might be kinda on the mature side (even though they're not overly romantic or violent, they do cover some mature topics)
  2. the first movie? I guess I should go back and watch it again... having been a while since I've seen it, though, I'd have to say it was probably just a flashback. they often show the flashback of how Shinichi got stuck the way he is
  3. I don't know if the movies are set to fall between specific epiosdes, but I'm pretty sure that they're supposed to go roughly in the season that they're released. for instance, Haibara doesn't appear in the movies until the third one, which was after she was introduced in the series
  4. I think my favorite opening is Nazo.... I have it set as my general non-address-book ringtone on my cell phone I agree with the favorite ending as Step by Step, but I'm also a sucker for the sentimental songs like Kimi Ga Inai Natsu
  5. ...I picked up a copy of "Japanese Coach" for my DS yesterday ; I've heard it's not the best method, but for a casual student like me it should be okay
  6. it's not only a good idea to keep track of old episodes that haven't been subbed yet, but also to keep up with new eps... for instance, I think this site currently stops around 533 or 534, while DCTP has gotten up to 539 (I saw where they said the plan is to keep up with new material, while gradually filling in holes) they also posted OVA 9 and ep 437 last week (but not OVA 8)... I don't know how far along they are with movie 13 or "Conan vs Lupin"
  7. yes, that melody is mentioned many more times throughout later episodes... Conan feels that it's his primary lead into the organization for quite a while, looking for anyone who's dialing it
  8. ...I studied French and Hebrew while I was in high school, and then spent a year in Israel (my Hebrew still isn't all that great, since I lived with a bunch of English-speakers during that time)... so I freely admit that I learned all the Japanese I know, from watching anime.... and that's not saying much, because I can pick out a few words and I know when they say someone's name, but that's about it. I think it would be cool to learn more at some point, but I know it'll be quite a while before that happens
  9. This is always a touchy subject, since Shinichi has three girls around him. Personally, I favor the straightforward approach: Shinichi/Ran Makoto/Sonoko Heiji/Kazuha I don't think Ayumi or Shiho suit Shinichi at all, even though Ayumi has the hugest crush on his "Conan" personality, and Shiho is the girl who understands him the best... they just don't have that type of relationship, and I don't think it's ever gonna happen with either of them. The other two are obvious... As for the kids, I don't think anyone in the series really suits Shiho, even though Mitsuhiko has such a big crush on her. Because of Shiho's true nature, I think it's more likely for Mitsuhiko to eventually end up with Ayumi (sorry, Genta...). Shiho will probably end up alone. Even though it's more likely for Mitsuhiko to be with Ayumi, all three children will probably end up finding someone outside the group, to save themselves from awkward jealousy.
  10. lol... Makoto is awesome... he was also in the episode "Sonoko's Red Handkerchief". imho, they're a solid pairing, even though she's always looking at other guys
  11. I don't know if this idea should be for the wiki or the main site (or perhaps both), but I think it would be useful to have a comprehensive table listing all the episodes and their source - whether they're from the manga, and if so which volume(s) and chapters. For the table of manga, it might be fun to have a list of who appears in the keyhole on the back cover. I know there are other sites that have episode lists, but if your goal is to be a comprehensive DC site, these two lists might be something to consider. Also, I thought it might be fun to do summaries/ reviews for all the movies, and perhaps OVA's (and magic files?). If you're unaware, the three magic files that have been released so far, are half-hour shorts associated with one of the movies, respectively. Magic File 2 is from movie 12, and Magic File 3 is from movie 13... I know absolutely nothing about Magic File 1, but I read somewhere that it wasn't very good, and wasn't actually released (so in turn, I also have no clue which movie it was for).
  12. I guess I should reply to this... um, I'll do what BAKAx3 did, and skip DC (since it's obviously at the top of the list) in no particular order: Fullmetal Alchemist - the original version of the anime (with its movie) is just plain epic. I'm following the new series, so I can't comment on that yet, but it also appears to be doing well. Gundam Wing - I haven't seen all the gundam series, but of the sum total of eps I've seen, this is the only series I've finished (with Endless Waltz)... great story, interesting characters, etc Rurouni Kenshin (only through the end of the Kyoto arc, and the first four eps of the OVA, and the movie) - I love this story. It's the first manga I bought, after starting to watch the English dub of the anime. That being said, I have very strong feelings about it: I hate what they did in the last 30 eps of the anime, and how abbreviated the last two eps of the OVA felt. Slayers - before Sailor Moon, this is the show that really got me started watching anime. My friend showed it to me when we were still in middle school, before DVD's became popular (licensed VHS o.o). Somehow, I still haven't finished it yet, but I now have the means to do so. I'm might have liked Nahga the White Serpent, but I decided to avoid the OVA's after I saw the one where she replicated herself and then all the copies started laughing in unison... just to warn you all, if you haven't seen it yet DeathNote - this one impressed me because of the writing. The way Light and L went after each other was truly entertaining. It probably could have ended in the middle, after L died, but I can kinda understand why it kept going. The live action movies were good because they actually did stop at the midpoint, although there were small elements of the story which they changed. that was tough ; I have a lot of other series that I also like, but since I had to limit myself to five, there they are
  13. I've watched some Prince of Tennis... but I'm not really a tennis fan to begin with, so I haven't kept up with it. I do like baseball/softball, though, and I am left-handed um... so, yeah, I recently turned 26, so I'm finished with my undergrad. As of this posting, I'm between jobs (but miraculously there appear to be prospects on the horizon). I'm a chemical engineer... I'm interested in developing fuels, but I know in this economy I can't afford to limit myself to one industry. I've been asked whether I plan on doing any post-grad studies, and to be honest I'm not sure... I know I can't get very far on just a bachelor's, but I'm not sure what I'd like to study next. um... my DC/FMA crossover is called "Hagane no Tantei" (or "Fullmetal Detective"). The first chapter can be found here: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3025383/1/Hagane_no_Tantei I'm so excited to contribute to this site... I don't really recall how I found it, except that I linked through a few pages after detectiveconan.us went down are you interested in Magic Kaito stuff too? because I found a really comprehensive site about it: http://www.mischif.net/1412/kid.htm I've seen scanlations elsewhere, but it seems that nobody has a complete set of all three of the main volumes (not sure exactly what the deal is with volume 4...)
  14. because it sounds stupider than the other names they chose... I'm not sure what I would have chosen, but I don't think it would be that
  15. I have a lot... and none of them are airing new eps right now (live action stuff, I mean) -House -Castle -Numb3rs -Psych -Leverage -Fringe I have several others that I watch, but they fall into the "like" pile, not the "favorite" pile
  16. I have AIM, MSN, Y! im, and Skype.... but I don't use skype very often because it seems to use a lot of RAM even when it's sitting idle
  17. you know you're addicted to Detective Conan when: you choose a DC image as your computer wallpaper you have a DC screensaver (or type "There's Only One Truth", etc in the marquee style screensaver) you write DC fanfiction you have some of the DVD's, and then buy a re-release just for the bonus items inside ...I'll probably think of more eventually
  18. I am reading the manga... just picked up volume 28 yesterday one of the things that really gets to me about the manga is that they followed the name translations that were set by the anime... I understand why they did it, but that doesn't mean I have to be happy about it. On that note, I saw that they're changing Kazuha's name for the anime.... so I'm wondering how that will affect the manga, because as of right now, Kazuha is the only (semi)-main character with a Japanese name... I was really steamed when I saw the name they'd given Haibara... I was in the airport leaving Baltimore after Otakon when I picked up that volume, so I was just getting off the high from being around all of that, and I was about ready to scream ; [edit] oh... and a little bit of trivia I just remembered... I don't know if you guys know this, but the covers for the English version of the books are largely carried over from the original Japanese, by way of Conan's pose, the background photo, and the character in the keyhole on the back.... and Conan's disembodied head on the spine. The fun part about the spine is that after a while they begin to tell a story all their own, and it's pretty funny to track. A friend of mine told me about it when I started picking them up, so it's something I always look for [/edit]
  19. oh... there are many more series besides those..... they were just the first ones that popped into my head I hope we do get along I look forward to it
  20. Hi, I'm Sara. I typically go by Southpaw, or southpawSara, or if both of those are taken, I've occasionally gone by KudoRan I started watching DC in... the summer of 2004, I suppose, when the English dub first started airing on adult swim. I'd watched several other shows before that (I started casually watching anime in June 1998, when CN started showing Sailor Moon), but aside from Rurouni Kenshin, I feel like DC was the first series that I really became obsessed with ; I got through all the aired episodes, and a few of the DVD's after [as] moved it to the 5am slot (grrr...), but then I set it aside for a couple years, mostly just keeping up with the manga, movies, and OVA's. Within the last year or two, I decided to come back to the series, and catch myself up. I was primarily watching streaming video on another site, but it went down during the time I had decided to take a break and watch something different. That's how I found this site. And to be honest, I'm really glad I did. You guys did a great job, it's very organized, and looks really clean. Um... I saw in another thread that you guys were talking about writing. I love to read, and I do a little writing myself... mostly fanfiction and I'm an engineer, so I've written some technical papers too. Right now, I'm working on a DC/FMA crossover, which I'm posting at fanfiction.net... it's fun, but it's also really slow going because of all the other projects I work on I guess that's it... I'll cut off the rambling here ;
