Again, we see that Ai is enjoying her life. Also, did you hate your father when you were 18? Agasa is not really that old, he is just 52, still far from retirement age (and only one year older than Sonoko's father). Also (again), she didn't have a childhood, she didn't have friends when she was 7, she is getting a chance to relive the life she never had and she is shown to enjoy it.

I love my parents a lot (I'm 19), but it would be very boring for me if my life consisted of nothing else but hanging out with them. I'm pretty sure most of the people would agree with me, can't see why you don't ? We all love our parents, but we don't hang out & enjoy life with them like with friends, do we ? & About DB, like I said, I'm sure she appreciates them & the friendship a lot, but she's like a big sister to them, their company will get boring too.
Actually, when she is fairly a new character to the story, Conan asks her how does she not find being a kid annoying, she says that it's because Conan is with her, a person in the same situation.

    As Chekhov said:

Just because you wouldn't doesn't mean she wouldn't.

Well, you can see her interactions with them, she is mostly like a big sister/baby sitter. She's at a different maturity level, she thinks & acts & talks like an adult. Maybe there are some young adults who wouldn't mind having just three 7 year olds for friends (look at how ridiculous it sounds), but despite her horror childhood, I don't think Haibara is one of them.

  2. I think you are projecting too many of your own feelings and personality on her character to make conclusions rather than looking at the evidence. Haibara as a character, unlike Ran, doesn't revolve around Shinichi/Conan. Haibara draws almost as much strength from Ayumi and the DB and their pep talks as she does from Conan. She also enjoys being around Agasa and the DB, as she goes with them all of the time without complaint (unlike Conan who wishes he was an adult and knocks their kiddy interests at regular intervals). No evidence in the manga suggests the contrary.

Just because she doesn't complain doesn't mean anything. They're different personalities, can you really imagine Haibara pouting & whining about being a child ? Also right now she doesn't have a choice, if she turns adult, she's in serious danger. Would you at 18 have enjoyed that your daily life consisted only of hanging out with an old man & three 7 year old kids ?

  3. Isn't that what she and Shinichi/Conan have been doing for pretty much the entire series?

Because right now she has Conan, won't be the case after he turns back into an adult. & obviously the fear of the BO is restricting her from doing much else with herself.

No, Shiho is two years older than him, with 18 she's already pretty much out of high school age in Japan. And again, she never had a childhood, so there's no reason for her not enjoy her reliving that time.

Shiho is just a year older than him I think. And like I said, I'm sure she appreciates living a much carefree life, but no way will an 18 year old find enough joy in a life which consists no more than taking care of Hakase & babysitting DB.

  4. Shiho doesn't exactly have a life as an adult. Everyone she loved is dead and most of the people who know her want her dead for defecting. As a child she actually has a real life with Agasa, whom she likes as a father figure and doesn't find boring because they have similar interests. Unlike Conan, she actually seems to like school because she never had a school life as a real child. Ai talked about the crushing loneliness of that once, eating alone while being rushed through grade levels and college. I doubt the Black Organization will crumble down neatly. If she returns to being an adult, she will likely have to go into hiding and leave Tokyo, or Japan altogether, to avoid the retribution of the Black Organization's partners. Traitors are hated most of all.

I don't see why people think Shinichi will stop visiting as an adult. He hung out with Agasa pretty frequently before he shrunk. Why would he revert to his arrogance after all the mental growing up as a fake child? Sure Shinichi will go to college/get a job eventually but Ai has plenty of time to work out what she wants.

If she becomes an adult again she can at least go to high school with Shinichi & other kids her age, which she will like much more. Or get a job she likes. Btw Haibara doesn't have any more 'loved ones' than Shiho except for DB.

I'm sure she cares for Hakase & the DB, & I think she does appreciate the school life for the reason you said, but I'm pretty sure hanging out with an old man & 7 year old kids whole day will get very boring for an 18 year old.

And I think when the BO goes down the police would probably get all of the members, that makes sense for this show.

  5. I just don't see why would she want to relive her childhood. Yes, I understand that she had pretty fucked up childhood and suffered alot of traumas. But why would she want to relive her childhood again. To have it the proper way this time around? Is that even something that she desires? Not to mention that I would assume that she would want to redeem herself somehow. After all she worked for BO. I can see a scenario where after Boss is caught she assists with getting rest of BO under arrest. I can't see her do it in her child form. But at the end of the day most of my points are based on my subjectional view. I just don't want her to stay as a child. But I admit it is a strong possibility that she stays a child.

What will she exactly do if she stays a child ? She's 18, going to kindergarten will be extremely boring, so will be hanging out with DB or any other 7 year olds after Conan's gone, hanging out with Hakase doesn't sound exciting either.

  6. Is there really a reason ? They don't have much chemistry, I know we have seen very little of them together, but I think we have seen enough, and its tough to see them string together decent conversations even in present, and imo it looked tougher when they were kids, Shinichi was the cool, talented kid and Ran was basically an innocent, cute, sweet young girl who clung to him with nothing else really to offer. They probably met through their parents, obviously Shinichi stuck with her because he liked her very soon after seeing her, but Ran really should have lost interest in him after realizing how different they are, no real reason to stick with him like BFFs for 10+ years.

Or obviously there is no reason, just Gosho being 'eehh' at romance.

  7. I would like to think of Shiho as Irene Adler to Conan, he admires her and like her but it is more courtly as he won't make advances. While Ran is the one who shared her entire life with him and grew up with Shinichi, not to mention like already said Shinichi is more of the brains while Ran is more of the brawn as Gosho-sama would make the irony about it. Shiho is useful as of the moment but like I already said once she is the one who would get over her crush over Shinichi as she probably fell in love with Conan not Shinichi, therefore when he gets back to normal Shiho will see that she liked Conan not Shinichi and would outgrow these feelings...We will have to wait and see

Conan & Shinichi are the same person...his personality won't change when he becomes Shinichi again.

  8. Did you read the same series that I did? Shinichi is one of the few persons, to which Ran doesn't act all polite and friendly all the time. Read any of the cases with Shinichi and you'll see that she doesn't "act as his pretty little flower" all the time.

Shinichi is many things, but he is not selfish. He mostly cares for the well-beings of others more than for his own. And we have no indication in any of the flashback cases, that his ego was always as big like we've seen in the beginning of the series, because it was only then that the newspapers and television started to cover him and give him attention. And Ran knocks that down a notch in the first episode.

Yeah, she acts okay, but nowhere near independent like Haibara does. We all know how the majority of her personality really is. She freaking offers to clean his room even when he is right there in the room.

Whatever she does, she doesn't help at all to control his ego, she is just his flower to protect. If by "knocks that down a notch" you mean how she angrily breaks a pole, then that's not going to do the job at all. And we're not talking about just one action here, it's up to how her attitude is, and the things they should go through with each other. Her clinging and damsel in distress persona is only going to inflate his ego more.

  9. He bounces of Ran, just as much as he does with Ai, see Locked Room in the Sky, Holmes Revelation and the Aquarium Case for that. And Ai is mostly reduced to call the police as well and herding the DB off, see the upcoming two episodes Three First Discoverers as an example for that.

First episode. The fact that she grounds him is established in the first episode as one their dynamics. Other than that, Locked Room in the Sky, Desperate Revival, New York Case, Aquarium Case, Pre-School Flashback and a little bit in the Deduction Battle on the Ski Slope.

You're being blind if you really believe that Ran is just as good of a partner to Shinichi during cases as Shiho is.

And also, it's true that Shiho is able to ground him better. He has spent all these years with Ran and yet his ego is big and he is selfish, he has obviously fallen a bit to Earth since he became small, and he met Haibara. All Ran has done is act as his pretty little flower and cling to him, that'll only result in stroking his ego, and there's not much she'll be to him even in the future other than his pretty angelic flower. Haibara can be a much better and more realistic lover for him in terms of his personality development, her being around has and will present a lot of challenges to him which will make him a better person. Not to mention she's probably a more exciting lover & person for Shinichi than Ran.

  10. I can't believe I'm defending ShinRan, but Shinichi and Ran wouldn't be friends of they didn't talk. And I don't Shinichi talks about Holmes all the time. Those flashbacks were just the more exciting part of their childhood (which I did not watch, so I'm guessing here) and Shinichi is the leading in the matter of things like that (riddles, things that requires brain, etc) so obviously Ran will just follow him around.

Isn't that what I've been saying the whole time? I know CoAi will be more interesting in ShinRan (my opinion anyways), which is why I support AiCon. Plus I get a little sick watching ShinRan scenes. No offense.

That's the weird part. I can't imagine at all what they talked about with each other their whole childhood. Can you ? They have nothing in common. Also, I don't think Shinichi ever considered Ran a 'friend', she was his crush since day one. Anyway I didn't say they can't be friends, just not good friends or best friends. Just imagine, if Shinichi stops having feelings towards Ran, do you see him hanging out with her ? There's not much he can do with her, that's what I meant when I said she can only be his lover, or a casual friend.

  11. And really, I never used the 'ShinRan barely interact' argument. I found that stupid, considering they talk just fine during the first episode.

Iirc in the first episode during their 'date' their 'conversation' is Shinichi going on and on about Holmes, Ran couldn't add anything to that. Even in all of their flashbacks even as kids they didn't have a single conversation as equals, its just Shinichi leading their little adventures and Ran just tailing him around with a clueless face.

P.S: I'm not saying they can't be lovers & I'm not saying its unrealistic for such people to have a romantic relationship. Not every couple, even in the real world, have good chemistry and they do just fine. Just saying that they don't have good chemistry, which some people can't see for some reason. They can't be best friends, just lovers. Whereas Ai can be a lot of things to him, they can help each other mature in a lot of ways, it'll be a better & also more exciting relationship for Shinichi rather than the jolly housewife relationship he'll have wih Ran.

  12. 1. CoAi
    2. Ayumi/Conan (Akako/Kaito if it was available in the poll)
    3. Ran/Araide (HousewifeXHousehusband ? No thank you.)

I guess so many people dislike CoAi just because they don't like the popularity the ship is getting, probably most of them are ShinRan fans.

  13. I agree he could have developed better the pairings he already has introduced, rather than introducing so many new ones. One one hand, I am a big fan of childhood friend romances (the only kind of romance that I really adore), so if there are more of them, the better (also because childhood friends tend to lose to romantic rivals in anime, DC is a pleasant exception), but on the other hand the excessive quantity can diminish the quality unfortunately. Even though I like almost all the pairings in DC, the only ones Gosho seems to pay attention to are Shinichi x Ran and Sato x Takagi.

Lol ! Right after I saw your username while scrolling down I thought to myself, "Yeah he's going to mention how much he likes the childhood romance plot"

  14. For me it didn't make sense. What he said means that he doesn't know Ran's feelings because its not possible to deduce the heart of the woman he likes, but if Haibara is in love with him then he is even more clueless about that, which doesn't make sense because he doesn't like her, apparently. He's just dumb about romance. But it was a decent scene, I have to say.

As for DC's romance, yeah its mostly just one childhood love story after another, but I don't really mind it if the couple has good chemistry, though it's unfortunate that the primary pairing in both MK & DC suck in that area. It just shows the pretty, kind girl tailing the cool guy around, though at least Ran knows karate. I too ship AiXConan and definitely prefer AkakoXKaito over AokoXKaito.

  15. You are exaggerating the negative aspects of the Shinichi x Ran relationship and deliberately ignoring the positive ones. The Conan x Ai interaction isn't better than theirs: Ai doesn't even trust Conan enough to tell him everything she knows about the Black Organization. Without complete trust, you can't even talk about a proper friendship, much less about an alleged/supposed "chemistry" you are continuously mentioning. Just because Shinichi and Shiho have both a "genius" intelligence, doesn't mean their are "soulmates". You may think that Shiho is more "compatible" with Shinichi than Ran, but so what? It's Ran Shinchi loves. Can you produce any evidence or hint that Shinichi loves Shiho more than Ran, or that he loves her at all?

Why on earth should the conclusion to this be that Shinichi should be with Shiho and not Ran? Just because they are more "scientifically compatible"? Sorry, but this isn't a droid factory, we are talking about people's feelings (even though these are fictional people), and in human feelings it's often the opposites that mutually attract.

Just like Conan doesn't trust Ran enough to let her know his secret ? The mess with the BO is complicated, being 'besties' doesn't automatically ensure that she will tell him everything, maybe she isn't revealing them because of some complicated reason that we don't know about, not because she doesn't consider Conan a friend (do you really think Ai & Conan aren't friends ? :l).

I never said Shiho 'should' be with Shinichi. I was just talking about how ShinRan rarely have an equal conversation and you throw a fit for some other topic. Ran & Shin aren't opposites btw.

  16. Besides, we have seen them have many proper conversations in every flashback case so far (except maybe the preschool one, but eh, they were 4 and didn't know each other yet).

Why have you got the impression they can barely hold a proper conversation? That's an exaggeration imo. Just because their relationship is in a tense situation because Shinichi is "absent" and Ran is so nervous, doesn't mean they didn't communicate in normal circumstances. And it's impossible Shinichi doesn't know about her personality, they have grown up together after all.

They haven't had one. All of their 'conversations' so far in the series have literally mostly been their mushy moments, fights, or where Shinichi is rambling about his cases or showing off his detective side (The Aquarium case), they rarely have a conversation as equals and can't imagine them having one, because they lack good chemistry and have nothing in common, the only reason they even hung out together since their childhood was because 1)They didn't have many good friends. 2)Shinichi liked Ran. Even in their flashback episodes you can really deduct how most of their interaction in their childhood went, it's just Shinichi leading their little adventures and Ran is simply tagging along with him for some reason.

  17. They've known each other for 13 years. Shiho/Ai? Less than a year, given that File 882 established that it was less than a year between the Aquarium flashback case and Ran's, Shinichi's/Conan's, Shiho's/Ai's and the Detective Boys' visit to the Aquarium. It's only in File 1, when, again, they've already known each other for 13 years, that they are (one-sidedly) separated. It was her smiling face, not her pretty face, as you put it, that "strummed [his] heartstrings." They both have similar moral beliefs, and the catalyst for Ran falling in love with, or realizing she was in love with Shinichi was because he said "why would you need a reason to save someone?" In their trip to New York, she saved the lives of two murderers, in spite of the consequences—which is what Shinichi would've done—and Shinichi wouldn't have even been able to make his speech if she hadn't saved Vermouth.

Do they ? You gave an example of it in your post itself, whenever Ran does/says some heroic thing, most of the times she says she did it because she thought "Shinichi would have done it" who knows what she wanted to do.

It's not wise to write this off—this is why Shinichi's in love with her. Their similar beliefs bring them very close—in fact, they have an empathic link... that's how strong their feelings are for each other.

I don't think that factored too much. Like I said, they both can barely hold a proper conversation, I doubt Shinichi got to know too much about her beliefs or personality.

Don't get me wrong—I like the relationship between Shinichi/Conan and Shiho/Ai. It has the chemistry like you mentioned, and their personalities are very similar—they're both sharks. I'd like for the relationship between Ran and Shiho/Ai to be explored more—so many people on both sides of this shipping war nonsense act as if they're enemies. They really should interact more.

No they're not. If you want an example of two similar personalities then there's Hachiman & Yukinoshita from Oregairu. They're both the 'cool' type, but I don't ship them because they're so similar. Ai & Conan are not similar. Can't say they're poles apart, but the two poles are not the only two personality types out there, neither are sharks & dolphins.

  18. I agree with what Reverend Balthazar and Chekhov said.

That's true. If you're referring to Detective Conan, though, specifically in relation to Shinichi and Ran (and I don't know if you were, or not, so that's why I'm typing this), then that's not right—Shinichi's first love was, and his only love has been, Ran (His mantra of thinking of only her name when he thinks she's in danger, his blushes are the most red around her and his embarrassment the most profound around her, his devastation when he thinks Ran has fallen for Araide and jealousy when another man flirts with or even suggests getting together with her, etc.). He's completely oblivious to Shiho's/Ai's love for him—I suppose someone could find that unlikable about her, but it's in line with her personality, and then there's how awkward Shinichi/Conan would feel... it's already awkward enough for him with Ayumi crushing on him.

I just said if he started having stronger feelings for Ai than Ran then it would make sense & be better for him to go after Ai. It's probably not going to happen in the series really, but if it were real life I'd like to think Conan would have fallen for Ai by now, since imo the only reason he likes Ran is because she's pretty. He started liking her the 1st time after seeing her pretty face/smile, and their lack of chemistry suggests they couldn't really talk & interact with each other well enough for Shinichi to know too much about her personality except that she's kind & a good girl blah blah.

  19.

I don't really want to argue about that not to sound disrespectful, but that is often a good excuse for Hollywood-actor-style womanizers. I don't respect people who change their partners often except for reasons like if they cheated, committed a serious crime etc. I don't buy the argument of "freedom" and "I just feel like changing a partner not to be bored".

I'm not even talking about that. I just said if you sincerely love the 'other' person more than your first love, then it would make sense if you go for them.
