Wataru Takagi and Miwako Sato are two officers working under Inspector Megure in the first division of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, where Sato is currently Takagi's superior. As the story progresses, they start developing strong mutual romantic feelings for one another.

Despite being heavily admired by many male colleagues around her, especially Inspector Shiratori in the beginning, Sato still cares and worries about Takagi deeply, most notably during situations where his safety was put at risk. She also finds in Takagi traits that remind her of her late colleague, Jinpei Matsuda, whom she had become romantically inclined towards in the brief time they've known each other. Takagi, on the other hand, respects Sato as his senior and loves her sincerely as a girlfriend, even to the point of willingly sacrificing his own life just to keep her away from all dangers. After going through numerous difficulties and challenges, in some later cases, their relationship was hinted to have entered a sexual level; however, the true nature of this development has yet to be confirmed.

A running joke in the series is that their relationship never progresses because of interruptions by the rest of the police force or other characters.

Volume 21: Files 208-210 / Episodes 146-147: Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story

• Takagi tells the Detective Boys that he likes someone and they infer that it is Sato.
• Takagi was told by Yumi that the person Sato likes is in the first division. He wonders who it is, and worries that it might be Ninzaburo Shiratori, as, when Sato heard that Shiratori was just promoted to the rank of Police Inspector (despite being so young), she asked jokingly whether Shiratori could add her to the list of people who wished to marry him.
• Shiratori invites Sato out for dinner at a French restaurant after the case is resolved, and is dejected when he gets rejected politely by Sato (her reason is that she does not like the formalities in those restaurants).
• Sato instead invites Takagi to have ramen for dinner, but then completely forgets about this when Inspector Megure asks her whether she wants to celebrate having solved the case and have a drink alongside other colleagues. This makes Takagi worried that the one Sato likes might be Megure instead of Shiratori.

Volume 23: File 231-233 / Episodes 156-157: Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story 2

• Takagi asks if Sato likes Inspector Megure, to which Sato replies "yes". She explains it is because he reminds her of her father (who was a police officer and died on duty when she was in primary school). This implies that Sato has no romantic feelings towards Megure, which greatly relieves Takagi.
• Sato's popularity among police officers in Tokyo is shown for the first time. When she is missing, male police officers from all departments and divisions start roaming through the city, frantically looking for her.

Volume 27: Files 267-269 / Episodes 205-206: Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story 3

• Sato says that she would grant any wish of the person who solves the case leading to her father's death (i.e. the Shuushirou case), prompting Takagi and Shiratori to fantasize about Sato in a wedding dress.
• Takagi forgets his handcuffs and says the fortune telling magazine says that he will be super lucky today. It gives Sato flashbacks of the day her father died, when he left home he had forgotten his handcuffs and also said he would be super lucky that day. Sato gives her old, rusty handcuffs to Takagi, telling him they are a memento of her father and that it will sure bring him luck. Shiratori looks decidedly put out.
• Later, Takagi is handcuffed to the windows of an abandoned warehouse that has been set on fire; Sato wants to rush into the warehouse to save Takagi but is stopped by Shiratori and Megure. As bits of the warehouse crumbles, Sato yells out that Takagi is a baka, with tears in her eyes, only to hear Takagi answering her from behind them.
• Takagi has managed to save himself, but was still handcuffed to a metal bar, he collapses from the wound to his head, and Sato notices he has a gun and asks him why he didn't just shoot the handcuffs with his gun. The Detective Boys answer that it must have been because the handcuffs were the memento from Sato's father and he didn't want to damage them.
• Sato holds Takagi's unconscious body, and Shiratori stands to the side with his arms crossed.
• To show her thanks and keep her promise (because Takagi figured out the mystery), she asks what Takagi's wish is, and he says that he wants to go on a date with her. Sato agrees to the date happily, but it ends up being an undercover mission instead.

Volume 30: Files 296-298 / Episodes 240-241: The Shinkansen Transport Case

• As Ran is mulling over her failed attempt to ask about Shinichi's feelings for her, Takagi walks by muttering, "doing it directly is bad..." about his situation with Sato (Ran, Kogoro and Conan do not realize what he is talking about, though).
• A ticket to a magic show drops out of Takagi's jacket, and when asked by Sato, Takagi says that Yumi had an extra ticket and invited him, but that he was not too interested. Takagi's words here are actually pre-meditated, and all this is part of Yumi's plan to test whether Sato likes Takagi. Since Sato's expression does not change when she hears this, and she instead encourages Takagi to go with Yumi, Takagi concludes that Sato has no feelings towards him. He thus becomes very dejected and resigned.
• Later, Takagi gets a phone call from Yumi asking how it has gone, and as it has gone badly and he is additionally in the middle of dealing with an important case, he hangs up quickly shouting for her to call him at a better time.
• After the case is solved Sato approaches Yumi and asks her if she likes Takagi. Yumi is thrown off guard by this question and exclaims loudly, and when Sato pursues, Yumi says that she does not like Takagi at all. Sato remarks that she thought so, and advises Yumi to stop messing with Takagi, as "Takagi has been really troubled ever since he got your tickets to the magic show".
• This interaction makes Yumi believe that Sato does indeed like Takagi. She initially wants to tell Takagi about this to lighten him up, but then changes his mind, as Sato concludes her advice by saying "you should find a man suitable for yourself and enter a serious relationship with him".
• Kogoro, Ran and Conan comment that Sato is in an awfully good mood for someone who just got her pay cut (because a suspect had died in police custody); Conan hypothesizes that "maybe something good happened" (of course, they do not know that Sato's good mood comes from the relief after confirming that Yumi does not like Takagi).

Volume 32: File 328-330 / Episodes 253-254: Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story 4

• Sato, pressured by her mom to attend an omiai (arranged marriage meeting), randomly picks a photo of a possible suitor (with her toes, no less), and it turns out to be Shiratori.
• Yumi promises to send her a "servant" (Takagi) to save Sato (who had just agreed to a bet with Shiratori that she’d marry him if Takagi didn’t show up within the time the sun sets), and she texts Takagi. However, he is caught up with a case and doesn't read the message until Conan, (who happens to be there eavesdropping with Araide, Ran and Sonoko at the time) calls him using Shinichi's voice and explains the situation. He also helps Takagi with the case.
• Sato, who had just agreed to the wager, thinks that Takagi will definitely come, and then, blushing, she wonders why she thinks that.
• As the sun is about to set, Sato resigns herself to the deal and thinks herself a failure as a police officer for not realizing until just now how important Takagi has become to her.
• Just as Shiratori is about to seal their deal with a kiss, Conan uses Araide's shadow and his voice-changing bow tie to imitate Takagi's form and voice, stopping the kiss, and thus the deal.
• The real Takagi is waiting outside the house, thinking that he failed to stop the bet, when Sato runs out and gets in his car.
• Here it is shown that Conan approves of their relationship.

Volume 36: Files 366-368 / Episodes 301-302: Parade of Malice and Saint

• Sato and Takagi are planning to go on a date, but since Takagi is interrogated on this matter and fails to keep silent, everyone in the first division learns about it, and it seems lots of them have requested days off and reserved binoculars for that day.
• Shiratori proudly tells Yumi that if there is a date between Sato and Takagi, they can rest assured that the date will be spied upon by many police officers, and that he will be in charge of the spying mission.
• Takagi puts on a disguise that reminds Sato of her former colleague Jinpei Matsuda. Because of the special role that Matsuda plays in Sato's heart, she slaps him and suddenly becomes icy cold towards Takagi (despite the fact that Takagi does not know about Matsuda at all).
• Takagi almost gets blown up and Sato frantically tries to rescue him, not knowing that Takagi is safe, burning her hands in the process. The other infer that she was trying to save both Takagi and Matsuda.
• At the end, Sato apologizes for having slapped Takagi, and Takagi frets over Sato's hands, resulting in them staring into each other's eyes until they pull away, both blushing.
• Sato says everyone she has ever cared about deeply has died, and that therefore it would be better if she and Takagi went back to just being colleagues. Takagi does not have the courage to say otherwise, so agrees after a while. Sato walks away sadly as Takagi stares after her and Yumi and the Detective Boys watch in the background, apparently disappointed.

Volume 36: File 369-373 / Episode 304: The Trembling Police Headquarters

Sato and Takagi were close to kissing before Megure interrupted.

• Takagi thinks he cannot compete against Matsuda, and is mocked by the Detective Boys. Takagi says he doesn't want to give up either.
• Sato dreams and sees the grim reaper behind Takagi, and doesn't take him to investigate bomb sites, because she doesn't want anything to happen to him.
• Near the end of the case, Sato begins to cry on Takagi's shoulder saying that she wants to forget Matsuda, and after Takagi tells her she should not forget (as that would mean that Matsuda is really dead), Sato becomes deeply touched, and the two nearly kiss. However, they are interrupted by Megure.
• Sato deletes her precious last message from Matsuda (the one where he told Sato about the next bombing site and confessed his love to her), but she thinks that she will never forget him.

Volume 40: Files 404-406 / Episodes 358-359: Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story 5

• Takagi and Sato are going on their very first date at the Tropical Marine Land, and Shiratori (as he once said he would) is leading a large group of police officers equipped with cameras, binoculars and camouflage to spy on and sabotage the date.
• Shiratori is not shy to use rather extreme methods for disruption, for example making police officers smear the police (in general) so that Sato would get angry, and giving the Detective Boys tickets to Tropical Marine Land and leading them to Takagi and Sato so that they would have to take care of them.
• Agasa was initially accompanying the Detective Boys, but Shiratori asks him to go home to confirm some details in a previous case, thus ensuring that the Detective Boys would never leave Takagi and Sato.
• Takagi thinks that the Detective Boys are a burden, as he has bought a ring for Sato and wants to take the opportunity to give it to her. Sato does not mind, though, and jokes that Takagi can view it as preparation of what comes when they have a baby.
• Before Takagi is able to give the ring to Sato, his bag has been switched with that of a drug dealer's; that bag is full of cocaine. So now Takagi is dragged into a case (on top of all the other troubles that Takagi is facing). Eventually the bag drops into a river and the ring is lost.
• Sato makes Takagi promise that he will never go away and leave her.
• Conan thinks to himself that although Takagi lost his ring, he has gained something much more precious.

Volume 44: Files 450-452 / Episodes 390-391: Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story 6

• Sato sternly orders Takagi to get into her car, so Takagi wonders if he did something wrong. He starts worrying and even thinks she is going to break up with him. However, when he opens the door and a toy snake leaps out, scaring him, Sato starts laughing, commenting that the trick worked perfectly. Takagi is relieved and they flirt cutely (Chiba and Shiratori are actually watching them the entire time).
• The police department is led to believe that Takagi will be sent to Tottori to deal with a complex case. This makes them ecstatic, as, in this way, Takagi will be staying away from Sato for a long time (perhaps a few years). Takagi is disappointed that Sato seems to be indifferent, even asking for twentieth century pears while Yumi burst into tears.
• While investigating the case, Takagi yells, "I am definitely not going to find another woman! Definitely not!" when he overhears the Detective Boys chatting about Hide (the soccer player) leaving the country and finding a girlfriend as he thought they were talking about him. When he realizes that this is not the case, he is quite embarrassed.
• Takagi is upset that Sato still has not shown any emotion about his leaving Tokyo, but when Sato falls for her own trick with the toy snake, she is silent and appears upset. Then, she suddenly asks Takagi to swear that even if there are cute female police officers in Tottori, he will stay loyal to her. Takagi does exactly this.
• Right after Takagi blurts that he wants to be engaged with Sato before he leaves, Megure informs them that it is actually Chosuke Takagi who is being sent away, and not Wataru.
• Sato, who is blushing a lot, asks what Takagi just said, but he quickly changes the subject and says that they should go to karaoke with the kids. Takagi is shown sighing at the karaoke with Conan and Ai watching him.

Volume 47: Files 484-486 / Episodes 401-402: A Jewel Thief Caught Red-Handed

• The Detective Boys run into Takagi as he enters into a jewelry shop to buy a brooch for Sato (he is doing so because Yumi claimed that when Sato saw the brooch on a magazine, she stared at it for a long time). The jewelry is subsequently robbed, and the robber took the brooch.
• Shiratori heckles him about the jewelry shop visit and the brooch.
• After solving the case, Takagi is able to retrieve the brooch from the culprit's coat. Sato remarks that Yumi once told her that she liked the brooch, and that since she does not like flashy things, she would lend jewelries to Yumi. This makes it clear that Yumi is just using Sato's popularity to trick male police officers into indirectly buying her things that she wants.
• Yumi mentions that she plans to continue doing this, and that her next victim will be Assistant Inspector Takano.

Not in manga / Episode 425: Black Impact! The Moment the Black Organization Reaches Out

• While Kogoro, Ran, and Conan are working on Rena Mizunashi's bell ringer prank case, Conan hops to the apartment next door; it is supposed to be unoccupied.
• Conan looks on a glass door or window and sees "ki", "mi" and "wa" (き、み、わ) written on it.
• When it dawns on Conan what is going on, he calls Takagi, who admits that a few days ago, he was doing a stakeout, and wrote "Takagi Miwako" on the glass and forgot to wipe it up. In short, he wrote what Sato's name would be if they were to marry.
• By the time that Conan sees the glass, the "ta", "ka" and "ko" (た、か、こ) have disappeared.

Volume 50: 511-514 / Episodes 431-432: Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story 7

• Takagi and Sato are invited to a goukon (singles mixer) separately, and both agree to go to even out the numbers. Since neither tells the other about this beforehand, when they meet at the goukon, they both get jealous (especially when they see each other paying attention to other people).
• In the middle of the case, Sato and Takagi get into a jealous quarrel.
• After the case is solved, Takagi and Sato come together to resolve the slightly awkward situation, and they come to the conclusion that neither has done anything wrong, and that just like winning lottery, them meeting at the same Toulon is something very unlikely. Takagi thus mentions that he has never won the lottery.
• Sato, upon hearing Takagi's words, asks whether getting her would count as winning the lottery. Takagi, of course, says that Sato is a super win ticket. The two then nearly kiss, before being reminded that Kogoro, Ran, and Conan are still in the backseat.

Volume 52: 535-537 / Episode 449: Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story - Fake Wedding

• Sato is annoyed that Yumi is sticking too close to Takagi as Yumi and Takagi play stand-ins for a couple on their wedding day (Shiratori, on the other hand, suggests that they make it real and marry on the spot).
• Later in the case, Sato switches places with Yumi to protect her from the culprit (i.e. the groom himself). She tries to arrest the groom as he escapes, but then mistakenly pins Takagi down to the ground (since the groom looks a lot like Takagi); the groom is instead taken down by Ran.
• It turns out that a witness to Sato's "assault" on Takagi is a famous photographer. So, it is not surprising that sometime later, while walking on the streets, the police officers see the picture that he took of Sato pinning Takagi down in a commercial ad. Sato and Takagi are embarrassed, and Chiba slyly tells Shiratori that taking the ad down would constitute a crime.

• Scared about the thunder, Takagi strongly hugs Sato at the height of the breasts causing her furiosly embarassed and hit him.

Volume 56: 576-578 / Episode 487: Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story 8

• Takagi (and the rest of the first division) notice the sudden appearance of a ring on Sato's left hand. Takagi's colleagues initially thought that it was his ring, but is turns out that Takagi is equally confused and annoyed.
• Ran congratulates Takagi on his engagement to Sato, and is shocked when Takagi tells her that the ring is not from him. He says that he feels like he is on a tightrope with Sato (this turns out to be a useful hint that helps Conan solve the case).
• It turns out that Sato was just wearing it as a charm. Takagi, summoning all his bravery, asks Sato to wear the ring that he has bought for her. Sato agrees, but because she still thinks it is but a charm.

Volume 60: 625-627 / Episodes 530-531: The Truth Behind the Urban Legend

• Takagi and Sato are on a stakeout mission when Sato says suddenly “give me a hot kiss right now!”. Takagi is greatly surprised by this but complies, but before their lips can meet, they are interrupted by Conan, who points out that they are pretending to be lovers so that the suspect that they are spying on would not grow suspicious (Conan is then scolded by Sonoko, as she is supportive of the relationship as well).
• Later, during the investigation of the suspect's mansion, they both trip in the bathroom. They end up face to face, staring into each others' eyes while blushing, until Conan coughs and interrupts them again.
• Takagi keeps thinking back to the almost kiss, and gets jealous and furious at Chiba over the fact that Sato also pulled the "appear as lovers, pretend to kiss" ploy with him on previous stakeouts (Chiba told Takagi that he would never forget that “soft feeling”, and Takagi mistakenly thought that Chiba was referring to Sato's lips).
• Later, Takagi realizes that Sato only asked Chiba to hold her hands, and that she asked Takagi to kiss her only because it was him.
• Wanting Sato to do the same again, Takagi suddenly become very enthusiastic about stakeout missions with Sato. However, there are other officers in the first division named Sato, and not informing himself before signing up for the stakeout leads to Takagi ending up doing stakeouts with a mid-aged man.

Volume 64: Files 667-673 / Episodes 534-535: The Scar that Evokes the Past

• Sato tells Takagi that if he manages to solve the case, she will go with him to the new hot springs place, and this motivates Takagi to takes up a more active role in the investigation. Sato, however, begins to worry when she hears from Matsumoto that this is a very bad signal and that such reckless behavior is likely to trigger Takagi's death in the line of duty. She is even reminded of her father and Jinpei Matsuda.
• Takagi is captured by the culprit, and then receives a cellphone call from Sato. The culprit deduces that Sato is Takagi's girlfriend and tries to force him to reply so that Sato could be lured to him for the culprit to take her as hostage. Takagi, not wanting to put Sato in danger, breaks said cellphone instead, winks to the culprit and tells him “guess I will be your only hostage now.”
• A few minutes later, the police is notified of Takagi's situation, and officers are dispatched to break into the culprit's house to save Takagi. Takagi

mistakenly believes that Sato is among them, and he fears that when she rushes in, the culprit would open fire on her. For this reason, he tries to take the culprit down by himself (despite being injured and having no weapons on himself); he ends up being shot, but luckily is able to survive, and the officers rushing in after hearing the gunshot are able to apprehend the culprit without being injured themselves.

• Sato is crushed when she believes Takagi has died, and then is greatly relieved when Shiratori tells her that he is actually alive. She rushes towards Takagi's room, and Takagi complains that he now cannot go to the new hot springs place, and that every kissing occasion that arose ended up being interrupted.
• Sato thus kisses Takagi on the spot. The Detective Boys witness this scene and ward off Matsumoto and others, who are about to enter the room to see how Takagi is recovering.

Volume 68: File 708 / Episodes 583-585: Kobayashi-sensei's Love

• Since recent intelligence suggests that Takagi and Sato are getting closer and closer, their jealous colleagues at the first division rush to Shiratori to ask what the plan is now. Shiratori seems completely unbothered by those recent developments, and tells them that he has stepped down from the leadership role of the group trying to disrupt Takagi and Sato's relationship.
• After Shiratori shows off the bento that Sumiko made for him, Takagi asks Sato for one as well. Sato misinterprets Takagi's words and responds that if he is going to the convenience store to buy Bento, it would be great if he buy hers one as well. This leaves Takagi slightly dejected and Chiba amused.

Volume 69: File 725-727 / Episodes 608-609: White Day of Betrayal

• On White Day, Sato overhears Ran and Sonoko's discussions about return gifts, and thus turns to Takagi and sticks out her hand expectantly. Takagi points out that he did not get any Valentine's Day presents from Sato, and Sato indignantly retorts that she gave him candy during a stakeout that night. Takagi points out that it was only pocky and that Sato had already eaten some beforehand. After Shiratori drives by with a carload of gifts for Sumiko, Sato throws Takagi a sour look.
• Later on, Sato is trying to focus and trying to forget something ominous her friend told her that will happen if her boyfriend does not give her return candy.
• After the case is solved, Takagi tricks Sato into opening the glove compartment of her car, which is where he hid the return gift. Sato becomes extremely happy with this turn of events, while Takagi remarks that he put the gift inside 3 days beforehand.

Volume 76: File 804-808 / Episodes 681-683: The Life-Threatening Broadcast of Love

• Due to a massive misunderstanding, Takagi is kidnapped and placed in a cruel death trap in Hokkaido. Sato takes a very active role in his rescue, being very aggressive with the culprit when she finds him in order to find clues about the whereabouts of Takagi.
• At some point in the investigation, Sato lets it slip that she knows Takagi does not move too much when he is sleeping, even adding that he looks very cute. She is greatly embarrassed when she realizes the kids are listening, and claims that she knows these things because one time, they took a nap while on a stakeout mission.
• Sato saves Takagi barely in time and kisses him when he is finally back to safety. This scene is captured by the camera, and their colleagues at the first division become furious when they see it; one even remarks that he would rather Takagi to be dead than be saved.

Volume 82: Files 865-868 / Episodes 751-752: The Case of the Lucky Calico

• Takagi accidentally reveals that he has slept on Sato's bed (as he knows that it is "soft and fluffy"). Both of them blush awkwardly in response to the Detective Boys' speculation about their relationship, and they are unable to come up with an explanation.
• Later, on page 9 of file 867, Takagi whispers to Sato that "what was really soft and warm was not, of course, the bedding..." in front of the kids, thus embarrassing her again (note: the implication of them having a sexual relationship is so direct that this dialogue is not included in the anime).

Volume 82: Files 869-871 / Episodes 748-749: Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story 9

Takagi imagining being a family with Sato.

• Takagi mistakenly believes that Sato is pregnant with his child, so he says he will take full responsibility (the fact that he jumps to this conclusion shows how far they have come in their relationship).
• As Yumi and Naeko are eavesdropping in the next car, they mistakenly believe that Sato is pregnant as well. They proceed to tell everyone in the first division about this, and they witness them go through all three stages of grief: they are first greatly astonished and begin weeping; then sadness turns into ire and fury; then, in the end, their rationality comes back, and they "arrest" Takagi for a new round of interrogation.
• The interrogation will certainly yield very little, as Takagi already knows at that point that Sato is not pregnant.

Volume 88: Files 928-930 / Episodes 827-828: Ramen So Good, It's to Die For 2

• Sato and Takagi put on disguise to catch the culprit at a ramen shop. It is again stated that they are sexually active, as Sato tells Takagi that she plans to work out *intensely* that night to burn out calories and is disappointed when he misses the point of her remark.

• Takagi pretends to be sick and tells Megure that he will be gone on sick leave; instead, he goes on a date with Sato in Yufuin. Sato is unaware of this, as Takagi told her that he had managed to take a day off, until she receives a call from Inspector Megure, who mentions that Takagi is on sick leave. Sato then gets furious at Takagi, making him tremble with fear.
• Near the end, Takagi apologizes profusely, but Sato says that she will not forgive him.

Volume 95: Files 1013-1017 / Episodes 971-974:The Target is the Metropolitan Police Traffic Department

• Naeko asks Sato why she did not drive away the people hitting on her during stakeouts by telling the person that Takagi his her boyfriend; Sato replies that she cannot use that strategy, because, the time she did, Takagi panically revealed to those around them that they were police officers on a stakeout mission, causing massive embarrassment to her.

Volume 102: Files 1085-1087 / TBD (Marriage Partner Searching Party Murder Case)

• When Chihaya grabs Takagi by the collar and questions him why he would grab the culprit's knife in order to stop him from committing suicide, Sato gets jealous of their closeness and cut them off. Chihaya instantly realizes that Takagi has a partner, lets him go and advises Sato to never let Takagi go, as "you do not meet this kind of idiot very often".

• When Sato asks Takagi about her outfit, he begins to blush and replies saying it look amazing on her.
• When Kogoro begins interrogating Takagi, Conan reveals to Kogoro about Takagi's true feelings for Sato. Takagi begins to deeply blush and Kogoro seeing it's true, threatens to reveal the news Sato, but Takagi stops him and reveals some information on the recent case.
• When Conan, Kogoro and Takagi arrive at the scene, Takagi hurries to Sato's side and hold her in his arms.
• When a man pushes a woman out of a train and Takagi catches her he remembers when he was holding Sato, who was shot and undergoing surgery. He goes into shock and gets distracted long enough for the culprit to push Ran onto the rail track.
• At the end of the film when Shiratori reveals that Sato is going to be alright, Takagi is shown to be crying tears of joy upon discovering the news.

Movie 25: The Bride of Halloween

• At the beginning of the movie, Takagi and Sato are shown at a wedding as the bride and groom, but it is revealed that the wedding was actually just a police training exercise.
• After Takagi is shot during the training exercise, Sato is visibly shocked and startled. When asked if she is okay, Sato reveals that she once again saw the Grim Reaper behind Takagi.
• When Takagi volunteers to disguise himself as Matsuda, Sato is visibly concerned as that would mean he would be putting his life at risk.
• During the stakeout, when Takagi is being kidnapped Sato angry that the public security officers cannot get to him runs out of the van to help him.
• After Takagi was kidnapped, Kazami who approached Sato showed her Takagi’s damaged ear wig which caused her to slap him while being visibly enraged that they had failed to protect him.
• After they locate and sage Takagi and Chiba, Sato runs up to Takagi and asks if he is okay and much to her relief he confirms that he is.
• When Plamya is shooting at everyone in the wedding hall, Takagi pushes Sato out of the line of fire and puts his body on top of hers to protect her.
• When Takagi is helping Conan and others stop the massive bomb in Shibuya, Sato notices that Takagi had sustained a gunshot wound from the wedding hall shootout.
• After the bomb is stopped, Takagi and Sato are shown in an ambulance with her asking if he is okay and he whispers something to her that causes her to blush.
• Before the ambulance leaves, Sato kisses Takagi while once again unknowingly being witnessed by Ayumi, Mitsuhiko, Genta, and Haibara.

Trivia

• They are one of the rarer non-childhood couples.
• Takagi gets a lot of grief as Sato is so popular in the police department while he is popular in the traffic apartment but not the same as Sato. According to Yumi, some girls in the police apartment are attracted to him because they find him moe-level adorable.
• They are the first couple to be introduced of the police group.
• Though Takagi was introduced in Conan's arc, Sato was introduced in Sherry's arc.
  • This is similar to Heiji Hattori and Kazuha Toyama, in which, the boy (Heiji/Takagi) was introduced in Conan's arc and the girl (Kazuha/Sato) was introduced in Sherry's arc.
• They are, along with Gin and Vermouth, the only couple who have any kind of sexual references.
• According to Gosho in JUSTICE PLUS Super Digest Book, Takagi confessed first.
