Biography

Sako was born in Iwakuni on November 9, 1946.[1] He first enrolled at Chuo University, but dropped out afterwards.[2] Later on, he joined the Kumo Theater Company and then the En Theater Company.[2] He thus started acting in traditional western plays, as well as TV Dramas.

In the 1980s, Sako started dubbing foreign movies and anime, and took on most of the roles of Gary Oldman. He changed his stage-name for 佐古 雅誉 (same reading), but changed it back.[3] In July 2000, he developed tongue cancer, and had to cancel all his acting plans. After fighting the cancer for two years, Sako died on January 11, 2003, aged 56 in a hospital in his hometown.[4] The voice actress Mayumi Sako is his daughter.[5]
