Talk:Hiroshi Agasa

From Detective Conan Wiki

As far as I know, Agasa isn't a professor, neither a dictionary translates Hakase to Professor, it's translated to Dr. you can check for example here: http://jisho.org -‎Al-mousawi

Correct, but I think we were referring to Agasa as Professor out of habit, I guess. A lot of the fansubs used "Professor" instead of "Doctor". Kinda like how in Pokemon the Professors are given the "hakase" title in the original Japanese but the English versions translated it as "Professor". But yeah, technically in Japanese "kyōju" is "professor". We'll need a lot of opinions if we make a decision to switch all mentions of "Professor" to "Doctor" for Agasa. I'm fine with either. --Skyechan (talk) 02:32, 2 November 2014 (CET)
So Agasa isn't a professor but we're calling him that because that what unofficial fansubs call him? in my opinion Professor should be replaced with Doctor, since it's a non-official mistake. A simple note saying "Note: although Agasa was called a professor is some fansubs, 博士 (hakase) means doctor in Japanese." will be sufficient. I know you're OK with both, but since it's a mistake there shouldn't be a poll to make the switch. --Al-mousawi (talk) 06:06, 8 November 2014 (CET)
Changing is okay IMO but we need to do that via mass bot edits. About 60+% of pages here refer to him as "Prof. Agasa" (including every episode that features him, for example), we can't do them manually one-by-one. We would need to ask Maurice to write/install a bot or find a way to allow things like AutoWikiBrowser to work on our wiki (which currently doesn't). --- Black Demon
I see, I know how to use AWB but unfortunately it doesn't work here. I already wrote in the forum while ago about the issue, but nobody replied; it seems that Maurice is busy and doesn't have time to fix the issue. --Al-mousawi (talk) 06:43, 11 November 2014 (CET)
